Is the OnePlus 8 worth an extra $200 over the 7T?

I've been using the 1+8 for a couple of days now and I, really like it, it's a great phone, but I'm not sure if it's a phone that I can recommend. Most people go out and buy right now, and that's mostly because of this. This is the one plus 70 it came out last October, and it offers a nearly identical experience to that of the one plus eight for two hundred dollars less. So let's be clear right from the beginning that, if you're considering either of these two phones right now, the 70 is the better buy. Like no question but of course, they're, not the exact same phone, so let's go over where they're different and why somebody might still want to buy the one plus eight anyway. Let's start by quickly going over the hardware.

The designs on both of these phones are very similar they're only about six months apart. After all, the two main differences are the curved edges along the display of the OnePlus 8 and the different shaped camera housings. So the OnePlus 70 has this circular sort of dome shaped camera housing that never bothered me, but a lot of people complained about it online, while the 1+8 I think will appeal to more people with its sort of simpler vertical stack. The other main advantage of the 1+8 is it's newer, snapdragon 865 processors. Now the caveat there is that the 865 requires Qualcomm's x, 55 modems, which is 5g capable in English.

That means that whether you live in a city that even has 5g you're going to be paying for it and that's largely where this price bump comes from. That's especially frustrating, because even if you live in a city where 5g is currently available, it's still just not ready for consumers. Yet the millimeter wave technologies that carriers like Verizon use are superfast, but offer really poor range. While sub 6 works exactly the opposite, you get much better range, but speeds that aren't much faster than LTE now, as 5g has time to expand and develop over the next few years. Having the OnePlus 8 right now means that you're not going to have to buy another phone later on.

Just to use 5g, but right now it's just not worth spending the extra money on. If you don't have to on the upside. The snapdragon 865 is also just a faster, more power efficient processor now. Does that mean you're going to be able to see the difference in performance versus the 70s 855 plus? Well, no, but the 865 does have another trick up its sleeve better image processing see both phones have basically the same 48 megapixel primary sensor with 4 to 1, pixel, binning and 12 megapixel output, and while neither phone is going to take on the likes of the pixel 4 or the galaxy s 20, the 1+8 manages better balanced, more consistent photos, though the differences in the lenses themselves are a bit odd. That 70 has a pretty standard array of wide ultra-wide and telephoto lenses with the OnePlus 8.

They actually got rid of that telephoto lens in favor of digital zoom, on the main sensor and in its place, dropped in a 2 megapixel macro lens. Now that seems strange to me, because the 17 was already capable taking macro shots and with only two megapixels to work with the 1+8 macro photos. Look pretty soft anyway, but either way these are both fairly capable cameras with their own sets of unique quirks. Now before we wrap things up, I want to pause for a second to talk about this. Video sponsor expression I feel like most people watching.

This has probably used a VPN too for, but if you haven't, they're a great way to keep your browsing activity private and even visit websites and stream media, that's intended for other regions with expression you get access to over 3,000 servers worldwide, with no bandwidth limits and 24/7 customer support. Expression keeps your IP address hidden and doesn't slow down your internet in the process. You can get three months of expression for free when you sign up for an annual plan, and they offer a 30 day. Money-back guarantee links are in the description thanks to expression for sponsoring this video I feel like the 1+8 is boxed into this sort of weird pricing situation, where, if your OnePlus has sort of typical customer base that wants the best phone for the lowest price, you should still get the 70 for 500 bucks. You get almost everything the OnePlus 8 has to offer.

The only thing you're really missing is 5g, which nobody really needs at this point in time. On the other hand, if you want the most powerful phone that can take on other flagships well, you should look at the OnePlus 8 pro. Instead, for two hundred dollars more, you get IP 68 water resistance, 30 watt, wireless charging, better cameras, the OnePlus 8 pro is by all means. OnePlus is first total flagship, and if that's what you're looking for word, you should buy that. Instead, the 1+8 is a great phone, and it's the one that I'm keeping my sim card in for the foreseeable future, because well, I didn't get an A pro.

But if you already have the 70 there's really no reason to upgrade to the 8 I would just wait for next year's model or upgrade to the 1 plus 8 pro. If you really need a new phone right now, that's gonna! Do it for this video. If you enjoyed it, please give it a like and subscribe to the channel. We've got full reviews on the OnePlus 78 and 8 Pro. So if you're interested in any of those phones go give those a watch in the meantime, thanks for watching we'll see you next time stay safe.

You.
