Google Pixel 4 XL Unboxing!

Hey everyone Tim Schofield here and I'm here in New York for the Google event where they unveiled a group of new products, including the new pixel 4 and pixel 4 Excel I have the Excel variant right here. We're going to do a full unboxing show of what comes in the box and, of course, the phone itself. Now I actually have a bit of a special unboxing here, because not only do I have the retail box, but also some pizza boxes right here that are actually custom-made for the pixel for itself, including some actual pizza inside. So this will be a fun unboxing to do. Let's go and get started quickly. To start, I want to talk about the difference between the pixel 4 and the XL, because there's a few things that are different.

First, the price with the 4 it starts at $7.99 and the XL variant starts at 899. Now you also get, of course, a different screen size difference, but the pixel fours displays 1080p, whereas the Excel is 1440p, and then you do get a little more battery life on the XL variant compared to the regular. So those are pretty much the main differences. So here is that Pixel 4 XL box from Google I did go with the white coloring. You see it is surrounded with black and an orange button, there's even an orange color and a black coloring as well.

Setting that to the side, though, check out how creative this actually was huge shout out to Google. For this you see power, adapter charging cables, special edition case SIM tool, adapter Quick, Start, Guide, perfect pairing gives you some pixel pop quiz questions to ask just so cool how they really customize this and how thoughtful it was and how much effort actually went into this unboxing experience as a side note if you're ever wondering what I'll look like when I'm 65 Google did a nice illustration for that now. This looks like your standard Domino's pizza box, to see on the bottom here in Google and Domino's. Now it's us a lift here. If you lift there is that phone in some plastic we'll get to that in just a second, but let you know, motion sense, Google Assistant and if you actually do just open it on up, there is pizza inside which, as you can see, I've helped myself to some of it.

So we'll set the phone to the side for now and really show our side orders. Basically, what comes in the box with our Google Pixel 4x out here, is that special edition case right here, just P and a 4 really cool. Actually we're going to set that to the side and show off what actually does come in sim ejection tool, all of our user guides and booklets standard there. We have our 18 watt power, adapter, USB type-c and our USB type-c, the USB, type-c, cable and then finally, another quick adapter, USB type-c, the USB type-a input. Now, let's move on what you all came to see the Pixel 4 XL, let's go ahead and take off this plastic peel that off the display right there and power it on, and while we actually boot this guy up, I'm going to go ahead and take a close look at the hardware of the pixel 4 X out on the bottom of the device.

USB see one of your stereo speakers and moving along the right side. Here you do have a couple volume rockers and that orange button again this is white black and orange coloring up towards the top. You do have a microphone also make note just a very, very slight camera bump with that camera. On the back and speaking of that camera, it is a dual camera system, telephoto and standard wide-angle lens more on that in just a second on the right sides, your SIM card slot and then flipping over to the front. You will see a decent sized forehead.

However, they did actually put a radar chip in the front, so you can actually control your phone with hand, motions, and they have updated their face, unlock more on that in just a second and moving along down towards the bottom is a fairly minimal chin. The pixel four is a 5.7 inch display and the XL has a six point. Three inch display now: I'm going to skip through the setup process and only talk about anything that is no worthy. Like I mentioned, updated, face unlock. We are going to set this up right now.

It says glasses or lightly. Tinted sunglasses are okay, it says, you're a identical sibling might be able to unlock your phone, but overall should be fairly secure. So let's go ahead and set this up I'm going to start it I might have to move my head. Hopefully this is fine. A little of a nice subtle vibration as I'm setting this one more spot.

Turn your head a little less. Okay, sorry, there we go looks good. Now we can actually unlock the phone by just looking at it, and here we are on the home screen of the pixel. For Excel, there are some new features of this device. The camera got a big update, of course, and I'm expecting it to be the best smartphone camera.

Now it does have a standard wide-angle lens, but they have also added a telephoto lens for two times optical zoom, and they even said on stage that they are going with the telephoto lens over the ultra wide-angle lens, which I'm actually a little upset at I, probably rather have ultra wide-angle lens, but we'll see after using it. If I find more use out of the telephoto lens in terms of new features of the camera, you have dual exposure controls. You can have a couple bars pop up and really control the lighting of your shot and there's also learning-based white balance. So it is going to take the shot and say maybe there's actually a red light showing on your face. It's going to say we know your skin tone, isn't that red color, so we're gonna, actually white balance it for you, and I'm actually excited to see how well those shots turn out.

They've added a wider range portrait mode and nitrite has macrophotography as well. So you can kind of get some moon and star shots going. They do recommend that you do have a tripod for those one thing I'm noticing is that the power button and volume rockers on the side are fairly click, so they have a decent amount of tactile feedback to them. Now, there's also some new gestures as well, without even having to touch the phone. You can do things such as reject calls.

You can stop alarms. Furthermore, you can even skip some music. So there's a bunch of use cases for it. So I'm excited to test it out a little further something cool I found in display settings with styles and wallpapers, where you can really customize your pixel. For so, you'll see they have some defaults, Korean Cottage Ash, but you can create your own custom one.

So here we go, you can choose your specific font. You can change your icons, Wi-Fi Bluetooth, airplane mode, flashlight and a few others, and you can customize your color specifically your icon shape square circle, random different ones, so you can go ahead and select that and name your specific style once you do that it automatically applies, and you'll see this icon shape a little different swiping down from the top there's that purple color that I chose and then, if I actually do go ahead and jump into settings. You'll see that even in settings those icons on the left side change, based on the shape that you chose also very surprising to me: Google decided to strictly stick with face, unlock and actually ditch the fingerprint scanner. So that is actually pretty surprising. In my opinion, however, they did say on stage that they have the fastest face unlock out right now, so really coming at Apple.

With that one really nice feature of the display itself is that it has a 90 Hertz, smooth mode which does genuinely make the phone smoother, because the screens refresh rate is going faster. Normally at 60 Hertz it bumps it all the way up to 90 Hertz. Now the Google Assistant got an update, and they showed a great demo on stage, so I'm just going to play that, so you guys can really check it out. It's pretty incredible. What are her concert? Things share this with pity reply.

Let's go to see her open, ticketmaster. com search for Maggie, Rogers events. So taking a look at that, it's really nice to see that you can open up apps, you can just use your phone without even having to touch the display, so that's it for now on the pixel for a lot more coming soon. So make sure you click that subscribe button, I'm going to go eat. Some peach so hopefully enjoyed the video.

If you did, click that thumbs up and as always guys. Thank you very much for watching.
