iPhone 11 Pro Max Review: Google should be Embarrassed!

You know every single year, I feel like I am going to be disappointed by the next iPhone, because I always buy one, and I appreciate all the changes and I feel like it's underappreciated, because there's so much they've added. But since it looks similar to last year's, everyone just overlooks it, and then I say you know what this year is actually pretty substantial. But next year's that one will be boring, and I think the reason I do, that is I. Don't want to get myself too excited like I. Have this deep down insecure feeling that I'm gonna finally be disappointed, but that's actually good I'm, proud of myself I give myself a gold sticker, because that actually allows me to get excited and actually genuinely appreciate. iPhone upgrades, even if they may seem on the surface, is not that big and that's kind of been my experience with the 11pro Macs.

If you go back and ask drew a year ago what I thought the 2019 iPhone was gonna, be like I, probably wasn't that excited I would say: yeah they're, adding an ultra-wide, or maybe they're shrinking the notch, or something like that. But wrong or right at the end of the day, they're able to implement things in just the right ways that it results in a noticeably improved experience that I very much enjoy so today, I'll be reviewing the best smartphone on the planet, with one of the dumbest names of a smartphone on the planet. The 11pro max- and you heard me right best, smartphone ever don't ugh, no I don't want to hear any of those comments. No, it's not an opinion. It's an objective fact! There's no way! You can argue with me because my opinion and my personal preferences apply to everyone.

So don't try to argue with me, I'm joking, let's begin, first, let's just get the biggest upgrade out of the way. The camera improvements after using several Android smartphones this year with triple camera setups, it's so exciting to finally see one that doesn't have any limitations, particularly when it comes to video. This is the only smartphone I've ever utilized that has four lenses on it, each of which are capable of 4k at 60. For whatever reason in previous generation smartphones, they would cap out that 4k 60 option and not make it available for the ultra-wide lenses, which I think looks great, because it turns your iPhone into a GoPro looking lens and not to mention just for photography. That ultra-wide lens is way more helpful than I originally made it out to be red alert everybody sound.

The alarm drew is admitting. He was wrong in the past I. Do this a lot get used to it in the past I used to say an ultra-wide is not as useful as a telephoto, because there's way more situations where being able to zoom in on a subject is needed and not too many situations where you need to zoom out on a situation, because the standard lens on the iPhone is pretty wide as it is. But if you guys recall back when I tested the galaxy s, 10 plus great phone by the way, I would still recommend that to people who want to buy a flagship, Android experience, that's when I started, realizing that ultra-wide lens provided an angle that you couldn't get elsewhere. A telephoto is enhancing a view you can already see where, as an ultra-wide is bringing in a view, that's not really there.

That's why there's so much fun Google! It's especially helpful for people in the real estate business. As someone who recently purchased a house, I can tell you that a lot of people that are trying to sell their house are often using ultra-wide lenses to make living rooms and to make kitchens feel a lot bigger than they really are. It's a very common thing in the real estate market, which is quite popular so having an ultra-wide lens built into the smartphone now, so now you can give a much larger than life looking photo to situations that ordinarily, maybe aren't that big, like average sized bedrooms and living rooms, suddenly feel huge thanks to that ultra-wide lens perspective and for everyday consumers. I, definitely think more of them will appreciate having an ultra-wide lens than a telephoto. However, I still think the improvements to the telephoto lens can very quickly be glanced over.

If you don't pay much attention to them. I'm very much grateful Apple has improved the telephoto lens this year with a lower aperture, which means that it performs better in low-light situations in the amount of optical image. Stabilization I can get out of the telephoto lens is also really impressive. There's still a lot of people that say they would rather have an ultra-wide over a telephoto and vice versa. Telephoto actually is more important than ultra-wide.

You know it's more important options. You know what a photographer or videographer once on their phone camera options and that's why the pro max is so great. It's because you have both. You want to get closer and not lose quality and still record at 4k at 60. You can do that if you want to get everything in the room with one angle, you can also do that and there's not gonna, be any stupid.

Frame rate limitations there's also more ways to do portrait mode than ever before. So the front-facing camera has been improved with a 12 megapixel sensor and also an ultra-wide lens, which allows more to fit in the shot. But if you don't need that little of warp for when you're taking a regular photo in selfie mode, it's the exact same 8 megapixels as before, and not as zoomed out and more traditional, so I think Apple is really smart and allowing you to activate it by tilting the phone and, of course, if you want to zoom out, you still can and stop. Judging me for this portrait mode, selfies, okay, it's called psoriasis we're gonna, see a doctor about it. I'm! Sorry, it's just my wife's, not home right now, so I don't have a model to pose for me in the other great addition to the front-facing camera, which I think by far has to be the most praised and most high in demand feature we've ever seen on any smartphone, let alone any camera with slow fees.

Everyone wanted more slow fees, I've been asking for this for 50 years and now that we finally have slow fees I'm able to capture these slow-motion selfies that everyone loves so much I, know I sound redundant since every single YouTuber has been talking about how great slow fees are and how appropriate and everlasting that name, slow fee is going to be and how excited people are to take them and that's probably the main reason. The Google Pixel did not get a high score on DXO mark I, think that was their major flaw of the pixel, for they say great camera, but not enough slow fees. iPhone has that yes, I'm aware I phone 11 takes the cake the best camera in a smartphone because of that feature alone, but now in all seriousness, one of the features I am very happy about, is finally being able to record 4k at 60 on the front-facing camera, which the front-facing camera on this thing has gotten so much significantly better than before that when I first started vlogging with it, a lot of people thought it was the rear facing camera, but no torque at 60 on the front, and it looks excellent love. It definitely looks really, really awesome, especially with that extended dynamic range now on the front-facing camera, especially when you're filming outside you can get really, really crisp video at a very buttery frame rate, no matter which lens you want to use. So it feels like the most versatile in the most freedom I've ever had with a smartphone camera before it's like you want to fit more things in the shot you want to get closer.

You want to film with a front-facing camera, no matter what you're filming with you're going to get super high-res video you're going to have a super high frame rate, and it's just going to crush the competition, basically in every way, now, moving on to I think the second-biggest upgrade to the iPhone 11 Pro max the battery life. This has been next-level I, don't think, there's ever been a smartphone before, where I've noticed this much change in battery life, to the point that I'm actually using my phone differently now previous generation iPhones, and if you watch my reviews from the old days, you'll, probably notice, I, don't really talk much about battery life I'm, always just like you know it gets you through the day. If I have a battery that doesn't get me through the day, I'll make a note of it, but for the most part, iPhone batteries have been decent in the past. Definitely in need of improvement, but for me at least, I could always get to the end of the day. Drop them on a charger and by the next morning, I'm ready to go.

The 11pro max battery life is so over the top, allowing me to get around ten hours of screen on time by the way great screen on time because of the display and how bright it gets. But I'll get into that later. I'm now treating my iPhone very much differently with charging habits for the first time, I don't have to charge my phone at night anymore. Granted. That's the most convenient way to do it, but I want to make a point about how great the battery life is on this thing, so I actually don't plug it in I, don't ever charge it until the battery gets around 10 to 5 percent and most of the time that usually takes like a good day and a half I can use my phone at a hundred percent and then go the rest of the day and then the next day for a few more hours before I have to plug in again and if you missed my port list challenge video, what I'm basically doing now, because I've for several years exclusively done QI charging I'm now doing the polar opposite, I'm, not wireless charging anymore.

I'm. Only fast charging now because I want to see how much Phil Swift I can do to this battery. So I'm fast charging exclusively I turned off optimize back recharging because I just want to brutally destroy the lithium in this thing and see how it ages, which I can do thanks to the included fast charger with the pro max I'm glad that Apple finally caved on that. If you recall back when the 10s max came out, I thought it was stupid that a battery that large on a phone was still being charged with a 5 watt, 18 watt, USB-C charge. Brick is great.

It allows it to charge up really, really quick, it's not the fastest okay, but still fast enough for people that forget to charge it overnight. You can still plug in and very quickly juice it up, but personally I think a long battery life is far more important than fast charging, because fast charging is very, very handy in the event of an emergency. You forgot to charge it overnight. They're gonna, plug it in now to get some juice for the rest of your day. What's better is a phone that can have such a great battery life that you can use it for the entire day and then the next morning still have juice left over, even if you didn't charge it to be able to get you through a few more hours, and I'm sure if you had 100% battery, and you turned on low power mode, I bet- you could stretch this out to two days.

I've seen some people with the pro max say that they can do that, and my battery life experience with it in regard to just idle time and standby time is probably a lot closer to my Apple Watch than previous generation iPhones. This thing often ends the day at 50 to 60%, and now I can somewhat get battery performance out of this pro max. That way, so across the board a plus battery life, they could make it better next year, but honestly I, don't think they need to if anything, it'll just be a miracle if they can add a 90 Hertz display and keep the same battery life that we've had before, which, knowing how Apple handled promotion on the iPads I think that's possible now getting into some underrated features of the pro max. The display upgrade was noticeable to me not to everyone. I get it, but particularly when I'm using the phone in broad daylight when I'm using it outside the extra nits they packed into it so that it gets really, really bright.

When you're outside is very, very helpful, because the smudges on the glass and everything don't really get in the way of your content, which was a common problem even with the OLED iPhones in the past, whether it was the 10s max or the iPhone 10. If I was in direct sunlight, it was pretty hard to see the screen. Now, that's not a problem any more because of how incredibly bright they get on here and even when I first picked up the pro max in the Apple Store. I noticed that double contrast, ratio of two million to one colors are popping. The brightness is really, really decent and now YouTube on iOS even supports HD content.

So if you're into that type of dynamic range, you can start to justify that super retina DR, but for the most part, I still think. HDR is kind of pointless. The only way for you to notice if it's working is if the title of the video says HDR and the quality of the video says HDR. If that's not there, no one's gonna notice, because your eyes just go. Oh, pretty colors I should look for that either way, though very happy with the display brightness and glad that that improved year-over-year tunnel.

Now, let's talk about the design a little, I think the software optimization of the three cameras on the back justifies the weird configuration, because so many people thought this was a bizarre looking camera module on the back. But given when you're recording videos at 1080p at 60fps, you can seamlessly switch between all three lenses, which I find very, very cool. I, think it has something to do with each of these being a 4k sensor, so they're kind of cropping in towards the center a little on each one, and that's why you can't switch between all three lenses when recording 4k at 60, because the jump would probably be too noticeable. But when you're taking a regular telephoto portrait mode shot, it's gathering data from the regular lens, but then, when you want to take a regular lens portrait mode shot, it's gathering data from the ultra-wide, so making sure all three lenses are equal distance from each other, I think makes complete sense and I get that the design is traditional. It's not a big design refresh physically from the front of this device.

It looks, and you're identical to the 10s max. But to me, it's like this was not the year for the big design change. This is apple's focus on the camera and enhancement on things where the 10s fell short on, and if you look back at I phone in the past, it's kind of like you have your redesign year, and then it's followed by an S year, and then you have a third year just dedicated to ironing things out in mostly perfecting the camera like the iPhone 6 was the big new design, and we had the 6s, and then we had the 7, which aesthetics wise looked pretty similar to the 6s. But if you consider all the changes they brought over with the 7, it was actually quite a substantial upgrade. Like I've been saying since January of this year.

This iPhone is kind of the next generation iPhone 7, because its traditional design, but with modern and up-to-date camera in battery performance, I love the frosted glass on the back as well as far as I can see. There's not been that many people complaining about how prone it is to scratch silver in particular, has aged very well. I can't find any scratches on my phone, and it attracts way less fingerprints than before, even if it is a little slipper. The stainless steel provides enough grip for me that I can use this phone case list and I don't feel like it's going to fall out of my hand, even though this is the heaviest iPhone to date, it's a good amount of weight, I like having a bit of weight in my pocket, so that I know my phone. Is there and there's not some seven-year-old at the McDonald's that just stole it out of my back pocket I know you're out there, Billy I will find you, but still I, think the design for the Pro max is very much an if it ain't broke, don't fix it and given the success of the iPhone 10 series and how much people have upgraded to that and how happy people are with the screen to body ratio that no chin at the bottom, those uniform bezels and a fairly unobtrusive notch I get that it's been there for years, but people seem to be overall happy with it.

So why try to mess with it? That's for next year, that's when they're gonna, ruin everything and raise the prices, but I'm happy with the design and I still feel like it's a new phone when I'm holding it, because I can feel the matte finish on the back. I noticed the super Retina DR display, and I'm okay with traditional designs, getting better as boring as they may be. That's oftentimes the phone that leaves the most impact now I'm gonna, do something that a lot of Apple sheep are not expecting in this review. I'm gonna talk about criticisms. That's right! It is not a perfect phone, mostly because you probably don't want the entire video just to be nonstop worship.

So I am gonna. Give a little of critical feedback on this thing, for one I feel like Apple is dragging it out with the lightning connector. I've talked about this for a long time and now that I'm back using the charge port I definitely think given. This is the pro model. It would have made a lot more sense if, like the iPad Pro got USB, this thing can also get USB-C, because that is the last port that can transfer data way faster.

It can also charge better, and it's more Universal to everybody else's accessories. I understand the arguments. There's a lot of people out there that have lightning accessories and lightning cables, and they're going to be very, very upset when they upgrade, which is why I think for the iPhone, 11 yeah sure keep lightning I won't bring that up, but for the people who are willing to spend eleven hundred dollars plus on an 11 pro max, they probably know what USB-C is. They probably have more USB-C accessories and cables, and if they don't, they're, probably rich enough that they can afford to buy new ones. So not that there's really inherently anything wrong with lightning I.

Just think Apple did get with the times a little. Okay is so many people moving to USB see you know the pros care about that, so why not just bring it over to this now. That being said, I also think that's a very stupid reason to not buy a phone just because it's rocking a lightning porch, because it still ships with a lightning to USB-C cable in the box. So if your point is you want it to work with your MacBook or you want it to work with all your USB-C chargers? It still will, they include a cable to allow that so don't skip a phone for that reason alone. But still, if Apple wants my advice and what's wrong with this phone lightning connector, that's probably going to be one of them.

Another criticism I have is face ID, it's the same as before, and I think that's a missed opportunity, because and before we had two generations of touch ID before Apple introduced the second generation of touch ID. Now we've had two generations of face ID, so I thought 2019 would be the perfect year to update it. Let it work from more angles like on the iPad Pro, let it work from further away or as I've been asking for months. It's actually an Android feature. I would love to see on iOS.

Allow users to jump directly to the home screen, I, get it Apple, you don't want people seeing their notifications and then having to automatically jump to the home screen as soon as the face IDs starts, unlocking, but at least let it be a toggle like keep it the way it is by default. But if users want to jump straight to the home screen as soon as your face is authenticated, let them because there's a lot of stupid, face unlock sensors out there that claim they're faster than the iPhone when in reality, I don't think they are I. Think the iPhones face. I'd is just as fast as the competition, it's just limited by the animations, and if Apple allowed us to bypass that and say how about it, only stays on the lock screen. When you have notifications or how about it, only jumps to the home screen.

If there are no notifications, you know just allowing the option. I, don't even think I would use that option, but I still think it should be there. Three years of the exact same biometric I know, Apple claimed it works for more angles. Now my experience, it doesn't work the exact same way, so that's kind of a missed opportunity. My third criticism is actually about the ultra-wide camera.

Just like other people have mentioned. I have to admit the ultra-wide has noticeable room for improvement for one. It's not a very good aperture at 2.4. The ultra-wide is not great in low-light situations, which feels kind of backwards right. You feel like, if you're letting light into the sensor, it should be better at low light but night mode, which is amazing.

The fact that you can take long exposure shots with a camera and basically see in the dark. It works fantastic I'm in love with how many situations I can use night mode in, but it only works with the regular lens and that kind of sucks I can understand it not working on the telephoto, maybe because that's more cropped in, and it's harder to, let more light in, but in the future Apple it would be kind of nice if we could do some night mode shots macrophotography with that ultra-wide as well, if it could have a lower aperture in the future and also if it could be a tad more sharp, just like a lot of YouTubers are brought up. The ultra-wide lens does look a little softer, though I'm still able to get some really impressive shots out of it, but yeah. We can definitely see room for improvement, even though this is a fantastic camera and I think it's the best one we've ever had on a smartphone and also optical image. Stabilization I understand that when you're shooting, with an ultra-wide lens, your hand, doesn't really cause much shakiness, because the wider, the angle, the less shaky your video is going to be.

However, it's still a little shaky I've done some vlogging with the ultra-wide lens and I notice it. It would be kind of helpful in the future if we had three cameras on the back of the phone, all of which had optical image stabilization, so that even if you're letting all of this light, and you're getting this super wide perspective, you can still stabilize it optically. That would be very much appreciated, and this is also more of a suggestion than it is a criticism and I know. I talked about 64 gigabyte iPhones in the past, and personally I am perfectly content with 64 gigs on a phone, but you've been we're aware of the price difference between a 64 gig chip in a 128 gig chip, and these are supposed to be considered the pro models, the ones that do more than just the base model as much as I defend, 64, gigs I, completely agree. It would be super nice and probably make a lot of sense that if you're charging $1000 plus for a phone, it can ship with 128 gigs by default.

Lots of other popular Android companies. Do this, and it does feel a little bizarre- that across the entire iPhone lineup from the iPhone 8 at 450 dollars, all the way up to the pro max 64 gigs is still the standard option which, in my opinion, covers your bases. Most people can fit their storage on that. However, if you're not trying to save money on this phone, Apple and you're, just going all the way swap out, the chip include a 128 gig, so you could at least size the people complaining about it, which aren't really me, but I still admit, Apple should take that into consideration next year anyway. That summarizes my criticisms.

I still really love using this phone, not looking forward to testing out some other phone later in the year, because I love using this I have a very high screen time on it. I'm addicted to this thing, I need help I'm, seeing a therapist about it and I hope you all need therapy too in the best possible way. This is your Apple shape here and midnight green. Isn't that good-looking take care.
