I phone Telus max versus Galaxy Note, 9, which one has held up better now that it's 2020 when I first reviewed these phones, they were well over a thousand dollars, but now yes, now you can get the iPhone 10s max for way less money and the Galaxy Note 9 for even less money, which one should you buy in 2020 when it comes to the bodies. Well, the iPhone 10s max to me kind of looks more fresh, a little more modern just because the front of it looks just like the current iPhone and if the rumors are true, maybe the notch is only going to get a little smaller. This phone is still not going to feel that dated you combine that with the software we'll get into that later, but the body of this phone itself just feels unless you start looking at that camera, the square design camera is kind of the new thing. The iPhone 10s max to me kind of held on a little longer in terms of the looks department. However, it was heavier than the note, but it did feel a little easier to grip on the corners. Now the Galaxy Note 9 doesn't hold true in the same way reason.
Why is because Samsung is definitely I, think innovating more in terms of stretching their display. Then you know Apple is so what that means. Let me turn off the dark mode. Really quickly is that, while these bezels are nice, that they don't have any obtrude on your display they're starting to look a little old by comparison to some newer Samsung devices, including things like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 OSI, the iPhone 10s max to the 11pro max. So for that reason, I do think the note looks a little older, also the rear of this phone.
The camera I was never my favorite design, but overall I think the body is still very good for a note device, and this was one of my favorite overall note devices ever it's well constructed. It does have a headphone jack at the bottom. It does have dual speakers. Furthermore, it feels sturdy. Furthermore, it feels premium so yeah.
The note is still a very good pick, even though it doesn't have the most modern design in terms of build quality, though I'd say the 10s max has a better build quality overall in terms the stainless steel and the Galaxy Note scratches a little easier. I found the body just scratches easier over my time so from a pure, build quality standpoint. I do think the iPhone is a little better when it comes to these two, that's just what I've experienced using both of them, and so that brings me on to display now in the past I've said. The note has the better display amongst these two, and that still holds true to me. To this day, I mean it's a very vibrant display.
It has video enhancer mode. You can change it. The who resolution. This hasn't changed in 2020. The iPhone is a Samsung display here, and it's also beautiful, but it's a lot more toned down.
It doesn't look quite as vibrant and, unlike the 11pro Max, this one doesn't get as bright as like the 11pro Mac, so that was a big separator for the 11pro Max. The note and this phone are similar in the brightness category, so both of these have good displays. You wouldn't be going wrong with either, but if you want a better display, I think the note is still the better panel, especially because there's no up through sins on video stuff, like that it looks fantastic, and the square design does really lend well to the Galaxy Note.9 and the square design does lend well to using the s-pen and with the newer software, you could write on the calendar and stuff like that. There are new features. You know this is a great square design, for you know writing with your S Pen Galaxy, Note 9, and so while some people might like the more curvy looks of the iPhone, there's a reason why it's square.
For the note when it comes to software, the Galaxy Note running Android 10 1, UI 2.0, you know the iPhone stays up to date. It gets the latest 13.4 coming to it soon now, which one is better, for you know everyday software and for me, it just comes down to do you want more productivity? Do you want more features, or do you want a more simple operating system because both of them are still up-to-date, so you can, I say like oh well, you know notes out of date already? No, it's not! It's going to get the latest 2.1 as well. However, what you can keep in mind between these two is that if you want to buy the iPhone 10s max- and you want to keep it a long time right now or the galaxy now and I would almost bet if you're going to pay for 500 bucks for one of these you're going to want to keep it a year or two, maybe three years, even the notes, probably gonna, run out of software updates by then it's already, you know been like a year or two for this one, so it's not going to get updated much longer for the note nine, whereas the 10s max will continue to be updated. So if you want to pick one of these two for software, just keep in mind that the note 9 is headed towards end-of-life, and it's only been out since 2018, because Samsung doesn't update their phones way into the future, whereas the iPhone is gonna, be supportive for quite some time, and that could be the dealbreaker right there. If you do want these iPhone or this note 9 well, how have they held up with performance? Now the Galaxy Note 9 has held up very well.
This phone is not slow whatsoever. If anybody tells you that they're lying to you, because the Galaxy Note 9 has zero lag, it doesn't have the smoothest animations, like you, know the 120 Hertz S 20, but it's still a very fast phone and keeps up just fine and even beats the iPhone 10s Macs in many instances, so I think if you're looking for a very fast phone either them will please you now. The Galaxy Note 9 also does give you the ability to tweak your animations like I'm, showing you here in this video. You can go right here, reduce your animations. You can also go in developer, options, make them even faster and the note 9 did get the one UI gesture.
So if you don't want these home buttons anymore, you could just go to navigation bar here and put on your full screen gestures like the iPhone. Initially you weren't able to get such a full screen on the Galaxy Note 9 at first, but now you can do that when I, really Galaxy Note 9 is still going to crush that iPhone over there is its ability to multitask. This is not even a note, 9 things anymore. This is just a Samsung thing, really there's the ability to have split screen views you can pop things and with the s-pen. It is the game changer between an iPhone and a Galaxy Note I mean you look at all this productivity.
You can do I still think. The note is one of the best options for people are not gonna. Have a laptop, or they're not going to have a tablet. They want to do everything on their phone you're. Just not going to beat the note.
So when it comes to storage, which one should you buy in 2020. Well, you can get a 512 gig, Galaxy Note 9 for cheaper than a 56, gig, tennis max so better value to the note easily. This was one of the first Samsung's introducing that large level of storage, and it's fast storage to in here. You also do have the ability to expand the storage up to a terabyte, a terabyte on the note 9, and this phone is less than like 600 bucks right now. So you tell me a phone in the budget arena.
You know that's giving you this type of performance and power. As the note 9 I'll wait, you know because I don't I, don't know of any phone, giving you a terabyte of storage that you can buy at the same pricey as a used note 9 when it comes to their audio performance. Both of them are very loud. Let's have a listen to the tennis max. Let's hear the note 9, with its Dolby Atmos fired up.
The note sounds a little louder, the iPhone a little clearer crisper, you can say at the highs now. Let's just put it this way. Both of them have great audio performance, but the key separator is the Galaxy, has a headphone jack and has Bluetooth 5.0, just like iPhone tennis max so for me, I always like to have the note 9 for audio stuff when it comes to their cameras, which one came out on top well go check out. My full comparison between these two I'll leave a link and a card up above or down below and scrub to the camera section where we showed multiple samples, I found that the iPhone 10s max wanted out in video pretty much every time the Galaxy Note 9 kept up pretty easily in the photo department. Now the Galaxy Note 9 also has like a little of a difference when it comes to you, the selfie camera.
So when you take photos on the selfie cameras, or both of these I found that the iPhone will give you a little of a better performance, it gives you something more natural, maybe you might like, whereas with the Galaxy Note 9, you do get a little of a softer. Looking selfie photo so overall I have to say both of them are very competitive, though it comes to their actual features that the note has more features than the iPhone within the camera. You have things like a night mode. A pro mode and Apple didn't get a night mode until the iPhone 11 series. So you know the galaxy has a win there.
So there are. There are elements of the note that make it a better camera than the 10s, Macs and I think these are really close in the camera, so I don't think either away you go, you're going to be upset. The dynamic range was also very impressive on the note 9, so you can see right here in this photo example on the Galaxy Note 9. This is my face, obviously, but you can see that it can pull in the clouds very well. So it's its very good at stuff like that.
You don't have any blur and stuff when it comes to things like that, you can see right here. Here's another photo just very good with the detail, so I think right now, you're still getting excellent cameras on either of them. So let me show you a couple photos from the 10s max. You can see very good with the detail. It has very good processing, so, on the whole I mean you're going to be happy with the 10s max as well.
Just very good performance. All-Around video, you know photo yeah. It's not going to beat the newer 11 Series anything like that, but it keeps up just fine. It has good telephoto performance if I only had to pick one when it comes to camera right now, I probably will go with the 10s max, just because I want the better video quality, and it's pretty competitive already in the camera, so which one did better in the phone call Department, which one should you buy in 2020 here I would go with the note. Furthermore, it was a better overall reception.
For me, it also had better actual phone call quality. The speaker sounded better in the earpiece sounded better as well. So when it comes to their battery performance, the Galaxy Note 9 again for the win here, it has better battery life 4,000 William hour. So this one's not even close to that. This is where the 11pro max really, you know just crushes the 10s max.
So the 10s max I was getting around 6 to 7 hours screen time, whereas I can push near 9 8 on the Galaxy Note 9, and so what is my conclusion, which is the better value? I, think the note 9 is still the better value when it comes to you're, going to pay, cheaper and I think you're getting a more well-rounded phone than the 10s max, so my opinion hasn't changed much they're, even after using these for a long time, I always felt like the iPhone 10s max was lacking something the battery life wasn't as good as the Aleksey note 9, the camera was pretty much on par. The build was yeah a little better, but it wasn't so much better that it just made this phone look like cheap or something like that. No way and the screen wasn't better. So it's just all-around. It was a good iPhone for sure.
A lot of people still love it, and I'm not trying to say it's a bad phone, it's a great iPhone, but it was so similar to the iPhone 10, but just bigger. Whereas the note 9 was a great refinement on the Galaxy Note 8, it's thought: headphone jack had iris scanner, fingerprint sensor beautiful large display, with no obtrude ins on that display, pretty darn good cameras on both front and rear, very large storage, very good battery life. So for me the note 9 is still the better phone, but if you're planning on keeping one of these a long time, you'll probably get a little more life in terms of software updates out of the iPhone 10s Mac's, so which one are you picking in 2020, which one of these are you going to buy, or are you already passed? These phones I make this video for those of you in the used market.
