Google Pixel 5 VS Samsung Galaxy S20 - Camera Comparison

What's happening everyone, my name is Alex and welcome back for this camera comparison. We have the latest one from Google, the pixel 5 and the highly popular Samsung Galaxy s20, one of the latest phones from Samsung. Now the camera systems on the back of these two devices are a bit different from mostly because on the back of the s20, we have a telephoto lens, something that we don't have on the back of the pixel 5. So keep that in mind. So, throughout this video, I'm going to show you a bunch of daytime pictures, I've included portrait mode pictures. I've also included some zoom pictures taken with the ultra-wide lens um.

Of course, we're gonna check out some nighttime pictures, and for that I use the night modes on both devices, sample videos and, of course, selfies, and with that being said, let's start by checking out some portrait mode pictures alright. So after looking at the portrait mode, pictures that I took just as I was expecting, the pixel 5 does seem to retain the original colors much better than the Samsung Galaxy s20. If you look at my girlfriend's face or my daughter's face um, you can definitely see more details in the pictures taken by the pixel 5, where on the pictures taken by the s20, those some pictures almost have like a beautifying filter, and you can't really see anything on their faces anymore. So for that the pixel 5 does better. But looking at the edge detection around the subject, the s20 seems to do better in every single picture.

So I wish we could combine these two. So we can get the perfect picture because, like this, none of the pictures were that great in my opinion. But what do you guys think? Do you prefer the portrait mode pictures from the pixel or from the Samsung Galaxy s20 definitely leave a comment down below and let me know all right, we're moving on to zoom pictures and for zoom pictures? I did five times zoom and since we have a telephoto lens on the back of the Samsung Galaxy s20. Well, pretty much all the pictures are sharper and much better taken by the Samsung Galaxy s20. So for datum, the s20 wins in my opinion, and we are moving on to pictures taking the ultra-wide lenses on the back of these two devices.

Well, the first thing I've noticed here is how much wider the field of view on the s20 is compared to the pixel 5. So you can definitely see way more in those pictures taken by the s20 now for sharpness. I feel that the s20 does a bit better than the pixel 5, but for color accuracy. Once again, the pixel 5 does a bit better in my opinion, but if you do like your pictures, um to look a bit more saturated, more vibrant and basically more Instagram, ready, you're, probably gonna, prefer the pictures taken by the Samsung Galaxy s20. So once again definitely leave a comment down below and let me know on which pictures you like forum, the ultrawide lens, the ones taken by the s20 or the ones taken by the pixel 5.

As for all the other pictures, so pictures taken with the main lenses on the back of these two devices, the color saturation trend continues for the pictures taken by the s20. So once again, if you do like those more saturated, colors pictures that don't pop a bit more you're, probably going to prefer the pictures from the s20. But me personally, I do prefer the original colors that show up in the pictures taken by the pixel 5. When I see the pictures taken by the pixel 5, it kind of reminds me of that particular scene where I was taking pictures. So, at least in my opinion, the pictures from the pixel 5 are better, but once again take a look at these pictures that you have side by side and decide for yourself and let them everyone knows in the comments down below which one you prefer, and next we are going to move on and check out some pictures that I took at night.

Of course, the s20 and the pixel 5 and, as I mentioned earlier for all the nighttime pictures that you're about to see, I use the night modes on both devices. So the first set of pictures that you're, seeing or taking the ultra-wide lenses on the back of these two devices and then, when you're using the ultrawide lens, you can also use a night mode with both devices. Now here there is no comparison. I feel that every single picture that I took with the s20 with the ultra-wide lens in the night mode is better. The pictures are sharper, they have less noise, so overall um.

There is no comparison for that. Now, moving on to pictures taken with the main lenses, so once again with the night mode and the main lenses, the pictures do look somewhat similar. The sharpness is similar, even though in some pictures the s20 does seem to do a bit better. Now, color wise, the pixel 5 does retain the colors a bit better, so the s20 does make the pictures a bit too yellow for my taste and in reality nothing looks that that yellow, but for the picture quality and considering there is less noise in the pictures taken by the s20. I have to say that the s20 did better with the main lens as well.

For nighttime pictures, but once again check out the pictures that um you're seeing on the screen and definitely leave a comment down below and let them everyone knows on your thoughts about the nighttime pictures that I took next, we are going to move on and check out some sample recordings that I've done with these two devices now for 4k at 30 frames per second, the video quality is very similar. Even the image stabilization is pretty similar, so the pixel 5 has finally caught up with the Samsung Galaxy line, because that wasn't the case up until this year now for microphone recordings. If you listen carefully, all the recordings from the pixel 5 have like a hissing noise behind them in the previous camera comparison that I've done between the pixel 5 and the iPhone 11. I thought that was the wind noise, but it's definitely not wind noise. I can't really change that video that I already made, but all the sound recordings from the pixel 5 do seem to have that hissing noise.

In the background, so all the sound recordings from the s20 do seem better. In my opinion, for 4k at 60 frames per second, I feel that the s20 does better as for nighttime recordings. Well, none of them does that great. So I can't really say that one is better than the other one. So I'll, let you guys check out those sample recordings, and I will be right back all right.

This is a quick video recording between the pixel 5 and, of course, the Samsung Galaxy s24. This is recording I'm doing 4k at 30 frames per second and, of course, at this resolution, both devices have image stabilization and both devices can also record them in 4k at the 60 frames per second we're just going to cross the street here, so now you can see how the image stabilization works on both of them. We're going to turn right, and we're going to stop somewhere here, and we'll pan left slowly and back right, so yeah. This is our recording in 4k at 30 frames per second between the pixel 5 and the Samsung Galaxy s20 would look like keep in mind that it is a bit windy, and we also have a lot of traffic um around us next. We are moving on to a quick recording with a front-facing cameras on the pixel 5 and, of course, on the Samsung Galaxy s20.

Now the Samsung Galaxy s20, you can record in 4k at 60 frames per second with a front facing camera, whereas with a pixel 5, you can only do 1080p at 30 frames per second, for this particular recording I'm doing 4k at 30 frames per second with the Samsung Galaxy s20. So I'm just going to walk a bit faster, so you can see how the image stabilization would work um under these conditions. It's also a bit windy and there are a lot of cars around me, as you can probably see so a lot of noise. Aside from my voice but yeah. This is how recording, with the front-facing cameras on the pixel 5 and, of course, the Samsung Galaxy s20 would look like for our next recording between the pixel 5 and the Samsung Galaxy s20.

I am recording in 4k at 60 frames per second, of course, at this resolution both devices have um image stabilization, so we're going to walk this way. I'm also going to do a bit of running, so you can see which device does better while running so run towards this. We'll go up these stairs, and we'll stop here. We're gonna pan left slowly, and I guess we'll just walk straight. So this is our recording in 4k at 60 frames per second between the pixel 5 and the Samsung Galaxy s20 would look like, and we also have a super quick sample using the super, steady image, stabilization on the s20 and the active image stabilization on the pixel 5.

So for this I'm just going to go running so yeah. This is how recording would look like if you are using the active image stabilization on the pixel 5 and the super steady on the Samsung Galaxy s20 all right. This is a quick video test between the pixel 5 and the Samsung Galaxy s20, for this recording I'm doing 4k at 30 frames per second, and I'm using the main lenses on the back of these two devices. So we're going to stop somewhere around here, I'm gonna pan right slowly. We have a bus coming, so I'll move back a bit, and then we'll pan left, and we'll keep walking this way.

So this is how recording in 4k 30 frames per second would look from these two devices in low light and for our second recording between the pixel 5 and the Samsung Galaxy s20. I am using the ultra-wide lenses on the back of these two devices and once again recording in 4k at 30 frames per second, so we're just going to walk this way, we'll stop here for a bit. I can definitely see a bit more on the screen of the pixel file, but again, we'll have to see how this footage actually looks. Um on the computer, so yeah this whole recording would look if you're, using the ultrawide lens and recording in 4k at 30 frames per second and as you've seen for yourself um, the pixel seems to finally have caught up to the video quality on the galaxy s20, but of course, um. There could be improvements for both devices, because I feel that um, the iPhone still does better than uh the s20 and the pixel 5 for video quality, but that's for a different um video.

Next we're going to move on to selfies where for daytime selfies, there is really no comparison. The pixel 5 will do better because the s20 has kind of like a beautifying filter over your selfies. So you don't exactly look uh how you look in reality in the pictures taken by the s20. As for the nighttime selfies, once again, I feel that the pixel 5 does better every single time and both devices have a night mode for um selfies so for nighttime selfies and daytime selfies, the pixel 5 does better. So what do you guys think? Which one do you prefer the s20 or the pixel 5.

Personally, the s20 did much better than I was expecting, except for those overly saturated colors. But I guess you could turn those off if you turn off the scene. Optimizer on the s20, I left the scene optimizer on for the duration of the video, because that's how the phone comes from the box, so definitely leave a comment down below and let me know which phone you prefer and why all right guys. Hopefully you enjoyed this video. If you did like it, don't forget to press that.
