Galaxy S20 vs Galaxy S20 FE: It's Complicated!

The, galaxy s20, Fe great phone, excellent pricing, excellent value all round winner, but at the end of the day it is a watered down version of the flagship, galaxy s20, but since it is so much cheaper, it all makes sense right wrong. With the galaxy s21 upon us, the galaxy s20 is seeing some big price cuts, which is bringing it dangerously close to s20 FM territory, so which one should you get? I'm Rohan from techie react tech, and today we'll be comparing the galaxy s20 to the s20 Fe. Here we go there's a lot to talk about when it comes to design and build differences between these two phones. Let's start with the materials, the galaxy s20 has a gorilla glass 5 back and front in line with pretty much every expensive flagship out there. The s20 Fe is a radical departure with a plastic back and a golden glass 3 front glass. Both phones have an aluminum frame, but the s20 Fe feels more robust in hand, especially compared to the featherlight galaxy.

S20 see it can be argued that glass is more premium than plastic, so the s20 should be the clear winner, but I think there's a bit more to it. Plastic comes with a ton of advantages of its own, the biggest of which is that it does not shatter. When robbed. I don't know about you, but that is a big piece of mind. For me, glass looks cool and premium, but I would personally never carry it careless, something that I did constantly with the s20 Fe.

What I'm trying to say here is that both glass and plastic have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. So, instead of me telling you which one to pick, I would ask you to think about your usage and decide for yourself other than that. The s20 Fe offers more color choices compared to the somewhat mundane options available for the s20. But overall, if you hold the galaxy s20 in one hand and the s20 Fe in the other, it is very easy to tell that the s20 is the more expensive and refined product it just has that posh feel to it that the s20 Fe somehow does not flip over to the display. And again we have a ton of differences here.

The s20 has a curved display, while the Fe has a flat one. Historically, I've always picked flat over curved, but this time around, I'm actually going to go with the galaxy s20. Why? Well? Because Samsung has done a terrific job with the display on the s20. It is curved very slightly, which means that you get the premium, look and feel of the curved glass while avoiding accidental touches and glare. At the same time, the s20 Fe has a standard flat display which looks and works great, moving on to the actual display quality, both phones pack, beautiful 120 hertz displays with stunning colors, which are over saturated to pop out, while both displays are good in a vacuum.

The galaxy s20s display does seem to be a step above the s20 Fe. In terms of overall quality, mostly thanks to its higher resolution, but at the same time I feel that the s20 few ins in the display size department, it's a more comfortable screen size for typing or watching videos or even gaming. The galaxy s20 feels a bit narrow, sometimes especially when typing. Conversely, the s20 smaller display could be an advantage for you. If you prioritize, compact phones or one-handed usage.

Talking about the software performance is quite simple, because there really isn't much to compare here in India. Both phones are offered with the same Enos CPU and run on the same one. UI software version performance is identical, with both phones being good at everyday stuff, like browsing and social media, but strictly average at power intensive stuff. Like gaming, there are some regions like the UK, where the s20 Fe 5g is available. If that is the case where you live, go with the 5g variant, as it has the snapdragon 865 CPU, which provides a better, more optimized experience, leading to better performance and battery life when it comes to software updates, things are again mostly similar.

Here. Samsung has promised three years of software updates for both the s20 and the s20 Fe, the galaxy s20 being the more premium phone will probably receive the software updates sooner than the s20 Fe. It doesn't really matter to me because they both will get it eventually, but you can factor that in if you like, having the latest software as soon as possible. Let's talk about the cameras now in terms of optics. Both smartphones have a triple camera setup on the rear, in fact both the galaxy s20 Fe and s20 sport, the same 12 megapixel primary camera, a similar 12-megapixel ultra white camera and a totally different telephoto camera.

The s20 Fe has an 8 megapixel 3x optical zoom telephoto lens, while the flagship s20 has a 64, megapixel 1.1 x, optical zoom, telephoto camera. On the flip side, the s20 Fe has a 32 megapixel selfie snapper, while the s20 has a 10 megapixel front camera, let's find out how they perform in real life. As always, we'll talk about the photos first and then move on to the videos. Primary camera performance is excellent on both devices pictures shown on the galaxy s20 and s20 Fe are well exposed with accurate, colors and low noise in most shooting environments. There's a slight white balance and contrast difference in pictures short on both devices ultra-wide angle.

Camera performance is nearly identical with the s20 producing slightly better pictures with more details. On the other hand, the s20 fee's ultra-wide lens has a wider field of view. Both devices use different processes when it comes to shooting pictures with the telephoto lens. The s20 Fe has a 3x optical zoom lens, while the s20 uses a hybrid zoom, with its 64 megapixel sensor to produce 3x zoomed in stills. The pictures produced by both smartphones are nearly identical.

We see very similar results when it comes to shooting portraits pictures shot on both devices have accurate subject: separation with very minor tonal and contrast differences, even though the s20 Fe has a 32 megapixel front camera as compared to the 10 megapixel sensor on the s20, the selfie shot on the flagship, s20 look better moving to low light performance, the s20 tends to take pictures with longer exposure time, while the s20 Fe focuses more on longer processing times rather than long exposure times. Nonetheless, both devices produce very good stills, with minor color temperature variations and low noise. Moving on to the videos. When it comes to video resolutions and frame rates, both devices can shoot videos in 4k up to 60 fps from the rear and front cameras. Also, the galaxy s20 can shoot in 8k at 24 fps from the rear camera in terms of video quality.

Both smartphones deliver amazing video quality with high dynamic range, video stabilization and accurate colors. In fact, most users won't be able to notice a difference in quality. The only differences lie in the subtle noise processing, with the s20 Fe in low light environments, both devices have support for Samsung's pro video mode and other features like HDI, 10, plus shooting capabilities. To conclude, both devices have excellent hardware, supported by Samsung's industry-leading image processing. This makes both the galaxy s20 and s20 Fe an excellent choice for both camera enthusiasts and casual users.

So, if you're deciding between the galaxy s20 and s20 Fe, the entire camera, experience should not be a factor, since it is identical on both devices. The larger size of the s20 Fe indicated that it should have better battery life than the comparatively petite s20, but that is simply not the case. Both phones have strictly average battery life. In my usage experience, ranging from 4 to 5 hours of screen on time or roughly a day's worth of endurance, both phones support, fast wireless charging and both support superfast 25 watt, wired charging. But here comes another significant difference, since the s20 Fe is the budget flagship, it comes with a 15 watt adapter in the box.

That's it in comparison. The galaxy s20 is positioned as a top tier phone, which means that it gets a better 25 adapters, as well as a pair of AKG earbuds in the box, do factor all this in when making your buying decision talking about the phone call quality. Both phones have Samsung DNA, which means they are excellent devices for phone calls. One thing to note, though, is that the haptics on the s20 are noticeably better than on the s20 Fe. Let's conclude now, from the surface, the galaxy s20 looks like the clear winner with a seemingly more premium overall package, and it does have all that, but as we dive deep, it can be seen that the s20 Fe carries some significant advantages of its own.

Like the plastic back and the bigger display. Now I'm not going to tell you which one you should pick, but what I am going to tell you is that no matter which one you end up buying, you will be getting the top tier Samsung ecosystem experience.
