Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Battery Life SUCKS... The Final Update

Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey, so I'm back to talk about our favorite friend, the Samsung Galaxy s21, ultra, which I have right here in my hand- and this is the last and final entry in my saga of terrible battery. So I've talked about this phone enough for a long enough time. It's been out since January. We had the initial launch. We had the February patch, the march patch, the April patch, and this thing still needs more patches. The battery life still has tremendous issues and yeah.

I want to talk about this in this video, but before we get into that, I would like you to admire all this, because I put a lot of time and effort into making all this look fancy, but either way uh beyond that. I do want to say if this is your first time stopping by the channel. Thank you for being here. If you enjoy the video, please hit the like, and the subscribe button and little notification bell. If you want updates, when new videos come out, let's talk about the battery life on the s21 ultra all right, so I've had a lot of mixed feelings about this phone and this battery.

Initially I really like the phone a lot. I still do it's a very good phone, snapdragon 8 processors, the best and brightest out there tons of ram plenty of storage space. Mostly I mean I don't like this entry 128 and there's no expandable storage, so you're kind of messed up in that regard. I don't like that. Samsung did that, especially for a 1200 phone granted.

You can pick them up now for about 9.99 some places, which is actually a perfect deal, and I have nothing but good things to say about this phone in every single department, except for the battery, which is the most important part to me on my day-to-day life because well I use my screen a lot, which means that I kill this thing like that. So looking at the s21 ultra 5000 ml amp battery, you would think that it would last you for forever, but the problem is along comes 120, hertz, refresh rate along comes quad, HD plus resolution along comes the snapdragon 8 and those three things right. There are like a trifecta of a perfect disaster for the battery life, and it's not just this phone. There are other phones as well. The problem is, is they can't provide enough power to sustain all that and plus the triple eight processors has some heating issues.

I mean let's go ahead and get that on the table here. People know that it has heating issues, so the heat also degrades the battery life so as you're using it the more you use if it's funny, because the standby time is actually pretty decent, but as soon as you turn it on and fire it up, especially after it's been off for a few hours. I've noticed if I leave it for a few hours. Standby battery looks good and then, when I spool it up and start using it, I've got a sharp drop in the battery life. So I was kind of hopeful and when the march update came out, it really didn't fix things.

But when the April update came out, I was like okay. Maybe this will work out all right and one day I just happened to look down at my battery, and I'm like holy smokes. I got six and a half hours of battery life. I thought things have changed. Things are better, and I put my sim card back in it and I tried it out again, and I got like five hours of screen on time like well.

Okay, maybe it was just a fluke and then the next day I did it again, and I got three and a half hours three hours and 30 minutes of screen on time on like 17 hours of total time since my last chart. So I fell asleep on my phone that night I didn't charge it, so I fired it up and tested it back out, but three and a half hours, I'm not talking about using video. I didn't even play any games, we're not even talking about like extended sessions. It's just that bad and some of you are probably sitting there going dude your phone's defective, my phone's not defective. I have tested it rigorously.

I've gone through a lot of different stuff on here, and I've got it as optimized as good as I can. Furthermore, I don't have any noticeable apps or during anything it's just the phone battery and the phone and the problem are, and it isn't inherently bad with Samsung. But here's the other thing you can't charge it superfast, and I've really been enjoying my OnePlus 9 pro lately, because I can recharge it from one percent in 29 minutes. You can't get anywhere near that with the s21 ultra. So it's much harder to forgive that when I kill the battery by mid-afternoon on a five thousand William battery, I'm not playing games, I'm not recording video, I'm just having the screen on using Twitter, sending email doing some light browsing.

That's very unacceptable to me, because it should last much longer than that, especially when it's not doing intensive things like if you're, not playing games which drains battery and I even tested it LTE on LTE off. There was only like a 20-minute difference in battery from one day to the next, so it's not even 5g. That's really killing it. I've tested this multiple times so really at the end of the day. The conclusion that I draw from the battery life on this phone is its a combination of the screen which, yes, the screen, uses a ton of battery.

It's the largest battery using component on the phone tied into the processor, so we've got the snapdragon triple eight, which is very powerful, high clocks, but you're talking like three gigahertz for the primary core, and then you're also talking about the battery 5000 William, which you would think is perfect. Snapdragon 8, combined with the quad HD plus resolution, 120 hertz refresh rate, I'm sorry, but that being able to throttle down the refresh rate really doesn't make much of a difference. Even changing the resolutions doesn't do a lot. Now, if you were to rock 720p on your phone, then yes, you can squeeze out some more time, but I've had a lot of people that are like hey. If you turn off the 120 hertz and if you turn it down to 1080p and if you put on battery saving mode- and if you know put it in dark mode, if you use adaptive brightness like all these different things, yes, those are going to extend your battery life.

You can squeeze more battery out of it, but I didn't buy a 1200 phone so that I could use all those things I want 120 hertz. I want quad HD plus, I want all the power and this isn't even running with enhanced processing mode. This is, with the processor, already throttled straight out of the gate, which is something in the battery settings. You probably don't even know about you have to enable it, so you can get more performance out of your processor, so I don't even have that turned on by the way. So the moral of the story here is the battery life on this phone.

For me sucks now I know some of you guys are getting more battery. I know some of you are getting six seven, eight nine ten hours, that's great. There does seem to be some disparity between certain day-to-day usages that has been reported from other people. I get that. That's something that you get when you get batteries.

You know there are different levels of tolerance and quality control and all that good stuff. So, yes, some people might have better actual batteries, but the moral of the story here is there are a lot of people that are affected by this. I get a lot of comments. I get a lot of people who are like yes, yes, yes, thank you so much for saying something about this. It's not just me! So if you want to watch the other video I made about how to squeeze more battery out of your phone, you can do it.

You can put on battery saving mode. You can throttle it back. Some more. You can turn the brightness down use adaptive brightness turn on dark mode. You can do all sorts of different things to try and extend it, but if you want to use this full bore 100 the way that the phone is intended to be used, because it's a performance flagship, arguably the best android phone.

Furthermore, you can get you shouldn't have to handicap it to get five hours of battery life on screen on time. I'm sorry- and some of you say oh well, screen on time is not a valuable metric. It's you know it's its a moving target. I don't care if I kill it with three and a half hours of screen on time, that is abysmal, and that means that it's terrible because it's not doing what I need it to do. If I need a lot of screens on time which you should get with a 5 000 ml battery, then yes, I think that I have some room to complain there.

So those are my thoughts. Those are the issues the April update, didn't fix it. The march update, didn't fix it, and I'm fairly certain. A lot of this is software. Related too, when it first came out, I was getting eight hours of screen on time.

I thought it's a miracle Samsung, finally got it right and then, by time February rolled around, we got the first patch. I went from eight hours of screen on time to four and a half and really haven't gone. Much back so, yes, it seems like they might have struck pay dirt just a little with the April patch, but then I'm hearing from other people saying that it completely messed up their battery, and now they're having even worse battery life. So there's a lot going on here. I hope Samsung can figure it out, likely I'm not going to make another one of these videos.

I've talked about the battery problems to death with this phone, it's very frustrating. And yes, I'm frustrated. I paid a lot of money for this phone, and it doesn't live up to expectations for day-to-day performance. Does it have lots of power? Yes, but it's like a Ferrari with a 5 gallon gas tank. You can't get very far.

So that's all I've got if you have any questions or comments. If you want to complain file a complaint with star command go ahead, I don't care. This is my video. This is my experience. I'm sharing with you.

If your mileage varies, I'm happy that it's living up to your expectations. But for me, it's an okay. So that's all I've got like. I said any questions or comments. Please feel free to leave them down in the comment section I'll get back with you if you enjoyed the video, please hit the like and the subscribe button and the little notification bell.

If you want updates when new videos come out, hopefully enjoyed the new background in the setting with the new camera that I got it's a new thing, I'm working on here so yeah. I hope that it looks good and this improves the experience for you guys watching sound off in the comments. If you have any thoughts on how it looks and that's all I've got so as always. Thanks for being here, I appreciate you watching, and I'll see you guys next time.
