The Pixel 3a XL was the last google branded phone that we reviewed here on edited g, and it wasn't the easiest phone to recommend to people simply because the price to performance ratio didn't make a lot of sense. But with the new Google Pixel 4a, the map seems to add up at thirty-one thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees. It doesn't only get good features, but also gives serious competition to the likes of the OnePlus note, Samsung Galaxy m51 and the VIVO v20, hey guys, I'm Sal you're watching the ex tech show, and this right here is our review for the new Pixel 4a. So the Pixel 4a is the more affordable version of last year's pixel, 4 flagships which didn't arrive in India. It comes with a lot of the same tech, but it does lose out on a few bells and whistles to get that price cut. For starters, the body is polycarbonate and not glass.

The display doesn't get a 90 hertz or 120 hertz high refresh rate just regular 60 hertz there's no wireless charging available. It doesn't feature ip68 water resistance rating, and it's also got a less powerful chipset. I know that sounds like a long list of complaints, but don't let that put you off, because I think the pros totally outweigh the cons. So, let's start with the biggest positive, which ironically happens to be the small form factor at only 5.8 inches. The Pixel 4a doesn't look like a phone that belongs in 2020, but here it is defying big screen convention and giving you a terrific one-handed experience.

It's also really lightweight at 143 grams, mostly thanks to that plastic, build sure, plastic isn't as premium as glass, but the Pixel 4a by no means feels cheap in the hand the polycarbonate rear panel gets a nice matte finish and also keeps fingerprints at bay. Overall, I really like the simplicity that the Pixel 4a brings to the table, both in terms of design and build. Additionally, this phone is no slouch on the utility front either it comes with stereo speakers, an USB type-c charging port, google signature, colored power button and even a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack for those still not willing to embrace the truly wireless lifestyle. Meanwhile, on the back side, you'll find a fingerprint scanner, and it's easily one of the most accurate ones. I've experienced on a smartphone at this price range on the front.

There's a 1080p, FHD plus OLED panel with gorilla glass, 3 protection and a 443 PPI resolution, which is just about bright enough to be used comfortably under direct sunlight. The bezels are uniformly slim all around and while extra large screen lovers may snub their noses at a 5.8 inch display, I had no issues when it came to watching content on it. The newly redesigned hole punch in the upper left corner of the screen is a welcome addition, but it could have been a wee bit smaller. In my opinion, then there's the camera, which is easily the best feature of any Google Pixel phone. Like previous iterations, you won't find a versatile camera setup over here.

In fact, the pixel 4 way skips out on the second telephoto lens that the flagship pixel 4 boasts, but it does manage to retain the same 12.2 megapixel single camera that clicks fantastic images. You can always be assured of excellent depth, great dynamic range and plenty of detail. It just makes photography really easy with simple point and shoot, while most of the heavy lifting is done by the image processing software, something that's very evident when capturing photos after the sun sets google's night sight still happens to be one of the best night modes. I've used on a smartphone. In most cases, the Pixel 4a produced the most accurate colors, while keeping noise to a minimum. Okay, I guess google's mighty AI doesn't get it right all the time, but you can't deny that this phone packs an impressive photography prowess, although keep in mind that having just a single rear lens on a smartphone presents its own limitations, there's no wide angle option. Hence, you can only fit in so much into the frame and while the camera software offers you seven times, digital zoom, the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens means you won't get the most detailed results. As far as video capabilities are concerned, the Pixel 4a offers a decent range of options.

It can shoot 4k, video at 30 frames per second 1080p up to 120 frames per second and 720p up to super slow, 240 frames per second footage shot with the phone came out well enough in good lighting conditions and the optical image. Stabilization does a great job of keeping things very steady, there's also just a single camera on the front of the Google Pixel 4a. It's an 8 megapixel snapper that clicks lively selfies, while the portrait mode offers nice shallow depth of field, but Google's computational algorithm struggled with capturing smooth cutouts for faces against complicated backgrounds. Now that we've got the main highlights out of the way, let's talk about the other things that are as important: the processor battery and software, the Pixel 4a packs in a snapdragon 730 g chip, which is a huge upgrade over the 670 chip used on the Pixel 3a. There's 6 GB of ram as standard and 128 GB storage, there's no micro, SD card slot for memory expansion, but Google is promising 100 GB of free cloud storage for three months.

Day-To-Day performance with this hardware is perfect. Everything felt really snappy, and I didn't experience any lags while scrolling even high graphic gaming performance is great, with no frame drops or heating issues experienced. Although it's hard to predict how well this phone will fare in 3 months, 6 months or even 12 months down the line, I mean. Look: it's no secret that the snapdragon 700 series chips are never going to be as efficient as flagship snapdragon, 800 ones, but then the advantage of having a less powerful processor is that it takes less battery life and that's a good thing over here, because this phone only packs in a small 3140 my battery. In my testing, the Pixel 4a easily made it through a full day with light to medium usage.

This is actually on par with many smartphones that have a bigger battery. You also get fast charging support with 18 watt adapter that ensures a 35 top up in 30 minutes and 80 in roughly 80 minutes. Another important strength for the Pixel 4a is this excellent implementation of software. The latest android 11, combined with zero bloatware and smooth animations, help in delivering an spotless and fluid user experience, plus on top of that, the Pixel 4a is completely future-proof, as google promises a minimum of three major android upgrades, starting with android 11. Okay.

So, let's sum up- and if I had to describe this phone in three words- they'd probably be simple but effective. The Pixel 4a is all about minimalism and maybe a little too much in certain places, but then again you're getting the best that google has to offer at a very affordable price point. I don't know how well this phone will perform in the long run. I've been only using it for 10 days, but in my brief time, with this phone, I'm very impressed, plus it looks pretty darn cute as well.
