iPhone 12 Mini UNBOXING + Size Comparison By SuperSaf

- What's up, guys? Saf here on SuperSaf TV. And we've got it, the iPhone 12 mini in the house; one of the first unboxings in the world, SuperSaf style. Thumbs up for that will be appreciated. And we've also got the iPhone 12 Pro Max in the house. I'll be unboxing this separately, so if you want to see that video, that will be linked in the cards and the description when it is available. If you're interested in the iPhone 12 and the 12 Pro, I've already unboxed those and covered those in previous videos, which again, will be linked in the cards and the description.

We'll unbox this. We'll do a bit of a comparison for size with all of the other iPhones. And we'll also do a bit of a size comparison with the iPhone SE. With that all out of the way, let's get to this unboxing. Now, firstly, the box is super, super small.

This is probably the smallest box of any smartphone I've ever had, and it's actually even smaller than the iPhone 12 and the 12 Pro. Let's bring those in for a comparison. So here we've got all of the new iPhone 12 boxes side-by-side. And the 12 and the 12 Pro, the same size, the 12 Pro Max is actually bigger, and the 12 mini is the smallest out of the bunch, although they all have the same thickness. Pretty straightforward in terms of the packaging.

We've got a picture here of the iPhone 12 mini at the front with some info at the back and the iPhone logos on the sides. Now let's remove the plastic. (plastic crackles) Aw, it's so small. - That's what she said. (laughs) - Anyway, let's have a look at what else we get inside the box.

So there is a USB Type-C to Lightning cable. There's a little pack here designed by Apple in California, and inside here, we get a Quick Start guide, there is a SIM card tool as well as a single Apple sticker. Now, unless you've not been on the internet for the past couple of months, you will know that Apple is no longer including a power brick or EarPods inside the box of their new iPhones. And this also includes older iPhones now. So if you do buy one of the older iPhones from Apple themselves, then it's not going to come with a power brick or any EarPods.

Now we've been through the reasons behind this a few times, but essentially, Apple say that by not including these they are saving on carbon emissions quite significantly. And there does seem to be a mixed opinion on this. Some people are like, "It's absolutely fine. I already have lots of Lightning accessories at home. " And then the other half people saying, "No, we should actually have these, especially considering that now we have the new cable.

" So this is a Lightning to USB Type-C. Previous Apple cables were Lightning to USB Type-A and the charger you had previously was a 5-watt charger. Now we do have up to 20-watt charging supported that you will have to buy separately. But, hey, it is what it is. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below of Apple not including the charger and the EarPods.

Right, now let's get to the iPhone 12 mini hands on. And this thing is super, super small. This is the smallest and lightest 5G device in the world. We'll remove the screen protector, which is a paper screen protector. And the actual design is exactly the same as the iPhone 12, which we have here.

And as with the iPhone 12, this is available in five colors. I've got the black here, but it's also available in this blue, a green, a white as well as a Product RED. We've also got the flat edges with an aluminum frame. I do quite like the flat edges and the black aluminum frame, in my opinion, it looks really, really good. The same IP68 water and dust resistance, so you can put this into water up to six meters, which is quite a higher rating compared to other smartphones out there.

The back is a glossy glass, and then at the front, we have Ceramic Shield. Now Apple don't even call this glass because it's supposed to be the toughest display on any smartphone out right now, with four times improved drop performance. Now I'm not somebody who does drop tests, but PhoneBuff has done a detailed drop test of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, and from those drops, this did look very, very promising. And although Ceramic Shield has four times improved drop performance, it's actually not any more scratch resistant. So if you do want to protect the display of your new iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro, or 12 Pro Max, I'd definitely recommend picking up a tempered glass screen protector from our channel sponsor dbrand.

Now let's take a closer look at this display.

So apart from the size difference, it's pretty much the same as the iPhone 12. Super Retina XDR with OLED technology. We've got a uniform bezel or round with a notch.2 million to 1 contrast ratio with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits when viewing HDR content. And this is packaged in a much smaller 5.4 inch display versus the 6.1 inch display that we have on the iPhone 12. So you're still getting a very good display, even though it's smaller.

And in fact, you actually get a slightly higher pixel density because of its smaller size. This is a 1080 display. And if we bring in the iPhone SE 2020, you'll see that we've got a big, big difference. And although the iPhone SE has a smaller 4.7 inch display, it's actually bigger compared to the iPhone 12 mini. Now this is of course because of those much smaller bezels.

The iPhone SE looks pretty much identical to the iPhone 8 with those top and bottom bezels. Whereas on the iPhone at 12 mini, you do have those smaller, uniform bezels with that notch. I mean, it is pretty surprising how small this actually is. If we compare it to the iPhone 12, especially the iPhone 12 Pro Max, this is absolutely tiny. Now let's take a closer look around the iPhone 12 mini.

So within this notch, we do have sensors for Face ID, so Face ID is supported. There is a 12-megapixel front-facing camera, which is exactly the same as what we've got on the iPhone 12. There is an earpiece which doubles up as one of the two stereo speakers; the other one is here at the bottom. As well as that, at the bottom, we do have a Lightning port. On the right-hand side, we have the power button.

Nothing at the top. On the left-hand side, we have the volume buttons. There is the mute switch as well as a SIM card tray, so you have space for one SIM card in here, although you can have dual SIM cards with an eSIM. Now moving over onto the back, we do have the dual camera setup. So we have two 12-megapixel cameras.

There is a primary with an F1.6 aperture, as well as a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with an F2.4 aperture and a 120-degree angle of view. Good news is that these are once again, exactly the same as what we've got in the iPhone 12. And in my experience of using the iPhone 12 for the past few weeks, it's got some of the best cameras out there. Great quality images and video. We do have 4K up to 60 frames a second across all cameras and support for 4K HDR with Dolby Vision up to 30 frames a second across all the cameras as well.

Now this year, we also have some improvements for the cameras compared to last year. So now we do have night mode supported across all the cameras. Last year, it was just on the primary camera of the iPhone 11. And we have Deep Fusion with Smart HDR across all of the cameras as well. Now this is all thanks to the A14 Bionic chip, which is powering the iPhone 12 mini, the world's first 5-nanometer chipset, and it's very, very powerful.

It's great that we don't have the compromise when it comes to cameras and performance on the iPhone 12 mini. And of course, we also have support for 5G. Now, 5G is going to vary depending on your region. Here in Leicester, some areas, it's really good and I've had some great speeds, but in other areas, it's pretty standard. I think, for me, 5G is something that will get better with time, and if it's something that you can't fully take advantage of right now, it's nice to have this and make your device future-proof.

One thing, however, that I am concerned about when it comes to 5G and the iPhone 12 mini is the battery life. This, of course, has the smallest battery across all of the new iPhones. And in my experience, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have been okay. Although, I am a heavy user, I think the Max will be more suited to me. It's going to be very interesting to see how the battery life is on the iPhone 12 mini, especially considering that 5G does take up a lot of battery.

Now, the iPhone 12 mini, as with the other iPhones, can automatically switch to 4G if you are not using those 5G speeds to save on battery life. But again, because of the size of this battery, it's going to be very interesting to see how long this lasts. Now 20-watt charging is supported. Again, that charger is something that you're going to have to buy separately. And we've also got support for qi wireless charging with MagSafe technology.

Now you can get up to 15 watts of wireless charging with MagSafe and of course, you have support for lots of the new accessories with MagSafe that Apple have introduced. Now let's talk about pricing and availability. So this actually starts at around 700 pounds in the UK, which is 100 pounds less compared to the iPhone 12, and you're not necessarily missing out on any of the features. You're still getting a great display, the same built and design, the exact same cameras with the same A14 Bionic chip. I think the main difference will be the battery size, the smaller battery size here on the iPhone 12 mini, but this is all coming in at a very compact form factor, which I'm sure a lot of people will like, especially if you're coming from an older, smaller iPhone, and you don't really want to make a jump to a big 6.1 inch display. Now the 700 pounds starting price is for the 64 gigabyte version.

My advice as always is just to spend that 50 pounds more and get the 128 gigabyte version, especially if you're going to be recording lots of video and taking lots of images on here, just to kind of have that safety of not worrying about storage, maybe a couple of years down the line.
