Galaxy S21 Ultra vs OnePlus 9 Pro (A CLEAR Winner)

A portion of this video was made possible by visible if you watch my recent videos on the OnePlus 9 pro you'll know that it's a love-hate relationship with the phone OnePlus over the last couple of years has inched closer and closer to becoming the android flagship to get, and I'd argue that it's closer than ever. But how does it compare to the galaxy s21 ultra, arguably the android flagship to beat in 2021 in my pick for the best phone of the year so far, hey guys, it's Kevin the tech ninja, if you love technology, video, smartphone and smart home, and everything in between make sure you hit that subscribe button right now and ring that bell notification. Anyways, it's foam battle time side by side, the galaxy s21 ultra is definitely the bigger phone. It's thicker wider and heavier at 227 grams compared to the OnePlus 9 pro at 197 grams. I just love how the 9 pro feels in the hand, and it's less top heavy, which I think is due to the simpler camera design. But one thing I hate on this variant is that the 9 pro attracts so many fingerprints.

I know there's a matte finish one available, but I haven't had a chance to use it. So I had to talk about what I have in front of me. The black s21 ultra and its matte design clearly wins when it comes to that department. Both smartphones are equally premium. They come with gorilla glass protection, it's version 5 on the front and back of the 9 pro, while it's Invictus on the s21 ultra.

This means the s21 ultra will potentially be able to survive a 2-meter drop, and it's up to 2 times more scratch resistant in the theory, and the reason I say in theory is that the back of my s21 ultra has a couple scuffs on there anyways. I can't feel it. I won't say it's a scratch, but it's a scuff that won't come out now. Things like ip68 certification on both smartphones are a given. So pretty much even on that front.

Now, speaking of the front, we've got the displays. I think both Samsung and OnePlus displays are the best on a smartphone in 2021, with the s21 ultra. It's a 6.8 inch, dynamic, AMOLED 2x, whereas the 9 pro you're, looking at a 6.7 inch fluid 2 AMOLED. Now both displays are LPO, which means they support. Variable refresh rates going all the way up to 120 hertz, but the lowest on the nine pro is one her versus 10 hertz on the s21 ultra in theory.

This should make the nine pro more power efficient, but I think it comes down to more factors. Besides just the hertz dropping when you're not using the screen. Both phones will give you HD plus resolution and HDR 10 plus certification, but the s21 ultra has a slightly higher peak brightness of 1500 nits, compared to 1300 nits of peak brightness on the 9 pro, but forget the specs for a moment taking both of these phones outside cranking the brightness up to its max settings. I can't tell the difference, but I think where these smartphones start to go on different paths as with display design, both phones are going with the hole, punch design, so the s21 ultra has it in the center and the 9 pro has it towards the edge. Now, speaking of edge, the 9 pro has a much bigger curve on its display compared to the s21 ultra.

You know, I don't mind it that much. I don't mind curved phones, I think it's kind of unique, and it's still fun to use, but I know a lot of people will prefer not to have a curve at all, and the s21 curve is very subtle that most people just don't mind it, whereas the 9 pro has a pretty aggressive curve. Now pairing with the display experience, you get things like dual stereo speakers and the fingerprint scanner built into the screen on both phones. I give the s21 ultra an plus for audio, where the 9 pro gets somewhere between an a and a minus. It's a very subtle real world difference, but you can have a listen for yourself by now.

You've probably heard me speak about why I like visible so much it's a straightforward wireless service that you can activate from your home in 15 minutes or less with an ENIM capable device. Visible, has always been focused on making wireless service, affordable and accessible with party pay. You can get unlimited data for as low as 25 a month, powered by Verizon, 5g included if you've already signed up. I have some great news for you with visible bring a friend program for each new, visible member. You refer that signs up.

You will receive phone service for five dollars a month refer up to 12, and you could pay five dollars a month for the whole year hit my links down below to find out more about to bring a friend program. The fingerprint scanners on the phones are also a bit different. There is an ultrasonic scanner on the s21 versus an optical one on the 9 pro I haven't had much trouble using either. I think both are pretty accurate. The 9 pro seems to be just a hair faster, but that could just be a placebo or something my mind telling me that, but the s21 ultra is better at you know damp fingers like the 9 pro your finger has to be pretty dry there's a couple of times in the rain.

I couldn't get it to work, whereas the s21 ultra worked just fine now with flagships of such caliber. Processing power plays a huge part, so internally you're looking at a Qualcomm snapdragon 888 outscore processor, with 16 gigabytes of ram on the s21 ultra and 12 gigabytes of ram on the 9 pro. You can also get up to 512 gigabytes of UFS 3.1 storage on the Samsung flagship compared to half of that on the 9 pro now. Both phones do not support SD card storage, so you're stuck with what you get so get the biggest size you possibly can afford, because there's no change in that with the internals being so similar general performance is almost identical. But if you've watched my speed test video- and I know you watch my speed test video both of these phones come very close when it comes to speed, but the 9 pro edges out the s21 ultra, I would say using the phone side by side.

The 9 pro is just zippier, but everyday usage. I don't think you'd notice it. I think a lot of this comes down to software, where it's one UI 3.1 versus oxygen, OS 11. Furthermore, I am a huge fan of OnePlus oxygen OS. Furthermore, I think it feels like a ROM, so back in the day with android, you had to like to flash these different pieces of software to get all these special features.

It feels like OnePlus comes with those things already, so I prefer OnePlus software Samsung's. One UI is perfect too and don't get me wrong. It's become a lot better over the years and people still give it a bad rap, but I really do like it. The 9 pro just feels cleaner to me and that's because I love to customize almost everything on a phone. So that's how I feel now one UI comes with a lot of stuff baked in I'd, say as far as features one UI has more.

It even has decks, which is something that I don't particularly use, but Samsung has pushed the envelope when it comes to software already now. The whole debate about updates isn't really relevant anymore, because Samsung and OnePlus they've become very timely, with security patches and updates over the past year. So much so that Samsung flagships have actually gotten updates faster than OnePlus. But, as I said, that's a very subjective topic and that's how I feel what might not be so subjective is camera performance. OnePlus 9 pro has really been hyping.

This camera up with this Hasselblad partnership and a quad camera setup. Also, some pretty lofty specs too, like a 48, megapixel primary wide camera and also an 8 megapixel telephoto and a 50 megapixel ultra-wide, with a 2 megapixel monochrome sensor to me. OnePlus camera has gotten a lot better over last year's camera, but it has one major problem and that is its own hype. I think OnePlus hyped the camera up too much where my expectations were way too high to the point where OnePlus couldn't have possibly met those expectations and also there's a couple of things too, that it has issue with, like color balance between lenses, optical zoom range and video recording. So it does have these crazy specs, like 8k 30 frames per second, but it's just not perfect at that.

You compare it to the optics with the s21 ultra, and you start to see some big differences. The primary camera here is a 108 megapixel sensor, accompanied by two 10 megapixel telephoto lenses, an additional 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera, and the laser autofocus unit and Samsung also brought a lot more features with this camera too, like director view which allows you to record every single lens at the same time, and you're able to switch between them live and then also you do have like perfect details in the front facing camera and also video mode and stabilization is just top-notch. Now the OnePlus 9 pro isn't a slouch by any means. I do love the ultra-wide lens and the ability to take macro shots, but that aside, the s21 ultra camera is just a lot better than the OnePlus 9 pro in all conditions. Now winding down this video.

Let's talk about battery life, you have a 4500 William cell battery, which hovers around the average mark on the OnePlus 9 pro to get even more juice out of it, because I really felt that I wasn't you know I was getting a full day, but I really felt at night it was really starting to cut it close. I did bump down my screen resolution now when you compare that to the s21 ultra with 5000 William battery, of course, battery sizes and everything. But let me tell you the s21 ultra. When I'm going to bed, I still have like 25 to 30 battery, where the OnePlus is dying, but everything isn't all good with Samsung. You see they don't ship with the charger in the box anymore.

You know something that I ragged apple for, and I'm going to rack Samsung too for the same thing, and also it only supports 15 watt wireless charging and 25 watt wire charging where OnePlus yeah you get. Furthermore, you get some really cool features. OnePlus you get the cable and the brick inside the box, and it supports 50 watt wireless charging and 65 watt wire charging, which is pretty insane. You actually don't have to charge your phone overnight, and I don't actually plug my phone in when I'm like taking a shower in the morning or anything like that by the time I'm done getting ready for the day. I have a full battery because it only takes 30 minutes to go from zero to 100.

So if battery life is a thing, you do have two different options: fast charging or just great battery. You know. I think this is a good time to wrap up now. So let's go down the home stretch and talk about the price. The base 9 pro, which retails for 969 and the s21 ultra is 11.99. But there's a big caveat.

You can get the s21 ultra much cheaper than that all the time they're running deals in Samsung's exchange and trading policies. The phone could actually go down to 500, and this is a system that OnePlus just can't compete with. I've said in previous videos that the OnePlus 9 price tag just isn't right, even though the s21 ultra is more expensive. I think it justifies it because, once you buy into it, you can always get the next Samsung phone for a lesser price and that's something OnePlus can do so, while the OnePlus 9 pro is closer than ever being the flagship phone, I think the price is actually holding it back for being the best phone. Furthermore, I think spec for spec, and then you factor in camera.

The s21 ultra is just a better phone all around. As always guys. Those are just my opinions. I want to know what yours are: I'm Kevin the tech ninja have yourself a great day, and I'll hunt, you guys later peace and once again, a big thanks to visible mobile for sponsoring this video and make sure you use my links down below to sign up for visible.
