iPhone 12 Mini | Six Months Review

So these days, compact smartphones, are rarer than a funny jams Borden joke, even with the likes of a before mini, allegedly lurking there on the horizon. But if you really do want a dinky, blower that'll squeeze into even the skinniest of skinny jeans, then one of the best options in 2021 is still Apple's iPhone.12 mini the iPhone 12 mini launched half a year ago and proved to be my favorite of the new Apple smartphone lineup, with far superior battery life than the god awful iPhone SE 2020, and an easier to handle design compared with the rest of its bulky, siblings. Of course, as this is an Apple smartphone, it naturally hasn't dropped in price at all over the past half a year, it's still 700 bob. If you want the cheapest model or 850 quid. If you want the maxed out, storage fetch the hammer it's time to knock out the last of granddad's gold teeth, so I've once again had my sims slapped inside the iPhone 12 money be used as my full-time personal handset for over a week now and here's my in-depth six-month review to see if it's still worth picking up in 2021 and for the latest greatest tech. Please do poke subscribe, ending that notifications bell cheers so this 5.4 inch blower is the tiniest phone that I've used this year. Besides the ridiculously diminutive three inches jelly 2.

, but while that phone was frankly a bit of a struggle to operate at times, the iPhone 12 mini is a well-balanced handset that offers impressive ease of use. Its crazy light at 133 grams and easy to wield one-handed. Despite that chunky finish, even the angular design did not compromise those comfort levels. My only complaint is you can't swipe from the edge of the screen to go back in most of your apps, which would make that one-handed use absolutely sublime and yeah on a screen. They're small miss touches are basically inevitable again, not helped by the complete lack of gesture support.

You just got to basically train yourself to slow down a bit just be that little more precise when you're tapping links and buttons and the rest, and you'll generally be all right. As for general toughness. Well, the iPhone 12 mini, isn't quite the smartphone equivalent of Joe Pesci. I've dropped it a couple of times and thankfully those glass surfaces haven't shattered, but apple's ceramic shield display has scratched up a lot more than I was expecting having dropped an awful lot of android smartphones over the last few years as well. I can guarantee you this ben't.

The toughest display around not by a country mile, so yeah definitely slap on a screen protector. If I were you just to be on the safe side, but at least you do get that ip68, water and dust resistance as well, so splashes spills all that stuff, no worries at all apple offers, the mini in a bright vibrant range of colors, with that fresh new lavender purple finish now thrown into the mix. If you prefer your smartphones to look like the worst confectionary ever made, I personally think that that lovely, luscious red model is the best looking version, but I really quite like this dark blue effort as well, so on to the subject of software and of course, iOS 14 has been updated quite considerably, since the iPhone 12 mini was first launched six months ago. Sadly, Apple still hasn't added, quite a lot of features that I personally long for and really do miss every time I swap to iOS stuff like and always on, display the ability for apps like these are an audible to actually download massive files in the background and a notification setup that isn't an absolute horror show. However, you do now have a way to unlock the iPhone when you're wearing a face mask that doesn't involve punching in your bloody pin every time.

Unfortunately, this method does involve throwing even more of your hard-earned cash at apple as it involves buying their premium priced smartwatch, and unfortunately, this has proven about secure as android's trusted lock feature i. e. , not very at all, especially as videos have already emerged online. If people use teddy bears to unlock the iPhone post update, perhaps one day we'll see a touch ID, a fingerprint sensor slapped on an iPhone again, especially as those chunky edges are absolutely crying out for. One you've also now got dual sim 5g support, while apps like podcasts, have been overhauled slightly and though the playback speeds are still ridiculous, with no way to set it in between one and one and a half times speed.

Thanks to the various updates. You can also now share your eta in maps with your mates, just using a quick voice command via three, which is very helpful when you're driving. Unfortunately, the rigidity of iOS does mean that my preference is going to be with android, but I do enjoy quite a lot of features on iOS such as, for instance, that all-encompassing control center, which is absolutely fantastic, and I really get on very well with apple home and Apple Health, and thankfully I haven't experienced too many quirks using iOS here on the iPhone 12 mini over the past few months. Besides the occasional weird little bout of quirkiness, such as the audio, not playing when I was playing back videos in that photos, app which put the let me think- and I just hadn't- bothered to record any audio at all and, as always, of course, with apple in control of both of the hardware and the software. Here, you know that your iPhone 12 money is going to stay fresh with those updates and all the security love for the foreseeable, certainly a lot stronger than most android smartphones.

In that respect, of course, one of the most talked about features of the latest iPhones was their support for the new MagSafe accessories, something which has real potential on which third-party manufacturers are now taking advantage of by offering their own MagSafe cases and charges, and you know still yet to see any truly imaginative or groundbreaking uses of MagSafe, but it is still very early days. So here's hoping that it gets some proper love soon. Audio lovers: don't get a headphone jack, sadly, but the Bluetooth connectivity was stable and long reaching, and it wasn't worked in crowds either plus the stereo speaker setup is punchy for something so small. As for that dinky 5.4-inch OLED screen. This is definitely a case of love and hate.

I love the crisp natural looking visuals that sharp contrast and the clear visibility, even on sunny days, which does occasionally happen here in blight, not to mention those excellent viewing angles. However, the small statue isn't ideal for watching anything beyond basic YouTube stuff, not least because that comedically enormous mustache notch blocks a good chunk of the view. It's almost like a special nostalgia feature for anyone who really misses being sat behind some enormous at the cinema just get out of the way already, and while some budget phones offering 90 hertz OLED screen at a fraction of the price of the iPhone 12 mini. It's an absolute disgrace that this thing tops off at 60 hertz, when you're used to playing with 90, hertz or even 120 hertz displays in a lot of android rivals. This 60 hertz effort just feels really, really slow.

Thankfully slow is one word that you definitely cannot throw out the iPhone 12 minis performance that ear 14 chipsets can handle absolutely everything you chuck at it, even with just four gigs of ram on board. Gaming isn't ideal, admittedly, with that shrunken screen, especially with the giant notch intrusion on the action, but I could still happily blast through a few games of Call of Duty when I felt the old blood lost dozen and that teeny display is perfectly responsive. Even the most resource. Sucking titles, like gentian impact, played beautifully on the mac style, detail, setting never diving below 60 frames per second and yes, the 12th generation of iPhone introduced 5g as well. So you got that strong connectivity, although, sadly, the storage situation is as dire as always.

You've got 64 gigs of space on this base model with subtle micro SD support. I mean even some budget android smartphones these days come with 128 gigs of storage, bare minimum with micro SD memory card support chucked on top as well, so a paltry 64 on a premium price. Smartphone, frankly feels like a kick in the good news on the battery front, though, because after a few months of play and several updates, the iPhone 12 money is still generally making it through a full day, no worries, even with a fair bit of screen on time, lots of media streaming and all that good stuff. You can generally make it through a full day on a single charge, although you will be running into dregs by the end of it all uh, but be warned if you are going to be doing a skyping or zooming anything that uses those cameras or, of course, a good bit of gaming and chances are, you will have to give it a bit of a boost before the evening time now the iPhone 12 minis camera experience hasn't changed up at all these past six months, and that is fine by me because the dual end setup, the same hardware as you'll, find on the standard. iPhone 12 still works a treat it's a similar experience to what you'll get on Google's pixel smartphone.

So basically just point and shoot no brains required, which is perfect. For me. That hardware and apple's processing smarts combine to produce natural, looking shots in pretty much any conditions. Even when you're dealing with incandescent skies or dimly lit interiors, you don't get a massive megapixel count, but finer details are still accurately captured, and my test picks look sharp even when beamed to a big old teddy screen, while moving subjects are also handled with gusto shots. Taken with that ultra-wide angle, lens aren't as natural with warmer colors on shore, but it is still far from the worst performance.

I've seen that night mode still activates automatically, although it can be tinkered with to a small degree and while apple's take isn't quite as impressive as Huawei or Google's efforts, you still get perfectly usable snaps, even when there is strong contrast, switch to video, and you can shoot glorious home movies in 4k resolution at up to 60 frames per second with support for Dolby Vision. If you fancy it and as usual with Apple devices, I've got no complaints here.4K clips look great on your teddy box. Thanks to that, fine detailing and again those natural looking colors complete with very respectable image. Stabilization audio pickup is strong as well as long as you want filament in gale force, winds flip to the front facing camera and that 12 megapixel selfie snapper also does a fine job, capturing natural look and skin tones. Even when you're trying to grab a snap against a bright background, you've got those portrait smarts as well and even in low light.

The iPhone 12 mini generally does an alright job. So that's my full final six months, long term review of the iPhone 12 mini and, as you can see there, if you're after a compact, smartphone and your heart is more set towards iOS than android. Then the iPhone 12 money is a great option and that's busy. It's going to be the software, that's the main deciding factor for you which OS you prefer iOS or android uh. But in terms of this versus the pixel, you know they've both got great camera tech.

I really like the OLED screens, even though the pixel does upgrade it to a 90 hertz and the iPhone definitely has it as far as the performance is going. So if you want an absolute gaming machine, then job done, so that's what I think would be great to hear from you guys as well. If you've been using the iPhone 12 many for the past uh several months, then definitely let us know your mini review down in the comments below, and please do pop subscribe and ding that notifications bell for more on the latest and greatest tech cheers you.
