NEW 2021 iPad Pro vs iPad Air 4 - Which iPad is the BETTER Buy?! By Rjey Tech

Apple just released their new m1 iPad pros, and it's getting a lot of attention for the right reasons, so you may be asking yourself what's really different this year and is it worth upgrading to the new m1s? To be quite honest with you, I wasn't planning on making this comparison video, but so many of you guys in my previous two iPad videos kept asking me if you should upgrade to the m1 iPad pros from your iPad Air 4. This comment from sandy really struck a chord with me. She commented that she got the 2020 iPad Air for just a couple of months ago, and she's wondering if she should get rid of her iPad Air 4 and upgrade to the new m1 iPad pros. There are a few things to keep in mind here. First off the iPad. Air 4 is an apple product, meaning that longevity is one of its core strengths.

You will receive software updates for at least the next five to six years, plus it comes with second generation Apple Pencil support and also compatible with the 11-inch multi keyboard this year with the m1 iPad Pro apple added, a thunderbolt 3 port beefed up the cameras, enhanced the display on the 12.9 inch variant and equipped the 2021 iPad Pro with the all powerful m1 chipset. So this surely must mean that this is the iPad to get right. Well, that is a difficult question to answer that we will tackle in this video. I sincerely want you guys to save as much money as possible, while also getting the best bang for your buck. So, let's break down this comparison, how's it going everyone.

My name is RJ and in this video we'll be comparing the m1 iPad Pro alongside the iPad Air 4 and try to find out which iPad is the better buy for you, based on your particular needs. So let's compare the prices in us dollars to keep things simple. Now, I'm going to be making the assumption that if you are in the market for either of these iPads, you most likely want to use it as a productivity device.

So a majority of you out there will be buying an Apple Pencil along with a magic keyboard. There are some good alternatives out there for keyboards, but take it from me. The magic keyboard is the best keyboard available for an iPad to date. If you want to save a few bucks and pick up an alternative I'll link, a few good ones that I do recommend in the description below. For the sake of argument, the 11-inch m1 iPad Pro with 128 gigabytes of storage, the magic keyboard and the second generation Apple Pencil comes to 1227 before taxes the 10.9-inch iPad Air is a little tricky. It's only offered in two storage options: 64 and 256 gigabyte, 64 gigabytes isn't enough for most individuals, especially if you are planning on using your iPad as your main go-to computer, I would suggest playing it safe and going with the 256 gigabyte option when you total the cost of a gigabyte, iPad, air, plus the magic keyboard and the second generation Apple Pencil.

The total comes up to 1177. You might be saying to yourself: that's only a 50 difference. Why would I not get the new m1 iPad Pro? Well, you got to consider the fact that, with the iPad Air 4 for 50, less, you are getting double. The storage at 256. Storage from Apple is not cheap, they do charge a premium for storage and 256 gigabytes of storage for 50 less on an iPad is very good value.

On the other hand, no pun intended. There are some neat new features on the m1 iPad Pro that may justify a lower storage capacity and a slightly higher price tag, but no matter which iPad you decide to go with. Do yourself a favor and protect your iPad's display using this, this is a paper-like screen protector, an accessory that I highly recommend, and let me tell you why a paper-like screen protector is what I like to call a multi-purpose screen protector. A single purchase comes in a pack of two, so you'll always have a replacement, handy and ready to go. The million-dollar question is: does paperlike really give you that enhanced feeling, like you are writing on paper? To be quite honest with you, it does, and it does make a big difference when you are writing or drawing on your iPad, but don't take my word for it.

Take a listen to this comparison for yourself, and you can hear the difference in texture between an iPad using paper like and an iPad without paper like so, as you guys heard for yourself paper like makes a big difference in enhancing your writing experience. There's also this matte finish to the screen protector that helps reduce glare and reflections. This is great, if you do use your iPad outdoors or under a bright light. If you hate fingerprints on your iPad as much as I do, this screen protector does keep fingerprints to a minimum as an added bonus. Not many people know this, but the tip of your Apple Pencil does wear out over time, and you do have to eventually replace it, but with a paper-like screen protector on it will maintain the tip of your Apple Pencil for as long as possible, so yeah asides from the magic keyboard.

This is a must-have accessory that I do recommend if you want to pick up a paper-like screen protector for your iPad link is pinned in the comments below both iPads support, an aluminum build with thin bezels, highlighting the display with the iPad Air.4, though you do have a plethora of color options to choose from. I went with the rose gold color option, and I think this combination with the new white monkey keyboard just looks so good. And surprisingly, after about 10 days of usage, the white magic keyboard is still looking pretty clean. What I love about the iPad Air 4 is that embedded within the power button is a touch I'd fingerprint scanner. I know that this is a very unpopular opinion, but I very much prefer touch ID over face ID.

I just find touch ID to be way more convenient and more responsive in general, especially for those days when I'm in bed, and I'm trying to unlock my iPad but face ID is having a hard time recognizing half of my face. Eventually, after many failed attempts to unlock, I'm prompted to enter my passcode, and I'm really thinking to myself. What's the point of face ID so in terms of biometrics, give me touch ID over face ID any day of the week over on the back. The iPad Air 4 supports a single 12, megapixel, wide angle, camera and the m1 iPad Pro supports a dual camera layout, with a 12 megapixel wide and a 10 megapixel ultrawide, I think a 10 megapixel ultra-wide is overkill on an iPad. I just can't think of a single scenario where I'm going to be pulling on my iPad to take an ultra-wide angle, shot.

Here's where these iPads slightly differ, the m1 iPad Pro is equipped with a thunderbolt 3 part, whereas the iPad Air 4 uses a standard USB port. So what does that exactly mean? Well with the m1 iPad Pro you will have faster data transfer speeds, sometimes even up to 2 times the transfer rate speeds as USB c. Comparing the design on both of these iPads is a toss up to preference. Really not much is really different on the design front. Yes, the bezels are a bit thicker on the iPad Air 4, but nothing to lose your mind over with both these iPads.

You get a thin light tablet, making it super easy to handle and use on a day-to-day basis. You may have heard that the m1 iPad Pro comes with a stunning new Dr display. Well, that's only partially true, only the 12.9 inch variant comes with the all new mini LED display. The 11-inch like the one that I have right here comes with a regular liquid retina display, that's not to say that this display is lacking. It's a very good display that will be enjoyed by many.

It's just that you won't be getting that stunning HDR experience, but it does seem, like mini led on the 12.98 iPad. Pro is dealing with a lot of blooming issues so for right now the 11-inch variant might have been the way to go. Both the m1 iPad Pro and the iPad Air 4 come with very similar display. Specs the iPad Air 4 comes with a resolution of 1640x2360 for a PPI of 264. The m1 iPad Pro comes with a resolution of 1668 by 2338 for a PPI of 265.

, so a very negligible difference in resolution and pixel density. When you compare the screen to body ratio, the iPad Air 4 comes with a screen body ratio of 81.3 percent. Meanwhile, the 11-inch iPad Pro has an 82.9 screen to body ratio. Once again, despite the thicker bezels on the iPad a4, the difference in screen to body ratio is negligible. However, there is a slight difference in brightness.

The iPad Pro is a hundred nits brighter than the iPad Air 4. , but this isn't very noticeable side by side, but that could just be me, I mean sure the iPad Pro has slightly better display specs, but unless you are a display nerd, you will be able to tell the difference between these two displays. Now. This is where the displays really differ and that my friends is the refresh rate you see. The iPad Air 4 uses a standard 60hz display.

Meanwhile, the m1 iPad Pro uses apple's pro motion technology that gives the iPad Pro panels 120hz refresh rate. This allows for smoother scrolling fluid animations and a much smoother experience when you are taking notes or drawing with the Apple Pencil. I am a huge fan of 120 hertz. All of my android devices come with that high refresh rate, but I am having a really difficult time experiencing that high refresh rate on an iPad. This could be because I don't scroll as much through my iPad as I do on my phone, so I don't experience 120hz as much as I would like on the iPad Pro.

So, if you are like me, and you feel like you could live without 120hz promotion, then the iPad Air 60hz panel will serve you. Just fine performance is what sets both of these iPads apart. One of the biggest selling points of the new m1 iPad Pro is the inclusion of the m1 chipset, which first debuted last year, the 2021 iPad Pro is the first iPad to use the m1 chipset and Apple does claim that the new outscore chipset will offer 50 faster CPU performance and 40 better graphic performance over the 2020 iPad Pro, which did rely on the a12z. Do not sleep, though, on the iPad Air 4. , the iPad Air 4 is equipped with the a14 by the chipset, with the explore CPU and a quad-core GPU.

What does all of this mean exactly well? It means the performance on the iPad. Air 4 is more than adequate for the average to go. You see all the power that the m1 offers needs to be put to better use. Apple, didn't show off any of the new m1-ready iPad apps at its spring-loaded event, which does bring up the question. Do you really need all of this extra performance, given that all of these pre-existing apps work, fine on existing iPad hardware, tailored apps will likely come down the line in one form or another, particularly since the m1 max can run iPhone and iPad apps alongside native mac, OS apps, but bigger benchmark scores alone, don't make for a good reason to spend over a grand on a new tablet? If you are willing to pay for performance, the new m1 iPad pros are most definitely better, but that doesn't make the iPad Air 4 entirely obsolete.

Comparing the battery life between these two iPads was actually pretty surprising. I figured due to the efficiency of the m1 chipset that the m1 iPad Pro would have much better screen on times. In my testing, which consisted of a full day of web browsing media consumption and a few hours of gaming, I was able to get around 10 hours of screen on time on both of these tablets. This is very similar to the screen on time. I was getting on my 2018 12x9 iPad Pro, so not much has changed in the battery department, with both these iPads you'll be more than satisfied with the 10 hours on a full charge.

I do have to compare these speakers. While the iPad Air 4 looks like it has a quad steering speaker setup with the four grilles. Only two of these grilles actually have working speakers. Meanwhile, the m1 iPad Pro has a quite stereo speaker setup, and this thing is a monster when it comes to sound quality. Here's a quick comparison for you guys now I don't necessarily take too many pictures on my iPad.

I just think no matter who you are holding up an iPad to take pictures in public is very awkward. That being said, though, the iPad Air force still takes some pretty decent pictures. There's good color accuracy and images are generally sharp and in focus even for video calls the front facing 7. Megapixel camera did a surprisingly good job. The m1 iPad Pro by comparison sports, the same 12 megapixel wide and 10 megapixels ultrawide that we saw on last year's 2020 iPad pros.

But the focus this year is on the new front, facing 12 megapixels, true depth sensor, which is found on the m1 iPad Pro there's a new feature this year called center stage that uses the iPad Pro's ultra-wide angle. Camera during video calls to automatically track and zoom in on someone as they move in the frame. It's a really neat feature that works surprisingly well in most environments and is perfect for work team meetings, as you guys saw for yourself in this comparison, the iPad Air 4 does just about everything. The m1 iPad Pro can do for potentially a lot less money. Depending on the configuration you decide to go with, if you don't care about having the latest and greatest iPad, then the iPad Air 4 is still a great value tablet to buy it's more than powerful enough and still sports, a very modern, looking design when you pair it with the magic keyboard.

It also gives you a decent laptop replacement, but if you do want to pay a premium for the best tablet, that apple has to offer then go with the m1 iPad Pro. You will not be disappointed. Its performance is stellar, and it is future-proof for many years to come. After.
