Hi I'm Michael, Josh and you're watching gadget man. If there's been any question about what kind of smartphone and Android smartphone should be like, it should probably be the smartphones made by Google, and this year they have a new one. This is our pixel, 2 and pixel to excel hands-on. These are Google's new smartphones on the surface, not necessarily groundbreaking, but with artificial intelligence and improved software. Google says these phones represent the next big thing in innovation, while the look of the pixel to Excel is growing on me, neither of the two look particularly stunning or futuristic both keep the same pixel design. Signature, mostly aluminum backs with a slab of glass up top the metallic backs have a textured feel to them and aren't slippery or smudge magnets up front the pixel 2 as a large forehead and chin, while the pixel 2 XL has a smaller chin, almost like that on the Galaxy Note 8, but not completely borderless of the two.
The XL feels more like a 2017 smartphone. The pixel 2 is available in three colors kind of blue, just black and clearly white, while the pixel 2 XL comes in just black and black and white, or if you'd like Darth, Vader and Stormtrooper. We like this Panda model, vest, but unfortunately, it's already sold out in the US, the pixel 2 and pixel 2 XL have nearly identical, specs and defer only in terms of screen size and battery capacity check out the complete spec sheet here. Some highlights include: OLED displays for darker blacks and punchier colors and always-on display dual front-facing stereo speakers, something you don't see on many phones these days and for the first time on a pixel phone. What our induct resistance, google says both new pixels have been optimized for augmented reality and comes with a stranger thing: an are sticker app that places animated characters from the hit Netflix show into the real world.
But the real star of the show is the pixels new camera. Well, we don't know how much weight you should put on DXO mark ratings. The pixel two is now the highest rated phone on the list, even if it only has one main camera, it beats out the short-lived reign of the Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8 plus. Well, we weren't able to get any sample photos, and we'll have to wait for our review to verify these claims. One thing worth mentioning is the new portrait mode, unlike other phones, that use a second camera to measure depth and create blur.
Google says it, uses machine learning and computational photography to achieve the same effect. We tried it out, and we're pretty impressed with the results. The feature also works on the selfie camera notice, how it nicely cut out my spiky hair, because it's a Google phone, it gets new features. First, just like how the original pixel got Google Assistant before anyone else. This time around, there is a new feature called Google Lens which lets you do more with things you see in the real world like being able to identify paintings or buildings like on the HTC u11, there's also a squeezed feature dedicated to Google assistant Google, says it's smart enough to identify intentional squeezes.
Pre-Orders start today for the pixel 2 and pixel 2 XL, starting at 649 and $849 respectively. Both phones are available in Australia Canada, Germany India, the UK and the US, the pixel to start shipping on October 17th, while availability for the pixel 2 XL is 2 weeks later. The pixel to Excel will also come to Italy, Singapore and Spain at a later date, and that was our pixel 2 and pixel 2 XL hands-on for more videos like this one make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel, like our Facebook page, follow gadget, match on social media and make gadget mat com your daily habit until the next video from here in San, Francisco I'm, Michael josh, thanks for dropping by you.
