Motorola Edge+ Unboxing and Tour!

It's, going on guys welcome back killing here again with droid life, so in front of me is Motorola's return to the flagship arena. This is the Motorola edge, plus it's exclusive to Verizon, of course, but it is a big step for Motorola. Once again, after making years and years of mid-range is phones, we now have a top tier one: that's going to compete with Samsung and OnePlus, and google I, guess, and I guess: Apple ?, so we'll review it. But of course, before we do that we need to unbox it. So here's our motor allege + unboxing. Now, as we dive in here, the big thing to know is: has all the specs pretty much all the specs, even some over the top of one plus and Samsung, it does cost a thousand bucks, though.

So this is by no means a super cheap phone. That's going to come in at you know, 500 bucks, like some of the last Motor z phones did this thing is a thousand Motorola. Is pricing it up there with the big dawgs with that you get quite a bit of stuff. So a thousand bucks, though that's full retail if you buy it at a monthly payment price, it's 4166 per month for 24 months again. This is only on Verizon.

So if you're, you know not on Verizon don't plan to be anytime soon, you could probably stop watching, but if you are, or you're interested to see, if Motorola has made a comeback, it is now time. So here is the phone comes in two colors smokey sangria and thunder gray. As you can see there, that is not sangria colored. So, yes, I do have the the Thunder gray version. Let's see what else is in the box, though, where we dive into the phone we have guides I'm not going to dive into those.

There could be a sim removal trade tool thing in there as well, and then here we have looks like USB see you must be a 2 USB see you know it's its in there, I promise USB a 2 C, and then this is a turbo power. Charger um, it is I, don't know how fast it is. It doesn't say anywhere. Handy I believe this phone charges up to 18 Watts wire charging. Hopefully this is an 18 watt wired trigger anything else in the box.

No doesn't look like there's anything else in the box, so no earbuds or anything like that. This phone does have a headphone jack anyways. Let me wipe all this away and let's look at it time to unwrap. So it's not on here very nicely, but whatever it's nitpicking, soft nitpicking, kaolin plastic gone okay, so here's the phone. So again, this is thunder gray, very moreish, very pretty I mean Motorola ever since Lenovo sort of took over and has probably had some influence in what the designs like.

I will say that their designs have been quite nice, all their Motorola. One phones, look really, really great. This also looks great again. The smokey sangria is sort of a purplish reddish wine is color, whereas this is thunder gray um. Let's, let's turn on large phone suspects.

Look at that the boot screen looks like the back very nice touch there. Alright, let's run through specs, as this is doing whatever it's doing before we get into probably all the Verizon blow wary stuff. So six point seven inch OLED display. That is a full HD resolution, so 1080p, not quite HD. Full HD is probably fine for most people do 790 Hertz, refresh rate, so smoother display Samsung's, doing 120 Hertz at Full HD, one plus is doing 120 Hertz up to quad HD, so 90 Hertz here full HD, look full HD in 90 Hertz are both gonna, be fine, snapdragon 865, so the newest, great latest and greatest processor from Qualcomm.

This does have 5g. Although I live in Portland, there's no 5g here, I'm not paying for the 5g. But if you live in one of those 5g places of Verizon, which is their millimeter wave, this phone can do it: superfast, 256, gigabytes of storage, that's UFS, 3.0 storage, so plenty of storage, no SD slot, though so you got that storage and that's it 12 gigs, lpddr4 amp, so the fastest Ram has plenty of RAM triple camera setup. Here. The big guy a hundred eight megapixel sensor, F 1.8 optical image, stabilization, and then you have a 16 megapixel ultra-wide eight megapixel telephoto. So that's your sort of triple camera layout, they're very interested to test out these cameras up front over here.

Twenty-five megapixels see if I can show to you there. It is twenty-five megapixel front, selfie F 2.0 inside you also have a five thousand William hour battery, which is quite large in five thousand William hour with a 1080p display at ninety Hertz. This thing might last for two and a half days we shall see you can charge that with 18 watt wired fast charging. It also does wireless charging at 15 watts, and then this can do wireless power-sharing. Where you could.

You know like throw some buds on there and charge some buds or something like that, so it does do the power-sharing, Bluetooth, 5.1, again 5g Wi-Fi, six NFC USB, see down here on the bottom, see if you can see that they're so USB see down here on the bottom. This is your SIM tray right here as well, and then, if we rotate up top, there is well something we don't see. Very often that is indeed a three-and-a-half millimeter headphone jack phone weighs 203 grams, which is sort of heavy, but it's got sort of a nice thin profile. You can really hold this in one hand. Of course, the one thing I haven't mentioned yet which we shall see how I feel about after using it, it does have an edge display.

I mean the name is edge. Plus there is a legitimate, rounded edge here on the display. You can see it right there, so Motorola's built in some features, though, to make that maybe possibly less annoying or make it useful. You can even turn it off, I think so. Anyways um, that's an overview of the specs and a quick tour of the hardware.

Oh, I forgot to mention. We got buttons on this side. Volume. Rocker power switch here, nothing on this side. That is not a fingerprint reader right there that motor logo the finger / reader is actually in the display so ready to see some software.

Lets uh. Let's dive in all right, we have cruise pass and this software so here is the phone. Can you guys see the edge niche going on here this? So this is the wallpaper they came out of the box, I'm, not sure if I move it. If it'll change, oh yeah, see if I swipe around you see the water like kind of moving and then when you get the water going, you can really see it sort of falling over the waterfall edge. Here it is look I'm, not going to lie.

It looks very cool I, don't know how practical it will be to use the phone is like insanely long so reaching up there could be difficult, I mean they did include a little spike down, so I don't have to reach up there when I'm at the home screen. It actually feels good width wise, like you can hold this. You can pretty much reach to the other side of the phone, which is cool, it's just very tall and then the edges I mean we obviously have to worry about. Like mistaken presses, but I mean like here. It is here being.

Here's from the side view like you can see the display there eh, you can see stuff happening so anyways, it's its very clean software. It's Android, ten Motorola has done a really nice job over the years of kind of leaving the software as Google sets it and then kind of adding some stuff like their motor suite, which you can see here. So with this phone you once again have motor actions, so you can, you know twist and that launches the camera. Hopefully I can go back. Please just let me get out of here.

Okay, you can hatch down like that chop chop and get the flashlight to come on. So those shortcuts are there, which are you knowing, very cool. We've always been a fan of those. You have motor display back again. So if you're on the lock screen, and you tap usually tap yeah you'll get a clock and then, if you have notifications, you can press and hold on stuff, and it'll like to let you peek at those I.

Obviously don't have any right now. So I can't show you that, but so motor displays back edge touch is this? Well, it's going to be hard to see, but there's this little line right there, which is this edge, touch thing which allows you to do one of two things. So you could double tap that you'll see I'm getting an arrow down it says edge display cannot be turned off. So there's this little sensor, they've sort of put there in the software. If you double tap that it'll take away the edge display, so it'll bring the software back up to the top of the edge.

It doesn't work everywhere, but you can do it in places like the phone for sure. If you don't want it to do that, you can also have it just switch to the last app. So if I go down here and let's just open like Google Play or something so if I double tap that see it takes me back, double tap takes me back and then, if I change it to this, and now I double tap, you can see how the edges now come up, and it's no longer fully edged out. You just see that I'll tap, it again sees how the edge is spreading out, and now it's shrunk back up so yeah there you go. It's yeah pretty good there, so you can turn the edges off mostly, so you no longer have to swipe, or the content isn't dragging around so much, and it looks like you can do this in quite a few places.

So let me go into settings here just to show you this I promise. I won't spend too much on this time. We'll have lots of videos to talk about software, but if you go into display and drop, there's edge lights, which are those things that companies have been doing for a while, where, if you put the phone face down I, don't know who the hell puts their phone face down. But if you do, you can have the edges light up when you get notifications and things. But what is going on bring me back to settings? Please ok edge display.

So here you can actually turn off. You can go in and customize whether you want the edge display to show for certain apps. So I can actually turn it off, so it'll never be on with Google Play or like the calculator or YouTube. So you can go in like Gmail. I, probably don't want things wrapping around, so you can turn it off.

So every time I open, Gmail, the the wrap display will just kind of be turned off, which is kind of cool. Anyway they had, they did give you some settings where you can play with it to get sort of the optimal experience. I, don't want to die too far in, but this is the Motorola's edge plus again clean software. Android 10, which we appreciate I, should point out that when the phone was first announced, Motorola would only commit to one big software update that would be Android 11 they've, since sort of locked that back, or I should say maybe taking a step forward and said: ok, fine we'll do at least two major OS updates, so that should mean Android, 11 and then 12 and then, if they actually go beyond that, there could be Android 13 not either way. You will get an extra update thanks for fighting the good fight.

Dear people, what else can I show you like I said this is mostly sort of just clean Android. There is this Styles thing where motor rolls letting you sort of customize the look of icon and fonts, and things like that colors all that stuff. So you can change some of that stuff. That's one of their new things. You notice! The gesture system is Android tens, so you do have Android ten gestures where you swipe up and hold, and I get you into the app switcher still have access to your app drawer.

You can swipe across this to go in between apps down there at the bottom. So that's there, you can see the whole punch. What else this will fire up that camera one last time, there's that not Oh double tapping the power button out of the box does not launch the camera. That's probably because you can do that right there to get into it. So camera 180-acre, pixel main sensor with some other ones.

You can shoot macros with the ultra-wide as well. You can see it pixel bins using their quad pixel technology down to 27 megapixel photos. Those are still huge by the way, video, that's the selfie camera video. You can do up to 6k a couple of different resolutions. I believe that's 30 frames per second, not 60.

If you want to do 60, you could have to shoot in full HD. They won't even do 60 at 4k, but you can't go up to 6k. If you want to go crazy with the resolution, that's mostly, it turned the grid on leveler. Yes, some other fun stuff in there. The camera came pretty excited to play with that I, don't know what else you guys want to know.

Please let us know in the comments. I'm sure you've already noticed some bloatware. Well, we'll talk more about that. Later too, you can see it in here. Candy Crush saga, shortcuts and Snapchat was pre-loaded and Psalter I mean there's, there's some garbage.

It is a carrier phone either way a thousand dollar motor edge. Plus this is thunder gray, there's, also smoky sangria. The phone looks actually really nice. It feels really nice in the hand and premium can't wait to actually dive in which we're going to do right now. So if you have comments questions, let us know down below.

We are droid life, peace.
