NEW Apple iPad 8th Generation | Best Budget Tablet at $329? - Unboxing & Review

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this new iPad, 8th generation is pretty boring. If you want me to be completely honest, very little was changed from the previous seventh generation. Believe me, very little, so few things have changed. As a matter of fact, I could count the changes on one hand, but before we go raising our pitchforks, let's not forget that this sucker costs just 329 for the baseline Wi-Fi model granted at just 32 gigabytes of internal storage, a small rant on that later and only 299 for schools. Does this little guy live up to the hype, or is it just a big iPod, as some apple haters commonly say? Well, let's find out we're going to hit a pretty quick unboxing and then go over everything new. With this newly refreshed iPad, 8th generation come on, let's go so, as is customary on this channel.

We always have to go over a quick unboxing to see what kind of sauce apple has supplied this time around and, as is customary, we have our obligatory white apple box plain as ever on the front. The design hasn't changed for years, as we have a side profile of the device in your chosen color, as well as apple branding and iPad branding along the sides of the box. On the back, you get your storage capacity as well as the components of what comes inside if you've been subscribed to this channel for a while. This probably isn't anything new to you. Sadly, the budget model also skips out on a pull tab to assist kinda crazy.

You have to pay up more for a simple pull tab, but whatever remove the plastic and then lift open the box to find our brand new iPad in silver chilling, just waiting to be caressed and admired but hold on a second. We have to see what else we get inside, because we have one small tweak as you'll see. Now we get a lightning to USB c connector and a better, more improved 20 watt USB power adapter. This is leagues better than the stupid 5 watt adapter they used to supply. Like the am I supposed to do with this little charging box trying to recharge this massive iPad.

It took literal years to charge up from zero before with the five watt adapter, so hey shout out, Tim apple and the team over at apple HQ so far, so good apple, and now we go back to our majestic new iPad wrapped in this glossy protective film instead of a frosted protective film, but go ahead and remove that press, the power button and voil?. Ladies and gents the brand new iPad 8th generation, now going over a quick tour of the new iPad 8th gen, we can see our impressive 10.2 inch, retina display with multi-touch and IPS technology. This screen does feature a fingerprint resistant, oleo phobic coating, but misses out on some major features commonly found on apple's more expensive iPad offerings. The screen resolution has not changed from the previous model. It's all the same, and the display is not fully laminated, which has always been one of my biggest criticisms about this iPad.

Let me show you what I mean there seems to be a gap in between the actual display and glass. So if you look closely at one of the corners you'll be able to see it, it just makes writing with the Apple Pencil really weird, since it doesn't really feel like you're riding straight onto the glass. Because of that small gap, it's hard to explain. There is no anti-reflective coating p3 wide color gamut is not present here, no true tone and not a surprise to anyone, but that juicy pro motion, 120 hertz refresh rate, won't be found on this budget iPad. But still these are things the average consumer likely never even thinks about, or even cares.

So it's all good. Looking towards the bottom, we find our dual down firing. Speakers, as well as our lightning connector attention to detail, has been placed as, depending on what color you get you'll get a corresponding matching ring around the insert to the right. We don't have much going on, but our volume up and down button towards the top is our sleep. Wake switch a small microphone towards the middle and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack that is color matched as well. So getting a silver or rose gold will have a white matching insert while the space gray variant should be black and, on the left hand, side, you'll notice these three little circles.

This is for your smart connector reserved for apple's very own smart keyboard. We then see our color coded touch ID sensor and at the top, is our 1.2 megapixel front facing FaceTime HD camera, and if you have good eyesight you'll be able to notice the ambient light sensor on the iPads with the white bezels. This basically controls the auto brightness and finally turning it to the back. You'll see our beautiful aluminum finish: that's cold to the touch with iPad branding towards the bottom, your polished and color matching Apple logo and finally, our 8 megapixel wide camera lens with an f 2.4 aperture that remains unchanged from the previous generation externally, like I said, nothing has changed. We still retain the exact same chassis as the previous iPad 7th gen, albeit with a tiny modification to the weight of it.

Apparently, the iPad 8gen had one too many cheat meals, because it's technically ever so heavier coming in at seven grams. Heavier on the Wi-Fi only model and two grams heavier for the cellular, plus Wi-Fi model as compared to the previous generation. Could this mean a slightly bigger battery? Who knows? Sadly, this isn't a tear down channel, but on the topic of battery the iPad promises the same all-day battery as the previous version, which, by the way is our current reigning champ, who holds battery king title for the iPad line? I do know the air is coming out pretty soon and if the pros or mini get an update for the October event here in a few weeks, albeit unlikely, then a new iPad battery drain test will be in order. So definitely subscribe with bell. So you don't miss out on any of that, but yeah.

I have personally never had any issues with iPad's batteries. They easily get me through my day and with extra battery left over for schooling, kids on among us in the evening, whenever it's time to wind down apple promises, 10 hours of wireless web surfing officially and up to 9 hours if using cellular connectivity. The big takeaway for this new generation, though, is going to be that a12 bionic chip with the neural engine, a first for the budget iPad line for those that don't know the neural engine aids in machine learning, that is more energy efficient, rather than relying solely on the CPU and GPU. Luckily, for us for 329, we get a monster chip. We now feature the a12 as compared to the a10 found in the previous model, and let me tell you, the differences in performance are kind of scary.

You see if we head over to good old, geek bench 5. We see that the new 8th gen has definitely been taking its roads on the single core side. The 7th gen managed to edge out a 592, nothing all that impressive. You know pretty decent, but the agent cranked it up. A notch scoring 1116 nearly doubling the score of the 7th gen, which speaking of the in, did just that, but on the multi-core side, with the 7th gen iPad scoring 1210, while the in scored 26.48 for the multi-core sides, the a12 bionic with neural engine makes this iPad a very worthy laptop replacement, especially with those scores. Nearly doubling its multi-core score means.

This iPad will be better equipped for gaming AR multitasking and so much more than a matter of fact. Apple promises two times faster graphics and a 40 percent faster CPU as compared to the 7th gen. Make no mistake. This new, 8th gen is no slouch and should last you years of stability and support. My only gripe with this new iPad are the optional accessories that really transform this tablet into something more.

The iPad in supports only the first generation Apple Pencil and can also be combined with many wireless Bluetooth, keyboards and apple's very own smart keyboard. But in order to complete the package, you must drop an additional hundred bucks for the pencil and 150 dollars for the keyboard, bringing your grand total to now.579. Assuming you got the base 32 gigabyte model, which, by the way in 2020 32 gigabytes, is getting you nowhere. If you truly want this to be a laptop replacement at minimum, you'll want to bump up that storage, 32 gigabytes barely even fits all of my iCloud photos. Much less is it gonna, fit any documents or anything school related, and this is primarily who this iPad is targeted towards.

It's really targeted a lot towards college students who may not be able to afford the pro models but get the best bang for your buck with this budget iPad line, but seriously 32 gigabytes. If you're planning on using an iPad for school or for your work, 32 gigabytes is going to get you nowhere. My recommendation is to jump up to the next tier, but again, that's just going to bring your entry price a lot higher now, not so budget any more huh. It's still not nearing iPad Pro pricing, but still I know it's nitpick, because not everyone wants or needs the pencil and keyboard, but to truly get the most out of your iPad and iPadOS you're, definitely going to want the keyboard and pencil, especially with all the new Apple Pencil gestures introduced with iPadOS 14. So in the end, what are my thoughts on the new iPad, 8th gen? I think the budget iPad is probably the go-to for the good majority of people.

I'd say this iPad suits 70 to 80 percent of users and here's. Why? For one, the price point can't be beat literally just 329 dollars, and you get a very capable iPad with tremendous power and all day battery life and two the competition in the space is very scarce, which is probably why Apple isn't pressured all too much to make huge improvements to this iPad, but, to be quite honest, it's near perfect for what it sets to accomplish. It would be absolutely perfect if that 32 gigabytes was bumped up to 64 gigabytes, starting storage, but it is apple. It's the gateway into fully investing yourself into the Apple ecosystem, especially if you already have other apple products like an Apple Watch, iPhone or air pods. Furthermore, it has all the necessary features.

The common individual could ever ask for in a tablet sure this upgrade wasn't major. So if you already have the 7th gen iPad, there is very little incentive to upgrade unless that extra performance is a dealbreaker for you. I think whether you're an apple newbie, picking up your first iPad, whether you're a student or someone who simply wants to enjoy their content on a bigger display. This is it. This is what you're looking for right here at this price point.

Nothing is going to top it, at least with the current competition. The optional accessories do complete the whole experience, but you have to pony up more of your hard-earned cash in order to do so. So the choice is yours. I think if I had to choose one accessory over the other Apple Pencil or the keyboard, I'd personally go with the pencil because of all the cool new features. IPadOS brings to the table it's very intuitive and so much fun using the Apple Pencil.

I just wished. It had a better method of charging rather than looking like a unicorn, but there you have it guys minimal upgrades to an already very refined product. At this point, what else can apple add to the 9th gen iPad that isn't a processor boost like I said, I'd love to see a boost in starting storage, but I doubt we'll see any kind of redesign anytime soon what with this being a budget model and all, but I guess it's all possible. Let me know what you guys think. Are you a fan of the budget iPad or do you prefer another iPad within apple's tablet line? Let me know in the comments below and as always, please take care of yourselves and each other, and I cannot wait to catch you all in my next video you.
