iPhone XR vs iPhone XS vs XS Max vs iPhone X vs iPhone 8 Plus Battery Life DRAIN TEST By Brandon Butch

What's up guys, my name is Brandon, and today we're going to be putting the brand new iPhone 10 R up against the iPhone 10s max the iPhone 10 s, the iPhone 10 and the iPhone 8 plus in a battery drain test. All these devices have been released in 2017 and 2018 and all get great battery life. You can see the battery capacity for each on the screen right now and Apple is claiming that the new iPhone 10 R will get an hour and a half longer battery life than the iPhone 8 plus did so. Obviously that means that it should give better battery life than the iPhone, 10s and 10s max as well. But that's the point of this test. We're going to see just how much longer the iPhone 10 R lasts.

As you can see, all devices are currently plugged in at 100% battery life. We have the brightness set to about 50% on all of them, and we do have Wi-Fi turned on, but we do have cellular turned off, so we don't have a SIM card in any of them, except for the iPhone 10s max, but cellular data is turned off, and we are also running iOS 12 point 0.1 on all devices, and if we go off of this, you can see that all of them do have background app refresh off as well, and since you saw some of these devices, getting notifications, I'm going to make sure to turn off notifications for YouTube Facebook and some applications. That would send me notifications a lot throughout the day. That way, this test can be as accurate as possible. So there we go, so now all devices have these same settings.

All of them have notifications turned off for the main applications that would be getting notifications from again. They do all have these same settings toggled on background app refresh off. We have mail fetching off. We have all that good stuff off, so there's not really going to be any kind of advantage on one phone over another. So let's go ahead and get started with this test.

So the first thing we're going to do is go to YouTube, and we're going to watch a 4k video all the way through alright. So you can see right here. I have a two hour: 4k video set up, and I'm going to go ahead and unplug. All these devices and say are at 100% and then right once I click play on the first device. I am going to start on the stopwatch over here at the iPhone 7 plus as the stopwatch for this video.

So you can see just how long these batteries last all right. So we finished up here on the iPhone 10. First, if we go back and take a look at the battery percentage, you can see it's at 82% now we're waiting for the rest. To finish. It should be finishing here within the next few seconds.

Like I said, there is a difference in when these in because of the ads, and also when the video started. I did preload these, so a couple of them are a couple seconds ahead of the other, so it's looking likely 10r will finish next. Let's see it's a few seconds away here now. It is completely done here on the 10r. So it's like the battery percentage on that that is at 87%, and then it did also finish here on the 10s that ones at 86%.

And then it's looking like the iPhone 10s max will finish next and then the iPhone 8 plus will be the final one to finish watching this 4k video. Now, of course, all of these played in their highest resolution possible. Obviously they didn't play in 4k. They display it at the highest resolution possible I. Had the settings set to auto quality honestly finished on the 10s max there, that is at 85 percent and then over here on the iPhone 8 plus.

We did finish up here as well and on this one we are at 81%, so it's looking like the iPhone 8 plus is in last place right now, followed by the iPhone 10. Then the iPhone 10s max and the iPhone 10 arms they're. Pretty much just in order alright! So now we're going to shoot a video at 4k at 30 frames per second, it's the same setting on all these we're gonna record, a video for about 30 minutes and see what the battery percentage is, after that, so we're going to go to video on all of them, and then we're going to press start around the same time for all of them, and we're going to have this run for about 30 minutes, and then we'll be back to see which one is at the highest battery percentage, all right. So after shooting the 4k video on the rear facing camera. Now we're running an to tube benchmark test, and this should put quite a strain on the battery life of all these iPhones, so we're gonna check and see how they are.

After this, we're going to see you know which ones in the is which one has the lowest battery life after this an tutu benchmark test. You guys saw before this at the iPhone 10 are in the 10s max were tied and the iPhone 10 was actually in last place, even behind the iPhone 8 plus. So we're getting some pretty interesting results here, nothing too unexpected just yet, but we'll have to kind of wait and see how this test moves along. So we are just now finishing up the an tutu benchmark test. It's looking like the 10s max is going to finish first, even though it got started after all three of these phones.

So it's looking like that, and it's looking like the 8 plus may finish second followed by the 10 R, then the 10 and then finally, the 10s which did get a late start. Alright, so there we go. It did just finish up the an tutu benchmark test here on the 10s first, and we are at a 72 percent battery, then on the iPhone 8 plus here we're at 64 percent on the iPhone 10s or the iPhone 10 R it looked like it crashed. Maybe I wasn't looking at the screen. We were at 73 percent, then the 10 over here is at 62% and then the iPhone 10s, which is just now finishing up I, will check the percentage right now.

Actually so we are at 71 percent. So now the iPhone 10 R is in the lead. It was tied with the 10s max before this test, but now the 10 R is in the lead. It's also tied with the 10s, so the 10s in the 10s max are tied and then in the third place or in fourth place, is the eight plus and then the iPhone 10 and last place once again. So now, what we're going to do for the rest of the video is just watched a very long YouTube, video see which one can have the most on screen time.

So we're going to do this just like we did the very first YouTube video, we're gonna load up YouTube video here, and it's probably gonna, be like a five-hour video that way we can actually fully drain these batteries and see which one lasts longest. Alright, so we're going to load up this video right here. Relaxing forest and waterfall nature sounds it's an 8-hour video. So we're going to go ahead and load this up on. All these make sure we click the right one and all there we go and there we go.

So we have the same video loaded up on all them: let's go and put it in full screen, and we're going to see which last the longest here and keep in mind. This is going to be the last test for all these devices, so they are going to go until they get fully drained down to 0%. So there we go. You can see that the iPhone 8 plus was the first one to go down about 7 hours and 32 minutes into, and I believe the iPhone 10 will be up. Next, we can go.

Take a look at the battery here, it's at 1%, so this one's about to die as well. You can see it's getting very, very laggy. We have the iPhone 10s here at 19% and if we go over to the 10s max, we are at 19% there as well. If we take a look at the 10 R, we are at 15% at the 10 R. So it's looking like the 10s and the 10s Macs are actually outperforming the 10 R here, which is very surprising and Down Goes.

The iPhone 10 just a few minutes after the iPhone 8 plus here so now, we're down to the 10s, the 10s Macs and the 10 are so pretty much just as you guys expected going into this video. But it's fascinating to see just how much longer battery life you get just how much more screen time do you actually get with these newer devices, like you know, they're going to last longer, but how much longer that's the question that you guys should be wanting to get answered, and there goes the iPhone 10 are coming in at around 8 hours and 17 minutes. So a little under 50, more minutes of on-screen time there for the 10 are over the iPhone 10 and the iPhone 8, plus both the iPhone 10s and 10s Mac's ended up outlasting. The iPhone 10 are here. So, let's check the battery percentage on these.

The iPhone 10s is at 7% and 9% here on the 10s Mac, so very interesting results. Let's see where these two end up and the final tally here, and there goes the iPhone 10s at just about eight hours and 35 minutes, so I'm sure the iPhone 10s max will follow shortly after. But it's looking like the iPhone 10s max is the winner of this battery test and then finally, we have the 10s max finally going down at around 8 hours and 38 minutes. So there you have it guys. Those are the final results of the battery test.

Just to recap, the iPhone 8 plus here got 7 hours and 31 minutes. The iPhone 10 got 7 hours and 34 minutes. The iPhone 10s got 8 hours and 34 minutes the iPhone 10s max got 8 hours and 37 minutes, and the iPhone 10 R came in third place getting 8 hours and 17 minutes. So it was very surprising that the iPhone 10 R didn't even beat the iPhone 10 s in this test. Now it's not too surprising that it didn't beat the iPhone 10 s Mac, since it does have a bigger battery, even though I didn't expect it to get better battery than the 10 s max.

But just some fascinating results here that I did not expect fully so yeah.
