iPhone 12 vs Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: The affordable flagships!

Hey everybody, so this is the new iPhone 12. This is one of just four new iPhones that are reselling around the world personally, and I think a lot of other media agree. This is probably going to be the most popular model of the four new iPhones, because this is kind of like the middle one. It's not too small, like the mini. It's not too huge or too expensive, like the max. So the iPhone 12 starts at 799 us dollars.

That's 800 bucks! You know for an iPhone, that's considered really a perfect price, and this is definitely a flagship, because this phone runs on the a14 bionic, which is apple's top-tier chip, which means it's the most powerful silicon right now and for the first time in a non-pro iPhone, you have an OLED screen. So all you're really missing is that extra telephoto camera from the pro phones so for 800 bucks. This is gonna, be a perfect deal, but apple's long time, rifle Samsung also released a similarly good deal phone just recently. So this is the galaxy s20 Fe, so this phone starts at 700, so it's 100 bucks cheaper than iPhone, and you're still getting a Snapchat, an a65, an OLED panel, 120 hertz refresh rate and a triple camera system. So both of these are arguably the most affordable flagships of 2020.

So let's do a comparison. So first, let's go over the hardware. So let's mention this phone has a 120hz OLED panel. It's a 6.5-inch screen. Now the iPhone has a 6.1 inch, 60 hertz panel. So by default going by the spec sheet, you would think the s20 few ins huge in this area, but um, I would say this is a better panel, but only slightly that's because apple.

You know they've always been perfect at optimizing software because they built software and hardware at the same time. So they have a synergy that most other android brands do not have. So, even though this phone's refreshing at double the speeds. To be honest, when you're looking at it, you only see a slight edge for the galaxy s4 DFV. This is still a better panel, especially when you're factoring that it doesn't have a giant notch, but I'm just saying the gap.

It's not as wide as you think. This is still definitely one of the best panels around. If you can get over the fact that there's a giant notch now look at the camera system, so they're actually quite similar in terms of numbers for the iPhone 12. You have a pair of 12, megapixel sensors. You have a main camera, it's a main wide camera and an ultra-wide angle, camera with the galaxy s20 Fe.

Furthermore, you have a 12 megapixel main camera. A 12 megapixel ultra-wide angle photo so going by megapixels they're exactly the same, but this module also has an additional 8 megapixel telephoto zoom lens. So that means, if you're, comparing photos between these two phones, anytime, you're zooming more than 2x. This phone is going to win now, where apple regains, the lead is in silicon and construction, because this phone is crafted on glass on the back aluminum on the sides and on the front it's also a glass screen, but it's a glass ceramic screen, so meaning apple, has infused ceramic into the panel at a NATO level, and it's supposedly a lot stronger than typical glass smartphones. Now, obviously, I have not dropped this phone yet, so I can't vouch for it now apple's the most scrutinized company in the entire world, so whatever they do, people all around the world are looking to debunk it.

So there's no way they would lie about the fact that the screen has ceramic inside that's a little harder. We'll know in a couple of weeks when people do drop tests and stuff, but I would say pretty sure this screen is more durable than the screen and if you flip it to the back, it's not even close. This is a nice premium glass panel, whereas this is plastic. It definitely feels plastic. But I do like that.

The back of the s20 Fe curves a little so actually fits into my palm very comfortably, whereas the iPhone 12 kind of sharp corners, it's not the most comfortable phone to hold. In my opinion, now. Moving on to silicon, the iPhone 12 runs on apple's a14 bionic. This is a five nanometer chip, and it's the most powerful silicon in the mobile space right now, there's 20 fee. Meanwhile, once on a Snapchat 865 and it just it's still a very capable chipset, but a14 beats it in benchmarks in real world performance in just about every metric.

Now, when I say real world performance, I don't mean basic stuff by opening Instagram, because both of these are going to be plenty fast if you're just opening Instagram, but where the a14 really shows us power, it's in really complicated processing like neural processing of images and video and complicated data stuff like that. Now, as for the rest of the hardware, the galaxy s20 Fe has a 4 500 William battery. That's enough to last the phone almost an entire day, well, just about an entire day and there's six or eight gigs of ram. In here I can't give you these numbers on the iPhone 12, because Apple notoriously does not reveal battery size or how much ram you're getting so. We won't know that until somebody breaks open the phone- and I ain't going to do that- I can tell you that for the most part, the s20 Fe has better battery life.

Maybe it's because this is the first iPhone that supports 5g, and also I've been shooting a lot of videos, the iPhone 12 and the 12 pro that I've been using. They have not been able to last me all day so meaning I would leave my house around 10 a. m, or sometimes 10, 30 or 11. I would use my phone heavily and by like six or seven pm, it would already be down to like 20 when the battery bar goes red- and you know, as any phone geek would know, once that battery bar goes red, you're, not comfortable, so I would say battery life on the iPhone.12 is not up to par, but maybe it's because I'm a heavy user. I think for a more casual user.

It should be fine. As for the ram, I'm pretty sure the iPhone 12 is less than eight gigs of ram. I don't know how much is in here, I'm guessing six, but absolutely no issue. You know, for the most part, iPhones have outperformed android phones, because Apple is able to build its own chip, software and hardware all together. So there's just a lot of optimization that Samsung cannot achieve because Samsung uses chip made by Qualcomm.

So Samsung's engineers are in Seoul South Korea, whereas Qualcomm's engineers are in San Diego. So you see how there's like a gap right there, so they can't work as closely as in California, where everybody's working under that one spaceship looking thing in Cupertino. Now, that's not to say that s20 Fe doesn't perform well everything zips around perfectly fine, but there's just a level of synergy with the iPhones that you get that android does not offer. Now. As for the camera performance, I would say if you want versatility the galaxy s20 FP is a more versatile camera, because ultra-wide angle, camera goes a little wider, and you get a better zoom camera, and it's for still photos.

They're pretty comparable both of these phones excel in dynamic range, but you're shooting videos, iPhone 12 wins, because this is the first one in the world to shoot in Dolby Vision, so adobe vision, it's like a professional grade of dynamic range that Hollywood studios uses. So what the iPhone 12 Pro can do is when you shoot a video you're shooting in Dolby Vision. So that means it is dynamically picking up the dynamic range in real time and adjusting on the fly and where the extra dynamic range comes in is when you switch from really brightly lit places and you step into shadows. So the galaxy s20 Fe is already perfect at this, but I can see for the most part, the iPhone 12 exposes a little better. Like I see the texture of the floors a little better right now compared to that chunky.

Fe both are handling the sun exposure pretty nicely, but I can see the clouds a little better on the iPhone 12. , and here you see the shadowed area next to standard charter bank is a little darker on this chunky FB, and it's really dark. In fact, whereas iPhone 12 still exposes it pretty nicely, the iPhone 12's video will just um fixes its lighting a lot better than any android phone can do right now and for the most part I like that iPhone's video, I just have an extra level of fluidity, and I'm not just talking about stabilization, but even when you're zooming in and out, look at how seamless it is to go from ultra-wide angle, camera to 3x ultra-wide angle, camera 3x. This is a level of fluidity that no other android brands have been able to achieve. You see every time I switch the ultra-wide angle, camera there's a little of a pause.

It's just not as fluid enough talking I'll just show you photo and video samples right now you can be the judge, but for the most part I say the iPhone 12 is a little better than the Gaussian DFE. If you're shooting videos and just main photos, don't sweat the technique so as for which phone is better. It's really tough to say, I think the iPhone 12 Pro has a better video camera. It has a more premium build, but the galaxy s20 FP has a better screen and, just generally speaking, I prefer android over iOS. So if I do have to pick one as my daily driver, I will probably pick the galaxy s20 Fe, but this would differ depending on who you are like.

I said apple's echo system is quite a bit more developed than uh Samsung's echo system. So if you're using AirPods and using a MacBook- and you have Apple TV at home, the benefit of having an iPhone is just so amazing, like you can send photos and videos to your mapping via airdrop, and it transfers right away. There's nothing like that on Samsung yet and, like I said you can control Apple TV with your phone as a remote control, it's just so easy to use if you're within the whole ecosystem and ultimately, if you're, already an existing iPhone user, it doesn't really matter what Samsung does like that's the benefit of Apple iPhone's, um, ecosystem kind of locks, people in like if your whole family uses iMessage, then you're going to stick with an iPhone, no matter. What so the way to look at it is. Should you upgrade to the iPhone 12? If you already have the iPhone 11, that's a tough one, I would say, if you're a casual user, no, because the difference between the 12 and 11 for a casual user is minimal.

But if you are someone who takes photography a little more seriously, the improved main camera and the fact that you can shoot ultra-wide angle, camera with night mode on it's a big deal, but you'll see a big improvement in photos over the iPhone 11 and the fact that you now have an OLED panel on the iPhone 12 was the standard iPhone 11. Last year was an LCD panel. If you're using an older iPhone like iPhone 10, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, then this is definitely worth an upgrade if, if you can afford it and objectively 799 for a brand new iPhone running the most powerful soc on the market, right now is a pretty good deal, but then again so is 700 for the galaxy s20 Fe. Now I personally think this blue color is a little boring, but the Fe also comes in a bunch of different colors too, so you can find something that looks a little better than this. I think, but ultimately, plastic is plastic.

This phone does not feel as premium as the galaxy s20 ultra or the note 20 ultra. So anyway, that's about it. For this video, I have a lot more content. Coming up, I'm going to be testing the iPhone 12 against many other phones, including the Huawei Mate 40 pro, which I'll be getting very, very soon, and the OnePlus 18 a bunch of other phones.
