I feel like this has been one of apple's most requested products in a really long time. They haven't made a dedicated, smaller version of the iPhone since the original SE- and I know a lot of people are still holding onto that device because of the size so enter the iPhone 12 mini a phone, that's totally dedicated to those who are looking for a brand new iPhone experience just on a smaller scale, I'm going to avoid a deep dive here, I'm just going to tell you about the most important things about this phone, what it's like to actually use on a day-to-day basis and how it compares to a normal-sized iPhone and how the battery holds up, because I think that's what most people are probably worried about before. I do, though, I wanted to give a huge shout out to Vodafone UK who have been kind enough to lend me this 12 mini for a few weeks. I really appreciate the support from them. They haven't asked me to say anything specific, and no money has exchanged hands, so you can be sure these are my genuine thoughts. If that sort of video you'd like to see more of then consider subscribing to the channel, it helps me out massively and if you're thinking of picking up a 12 mini then check the links in the description below anyway, let's get into it if you've been using bigger phones for the past few years, you might feel like this mini device is a clear no-go, but I think you'd be surprised.
The second you place it. In the palm of your hand, it becomes instantly likable. The old things we used to take for granted come screaming back into full view too. This is a one-handed device through and through, and it only takes a moment to remember why that used to be the norm. You can reach every corner of this device and do everything with one hand, and it slips into most pockets or bags, no problem at all, usually there's a sense of a smaller device, you're not getting quite as much or something has been cut, but not here apple haven't skimped on anything.
It's like someone took a shrink ray to the iPhone 12 you're. Getting the same, awesome build the same screen, quality, the same dual camera setup, the same processor, the same ceramic shield, the same MagSafe setup, it's literally just a smaller device. The best part, though, is despite its small footprint. It doesn't actually feel small and that's thanks to that 5.4 inch display, which is what we used to consider large a few years ago and funnily enough, it's a bigger screen than the first Galaxy Note. So it's really quite the perfect mix in my eyes as someone who's been using larger phones for a good.
While, though, I thought I'd hate the typing experience on here, but after a few days of use, I was already used to it. I can't deny that I prefer typing on a bigger phone. I'm definitely typing more mistakes than I usually do, but you can do this. One-Handed no problem- and I know a lot of people will really value that it's safe to say. I got used to this device really quickly and when I pick up my normal-sized iPhone 12 Pro, it feels huge in comparison.
I wouldn't say I'm a total convert to the size of the 12 mini, but I do think anyone who picks it up will really enjoy it. Some notes on battery life. Before we start, I don't live in a 5g area, so I can only test this as a 4g device. I know when this phone needs to switch between 4g and 5g. It uses up some battery so take that into account when looking at these results, the 12 mini has a 2227 William hour battery, which isn't huge, and understandably so, in this smaller device.
So I'll straight up, say it the battery isn't class leading, but you probably already knew that, but how does it actually hold up on a genuine everyday use case? For me, the battery life has been genuinely pretty good, and I was really surprised I was ready and waiting for it to not be great, but for my usage, it's actually holding up really well, I'm getting around my standard three to four hours of screen on time with around 20 of battery life left before I go to bed, which is usually around 11 pm, as you guys can see from these screenshots, I tried a variation of tasks. One day I used the iPhone for navigation and music. While I was driving some gaming on another day and more general use on others, mainly revolving around social media and listening to music. My most full-on day revolved around being on a variation of WhatsApp voice and video calls for over two hours, amongst my normal daily use, and I managed to pull out a really impressive 4 hours and 44 minutes of screen on time with about 15 of battery life remaining so yeah, some astounding and decent results there. This easily beats out the iPhone SE from earlier in the year, no problem.
So if you find you get along just fine with that which has got pretty average battery life, then you really will be fine with the iPhone 12 mini overall, I would consider the battery life on this device to be just good. I can easily cope with this if it was my default device, and I think it's definitely worth a second look. If you wrote it off for its battery to round this video up I'll say for those who are getting sick of massive phones in general, the 12 mini is a breath of fresh air in an industry that seems pretty obsessed with bulging device sizes after living with it. For about two weeks, I would happily recommend it to others, but especially to those who are holding on to their old iPhone SE. This phone was basically made for you, so don't hesitate on it.
It's an awesome upgrade to that device. So those are my final thoughts. If you enjoyed the video consider subscribing to the channel like I said it helps me out massively and drop a like on the way out. That'd be huge, and I'll see you all in the next one.
