Google Pixel 3a Unboxing! It's Purple-ish

Hey everyone Daniel Marsh Anna and welcome back to the channel, so I have got the Google Pixel 3a, and today we're going to be doing a quick unboxing and comparison versus the standard. Google Pixel 3, so I've actually got this in the purplish color with the super bright lime green power button, which I absolutely love, I've, actually open this up and got them around and played with it. So I can get some first impressions to talk to you guys about it in this quick video. So we're going to go ahead and actually will show you. The back of the box here just says: team pixel. Now the Pixel 3a just to go over some of its information.

You know this is a well-respected of the pixel 3. You give up a lot of features, but you're also coming in at half the price, which is pretty amazing for this phone, while you're still retaining that amazing Google Pixel camera, this particular device that has a 5.6 inch display compared to the 5.5 on the Google Pixel 3. But the display quality is a little lower and the device is actually a little larger than the pixel 3 as well. The phone is also made of polycarbonate plastic instead of the glass build and metal frame that you see on the other one. So we're going to go ahead and lift this out of the box here, and we're going to go ahead and put this off to the side.

Real quick I'll show you what you're going to get in your packaging. Now again, this was purchased from Best Buy. But again this is pretty much the same. Unlocked model that you're getting at the Google store. Now keep in mind, though, if you do purchase this on a US carrier, you are getting a boot, lock, bootloader locked version of the phone.

If you purchase it, unlocked from Best Buy or the Google store, you do have the ability to unlock your bootloader, which is a good thing with pixel phones, but is becoming less and less of a priority. They're going to go ahead and turn that over there it has a sim ejector tool in it. You get your USB to a two USB adapter. Your USB-C to USB cable for charging, and also in here you get your 18 watt fast charger. This is the same exact one that comes in all the other pixels.

Really. The only thing that you're giving up here is the USB-C 23.5 dongle, and you are not getting a pair of headphones the dongle. Actually you don't need it, because you've got a 3.5, millimeter headphone jack on the Pixel 3a, so I'm going to go ahead and put this back together, really quick and move this off to the side. So we can take a quick look at the device now, like I mentioned there. This is the purplish color I'm going to go ahead and adjust my camera slightly here, so you can get some color to pop a little reduce the brightness there in purplish color, with the lime green power button there and let's just do a quick overview of the device, and again I've got my Google Pixel 3 sitting right here as well, that we can kind of compare the two of them against each other really wanted to get a white one, but they didn't have any in stock over at my local Best Buy, so holding them side-by-side.

I'm going to sit them like that. You can see that the Pixel 3a is actually quite a bit taller than the Google Pixel 3. You can also see that it looks like it's a little thicker than the Google Pixel 3 as well, and holding it in my hand. It's just a slight bit wider and lighter than the Google Pixel 3 again, you are getting a slightly larger screen on this one, but again you've got a larger device because you've got more bezel space on the top and the bottom. So, on the top here we already went over, you got your microphone hole.

You also have a headphone jack right back here. Coming down the left side, you do have your SIM slot over here on the left side of the device. That's in comparison to the bottom, on the standard, Google Pixel 3 down on the bottom. You've got these two slits down here, the very reminiscent of the Google Pixel one, which had those two little slits down there on the bottom for their speakers. One of them will hold like this.

For remember this one is the speaker. This one is where this second microphone is and then, of course, you've got your USB-C port down here on the bottom. Now, comparing it to the standard, Google Pixel, again, you've got no slots down there on the bottom, and also you have that really cool blacked out USB port on the pixel 3, whereas you don't quite get that same effect here on the 3, you can actually see the colored frame inside their now over on the right side of the device. You've got your volume rocker and your power switch pretty much exactly like. You've got on the pixel 3 the power buttons much, much pops more than compared to the mint green on the white version here so showing the front of the two phones.

So again, you can see here that it does have an OLED display with the always-on display. Double-Tapped awake does work on the phone as well. You've got your single camera right there, earpiece and again. The second speaker is down here on the bottom. Your proximity sensor, much like the think, was the original Google Pixel had it to the right of the speaker, jet or the headset receiver right there on the right now so holding them both in your hand, they really feel quite similar, but they do definitely feel like two completely different phones.

You know you still got that nice smooth side, I love the way. The pixel three feels in your hand, these side rails are beautiful, drippy and just work really well, whereas the Pixel 3a, you definitely feel they're plastic, but it does still give you that same kind of feel which I really, really like so going ahead and unlocking the device here you can see, held side-by-side if I match up the bottoms there. You've got it about there, so you do have you know a smaller screen on the pixel three, and you've also got considerably smaller bezels as well. So I'm going to go ahead and put this down here as we go through a quick overview of the Pixel 3a, so I'm going to go ahead and unlock it. There I've already got this set up.

You've seen the pixel 3 setup. It's very similar. Everything is exactly the same. This is the 64 gig variant. It only comes in this particular variant: you're not able to get a 128 gigs like you are on the bigger one.

So like I mentioned, this is half the price. What are you giving up with this Google? Pixel 3a? You don't have water resistance, you don't have wireless charge, and you lose USB 3.1. You lose a microphone. That's used for noise reduction, you lose the second camera up in the front, and you've actually got a worse main camera as well, and that has a really funky it's 84 degrees, I believe so and without autofocus. You can't really get close enough to you and be in focus.

The volume rockers aren't quite as premium feeling as they are on the standard. Pixel 3 same thing with the power button. You've got a polycarbonate body. You are still getting that two-tone finish there, but you are getting a polycarbonate plastic body, it is an unibody, so the frame side, rail and the back are uniform, but it does feel very drippy. In your hand, it's not like I had the Xperia T, which was incredibly slippery you're, also getting eMMC storage in here.

Instead of the UFS 2.1 on the pixel 3, you are also getting a Snapdragon 670 processor, which is a considerable step down from the 8:45 and in many cases it's even slower than the 835 found in the Google Pixel 3 like I mentioned. Your screen is not quite as high-quality as you've got on the Google Pixel 3, you lose HDR and if you look at it really closely, you can actually see probably can't see it on camera, but you can see there's a slight air gap between the glass and the panel. You don't get that really premium like where the display feels like a part of the panel in the front or the glass in the front. You kind of lose that fused feeling that you've got there. But again this thing's half the price and as far as the camera goes, they are essentially the same.

Camera uses the pixel visual core, which allows you to do things like Instagram, using HDR so on and so forth. So that is definitely something in the Flickr sensor. You'll notice is missing as well. It works really well when you're taking pictures of TVs or cameras or so or TVs, or displays, but isn't quite as important when you're taking your normal photography now. So that is a quick overview of the Pixel 3a in purplish I hope to have more content here and over on co-developers, where I do a lot of other videos as well, so be sure to check me out if you've enjoyed this video be sure to leave it a like subscribe and turn on that notification bill.
