TCL 20 S Review | $249 1080P OLED, 64MP Camera, Snapdragon 665, Headphone Jack, microSD

What is going on guys welcome to Gretel's TV. This is the TCL 20s. This is their mid-tier phone out of all they're the three models that they released. Um so and all three have different specs, and I've done an unboxing of all three phones in a single video I'll link that video down below, and I've also done, videos on the 20 pro and the 20s e and obviously now the 20s. So you can watch all those videos everything's linked in the description. If you want to watch those videos, let's run through the specs real quick on this 20s phone, so you'll see you can pause it at any moment.

Basically, some key specs on this is 6.67 dodge AMOLED 1080p plus display you're, getting a Qualcomm snapdragon 665, along with 128 gigs of ram and four gigs of storage. You'll, also get a memory, uh micro, SD card expansion, storage on here as well. If you need more storage, here's the design with the four cameras on the back. You get your headphone jack at the top, which is always nice to see in all three models of the TCL 20 series. Phones have a headphone jack.

You have your dedicated Google Assistant a button on the side here which is not customizable on the 20s. It is on the 20 pro, but on the 20s and the 20se, it's not customizable at the time of making this video. You also have your power button right here and sorry, your volume keys, and then you have your power button that also acts as a fingerprint sensor, which you can see which works fairly. Well, the one on my galaxy s, z, fold two does work better than this one, but I don't mind, and I do pre. I actually do prefer the fingerprint sensor to be on the side here at the bottom.

You get your speakers, along with the USB charging port. Here's the software when you swipe over for the left you're going to get your Google feed. So you can search things on Google run your Google Assistant sign in and out of different google accounts, but ultimately have your little Google News feed, and then you have your home screens here TCL when you press and hold you're going to get the ability to change your wallpapers. Here's your wallpapers, you can change and choose which ones you want very simply and hit done, and now that's my wallpaper and then also within here oops. You also have themes, so you can add themes if you want not a lot a ton of things, but basically a round style square style and freestyle.

Basically, it has to do with the icons so it, and you know it changes the colors ever so slightly. You also have your widgets, like you would on any other android phone and then, lastly, you have your home settings. You can do change the grid size if you want to have bigger and smaller amounts of apps. Furthermore, you know, however, you want it to be set when you're done just hit apply, and then you also just go back in there real quick. It does have some more settings.

Let me go over here to bring it up, you can add icons and recent apps google feed turn that on and off fill empty cells. If you wouldn't so that everything kind of matches up, you can also change your launcher here. You can change it to the simple launcher which makes it easier to use the phone. So if you have, if you're giving this like a parent or somebody- and you want to really simplify the usage of the phone change it to the simple launcher- and it will really uh make the phone a lot easier to use swiping down here's your quick toggles. So you have all your quick toggles to take screenshots.

There's a screenshot one. There's a flashlight one! There's a not vision button that helps improve the look and feel of the display. Overall swiping up will show you your app launcher and there's you can do all kinds of different ways you can sort by name. You can label it. You can do usage by installation by icon color by category, so it's kind of cool.

So if I do icon color it matches all, for instance, all the yellow ones, all the whites, all the blues, all that kind of stuff. So it's actually kind of cool that they give you so many options to sort your icons, and it's very smooth going into settings. You can add emergency information. You can optimize your phone for styles, wallpapers and more. Furthermore, you have your Wi-Fi.

If you want to turn that on and off you have Bluetooth sim card and cellular network information and uh sim card, so this phone is compatible with GSM networks, so in America any network that runs off of at tor T-Mobile or one of those pre-paid carriers that runs off of GSM as well. You also have your display, so you come into display. Like I was shown, you can set your brightness levels. You can set your dark light mode. Brightness, give dark mode, eye comfort, mode, sleep mode.

You know to make the screen go off at a certain time. I have it set for 30 minutes, or you can even set to never. So it's nice that you can, if you never want to, have it go off, you can always have it. So it's on auto rotate screen. You have your not vision like I was saying so.

Basically, it kind of gives you a what it does. It gives you a show if it's on and off it got basically mike makes the colors uh brighter more vibrant, and I would recommend using it because who wouldn't want a brighter, more vibrant, looking screen. Overall, you also have your sound and vibrations and notifications, buttons and gestures. You can come in here, and you have your system navigation, so you feel like if you want to get rid of the know three, the buttons at the bottom. You can use gestures like almost like the iPhone does.

If you're coming from an iPhone, we swipe up and hold to see a recent app swipe up to go home, so you can turn on that kind of stuff. You can also do your gestures, so you have gestures in here, so you can do three finger screenshots. You can also do your split screen gesture, and you can also do double tap to wake up and wake the phone there. Furthermore, you also have your power key button, so you can have that and a call if you want, or if you press and hold it you can have it do different things as well, such as bring up the menus of a Google Pay and see your smart home buttons and stuff like that. Going back into here.

You also have advanced features, advanced features. You can see you have you can remotely lock the phone? Furthermore, you can do fingerprint quick launch so, if you're pressing that you can choose certain things on there. So if I turn that on, I can have it turn on my flashlight or take a note. So it's well-thought-out software. Ultimately, on here screen recorder, you can choose some different settings for it but, like I say, very well-thought-out software to easily use the phone, but it doesn't get clunky.

This is one of my favorite skins on android, just because they don't add a lot of junk that you don't need and want, and it's simple to find it. So I'm very happy with that also updates. I just got an update with this phone. I've had this phone for, I think, over a week this time, but two weeks I've had this phone um and I just got an update, got the first update so that updated the phone. As for bloatware, you don't really get a lot of bloatware on these TCL phones, which is nice to come, unlocked.

So really the only apps that you're going to get generally are a Google apps a couple of TCL apps and then, if there is any, you know extra apps that you didn't want like. I didn't install Netflix, but I can press and hold it. I can go into app info and for I can only disable this one. Furthermore, I guess, but there are I've, seen games on some other TCL phones and those have uh uninstalled easily and without issue, but looks like that one's going to stay on there, but most people have Netflix anyway. So I guess it doesn't really matter and the grand scheme of things couples other things about this phone.

It does not wirelessly charge, so you can't wirelessly charge this phone. I always say it: I'm not a huge wireless charging fan. It's nice that phones have it and a go-to thing, but ultimately you don't really need it and also the IP rating really isn't anything. Either you're not going to go swimming with this phone. So I wouldn't go crazy with that.

Next, let's bring up the camera software on here. So you got your camera and uh. You can see you have a bunch of modes, you go into more! You have your panorama, your stop-motion, your light trace mode, which I'll show you right here, real quick. It kind of. Does these like it captures the light, all kind of cool and artistically back into more.

You have your super macro mode. You have slo-mo. Furthermore, you have high pixel mode. If you turn that on you'll capture up to a 64 megapixel photo, you have auto mode your video mode with video. If you come in here, you can set video quality up to 4k on the back camera and on the front camera.

We'll just switch this around, and then we'll go into settings. Video quality on the front. Camera also goes to 4k. So for like what 250 bucks you're getting a 4k camera on the front and the back of this phone, so it's really, really cool electronic image. Stabilization you're not going to get optical image stabilization.

So just remember that and then also remember when you get when you use this phone, if you put a SD card in, you can store your photos on the SD card, which is nice, you have your portrait mode, you have super night mode and pro mode. So if you want to shoot with pro settings to control the ISO and all of those settings, white balance autofocus any of that stuff, you have full controls again. This is a 250 dollar phone. Samsung's phones have this, and they are way more expensive than this phone is and to get all those controls for. This is truly, truly amazing, video with the TCL 20s.

So you get an indication of what the microphone sounds like and the camera looks like when I walk around a little, I'm sweating, it's so hot in my office. Right now so see what I do for you guys with the sweating and the videos, but this is how it looks and sounds. Let me know how you think it looks. Here's the rear-facing camera I'm walking around my little office here, so you can get an indication again of how the microphone sound on this side and the cameras react with in terms of the quality of the video in 4k and also the stabilization of the video. Let me know next: let's open up a video, so you can get the idea of what a video looks and sounds like so here we go.

I'm going to choose one of my videos here. Why don't we choose one of the uh TCL videos, so I'll click on my name go to videos, and then I'll choose one of my TCL phone videos? What is going on guys welcome to Gregor's TV. This is the tcl20 SE. It is literally 189.99 very, very inexpensive phones compared to 88 gigabytes of storage on board accurate. The only thing I am not in love with it is I do wish it was a little more of an indent to use it.

It's very flush with the display on the back there. It's not uh, you know it doesn't have like a drop or there's no indentation. Really it's a plastic phone, so it seems like. Let me just make sure, there 's they're all there are two speakers. Speakers aren't overwhelmingly powerful they're, not very loud you're, getting a 250 phone.

You can't expect everything the display overall, I have it pretty low in terms of brightness right now you can see. I have it probably at about 35 or 40 percent. This display does get nice and bright. The angles on the display aren't definitely aren't as good as the pro, but they seemingly seem better than the SE, and they should be because this um, you know it- is a high resolution, display it's a better display. Overall, let me just make sure it's playing at 720p, but I can play videos in up to 4k and this helps show you with I'll show you anyway, hopefully we'll see if it plays in 4k.

So it looks like it does. It does struggle a little on 4k videos, so I probably wouldn't watch 4k videos on here, but this isn't even a 4k screen. Anyway, let's go to advanced again, let's go to 1440, see if that plays okay. So for so you can play this in 2k. You can see TK's 2k video is playing absolutely fine, but 4k seemingly does struggle a little next, let's also bring up, let's get out of here and let's bring up just some social media apps just so you can see how those apps run on here, I'll open up Instagram loads up.

Here we go there we go, and then we got you know just running through this. It loads up fairly fast for the most part, slides right through all that feed without really any so there you go we'll click on what we click on secret labs here. So no problems with you know clicking on stuff and viewing it will open up twitter's already open for me, but we'll refresh the feed a little, we'll click on we'll see. Who should we, who should we bless with our presence of visiting their page? How about my friend tech, odyssey, we'll bring up tech odyssey? Look at his tweets, look at his tweets and replies his media. So all that looks great uh.

This phone does not have 5g, so you won't be able to get 5g speeds on here, which is not the end of the world.5G is not everywhere.5G speeds are pretty comparable at times to LTE in some cases are even slower, so you know don't be, don't be worried that this does not have 5g. It's definitely not. The end of the world. LTE is going to be here for a very long time, and this is a very inexpensive phone as it is, so I wouldn't worry too much about it, and then we'll jump into a subway surfers game here, just to check how the performance of this is with the snapdragon 665, four gigs of ram, 128, gigabytes of storage, and it's running. It really, really well flick it over there flick it back, flick it to the right and then flick it back to the middle and um.

So if you want to play games like this, oh double top there we go. Oh, we're rocking or subway surfing. So if you wanted to play a game like this, you shouldn't have any problem with. It runs very, very well, subway, surfers on the TCL 20 s. Here we go.

Oh, I died. Oh no, I didn't die. Oh, the guy's catching up to me. Oh, I try to trick him, I'm doing so good. I think this might be the best.

I always say this is the best I've ever played in this game, but I truly, this might be the best I've ever played on this game. Ah, I didn't make it, but there you go burns really, really well on this phone. So who is this phone for? I TCL phones, I in a general sense, are for especially the s and the SE are for people that want a phone. That's smart, don't want to pay a lot, but they want a decent, solid experience, and I think this again does that for people that want it, it's unlocked, so you can use it on any GSM carrier, T-Mobile and 18 interiors there's only three carriers here in the United States. Unless you go pre-paid, then there's more, but they ultimately use the same three carriers.

Everyone else uses and you choose one of those- and this is a great for phone for that it's plastic on the back, so it doesn't feel like. Oh my gosh. It feels like the most premium phone, but since this plastic has a 5 000 William battery you're going to get good battery life. It feels fairly light in your hand, not the lightest one. I've ever felt the screen looks good um out of this and the SE.

I would choose this one just because of the better display on there and the better speakers slightly better camera like this is just a slightly better phone, so you can afford you know 60 70, more dollars get this phone. Furthermore, I think you'll enjoy this phone a little more um, but yeah. That's it! If you, what do you tell me what you guys think about it in the comments down below, and I'll see you guys down the road.
