iPhone 12 Pro Max vs OnePlus 8 Pro Speed Test- This is Surprising. (2021)

What is up everyone. My name is RJ, and today it's going to be a fun one. So here with me today, I have arguably the best android performer of 2020, the OnePlus 8 pro and the newest kit on the block the iPhone 12 Pro max. So we are going to be running a speed test with these two 2020 flagships, and it's definitely going to be interesting. So you're, probably scratching your head wondering why even conduct the speed test, because the Qualcomm chipset that competes with the a14 bionic is actually the snapdragon 888, but since the OnePlus 9 pro isn't currently available at the time of this, recording, of course, we're just going to run with the OnePlus 8 pro and put it up against the iPhone 12 Pro max. Your opinion on oxygen, OS 11 may differ from mine.

Some people just don't like it, because it resembles Samsung's one UI, but I still feel like, despite all of that oxygen, OS is still one of the best optimized launchers in the world. So I want to find out if the OnePlus 8 pro can even keep up with the iPhone 12 Pro max. Just quickly before we do continue, if this is your first time here on this channel, I would really appreciate it if you guys, could leave a comment down below and subscribe to the channel, because I will be picking up the OnePlus 9 pro for review purposes, and that should be a good video, so make sure you are subscribed, turn on the notifications and if you want to leave a like on this video, just a quick refresher for you guys on the specs, the OnePlus 8 pro is equipped with 2020s flagship, Qualcomm processor, the snapdragon 865 plus. This is the 12 gigabyte variant of the pro. So this speed test should be rather interesting, to say the least.

Meanwhile, of course, the iPhone 12 Pro max is housing, six gigabytes of ram and the all-powerful a14 bionic. So you guys can tell right off the bat spec wise, the OnePlus 8 pro is an absolute animal. But of course we all know exactly how powerful the a14 bionic is just for your reference. My OnePlus 8 pro is running oxygen. Os 11 and my iPhone 12 Pro max is running iOS 14.4. So without further ado, let's commence the speed test, all right so right now I have both of these devices powered down, and we're just gonna.

Do a quick boot up test to see which one comes out on top generally speaking, android flagships always come out on top when compared to iOS flagships. But let's see one two three go so powerful and power that, on at the exact same time- and it looks like OnePlus- is in the lead by a slight bit. If the animation is coming up yep, the animation is coming up. It's turning blinking yep. There we go.

We are now officially in that, as you guys saw um. The OnePlus 8 pro did come out on top by about a second, so a second difference in the boot up test. Now in terms of biometrics, the OnePlus 8 pro uses an optical fingerprint scanner, and it is one of the more reliable fingerprint scanners that I've tested in 2020. Like the note, 20 ultra uses an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, but man I just found that fingerprint scanner to be so unreliable that I had to actually switch over to facial recognition for unlocking my note, 20 ultra. Of course, we all know that the iPhone 12 Pro max uses face ID, and it's housed right here within this knot, which I personally think is a major inconvenience in a pandemic environment.

So give me touch ID any day of the week over face ID. But here is a quick biometrics test for you guys to see which one is faster. So I'm just going to get ready right now, one two three so yeah. They are pretty fast like in the sense that they both unlock. At the same time, I feel like the pro has a slight advantage, because it is a touch I'd fingerprint scanner, but yeah, not a major inconvenience, but I do prefer a fingerprint scanner over face ID simply because face ID takes a while to unlock, because you do have to bring your phone all the way up to your face.

Both of these devices are connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network, all right, so we're just going to go ahead and clear out all the background, apps that are running in the background, so clear, all and, of course, with an iPhone. You have to swipe up on every single app, okay. So after clearing out all the background apps on both of these devices. So clearly we have nothing here running in the background, and we have nothing here running in the background. Let's start off the speed test by opening up some stock apps now, generally speaking, stock apps are supposed to be more well optimized for each individual UI.

Let's start off with settings one two, three so right there, the iPhone 12 Pro max was a bit faster. Let's keep all this in the background. Okay, close that now, let's go over to the camera app, let's open up the stock camera app one, two, three: okay, so the iPhone 12 Pro max came out on top again, and you know this is to be expected simply because the a14 bionic is such a beast, but the OnePlus 8 pro isn't too far behind uh work with some more stock apps. So, let's open up the clock app. Where is the clock? App? Okay, one two three go: okay, so right there, the OnePlus, 8 pro was faster by a tiny bit.

Now, let's open up messages, one two three go: it looks like there was a tie. Let's tie the messages, lets uh work, our way to a few more stock apps, and then we will commence with some social media apps. Let's open up the calculator one of my favorite apps of all time. There's the calculator back right here, one two three go: I'm going to give a slight advantage there to the iPhone 12 Pro max. It was like a millisecond faster.

I believe now I am seeing this in real time, so you guys may be able to differentiate a lot better than myself. So let me know down in the comments below if I was off on some of these. Let's conclude the stock app speed test by opening up the app store and the play store. So one two three go: okay, once again, the iPhone 12 Pro max did come out. On top, I feel like the OnePlus 8 pro was off by at least two milliseconds.

Now, let's move on to some non-stock apps, like social media apps. So let's open up Instagram first, if you guys aren't following me over on Instagram, please do follow me. It's RJ tech, alright! So here it goes Instagram one two three go so yeah. Once again, the iPhone 12 Pro max was faster by once again a few milliseconds, so the a14 bionic is putting in some major work. Let's try telegram um one.

Two three go yep. Once again, it was the iPhone 12 Pro max all right. Now, let's try um YouTube our favorite app of all time. One two three go: okay: YouTube was faster on the OnePlus 8 pro, which is fairly surprising. Let's try twitter make sure you guys follow me over on Twitter at RJ tech.

I will link it in the description below one. Two. Three go okay, so Twitter was faster once again on the OnePlus a pro. So it looks like social media apps are either tied or a little faster on the OnePlus 8 pro, which is really impressive. Let's try opening up Reddit one two three go.

Reddit was faster again on the OnePlus 8 pro, so this is getting very interesting. Now, let's try opening up some non-social media apps. So let's go ahead and open up Amazon. One two three go okay, so once again, Amazon was faster on the OnePlus 8 pro, so it looks like the OnePlus 8 pro is now winning the speed test when it comes to apps that are not stock apps, it looks like stock apps are, are better well optimized on the iPhone 12 Pro max, but everything else seems to be fair game. Let's try opening up Google Maps so Google Maps one two three go.

That was very hard for me to tell I feel like it was a tie I feel like it was a tie, but the OnePlus 8 pro could have been slightly slower. Let's try opening up the Starbucks app I'm on this app way too much one two three yep, so it was faster on the OnePlus 8 pro. Let's try putting on McDonald's one two three go looks like McDonald's is gonna, be faster on the OnePlus a pro once again, so the OnePlus 8 pro is seemingly the faster phone uh one more time. Let's open up Uber Eats one. Two three goes: okay, once again it was.

It was the OnePlus 8 pro, let's move on to some more demanding apps like gaming apps. So let's try opening up asphalt, 9 1 2 3 go, so it looks like the iPhone 12 Pro max is opening up faster, okay, not sure, what's happening exactly both seem to be lagging, not sure why? Okay, so the OnePlus 8 pro was faster in opening up asphalt, 9. This is insane guys. This is just insane what the heck continuing on with the gaming theme. Let's open up Call of Duty mobile one: two three go all right, so it looks like the iPhone has these slightly, but, as we've seen cons in our mind, yep the iPhone 12 Pro max is going to take it.

I think, let's slide it yeah, I'm going to give it to the iPhone 12 Pro max, like we're already in the game, even though it did ask me to choose an account. I feel like the 12 pro max was way in the lead. Now, when it comes to gaming, I'm going to give the advantage over to the 12 pro max, simply because of the 120 hertz refresh rate. It just feels a lot smoother if you guys have never gamed using 120 hertz before it is literally just game changing and surprisingly, when it came to the speed test, the iPhone 12 Pro max was actually behind on loading up asphalt, 9, but that could just be an optimization issue. I mean like just natural scrolling like scrolling through your device.

It just feels a lot smoother on the OnePlus, a pro in comparison when you aren't using a phone with 120 hertz you can't tell, but when you are doing it side by side, it just feels a lot faster, all right. So now, let's try opening up some websites, and then we'll move on to a ram management test and conclude this video. Okay, let's start putting out one of my favorite websites of all time, raptors. reallygm. com one two: three: let's go so yeah: it opened up faster on the iPhone 12 Pro max all right.

Let's try opening up one more website. It's rubbing up, espn. com one two three go: yeah ESPN was miles faster on the 12 pro max; okay, let's finish it off with one more website: let's open up your queue. ca, that is the university that I go to so go yeah. That was also faster on the iPhone 12 Pro max, but that could also have to do with me using safari versus Google Chrome.

Of course, let's do a quick ram management test. Let's go back and see if all these games and stuff open in the background. So, lets starting up asphalt, 9. See asphalt.9 had to restart on both of these devices, which was pretty interesting. Uh Uber eats where's your dates, one two three yep Uber Eats is running perfect in the background.

As expected, all these things are expected. These phones are just terrific at rand management, starting up Google Maps, Google Maps did not restart. In the background. That's perfectly fine. Let's do one more.

Let's do um, let's do McDonald's, oh McDonald's did have to restart on the OnePlus 8 pro, whereas on the iPhone it did not, so ram management seems to be a tad bit better on the iPhone 12 Pro max so yeah the ram management seems to be perfectly fine on both these devices seems like the 12 pro max is a little better at ram management, but that could just be due to the perfect optimization of iOS but yeah. That was a very interesting speed test. The pro did beat out the 12 pro max on some apps and on some apps it was slightly behind. So it was a pretty interesting speed test to say the least. Technically speaking, this comparison wasn't fair simply because the snapdragon 888 is the official competitor to the a14 bionic.

So once I do get my OnePlus 9 pro, I will be definitely conducting a speed test again because, quite honestly, I do find this to be fun, even though it might not be scientific, it is fun. Nonetheless, I will leave you guys with my OnePlus 8 pro versus the note 20 ultra speed test that one is actually very interesting as well as always. Thank you so much for watching. Don't forget to leave a like on this video and, of course, subscribe to the channel. If you want to.
