iPad Air 2019 vs iPad Pro 10.5" | Which is the BETTER Value? (2020)

Another week, another iPad comparison today, we're gonna, be comparing the iPad Pro 10.5 inch in the iPad Air, 2019 or iPad Air 3, as it's known um. Although these devices look very similar, they have many important distinctions that I want to go over today, but before we continue, I'd really appreciate it. If you'd leave a like on this video comment, if you have any questions, suggestions or opinions as the YouTube algorithm likes that and will help push my content to more people first and foremost in regard to design both of these iPads are pretty much identical in their form factor and dimensions. They have the same six millimeter, thickness and button placements. The only difference is that you can see are in the color here, as you can see, with the iPad Air 3, you get a darker Space Gray versus with the iPad Pro 10.5 inch. You get this more silvery space great.

You can also see that the camera bumps look different. We have just a single sensor right here with the iPad Air 3 and a bigger camera sensor, with a flash on the iPad Pro 10.5. Another major difference is with the speaker setups on the iPad Air 3. You just get to down firing stereo speakers which offer pretty decent sound quality, but they lack the fullness that the iPad Pro 10.5 inch has, which I'll demonstrate in a minute here with the sound test. But, as you can see, with the iPad Pro 10.5, we have a total of four drivers on all four of the corners of this device and let's do a little speaker test. So I can show you what I mean here.

Here's the air three and here's the pro 10.5 so, in my opinion, I think that the iPad Air 3 might have better sound quality, maybe in some aspects, but the iPad Pro 10.5 inch just sounds so much better because you're just getting more volume more surround. If you will so this quad speaker setup is definitely better for listening to music and consuming other media to quickly talk about biometrics or unlock both of these iPads packed touch. I'd second iteration, which is equally fast and accurate on both, and I'll, also quickly mention that both of these devices charge via lightning. Unlike the third generation iPad pros, which charge via a USB type-c and both of these devices do have the smart connector, which allows you to connect to Apple smart keyboard, another smart, connector, oriented accessories. Next up.

Let's talk displays here and in regard to image quality. Both of these panels here are equally bright and sharp. They have the same resolution not to mention the same size. It's in the name, iPad Pro 10.5 inch. So this is a ten point.

Five inch display and the air three packs the same display, although its name doesn't really indicate that, and speaking of this ten point, five inch form factor. It's big enough to do work in play. It's very similarly sized to the current gen iPad for 11 inches, which I have gotten a lot of work done on. So you can do a lot of you know, multitasking and such comfortably and, of course, use the Apple Pencil on both of these displays. Allow you to do that.

Of course, the iPad Pro would because that's kind of what it's about, but this is where the commonalities and in regard to refresh rate, it's a whole different story, we're locked at 60 Hertz with the iPad Air 3, which does offer a nice smooth, 60fps experience, especially with the a12 processor. But with the iPad Pro 10.5 inch, you get a beautiful 120 Hertz display from Apple. They call this feature pro motion and damn, even though this iPad is technically not as powerful, which we'll go over later in this video. It feels faster simply because of this refresh rate, and this is something that I really enjoy about this device and, of course the same goes for the third gen iPad pros and yeah when you're scrolling and is opening apps and just going through the animations. This device just feels faster, I guarantee you.

If you just put these iPads in front of two average consumers- and you didn't tell them- you know which one was newer. They would point at this one because the refresh rate does make that much of a difference, and this especially makes a difference when you're writing and drawing with the iPad Air 3, the 60 Ritz. Does the job like you're not going to like not enjoy your time taking notes or drawing with this tablet, but with the iPad Pro with any 120 heart's display for that matter. It's just so much nicer, because the lack of latency just makes it feel so much more natural and satisfying here it feels like you are really connecting with the pixels versus with this. It does feel like you're, interacting with a piece of tech.

If you know what I mean, like to be higher refresh rate, just offers a much smoother experience, obviously, and if you're doing a lot of writing and drawing, then this might be something that you should prioritize next up. Let's talk about battery life here and right off the bat I'm going to say it. iPad air 3 already wins because I charged both of these to 100% for this test- and you can already see here my iPad Air 3- is at 95% in my iPad 7.5 inches at 88%, so standby time and just overall screen on time is better with this device. For several reasons, number one: it is a more power efficient processor, a 12 is newer. A 10x is older.

This consumes more power. This consumes less power and also refresh rate does make a difference. While it's a beautiful experience with the iPad Pro 7.5- and you are sacrificing some battery life here, whereas this is locked at 60, and it doesn't draw as much power. So the display in the processor are less power efficient than those found in the iPad Air 3 and also since the iPad Air 3 is being offered new you're not going to really run into any battery degradation. Whereas with this is a two-year-old device.

I bought this off of somebody who had used it and, of course, degraded the battery over time, so standby time and overall screen on time is not going to be 100% of what it once was, but at the end of the day, I do believe that both of these iPads will get you through a whole day. Of course, the air three and then some but I, don't think I'd have a problem using the iPad Pro 10 point. Five inches in place of my twelve point: nine inch, which doesn't get amazing patter life to begin with, in my college, note-taking and just general usage next up. Let's talk about the camera setups in both these devices, and they are massively different here, different sensors. First, you have an 8 megapixel, pretty bare-bones sensor with the iPad Air 3 versus a larger 12 megapixel sensor, with a flash on the iPad Pro 10.5 inch um. This is good for 1080p video.

This is good for 4k video and, of course, the flash has its own utility, especially when you're taking pictures in the dark like, for example, if I'm taking a picture of like a piece of paper at school I, do find the flash very useful in like less lit areas, whereas with this you're, just going to get grainy images in low light, but despite their very different back camera setups the front camera setups are pretty much identical. In fact, if you were to do a repair I'm, pretty sure that you would just replace either of these front-facing cameras with the same module. Both of these iPads have seven megapixel front facing cameras with you know front flash the screen will illuminate if you want it to so image. Quality when you're video chatting or taking selfies should be identical so yeah. If camera setup is important to you, if I had videography and photography makes a difference in your life, then definitely consider the iPad Pro 10.5 inch or a newer iPad, because it will have a superior sensor with superior a resolution. In regard to video and of course the addition of a flash is very useful as well and last, but certainly not least, let's talk about for experience and performance here, and this is kind of surprising to me, although the Geek bench scores are definitely different, there's about a 300 point, difference in multi-core and single core scores with both these devices.

Of course, as we know, single core scores, kind of dictate, everyday task, performance and multi-core scores dictate heavier tasks like video, editing and gaming. But in my own personal experience you know gaming and navigating through the UI. Both are equally smooth and, of course, the iPad Pro 10.5 inch feels even smoother with its high refresh rate display, as I said, and also fun fact. The iPad Pro 10.5, and just despite the fact that it has an inferior processor, has an extra gigabyte of RAM because after all, it is an iPad Pro. So four gigs of ram here versus three gigs, so in theory the iPad Pro 10.5 and should offer smoother multitasking performance. It should be able to keep more apps open at one time but yeah.

In my experience, apps open up pretty much equally quickly, maybe a split second delay with the iPad Pro 10.5 inch, but once again the refresh rate does make up for any lack of performance. Here, if you are doing you know video editing with like, let's just say, a Lima fusion here, and you're editing like 4k, video, obviously render speeds and just maybe overall playback performance. It's going to be better with the iPad Air 3, because the 812 is superior and has a better internal, GPU etc. But you know you might have some benefits with the extra RAM here, but talking about what I do you know like note-taking with notability or good notes, um the performance on both should satisfy you either way and, of course, on the lower latency display with the iPad Pro 10.5 inch would be even more desirable if you're doing a lot of writing once again and let's quickly talk about gaming performance here, although I can't demo both of these at once, at least with Call of Duty mobile, what I can tell you are, although the iPad Pro 10.5 and takes a bit longer to load the game, it is downloading something here by the way. So it's not like a huge difference.

Um frame rates and just graphic quality is very similar. I was happy playing the game on both of these. Maybe this game is well optimized, but I played Minecraft and other games too, and I got the same kind of vibe that the 8nx does push a nice experience, despite the fact that it is 2 years old, maybe not as well as the iPad Air 3. But honestly I couldn't really tell the difference. So, if you're into gaming 2- and you do want all that comes with the iPad Pro 10.5 inch- I wouldn't be too concerned, the 8nx will perform to suit your needs. Even in 2020, and I'll say this again, the refresh rate makes the iPad Pro feel faster than it actually is, especially like, for example, when scrolling some people say like oh there's, no difference in scrolling.

There definitely is I'm, seeing it right here. This just feels so much more buttery and satisfying and yes, navigating through the UI just feels so much nicer and more buttery, with the iPad Pro 10.5 and just despite its older hardware, and that about wraps things up here. I hope this video was helpful, and I hope it opened up your eyes to the very impressive and cheaper iPad Pro 10.5 inch. So definitely consider this device if you're choosing between these two I'd really appreciate it once again, if you leave a like on this video comment, if you have any questions, suggestions or opinions and subscribe for more content like this and as always, I'm, Noah and I will catch you all in the next one. This is what I have to deal with.

I can't work, Oh, kids, hey! No! You can't! You cannot be here right now! No I! Can you like that she knows? I have to work here, so she just does this. She does this like at least once a week.
