[Journalists Hangout] Tributes Pour In For The Late Mohammed Fawehinmi

Begin the show today, on a rather sad note, Nigeria lost one of its lawyers and human rights advocates. Mohammed Hawaii me on Wednesday Muhammad was named the son of the late human rights advocates. That's chief Gandhi. Farming died at the age of 52. This is a big loss to the father and his family. This is a big loss.

I remember before the chief died. That's to going to find himself as at that time we were looking for that time. Mohammed was the one that was going to take over to kind of find wisdom before that terrible accident and after that time shift going forward actually said that that chamber should be locked and because of the state's moment you know it was at that point in time, and so this is shocking at the age of 52. It's really shocking. It was vitamins elder son, and it was the fellow who told the line of his father, though he did not actually start his academic career as yes, but ultimately he went to real law and that made his father happy because every big lawyer, every judge, wants to have one of his children.

Read law because they have so many books and the question is who then here are those books? If you do not have a child who will take after you, so the late guardian foreign was happy that at least he had a son who would take up time. Unfortunately, the accident happened and confined him to the wheelchair. The name was full of regrets. He said that if our health system was better, that Muhammad's case would not have degenerated to that level. There was an interview that we had with him where he complained about the state of our health services.

Remember even the late garnet himself before it was. He was eventually diagnosed or us suffering from cancer here in one of the best hospitals in our country. When he went to hospital to complain, they actually diagnosed him as suffering from pneumonia, and because of that derivation of the cancer continued to continue until his daughter took him to the U. S. It was at the U.

S. that they discovered all along your dad had been suffering from yes. So this is a case of misdiagnosis. You know, which means Ghana will probably live longer. Yes, if they are diagnosed yes, so they can continue to spread.

Now we have. It is terrible, and I can feel the pain of the family that this at this stage. They don't even want to see anyone, because this, this pain is difficult to bear. Who takes the question is who now, because, after all of this Muhammad had been in charge of the chambers, as well as the the library, the law publication, the company? What who now will take over given what has happened he's so sad, so sad, 52, yeah, a very, very sad development. Muhammad 5 million has gone the way of every matter.

God gives god takes um, but he'll, be. You know, slowly lost he'll, be remembered as one of the country's voices of reason. You know he remained an activist even to his very last moments and, like some have said, he did justice to the memory of his father, who liked to comment with his family uh and to the rest of uh, uh Nigerians I have joining us is Richard Akola, a journalist and a close friend to the firemen. Thank you for joining us Richie. Thank you.

How will you describe the bit of Muhammad follow me? What is the personal loss to me? I mean I felt devastated yesterday because I mean of my close relationship with the family and with Muhammad himself, and it was we had a way of existing, and I mean exchanging banters, and I mean it was I was initially I was in a was in dinner because I felt I know they didn't have this. This is not possible, so eventually I mean I had to accept the reality. If I just now that I'm beginning to get myself back because of last night, I mean the evenings took their last night about us. I was somebody else so, but um I after ruminating by the whole thing this morning, I felt perhaps that would have been the best day for him, because since september 23, 2003, when he had an accident at the Maryland, I mean life had not been the same again and when he was first taken to a booby that day there was no MRI. There will be.

There was no ct scan nowhere in Lagos. We would get this kind of MRI so unfortunately, because um, when somebody had a spinal cord injury once I mean uh, someone has touched him. That means something would have moved so and when he got it would be, and they felt that well, look it's unfortunate, so the second day, so his father had to fly him to London immediately where he spent seven months in different hospitals and came back continued, his uh the treatment and was in that time had been confined to the wheelchair, and it was able to. Despite that, I believe that the most willpower I mean got him up to this point, because he always felt that one day he was just standing on his feet and that I'm sure that was how I got into this point because um otherwise I mean for somebody who could not use his hands and who cannot use his legs, and they had to be dependent on somebody else for 24 hours. I mean that was no joke.

That's why I felt that they had maybe that's the best thing for him, because uh everybody for the best for him to go, because having been in that kind of situation for that's almost 18 years, I mean that was quite devastating and, of course, for Danny to be seen his first child who was born when it was a detention in that kind of state, with the retoucher for any parent. So but of course know that he too had his own very strong. Will I believe in god our words I mean uh healing will come over the other, but uh, but mo did not allow that to distract him? Even after that chief died, he took charge of the general obligations in which he was chairman of yesterday or the journal of publications and, of course, the whole entire and refined family and the first child. So and of course I mean he was always involved in all the activities in the civil society I mean anyway, even if it meant it would come late, it would make sure that he made an appearance, and that was something unique about him. And, of course I mean a couple of protests we did and himself and mother were part of it.

In fact, it was one of these protests so, but let's find out, I mean he still appeared in courts, I mean on some occasions, and he still managed to write at least about two books. One of thank you for that insight into the life of Mr Mohammed found me late moment for me. Thank you for your contribution. You have to rest. Yes, you have to rest um.

Richard has put it so simply as painful as it must have been to Richard. He put himself in this place and look if you have to be dependent on people 24 hours after 24 hours. There are times when you tell yourself that easily watch it. Is it really what it? Because you feel that you are subjecting other people to too much pain on your own account, so it's uh, it's terrible. We wish that that accident never happened in the first because god never had me deserved, not just the best, but the best successful.

The best successful that came from his own loins. This is a huge blue, and I'm really concerned about where, where the faraway Mays go from here, I'm really concerned about that, because if he came up with ideas that lawyers that why even more successful than him never came up with at that time, they marked out the weekly lord. He wants to do that was his own immortal contribution to jurisprudence in our country, successful lawyers who became sons before him who are power each other him. They never thought that they needed to give back to that profession in form of the weekly law reports and even some of his enemies will go to court and be sighted a weekly law reports published by Ghana. If our members is sometimes contention about it, you know so now.

I just hope that those companies will be in good hands and that's the name. The flame of garden fork will not burn out. We you.
