Google Pixel 6 - GOOD NEWS

So after putting the polarizing Pixel 4 behind it, Google returned to form with the Pixel 5. With the handset, Google offered a well-rounded and affordable flagship phone. Some of you may not consider the Pixel 5 as a flagship phone considering it has a mid-range Snapdragon processor. But the mere definition of the flagship is the best product a company produces. So for Google, the Pixel 5 was the best smartphone they produced last year and hence was a flagship product. So with the good reception of their last flagship phone, all eyes now are on the follow-up, the Pixel 6 as well as the Pixel 6 XL.

Yes, the XL model is returning this year which is based on the leaked codenames. "Raven," which is seemingly the Pixel 6 XL, will reportedly be accompanied by a device named "Oriole", which is believed to be the Pixel 6. Anyway, we have new information that reveals Google is bringing the latest hot feature on smartphones today to their Pixel lineup. The Editor in Chief of XDA Developers Mishaal Rahman says that Google is testing support Ultrawideband chip on Raven which is believed to be the Pixel 6 XL. So Google will be the third smartphone company to include this UWB chip on their smartphones.

It's good to see its growing adoption, with Apple, Samsung and now Google committing to the technology. In my opinion, the potential of the UWB is huge. In the near term, such technology can be used to help you find lost items with your phone and more easily share photos and other files with nearby smartphones. Samsung is also enabling this chip to unlock your car with just your phone. But over the long term, it could serve as an important foundational technology that may set the stage for newer features and use cases, such as powering new augmented reality apps that require more precise location awareness.

Or it could transform your phone into a remote control for managing nearby home appliances simply by pointing your phone rather than launching an app or menu. UWB could switch your TV from your child's Netflix profile to yours. Your smart speaker could give calendar alerts only for the people in the room. Your laptop could wake up when you enter the home office. I'm just giving some basic examples.

It can do complex tasks as well. All told, UWB isn't necessarily a flashy new feature that will end up being a must-have in future phones, but it'll be doing the behind-the-scenes work inside your phone to power features that will become important as we end up using our phones in different ways. It's much like the way advances in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC have made it possibles to use our phones as digital wallets and controls for our smart home gadgets and wearable devices. So I'm happy that Google is also taking the initiative to make this technology big and widespread. And here's hopeful that other companies start including it in their phones as well.

With that being said, we’ve yet to see any reliable leaked renders for the Pixel 6. As such, we have no real idea of what it looks like. However, there are a few things we know like it will have a centered hole punch cutout and the fingerprint scanner will be embedded under the display. Google is also making their first custom silicon named GS101, which is reportedly a joint venture between Google and Samsung built on a 5nm process. Google is keeping their I/O event on May 18th so it's possible We may get to hear something about it at the event.
