Google Pixel and Pixel XL review

You've seen them you've heard all about them, and now you're about to see a lot more of them. It's the Google pixels, the pixel and pixel excel are truly smartphones made by Google and, yes, they might have faces. Only a mother could love, but few phones have parents ready to back them up with a multi-million dollar ad campaign, but are they any good because they don't come cheap, stick around as we try to find out, so we have two phones from the company that was able to successfully create a competing operating system. ? Apple's, iOS Google is an internet era veteran in many ways, and it's only now making its baby steps in Hardware. This time around, though Google made its own hardware to compete directly with the iPhone and its first attempt may not be that pretty, but neither did the T-Mobile g1 and look at where we are now in mobile landscape. The pixel and pixel XL really lack a flashy kind of hardware, and they're made out of smooth and slippery aluminum.

That feels great, but it makes you just want to throw in the case as soon as you pull it out of the box. The two models differ mainly in their size, but they cost just as much as the iPhones do down to the exact change, but enough about similarities. Here's what Google has done differently. Pixels have their fingerprint reader on the back, which a lot of people find more comfortable to use. The sensor is pretty fast, and it's actually a little quicker than the iPhone sevens.

The pixels come with the latest USB connector on the bottom, and they do have the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, but aren't we over that already? All other Android phones have them well, most of them do and what the pixels don't have, though, is stereo speakers by comparison. The iPhone 7 has stereo speakers as well as the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 6p back then, but don't worry because the speaker is pretty loud, and you'll be able to hear your favorite YouTubers loud and clear. Your Samsung releases, a new flagship phablet of the full and every year has Samsung's best display mass camera and performance. The pixels also don't have serious waterproofing their only IP 53 certified, so using one in the rain would be just fine if you get caught in a rainstorm on the phone as there is basic moisture resistance, but no pool parties for these two. That's for sure.

Both pixel phones have some great OLED screens and the vividness of color and the deep blacks are pretty much like Samsung's what they look like on their top smartphones. These days, they do feel a little over the top at first, but you'll get used to them real quick. The pixel has a 1080p screen and the pixel XL has a quad HD screen, but we find both of them equally sharp. Granted. We haven't used them where it really matters, though in VR, when it comes to screen brightness they're brighter than most phones, but they're, not as bright as some other flagship phones like the Galaxy S7 or the iPhone 7.

As you can guess, one of the defining features of the pixel phone is its software. The pixels have the latest Android operating system, that's nougat, 7.1, a brand-new exclusive UI to make them stand out, and finally, the Google Assistant, Google's, artificial intelligence. Algorithms have come a long way and the assistant is arguably better than Siri in knowing what topic you're talking about and in what context you're seeing them. It's also more vocal than serious and would gladly speak out answers. Why did the chicken cross the road? There are millions of search results for that, which is a lot of chickens.

You think they carpooled ha ha ha ha ha battery life is an important aspect of the user experience, and we're glad to share that at least the bigger pixel XL. Do not disappoint us on a smaller phone battery. Life was not as good but still acceptable, and, finally, we've saved the best part for last camera performance, it's as if Google spent most of its research and development and time into perfecting the pixels' camera, because it's a perfect example of great Hardware paired with great software. The camera's HDR mode is turn on by default and there's no performance penalty to using it all the time it does an excellent job of clearing photos. It's not only dynamic range.

It also helps in producing brighter colors, less noise and bitchiness more detail and, of course, overall cleaner images, the pixels below the iPhones out of the water in terms of colors and image quality for both the front and rear cameras. The electronic stabilization system works tremendously well in stabilizing the pixels 4k videos. Of course, it's not all sunshine and roses. Low-Light images are still a challenge at times, and the automatic white balance tends to change minds quite often, and images from one and the same spot can end up looking dramatically different. So there you have if it's time to draw the line.

The pixel phones are great, but for a first attempt, Google could have done a better job in design and top features of its top smartphones if it wanted to sell them in huge numbers. The truth is the competition. Have you overall, better smartphones this year, the pixels are not the market disrupted that everyone was hoping they would be, so they're not going to take the world by storm overnight. Early adopters would rave about them, but there's no way that Google Pixel phones will be able to outpace the iPhone 7, at least not in the first year, and it looks like global- is fine with that. Thanks for watching and check out our detailed pixel reviews at GSM, Arena calm, you.
