If we had to narrow down the best and most complete android experience that we received in 2020. I doubt that you can argue that it's the Galaxy Note 20 ultra Samsung, might have fumbled with the first ultra, but this second time was definitely the charm that was needed to honor the name. The impact was so substantial that I think that apple noticed it's been a while, since apple differentiated, the larger iPhone from the rest with new tricks and just like Samsung did with the ultra. The challenge is all about the camera. The thing is you, and I know that the camera is only one of the many reasons why anyone would be willing to spend so much on a smartphone. So the question left is which one warrants the investment I'm a river with pocket now, and this is iPhone 12 Pro max versus Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra sponsored by subcase, stick around to learn how you can win an iPhone 12 Pro max in an iPhone 12 mini of your own.
We have two of the largest smartphone makers in the world: a price difference. That's around two Benjamin, two of the most complete ecosystems and yet the broadest set of differences you'll find on two devices. If you think that this is only a feud between iOS and android you're missing the bigger picture. So, let's begin with the hardware, this is probably the toughest department in which to call a winner, given the differences in similarities. Both have a metallic frame with a shiny finish, but the materials are different.
Apple's stainless steel is technically stronger than Samsung's aluminum, but it's not like if either has failed a durability test both have a frosted back that will deter fingerprints depending on the color. You pick and both claim to have the strongest glass at the front, with either ceramic shield or gorilla glass ficus, which I'm going to call the same technology, because they're both made by corning the galaxy is visually larger than the max, but looks can be deceiving. It is four millimeters taller and almost a millimeter thicker, but then the max is a hair wider and the crazy 20 grams heavier. Now, where the scale tips significantly towards Samsung is when you measure the displays- and it's mainly because even if both devices are rocking OLED panels made by Samsung apple for some reason is not driving this display to its full potential. The galaxy has a slightly taller panel with more pixel density and better screen to body ratio.
They both have amazing color reproduction contrast ratio and detail, but only the note is capable of 120 hertz refresh rate if you're, okay, with an unnoticeable penalty in resolution apple swings back with the flat display we all wish Samsung would adopt, but then fall short with a notch that Samsung dealt with differently and sure Samsung's ultrasonic, fingerprint scanner is not the fastest, but I'll. Take it any day over being forced to use face ID in this pandemic. By contrast, the iPhone 12 doesn't both have dual firing. Speakers that I find comparable, if only the efficiencies would extend to the intel, but really where Samsung just obliterates apple in this display is because of its Wacom digitizer, see Samsung, didn't just invent the phablet category years ago to give us a larger phone back then, just like today. This larger canvas has a purpose pop out.
The s pen and this phone becomes a digital notepad write your notes and match them with voice recordings, highlight work on the Microsoft Office. Suite use it as a mouse. If you want more precision and the usage scenarios are just endless and best of all, you can simply tuck away the s pen and use this as a regular phone, while the 12 pro max is just a phone, that's large. For the sake of being large. There are some differences internally, but just keep in mind that iPhones have been famous for years, for being able to perform with very little apple is definitely on top with a more advanced 5 nanometers a14 bionic versus the 7 nanometer Qualcomm snapdragon, 865 plus Samsung wins the ram department and battery size because you know android and then both have the same starting storage.
But then Samsung offers options for expandability. They both offer all flavors of 5g, the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, reverse wireless charging and even the same IP rating. Now as consumers. What you care about is, if you can tell a difference, and I'll tell you right now. You won't both of these are endurance champs in my book you'll easily get through a day of hard work with the galaxy, while the iPhone can go even a bit longer with a smaller power pack both handle the best data speeds.
Your carrier can offer remain connected in the hardest of places and provide a comparable experience in phone calls. Really, the only problem with large phones and day-to-day use is their handling. Samsung's. Camera hump is the worst on flat surfaces, and we've already proven that, even if this glass is harder to break on both, it still can be scratched. Both the imbalance and the protection can be solved with a good case and for that channel sponsor subcase has you covered if you want to retain design aesthetics, but include 15 foot certified drop resistance by met labs.
My new favorite is the up style clear. It looks minimalistic, but it's actually a scratch resistant, CPU bumper, with raised bezels to avoid any scratches and best of all, it's just 12.99 on Amazon for some added functionality, we've got the up vault made of a shock, absorbent CPU material with a carbon fiber texture and a wrap around bumper. That offers ultimate drop protection along with a built-in credit card holder, simply search iPhone, 12 case or Galaxy Note, 20 ultra case by subcase on Amazon to find all their options. We have partnered with subcase to give away an iPhone 12 Pro max and an iPhone 12 mini so follow the first link in the description enter promo code pocket now max that'll enhance your chances to win. Now.
Once you dig into their user interfaces, you will notice that certain design choices actually do impact, how the features are experienced. For example, Samsung might have the 120hz on the display, but the extra animations on one UI make it hard to notice for the average consumer and the iPhone may still be stuck at 60hz with this display, but iOS 14 was designed to feel snappy all around. That said, the software battle is kinda complicated. I feel Samsung wins in the fact that it makes use of the larger canvas better. You can do split window multitasking, you have the edge menus to call on shortcuts and then features like secure, folder, really dig deep into helping.
You have an extended layer of productivity on this phone now. Android applications are still a mixed bag when it comes to having applications, adopt Samsung's, one-handed, UI aesthetics, but at least the side gestures help in moving back and forth with such a behemoth. In your hand, the problem is that most of these benefits come at the expense of software updates. By contrast, iOS 14 is still supported by an iPhone that was launched 5 years ago. We also finally get a smarter use of the launcher with widgets, and I feel Apple's app library does a better job than the regular app tray we get on android.
The problem is all the waste of space and a user interface that really needs to wake up and smell the coffee. This phone is not designed to fit in one hand. The last battle left is to define which phone has a better camera, and even here the approach could not be more different for Samsung, going ultra is about providing the most extreme set of cameras in the industry, while apple offers a set of cameras, that's comparable to the galaxy s20 plus. If you do the math, its new claim to fame is better software and an in-body stabilization feature that only professional cameras include, though, obviously the winner is defined by the results and not the spec sheet. The odd part is that I thought that I was going to drift more to the galaxy, but I just can't, it is a matter of taste, though.
As those of you looking for more dramatic results, you will be better served by the ultra. The iPhone is warmer brighter in the shadows and even if Apple doesn't disclose the size of its sensor, it pulls just as much depth of field as the galaxy in close-ups. I also prefer the ultra-wide on the iPhone as it offers less distortion on the borders and as long as you stick to the primary or the 2.5 times, optical zoom you'll be fine. The galaxy is just mind-boggling, with its periscope zoom lens, pushing 5x, and even if you go up to 10x hybrid, if zoom matters to you, the ultra should be your phone, but I'm the type that feels that 5x is just too much in low light. I will flunk both devices on the ultra-wide, and I'll also do the same on the telephoto, because both devices disable the lens and deliver a very bad digital crop.
Really only the primaries are what I would call comparable and then in portraits you again have to pick your poison. I feel that Samsung is just too dramatic, and it forgets that we humans have ears and then apple. On the other hand, nails depth, crazy, well and deep fusion owns skin tones. Its problem is trying to handle two or more subjects where the iPhone wins is video, and this is all gimmicks aside sure the galaxy can do 8k, which I still find poorly implemented, and the iPhone can do Dolby Vision, video, which 95 of you will want to disable on day one for me, it's the fact that I can trust an iPhone as my b camera, at least during the day. I feel apple's codec does a better job at handling dynamic range and detail, though the galaxy is no slouch at being a close second, but then apple's ibis makes the footage look like if I'm vlogging on a gimbals, while the galaxy comes close so long as you have enough light to not ruin the footage with the warping that plagues as and then selfie video is a pretty tight comparison where, if it wasn't for the rolling shutter on the galaxy I'd, call it a close tie.
To conclude, let's be honest, this was a very difficult battle on one hand we have the best and most advanced iPhone that apple has ever made, but then on the other, we have the most beloved Samsung Galaxy. That's actually not the best smartphone. That Samsung makes the company has come a long way in maturing features like the s pen, providing us with foldable that are actually useful and extending their software in ways that help consumers do more. It still is not the king of ecosystems, but at this pace, that's only a matter of time. I love the iPhone 12 Pro max.
It's the first time that I actually choose the larger iPhone, mainly because of its added capabilities. The camera is definitely an example where I didn't think that the iPhone would do this well. The problem is that in many other ways it continues to just be a blown up iPhone, which is rather unfortunate on such a large and beautiful canvas. If I had to pick only one, I would choose the Samsung Galaxy note: 20 ultra, surely the iPhone one, video and also stills photography in certain scenarios, but that doesn't mean that the camera on the Galaxy Note 20 ultra, was a slouch, and then we go back to how I started this video. The camera is just part of the story.
The ultra is a tad more expensive than the max sure, but I do feel that Samsung is giving you more for your money.
