iPhone 12 mini *CAMERA* review: iPhone 12 mini camera vs iPhone 8 camera! (photo + video comparison)

What's up guys welcome back to my channel today, I am coming back to you guys with another iPhone 12 mini video. I did an unboxing with you guys, as well as setting up the iPhone mini, but in today's video I am going to be going over the iPhone 12 mini camera, as well as comparing it to my iPhone 8 camera. So that is what is going to be in store for today's video. I feel like every time a new iPhone comes out. The main selling point is always the camera. The new iPhones always talk about how advanced the cameras are.

How amazing the cameras are, how crystal clear the pictures are, how crisp the image looks, but you never really know if it's true or if it's just some sort of advertising technique. So that is what I want to figure out today. I have always been one of those people that have been skeptical when new iPhones would come out, and I've always thought in my head. The camera cannot be that much better to go out and buy a whole new iPhone. So what I'm going to do today is compare my iPhone 8 camera to the iPhone 12 mini camera.

I know there's been a lot of different iPhones in between. I think this will be a perfect comparison to see how nice the iPhone 12 mini camera may be compared to the eight. This will also allow us to see how much apple truly has evolved and if their technology has really gotten as good as people say so in my hands. Here I do have my new iPhone 12 mini on this side, and then I do have my iPhone 8. On this side.

I have been using this iPhone 8 for about four years. I believe- and I never really thought that there was anything wrong with the camera. When I tell you that I was absolutely blown away and amazed at the camera on the 12 mini, I was actually shocked. I was out there screen, recording these images with the 12 mini and with the 8, and I could not believe my eyes and how different the photos looked side by side. So, first things first before we actually get into the image quality and comparing the video and photos of the two phones together.

The first thing we have to note is: there's obvious physical differences from a first glance. As you can see, there are two cameras on the iPhone 12 mini compared to the iPhone 8, which only has one camera. I never knew if it would really make a difference between having two cameras and having one camera. So that is something that we are going to go over in today's video, and we are going to see if it truly does make a difference, they look completely different. They are completely different, and they have to be different for a reason, so I decided to take both the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 8 outside and try to capture something in nature.

I feel like that is the true test to see how good a camera actually is when you're in natural lighting- and you don't have any artificial lighting in the background. I put both cameras side by side, so I could be capturing the same image and the same details and when I first started screen recording. Furthermore, I was absolutely amazed at what my eye was looking at. When I put these two cameras side by side. I could not believe my eyes so the first thing I do want to know about the iPhone 12 mini that might not be the most obvious thing in the world is that the quality of the picture is 1 000 times better than that of the picture with the iPhone 8.

The quality of the photo is so crisp. The color of the photo is 100 times brighter. So when I compared the iPhone 12 mini video to the iPhone 8 video, the iPhone 8 video looked extremely dull and the colors that you could see, they weren't extremely vibrant. They did not look as pretty as they were. You know how, when you hear the phrase the picture or the video doesn't, do it justice.

It is the same thing with the iPhone 8 compared to the iPhone 12 mini. I actually feel like when I was recording things with the 12 mini. The camera was actually picking up on the true beauty. That was right in front of my eyes when I went back and watched the video on the 12 mini compared to the eight I felt like the video on the just made, the flowers look very dull, not as beautiful as they truly were, but when I pulled up the flowers on the 12 mini it looked exactly like it looked in person, you could see the flowers you could see the details. You could see everything there as if you were in real time- and that was the first thing that caught me off guard with the camera is the huge difference from the 12 mini to the 8.

I guess that really caught me off guard, because I wasn't expecting to get a new phone and the phone absolutely changed the entire quality of the photo, but it is amazing to have a camera on a phone that can actually pick up the color and the real beauty. That is right in front of you, aside from being amazed by the color and the quality that was being picked up through the 12 mini camera. The second thing that I noticed about the 12 mini is the ability to have the 0.5 zoom and the one zoom. This might not be a huge shocker or a huge change for those of you that have had a newer iPhone and have had the zoom capabilities. But if you were someone that had an iPhone 8 or maybe even an older phone than the 8, you have just the regular photo setting.

You don't have the ability to change the zoom settings, but in the 12 mini the ability to go from that 0.5 to the one zoom is a life changer. I thought it was amazing to be able to see the difference that the phone can actually capture from going from a 0.5 zoom to the one zoom it felt like you were taking 100 steps back and then snapping a photo. So that is something I noticed with the 12 mini. Are you can capture so much more in one photo? Then you can with something like the iPhone 8, since you don't have those different zoom capabilities again, if you do have a newer iPhone, then you are probably already used to this feature, but if you are new to the 12 mini, and you had an older phone to begin with, that is one of the things that is going to shock you the most, and you are going to be the happiest about, because not only are you improving your image quality? Not only are you improving the color of your photos, but you're also improving the image you can actually capture. The third thing I am going to touch on with the camera on the 12 mini is portrait mode again.

This is going to be another one of those things if you have had a newer iPhone. This is not going to be too new to you. It's not going to be that amazing to you. But again, if you're, someone like me who is working with an iPhone 8 or maybe even an older phone, you do not have portrait mode when I started taking pictures side by side with the iPhone 8 with the 12 mini, and I put it in portrait mode on the 12 mini and I had my regular camera up on my iPhone 8. I was absolutely shocked at the difference it can make to put a photo in portrait mode.

I feel like portrait mode is just a fun thing that you can use if you really want to get a little artistic, and you really want to focus on something and kind of blur out the background. But portrait mode truly does make your photo feel more professional. When I was comparing the two side by side, I felt like the iPhone 8 again the photo just looked bland. The image did not look crisp, the color was not there and the whole image was kind of just what you could capture in the picture, whereas when you go in portrait mode on the 12 mini you're, truly capturing that one thing you want to focus on, and again you have the background still, but it's blurred out, but not to where it looks like you went on a photo, editing, app and blurred it out, because you didn't want anyone to see what was in the background, it looks like you truly have a professional camera, and you're focusing your lens on what you want to see, and the background is just an added bonus. Another thing I want to touch on with the camera on the 12 mini compared to the iPhone 8.

When you are in natural light with the 12 mini you pick up on the natural light it doesn't blur out. It doesn't look like a super bright light that you can't focus on the camera on the 12 mini actually focuses on that beam of sunlight. For instance, I was in front of a pool, so the sun was shining down on the water and the water would reflect the sunlight. The camera did not blur out that area or make it seem super bright to where you could not tell what was going on. The camera on the 12 mini actually emphasized the natural light, and it made it look very crisp and beautiful.

But when I compared that to the iPhone 8, I noticed the iPhone 8 picking up on the sunlight, almost looked like it couldn't even pick up on what it was recording because it was so bright. So that is something that I will note is that the camera can pick up on so many things that the iPhone 8 cannot. I know, there's some sort of technology word for that or there's a reasoning for that. I just don't know what it is, but it is something that I could easily catch right from a first glance as if all those things that I just mentioned the camera on the 12 mini were not good enough. Another thing that I did notice, while I was recording with my 12 mini right up next to the iPhone 8, is that the 12 mini can pick up on motion very, very well.

So if you are recording something, whether it's a video or even a live, photo, and you're recording something that is moving, the 12 mini camera is going to be able to pick up on it and get every single little pixel and make it feel like when you're re-watching it you're still there viewing that same exact scenery as if it was right in front of your eyes. Whereas when I recorded the same exact thing with my iPhone 8, the camera could not pick up on the little ripples in the water and when the wind was blowing just picking up on the flowers blowing in the wind, it could not pick up nearly not even half as good as the camera on the 12 mini. So overall I'm going to go ahead and say I was wrong. I was always skeptical about the iPhone cameras being as good as they say when a new camera comes out. Of course, I'm comparing to an iPhone 8 and not a 10 or 11, compared to the 12 mini, but if you go from an iPhone 8 to the 12 mini, it is going to be a world of a difference and, in my opinion, paying for a new phone and paying for the price of an iPhone 12 or an iPhone 12 mini pro max, whatever it might be.

It's worth it in its own to buy the phone just for the camera after today, and after doing this first impression and review, I know that I'm going to get my money's worth just from the camera in itself, because the quality is that much better. So hopefully, if you are someone that has been in between if purchasing the new phone is worth it, if maybe you have an older phone that still works, but you don't know if it's worth it to go, buy a new phone, because the camera might not be as good as people say. I'm here to tell you and I would not steer you wrong. The camera is as good as they say. This is definitely the best camera.

I have ever had on a phone. This is definitely the most advanced phone I have ever had, but the camera is very similar to a professional camera. I almost think it would be fun to record a whole entire YouTube video with this phone and see if I can tell a difference from recording a video on my phone or recording a video on my canon camera. So let me know if that's something you guys would be interested in seeing, so we could actually see the comparison from the 12-minute video to a canon camera that is pretty much going to close out this video of us going over the camera on the iPhone 12 mini, as well as comparing the camera on the 12 mini to the iPhone 8. Hopefully this video helped out any of you that are considering purchasing the new phone and, if you ended up liking, the video make sure you give it a huge thumbs up subscribe to my channel.

While you are here. I do upload videos every Tuesday and Friday, and I will see you guys in my next one bye, guys.
