NEW M1 iPad Pro (2021) - 5 reasons to BUY and 5 reasons NOT!

- Hey guys it's Craig. Apple introduced new iPads this past week. I'm excited. iPads have become such a computer alternative. I use mine so much that I'm ready to upgrade my 2018 to the 12 point nine inch. I'm going to share with you my five reasons why I wanna do the update, but I'm going to also share with you five reasons why you probably should wait unless you have a YouTube channel, or no you want a 12 point nine inch yeah.

Now, if you checked out yesterday's video, I went over the iPad and five reasons why I wanted to get that. And five reasons you might want to wait on that. That video is in the description. Check it out. It's great video.

I think there's some good points in it that you should consider. Also in the description is my video on Apple's air tags and new Apple TV 4k that'll be coming out. There are some big updates this time around to the iPad. Unfortunately not all of them made it to the 11 inch but I'm gonna be talking about the 12 point nine inch cause that's the one I want. And that is the one with the features that really compel me to buy one.

As I go through this, these are my reasons but some of them may not apply to you at all. And you shouldn't buy this device. At the end I'll go through my honorable mentions of additional features that don't fall into this list. There are some good updates that I'm looking forward to. Now.

Let's look at what you get. Go through some of the specs. We'll go to Apple's website as if we're going to buy one and see what the costs are. Now, if you start off with the 11 inch iPad pro it's seven 99, which is the same as the 2020 release, the 12 point nine inch iPad, goes up a hundred dollars from last year at 10.99 and that's going to be for this new displays which you're paying for. Both of them start at 128 gigabytes.

Let's just pick the 12 point nine inch and space gray, no colors nothing fun for the pro lineup. Now there is Ram difference in these models. There's eight gigabytes of Ram and they're 16 gigabytes of Ram. You need to go with one terabyte to get that 16 gigabytes of Ram. You're gonna need to change that to one terabyte so that I can get 10 gigs of Ram.

Personally, I like cellular because I travel and I like to be able to have a connection that doesn't rely on my phone. Cause I don't want to hotspot it. Get everything with it, with cellular 16 gigs of Ram. Now we have a $2,000. We have a $2,000 Mac book air minus keyboard.

(Craig laughing) Wow. Add a keyboard to that. That's only another $250. You are too expensive real quick. Oh boy, this is what it's going to cost for me to get it to get a better idea of all the specs you could see.

You could get up to two terabytes of storage, wifi cellular model, buttons, connectors, all that stuff stays the same. There is a new ultra-wide camera on it that can be used for center stage to keep you in the center of the screen. When you're doing a, any kind of video calls. Now, if you go under charging and expansion there's Thunderbolt slash USB four port. The addition of Thunderbolt.

That's gonna be huge for connecting monitors, being able to use it full screen, being able to edit off of an iPad and not just see the square with black bars on the side. So I'm excited to use that. That's going to add even more value to this. Let's look at this screen. This screen is crazy here.

It is a mini led display. They're calling it the XDR liquid retina display. It's always got a name to it, but the idea is this is using some of the technology from that pro display that costs you $5,000 , and a thousand dollars for the stand. So number one reason why I want to buy the 12 point nine inch, is to replace the 11 inch. I could use the extra real estate.

There's times that when I'm typing up notes, I want to be able to see a web window bigger and it'll also helped with editing. So the extra real estate is a big reason why that why I'm upgrading this time around to the 12 point nine inch. Now I want the bigger one, but if you're on the fence you may want to really think about this 12 point nine inch. It is a big upgrade. Just for a little comparison, I bought brought visual AIDS so that we can see the difference.

You look at this. It is a big upgrade in size. That's quite a bit. A big reason not to buy is how big it is. You might find that holding something like this all the time might be cumbersome.

So I think a lot of it's gonna come down to your use like for me and the magic keyboard, it'll be great there. A little bit of movie watching, but I'm not always holding it. So something to think about, Now the second reason I'm buying one of these, is the M one processor. I have been really happy with this Mac book. It is the best computer I've ever owned.

And I say that because it has the best performance in something this small that I've ever seen. I've always had big machines because I needed the performance. So this has been great. So the idea that's gonna carry over to the iPad excites me. Part of me wonders that the M one chip allows on Macs to use iOS devices.

Are we just around the corner from the M one allowing Mac devices to go over to the iPad. I kind of feel like Apple's just gonna blend them in there. They're all gonna cost around the same price. So they make the same amount of money if not more in accessories. I'm wondering if they're just gonna blend them in that, we're gonna be able to do like final cut pro our CAD programs or anything that you can do on a laptop then it will happen on the iPad.

So I'm hoping, we'll see. But on the flip side of that, you got to buy for what it can do now. An iPad OS is designed to cover, you know older iPads, base level iPads, and developers design apps for lower iPads so that they could get as many people use them as possible. This M one chip this mind blowing performance that I experience here, it may not carry over to an iPad in the same way. So we're gonna have to see what happens there.

Cause it just might be overpowered. You might spend a bunch of money not notice that much of a speed difference. So if you're on the fence I'd wait until June the developer conference and see if anything new is announced. Now, reason three I want to get this, is that display. I love using my iPad.

I love Apple displays. This back here is a 38 inch, $1,500 ultra-wide color accurate one millisecond response time, 144 Hertz for gaming, a great monitor. I like my Apple monitor better. This you can see a little bit of the haze on that, that uses like a diffused anti-reflective coating. Apple, they just got theirs down and they're beautiful.

This is only gonna make it look better. It's gonna take it to that next level. With the control and the back lighting. This 12 point 9 inch uses 10,000 mini LEDs in it with 2,500 different zones. If you look at an image that has bright colors and then it has really dark maybe black in it with the 2,500 different zones as you would fade the back lining out in those darker spots.

Since you have such a big range, the contrast is incredible. They're saying it's a million to one contrast ratio breathtaking thousand nits of full screen brightness. That's bright. You're probably going to have to definitely turn that down. At 1600 nits of peak brightness, Samsung TV is 1500 nits of brightness and I have to run it at like 70%.

Then all the advanced color stuff with it. But that big thing is those mini LEDs. But, I go back, and that screen could be a reason not to buy too. You're paying an extra a hundred dollars because this technology and this screen is in this versus the previous year. You may not notice the difference.

I highly recommend go somewhere where you can see an 11 inch and the 12 point nine inch next to each other. Because you buy the larger size and maybe you don't necessarily want the larger size but you want a better quality screen. So really see if it's worth it cause it may not be noticeable for you. You might want to hold out. I can't imagine this isn't coming in the fall to the 11 inch.

Reason four that I want to get one of these, is that really they've become a computer alternative that 90 95% of stuff that I need to do, I can do on this. And I say 90, 95%. Cause there's a CAD program I need but once I become a full-time creator, I won't need that. Then there's final cut pro. And those are really the two things that keep drawing me back.

But using it as a computer alternative to a for a lot of people would work. And then you just are able to pop off the screen. You got a great media device. It does require thinking differently if you're going to go that route. But the flip side and reason number four reason not to buy it is not a computer.

Some things are clunky and annoying. Hopefully the two just merge. But iPad OS is not the same as Mac OS in there. And you might run into trouble. You might spend all this money getting a 12 point nine inch.

You get the keyboard, a one terabyte, and then it doesn't cover some of the apps that you may need. I've heard multiple times about people who take classes and their version of office doesn't have all the features that a desktop version would have. I recommend if you have an iPad try to use that as your only device for a week and see if you could get away with it. Now, reason five, why I want to get this is when I travel, my iPad pro is my main source of entertainment. When I'm in my hotel room, I stream off of here, to have that larger screen while watching content, and be able to get work done, sounds great.

They also have the four speakers on them. With the four speakers you get Dolby AtMos sound out of it. You have the four speakers. So you get stereo sound here, you rotate you get stereo sound. Really.

And the sound is incredible. Reason number five is how big of an update is this? We've seen as big of a jump with the M one as we think, is the M one gonna to be under utilized. Something to think about. Are you buying this because it has all the updates that the 11 inch is missing? If that's the case, I say, be patient wait till the fall. I can't imagine there's not going to be an 11 inch version of this.

Don't buy it unless you're comfortable with a big iPad. I mean, that's incredibly big versus my 11 inch iPad. That's a big step up. So think about that. I have some honorable mentions that I want to include.

This does have 5G. I wouldn't let that be a deciding factor unless you really know that where you're at has fast 5G. Cause I turned it off off mine on the iPhone, cause it was slower than 4G LTE. Another thing you get is the LIDAR scanner which measures light, determine distance. And that's where we're going to see more augmented reality stuff going on.

It's getting better to be able to place things within a room. But I talked about the Thunderbolt, that is great. That's gonna help with those external monitors. It can even drive the XDR pro display, $5,000 display incredible. That ultra wide front facing camera sounds really cool for the center stage option to be able to track if you're moving around or if someone else walks into the frame.

The magic keyboard is the same as the previous version. There's been no change to that. There's the white magic keyboard. I can't imagine how that's going to hold up with time. The biggest shame to me about this update is that the iPad pro 11 inch didn't get all these same upgrades.

A little disappointing. But at the end of the day, if you're considering an upgrade, I've gave this advice in my iMac video, don't buy into all the hype. People get super excited in the tech community, myself included. And everything's amazing. It's fun.

But remember people, even like myself are buying these things because they have a YouTube channel. So that adds that extra value or use that you may not have. Just give it a moment. Let the tech dust settle before you go out and buy one. I recommend if you're on the fence look at both of them in person, just so you could see if the screen update is worth the additional size or if you're like me, just pre-order one and get it for channel is what I always tell my wife.

Do you plan on getting one of the updated iPads? If not, are you using an iPad? And which one? Let us know in the comment section. Now, if you made it this far please give this video a thumbs up. It helps to get recommended to more people. If you haven't subscribed click that bell to get notified of the next video. Next, check out this video over here.

You can learn more about the new iMacs coming out and decide if you want to get one. It's good information in there, and I'm not just saying it cause I made it. I'll see you over there. Thanks for watching. Bye.
