Welcome back everyone time to do another comparison between two budget phones that are actually really, really impressive. So the Google Pixel 4a, which just came out and the OnePlus 4 that also just came out pretty recently. You know it wasn't like the oldest phone ever, but I think it was a little before the Pixel 4a was announced. Now both these phones, like I said, are budget phones at their core they're kind of going for the same demographic kind of, but not really. Now, with the Pixel 4a, it is noticeably cheaper than the OnePlus word, so the OnePlus word is costing about six hundred dollars with taxes and everything the Google Pixel 4a, on the other hand, is costing almost half of that. It costs about 350 dollars to pick up the Google Pixel 4a.
Now that's like not available anywhere like it's. You know kind of being sold out everywhere. The OnePlus note is available outside the US, but you can still pick it up in the America somehow because I got it so if you want to pick up either these for the cheapest prices that I find on Amazon, I'll link them down in the description below, so you can get them from there and help support the channel. At the same time now, starting off with the outside. More specifically the panels, the OnePlus word has a 6.44 inch, fluid AMOLED display it's 1080p, and it's a perfect. Looking panel.
You know, I mean it looks perfect. You have the dual front-facing camera on it: the edge kind of bleeds off to the side, which looks perfect, and it makes this phone feel super premium. The panel itself, I mean how much better can it get than this on a budget phone I mean they can shrink down the bezels. They can make the camera behind the know screen itself, but for sure I'm super content with the OnePlus word and for this price tag I mean it's a budget phone, but compared to the Pixel 4a price. I mean it's a little more expensive, but the OnePlus word.
I think the panel itself is really nice fingerprint sensor within the display. But on top of that you have that 90hz refresh rate on that OnePlus word, which is a really, really cool feature. That is one of my favorite things about the OnePlus word now. Is it a dealbreaker that the Pixel 4a doesn't? Have it not really, but it is still a really cool thing that the OnePlus note has on it. So the front display on the OnePlus note, looks perfect with the Google Pixel 4a has a 5.81 inch OLED display and this one is 1080p, and I think this panel is pretty good too. You know what I mean like it looks much better than I think the pixel 3 I had last year and in terms of the design like it's kind of the same design as the OnePlus word as well.
You know the camera in the top left corner. The OnePlus note has that dual front camera and very little bezel around the whole entire display, but I still want to give the edge to the OnePlus word. I think that phone has the better panel overall, but the pixel 4 ace panels, for the cost that it is, is actually a perfect price tag. I mean it's an OLA display, so it looks perfect. The main thing that it's missing is you know the lack of 90 hertz and maybe a fingerprint sensor within the display that would be really cool, but still I'm really happy with the Pixel 4a display as well.
It just so happens that the OnePlus word probably has the better display when it comes down to it. So in terms of the front-facing display, I'd probably give the edge to the OnePlus word for sure both have USB type-c ports on the bottom, which is really cool. The pixel 48 does have a headphone jack, though, which is really, really awesome. Now me personally, I'm probably not going to use that I really don't care about it anymore, but I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who actually still want to use the headphone jack. The OnePlus note does not have that capability, but the Pixel 4a does, so that's another really cool thing that has going for it and on the back, probably one of the worst parts about the pixel 4.
If, I'm being honest, you have a full on plastic back on the Pixel 4a with a single camera setup. Now the camera sensor is actually pretty good, and I'll get into in a second but the back of it. You know, with that fingerprint sensor on the back is kind of an outdated look. It gives me like nexus five type of vibes, but it's still, okay, I'm still, okay with it, but the OnePlus word has a glass back with a quadruple camera setup. Now the camera setup, I'm okay, with like it's looking like it's a good thing that they put in there, but I wish it was a little better, but the back of the OnePlus door definitely feels more premium than the Pixel 4a.
So I don't want to knock on. You know one phone way too more than the other one, but that is a pretty big deal in my opinion, when you're feeling both phones in the hand the Pixel 4a is noticeably smaller. So if you like a smaller phone, you know that kind of answers. Your question right there, but the OnePlus word feels more premium in the hand. Now.
Sometimes I wish that wasn't completely the case, but it is what it is. I wish there was a bigger pixel, 4a XL. I think that would be really, really cool, but I still think the OnePlus word really knocked out the park in terms of the panel and in terms of the way it feels in the hand. Now both these phones lack wireless charging, which is kind of weird, but on top of that they both like IP certification with the Pixel 4a. Maybe it's a little more understandable, it's unnoticeably cheaper, but with the OnePlus word, I don't know what it is with the OnePlus and not putting IP certification in their phones.
They're not even like super, super cheap like it's not like they're, 100 or 200 dollars like they're, still pretty expensive, but it is what it is. I guess you know it's totally: okay, at the end of the day, but in terms of the phones themselves, I kind of give the edge to the OnePlus word for feeling better in the hand kind of looking better, but the Pixel 4a, for that cheaper price tag is very, very impressive, in my opinion, so in terms of the panels and the body itself that pretty much covers it up now hitting on the software they're, both starting off with android, 10, and they're, both starting off with pretty good versions of android, and I really don't think one phone is going to completely outlast the other one. There is a chance where google is going to lengthen and kind of increase the amount of software updates they're going to improve and kind of send on their phones. So I'll probably say that the OnePlus note in the Pixel 4a will end off around the same time. So it's not like the OnePlus word or the pixel 4 is going to end off.
You know way crazier later than the other one, but another cool advantage of both these phones is that it's pretty easy to custom, ROM and root both of these. So if you want to root one, if you want a custom ROM another one, the capability of doing so, is there, and it's really not that hard. If I'm being honest, so that's a humongous advantage for both of these phones, you can easily go and custom round the Pixel 4a. Eventually, when those ROMs come out and the same exact thing with the OnePlus word once those ROMs come out too. So again, that's not like a huge thing.
I'm sure not a lot of people are going to do it because I always talk about it. Nobody does it, but the option is still there, which is really cool. Now I have said in the past that oxygen OS, I prefer more than stock android, but I feel like that opinion is starting to kind of go away. A little. I've seen a lot of screenshots of like of what auction OS 11 is bringing with android 11.
I'm not really happy about it, but I guess we'll see what happens. Hopefully they don't switch it up like they're showing it to, but with the pixel side, it's always going to be stock. Android they're never going to do anything crazy, which I'm really happy about. So in terms of the software that pretty much covers it up for the most part. Now I did do a speed test between both of these, and I'll show you, while I'm going ahead and talking about the specs.
The Pixel 4a has that Qualcomm snapdragon 730 g chipset outscore CPU, an arena, 618 GPU and six gigs of ram there's only one model of the Pixel 4a that has six gigs of ram where the OnePlus word has a Qualcomm snapdragon, 765g chipset, an outscore CPU and arena 620 GPU, and there are three different models of this phone: a base, six gig model, a mid-tier, eight gig model and then a 12 gig top tier model, and I do have the base model so kind of keep that in mind now in terms of the performance and when I was you know, doing speed tests and all that stuff between them. I don't know if there was a consistent winner every single time. There were some cases where the Pixel 4a was the winner. There were some cases where the OnePlus word was the winner, I would probably say: maybe the OnePlus 9, maybe is the faster one. Overall, maybe the Pixel 4a is.
You know a little faster in some other apps too, but I really don't think one was the way better performing phone between these two and, if I'm being completely honest, I don't think these phones are set to be the know like the budget phone the best performance phones out there, because if you want you to know I would buy like a used, galaxy s20 or like a used pixel 4 or whatever those are probably going to give you the best bang for your buck. In this case I mean you're, definitely getting great performance from both for a budget phone, a price per dollar standpoint. The Pixel 4a may have the better performance. You know price per dollar, but the OnePlus word is a perfect performing phone too, and it might be the faster one. That's why it's a little tricky kind of doing.
You know a price per performance kind of thing, because you know the OnePlus note is twice the cost, but I would probably say that you know the OnePlus word and the Pixel 4a are kind of neck and neck, as you can see from the speed test that I've done whenever I did anything with the Pixel 4a and whenever I did anything with the OnePlus 0, they were both great performing devices like I said I don't think one really one completely over the other one. Maybe there are some advantages for picking up one over the other, but in my opinion I think it's kind of like a split set between both. So in terms of performance, I didn't really see a crazy big performance gap from one to the other, like I said they both were kind of neck and neck. One was beating another one, while the other one was beating the other one, sometimes too so in terms of performance. That pretty much covers it.
Up now hitting on the cameras. The Google Pixel 4a has a single 12.2 megapixel camera lens, where the OnePlus word has a quadruple camera setup, a 48 megapixel wide 8, megapixel ultra-wide 5 megapixel depth sensor, then a 2 megapixel macro lens and both can do 4k 30, which is really great, and this is a funny example, because you know the OnePlus note has more camera sensors, and technically it has more features. So I think that's a really cool thing where the Google Pixel 4a has that single camera setup and I think it's actually a pretty good camera. I think it's a better camera than what people are giving it. I think.
Actually, people are. You know hyping up good with that 12.2 megapixel camera lens. I think it's a better single camera setup than all the camera lenses on the OnePlus word, but I do like the fact of having more options on the OnePlus word. I feel like by having that ultrawide sensor by having that depth lens and the macro lens the last two lenses, I'm never going to use the macro and the depth lens, but having the ultrawide sensor, I think, is a really cool feature and with the Google Pixel 4a, I think that's a perfect lens. So it's really hard to see.
Maybe the Pixel 4a wins in the single camera department, but the OnePlus word wins in that. You know multiple camera department on the front, 32 megapixels on the word, as well as an 8 megapixel ultrawide sensor, where the pixel 4 has a single 8 megapixel lens, and you can do 4k 60 on the front of that one plus normal, which is really cool. The Pixel 4a you tap out of 1080p so again here, I would probably say they're both kind of neck and neck as well. Maybe one doesn't pull the other one out of the water, but maybe the OnePlus word has a better camera setup at the end of the day. So in terms of that, that pretty much covers it up now hitting on the battery life, the Google Pixel 4a has a 3140 millibar battery.
The OnePlus word has a 415 William hour battery, and in this case again I don't know if one is completely the crazier battery life, but I would probably give the edge to the OnePlus word. I feel like that one would probably have the better battery life if they were both not using that 90hz refresh rate, so the 190hz refresh rate is turned off on the OnePlus word, the Pixel 4a. With that 3100 million power battery, I think it was a perfect battery for the most part, but maybe the OnePlus word will probably be the winner there. So and again, these were all my opinions from my usage on both and to kind of sum up the video. I honestly think if you are on a tighter budget, the Google Pixel 4 is a tremendous phone you're going to get software updates for a very long time.
It's great performance, great camera, great screen for the most part, the OnePlus word is a little of a better phone. In my opinion, you're getting more capability, you're, getting more features, you're getting kind of a better camera, maybe, but you're also paying more too and that's another thing. You have to keep in mind. Are you okay, with paying more money for this? If you are, then go for it if you're, not the Pixel 4a is also an option for you too.
