Google Pixel 4a Review | 1 Month Later

What's up guys, my name is Irina and welcome back to my channel, where I review everything tag. So it's been about a month since I started using the Google Pixel 4a as my daily driver, and I have a lot to say about this phone and let me start from the beginning. If you have watched my unboxing video, you already know that I've had quite positive impressions about the design of this phone. It's compact and lightweight, since it has a polycarbonate body. I, like the camera module on the back. It looks like a miniature version of the one on the pixel 4, and my favorite thing about the design of this phone is that it has pretty small bezels, which is such a relief.

After pretty sizable bezels of the pixel 4. And speaking of the display, we have a 5.8 inch OLED panel on this phone when it comes to brightness. The display on the Pixel 4a seems pretty much the same as my Pixel 4 XL, and despite the fact that there are much brighter displays on the market at the moment, I have to admit, I feel pretty comfortable with the brightness of this phone indoors. I rarely have to keep the brightness to the max on my Pixel 4a, but when it comes to using this phone outdoors, I have to admit I wish the display on this phone was brighter. Let's not forget that the Pixel 4a is considered to be a budget model, so there are some display features that are missing on the Pixel 4a and the first one is the ambient EQ feature.

When I use my pixel for Excel, I always prefer to keep this feature on. I like the way, the colors on the display, look when it's enabled, but when it comes to the display of the Pixel 4a, I cannot say that the lack of this feature is a dealbreaker for me because having used this phone for about a month now, I've honestly never felt the need to have this feature since the overall viewing experience on the Pixel 4a has been pretty good. So far. Another display feature there is lacking on the pixel.4A is the smooth display feature, which means the display on the Pixel 4a does not support 90hz refresh rate. I like the pixel, 4 and pixel 4xl that have this feature, so we have just a 60hz display on the Pixel 4a when it comes to how sharp this display is.

You'll definitely have no problems with that, since the display on the Pixel 4a is really sharp, and I would say it looks as sharp as the display on my Pixel 4 XL. Now. Let's talk about biometrics and security features on the Pixel 4a, and we only have the fingerprint sensor on this phone and there is no face unlock when it comes to how reliable the fingerprint sensor is. I don't have any complaints here, it's fast, and it works 10 times out of 10, but for some reason the fingerprint sensor on this phone was the only thing that took me some time to get used to, because when I take this phone in my hand, my finger naturally lies above the fingerprint center, and I wish it was located a bit higher. But of course I realized they could not place it higher since aesthetically.

It just wouldn't look as good, so the first three days with this phone were the most awkward since I didn't have a case, and I could never reach the fingerprint sensor without turning the phone over and looking for it, which was ridiculous, and when I got the case, it got much better since you can feel this circle that guides you to the fingerprint sensor by the way. Speaking of my case, it was really cheap. I got it just for eight dollars and surprisingly this case turned out to be pretty good. I like its minimalistic design, the fit and the quality is good. Also, the case is matte black, just like the phone, so they're matchy highly recommended guys if you're looking for something not expensive.

Next, let's talk about the battery of this phone. We have a 3140 million power battery on the Pixel 4a. In my unboxing video, I did a charging test, and it took about one hour to get to 83 of charge on this phone, and it took 30 minutes more to fully charge it. You get an 18 watt adapter in the box with this phone, but keep in mind guys that the Pixel 4a does not support wireless charging. When it comes to the battery life of this phone, surprisingly, it turned out to be perfect.

I've never felt like the battery life was the shortcoming of this phone. I'd actually say that it's quite on the contrary, even on the days when I went out to make my camera comparisons taking tons of photos and videos during the whole day, I still had a hefty percentage of battery life left by the end of the day and speaking of photos and videos. Let's talk about the camera of this phone. We have a single 12.2, megapixel camera, with the aperture of 1.7, on the Pixel 4a check out my comprehensive camera comparison, video featuring the Pixel 4a and the iPhone SE I'll put the link in the description, but in this review I want to talk about the camera features you get on the pixel, 4a and right away. I'll tell you guys that you get all the essential camera features on this budget model, just like you would with much more expensive, pixel, 4 or Pixel 4 XL.

The only mode that is missing on the Pixel 4a is the playground. But honestly I've only tried this feature once or twice on my pixel for Excel and I think it's kind of useless. However, the main limitation of the Pixel 4a is the lack of the telephoto camera, which would let us take higher quality, zoomed photos and if you've ever used a pixel phone. You already know that it does an amazing job when it comes to zoomed photos even with a single camera. But I was curious enough to go out and take some photos to show you guys.

So, let's take a look at these zoomed photos. I've taken with a pixel, 4a and pixel 4xl and, as you can see, the photos taken with the tile for the camera of the pixel 4xl, look even more detailed and less pixelated when compared to the pixel, 4a and speaking of zoomed photos. You get up to eight times zoom on the pixel for Excel and the Pixel 4a will let you zoom up to seven times. When it comes to videos, you can shoot videos in 4k at 30 frames per second on the Pixel 4a, just like on the pixel 4. And let's switch to the front-facing camera of the Pixel 4a, and we have a 7 megapixel camera with an aperture of 2.0. It's not as wide as you would have on the pixel 4, but you still get a pretty wide angle with a selfie camera, much wider than say on the iPhone SE, and when it comes to videos on the front camera, you can shoot videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second no 4k video option here, but you wouldn't be able to shoot 4k videos on the front camera of the pixel 4 either.

Now, let's talk about the audio, we have a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack on the Pixel 4a, which is such a rare thing. These days, I personally haven't used wired earbuds with my phone for quite a long time. However, I still use them with my laptop, and I know there are a lot of you guys out there who prefer using wired headphones and I think the more options we have the better. We have stereo speakers on this phone, the in-display speaker right here and another one at the bottom on the right side and as it often happens, this is not a speaker on the left. The speakers on my pixel 4xl are definitely louder than the ones on the Pixel 4a and also the overall sound quality seems slightly better to me on my Pixel 4 XL.

However, these are still pretty decent speakers on the Pixel 4a, and I haven't had any problems with them and speaking of some of my favorite audio features, I'm really happy to see the now playing feature on the Pixel 4a. It shows on the lock screen the names of the songs that play around you, and you can also see all the songs you've heard in the now playing history. Speaking of the internals, we get six gigabytes of ram and 128 gigabytes of non-expandable storage on this phone, which I think is pretty good for a budget phone and when it comes to how fast this phone is. I cannot say this is the fastest phone I've ever used, but it's still pretty good for a daily driver. It's quite zippy Instagram YouTube, tick-tock! You won't have any problems with those apps.

Everything just feels really fast and when it comes to gaming on this phone, some games like subway surf, will feel really smooth no problems at all. But when it comes to more demanding games such as the asphalt you might experience, some hardly noticeable freezes, but they're pretty subtle. So it won't ruin your gaming experience. Speaking of the limitations of this phone, we don't have an official IP rating for water and dust resistance on the Pixel 4a, which I think is quite understandable, but other than that there is a lot to love about the Pixel 4a. I think this phone is a really great option.

If you're on the market, looking for something not too expensive with the Pixel 4a, you get a lot of phones for a relatively small amount of money. So in my view the Pixel 4a is clearly one of the most attractive budget phones on the market. Today, let me know what you guys think about the Pixel 4a. Thank you so much for watching this video and see you in the next one. You.
