Oneplus 8 Pro vs Galaxy S20 ultra: 3 Months Later!

Hey, what's up guys it's Darius and if you want the best of the best, no matter, the price two smartphones you might consider is the OnePlus 8 pro and the Samsung Galaxy s20 ultra I've had both for about three months now and in this video I'll tell you, which is right for you design is very subjective. I personally think the OnePlus looks much better has a cleaner design, and especially the colors it comes in are very nice. It also has this matte frosted glass on the back, which doesn't attract as many smudges or fingerprints as the glass on the s20 ultra. The massive camera module on the Samsung doesn't look very good in my opinion, and I personally think the regular galaxy s20 looks much better. Now. Both are huge smartphones, two-handed devices for sure in hand, they're both quite comfortable, the one plus a little more so because of the rounded corners the s20 ultra is bigger and heavier in particular, actually top heavy, which doesn't make it super ergonomic.

Now both cameras do stick out, which means they do rock on a table which is quite annoying, but even more so on the Samsung, because it's located on the side and not in the center, but a case will fix that in the three months they've actually held up very nicely. There are a few scratches, but nothing major, no cracks or anything like that. You have gorilla glass, 5 on the OnePlus versus gorilla glass 6 on the Samsung, but I don't think it makes a huge difference, they're, both fairly durable and will last you a long time. They both also have an ip68 water and dust resistance, which is always nice to have something really weird with my s20 ultra. Is that it rattles.

I have no idea why, but at this price it really shouldn't in terms of the internals they both have 5g support, dual sim, which even doubles as a micro SD card slot on the s20. The base configuration on both of them comes with 128 gigs of storage, which should be fine for most people, but you can double that on the OnePlus and even go up to 512 gigabytes of internal storage on the Samsung. There's no headphone jack on either of the two and something I wanted to point out. Is this notification slider that I love on the OnePlus? It enables you to switch between silent vibration and ringing, and I think every smartphone should have this for unlocking there's an in-display fingerprint scanner on both of them, an optical one, on the OnePlus versus an ultrasonic one on the Samsung they both are decently fast, but on the OnePlus you first have to wake the device which slows it down a little. To my surprise, the OnePlus was a little more reliable, though there's also support for face unlock on both of them, but it only uses the front facing camera, which means it's not as secure as something like face ID both feature very impressive, bright AMOLED panels.

The one on the s20 is marginally bigger. Both the quad HD support hdr10 and have a 120hz refresh rate. The main difference is, though, that on the Samsung, in order to enable that high refresh rate you have to step down to 1080p while on the OnePlus, it even works in quad, HD I'll, be honest in day-to-day usage, you don't really notice the difference between 1080p and quad HD, but again for these prices. You shouldn't really have to make any sacrifices, as you may have noticed, there's a hole punch cut out on both of them. The one on the s20 looks more symmetrical, but on the OnePlus it doesn't get in the way as much when you're watching videos, for example, in terms of the actual display quality Samsung is always the one to beat, and I think this year OnePlus may have actually done it.

I don't know what it is, but the display on the OnePlus is just a little nicer now. Don't get me wrong. Both are amazing, but the OnePlus just has that slight edge, actually literally because it has the curved edges which I'm not a huge fan of, and I much prefer the flat display on the s20 ultra in terms of speakers. They both have stereo sound and sound, perfect. You will be happy with either of the two in terms of performance.

Both are obviously top of the line and can handle everything you throughout them. In this speed test by phone buff, the Samsung actually beat the OnePlus because it has more ram in the base configuration. In my case, however, the s20 ultra comes with the Enos chip, because I have the international model, so it doesn't get the more powerful snapdragon chip, which is also found on the OnePlus I'd say the OnePlus has the slight edge in terms of performance when compared to the Enos model. Moving on to the software OnePlus has a very clean UI with minimal additions, and it's also very customizable Samsung's one UI is a lot cleaner as well compared to previous versions. That said, it's still not quite as clean as oxygen OS.

There are a few pre-installed apps like Facebook that cannot be uninstalled, which I'm really not a fan of. It does have quite a bit more features and a lot of the elements are located more towards the bottom part of the display, which makes them a little easier to reach in terms of software updates. They both have received quite a few this year. Samsung is incredibly fast and reliable when it comes to software updates beating out the pixel in some cases a few weeks ago, it already got the July security update. Definitely a good job by Samsung.

Make sure you keep it up. The updates mainly focused on fixing a few issues, most notably the autofocus issues that occurred when taking a close-up image of something, but well that has been fixed now. OnePlus also did a good job in terms of updates, although it is a little behind Samsung, its updates were mainly focused on addressing user issues like display problems, although there are still a few reported Wi-Fi connectivity issues which definitely still have to be addressed with an update. But personally my device was not affected by this. Overall, it looks like they're about tied.

OnePlus may actually be a little ahead, but, as you can probably tell by the massive camera module on the s20 ultra, the focus with this device- pun definitely intended is definitely the camera. OnePlus has definitely improved in the camera department, but it has to at this price point back in the day. OnePlus strategy was to make flagship killers where you got a great smartphone, almost as good as a flagship, but by cutting some corners they were able to offer it at a much lower price. OnePlus 8 pro, however, is not cheap. It starts at 900 dollars and the camera is usually the first place to save costs.

That is not the case with the OnePlus 8 pro, though you get a great camera, just not as good as the Samsung's. In terms of the main sensor, you get a 108 megapixel one on the Samsung and a 48 megapixel one on the OnePlus. Both perform really well. The OnePlus tends to take brighter and warmer images. Although the images on the Samsung have more contrast and detail, thanks to its massive sensor, the ultrawide performs better on the OnePlus.

However, the telephotos don't even play in the same league. I mean look at this crazy range on the Samsung they're, so proud of this. They even printed 100x on the camera itself. I'll be honest, 100x is really not usable, but 10x is surprisingly good and 30x is usable in good lighting. You can usually tell what you're looking at, but it's not going to be a high quality image.

The OnePlus telephoto only goes up to 3x, and it's not bad, but it's not very good either. Lastly, battery life. To my surprise, the OnePlus actually had much better battery, despite having a lower capacity battery and running at a higher resolution. Now don't get me wrong. They both have good battery life.

The OnePlus just lasts longer. This could again be because I have the Enos model of the Samsung, so the snapdragon may last longer, but I can't really comment on that in terms of charging. They both support incredibly fast charging. It is amazing, I don't have to charge overnight. I can just plug it in the morning for like half an hour or so and it'll be good to go for the rest of the day.

It goes up to 45 watts on the Samsung versus 30 watts on the OnePlus. Although Samsung's fast charger is sold separately, which I guess it really shouldn't at this price point for wireless charging, yet 15 watts on the Samsung versus 30 watts on the OnePlus, which is crazy, and it works with this charger by OnePlus sold separately. It's a little thick, but it works really well reverse charging is also present on both of them. You get three watts on the OnePlus and nine watts on the Samsung, but, as you can tell both aren't particularly fast. These two are really one of the best smartphones out there.

You don't have to make many compromises when going with either of the two. They don't lack in any major aspect, but both are also really expensive. The s20 ultra will actually run you around 300 bucks, more than the already very expensive OnePlus 8 pro for that extra cash. You mainly get a better, more versatile camera. If that's worth it, you have to decide for yourself.

Personally, I definitely go with the OnePlus 8 pro. I was really surprised with how much I liked it. In my opinion, it beats the Samsung in most aspects, except for the camera and software updates. That said, I only got to test out the Enos model of the s20 ultra. So if you want to pick one up make sure to get the better snapdragon model, if you can for the most up-to-date prices and the best deals, make sure to check the link in the description below.
