E46 M3 vs E92 M3

Hey guys its Granville glance, car collection, calm, and today we have an e46 m3. First, an e 92 m3 comparison and before we start please hit that subscribe button. If everybody who watches this video subscribe to my channel I'll, be in good shape and I can keep making videos thanks again, alright guys first up in our comparison, is the e46 m3. Now this is an o-5 competition package. The competition package was only oh five and oh six, it's alpine white. It's got almost one hundred and three thousand miles: 102 nine.

Seven three sonar driving today we're going to hit one hundred three thousand miles now: I've, never driven a competition package car my owned, a 2003 now to two thousand three and a half, but a regular 2003, be 46 m3i, an own Toluca, Laguna, Sea blue 2003, a sunroof delete. This has a sunroof, actually know what we'll open it. So we can get a little more light here. This has some modifications to it: some interior mods, the short shifter otherwise and something you know with the lights and the clear lenses, but otherwise it is pretty much stock. As far as performance goes now, why don't I if an e46 m3 is so good in watch my channel I've reviewed a couple of them, and I'll tell you why I would have kept my e46 m3 forever? Unfortunately, that's stolen, so we're gonna.

Take these cars out in some of New Jersey, back roads and I'll be driving it back to that where we can compare the differences now, I joke the m2 here. So I think both of these cars are going to feel slower compared to the m2, where I'm pairing up to is today we're comparing the 46 verse 19. While the steering is much better in the competition package, I can tell that straightaway. It's really sharp. It's really giving great feedback.46M threes are just a joy to drive compared to a normal car like let's just say, compared to my m2 I know, that's a normal car, but the clutch is stiff, so it's not the best for riding around in traffic when I had mine used to it was using as a daily driver and when I got stuck in New Jersey famous traffic, it was not fun, but again, these are all their cars now, you're, probably not daily driving them. So I think that kind of takes that out of the equation now that to transition this your choices are 6-speed manual or a sequential manual, which is actually a signal plush on a dual clutch: BMWs infamous SMT transmission.

There are a lot of people now that are doing SMG swaps. If you look at the price of manuals compared to s and G's, the SMS are significantly less so a main pay look. If you find the exact color, you want everything else, and they pay to look into doing a 16-minute under swamp. These are rear, drive cars, 3.2 liter straight-6, which gives you 333 horsepower 262 foot-pounds, it's working, so it is not a torque boss monster depending on the transmission choice. It weighs about 30 450 3,500 pounds that were in that range, but it's just a very visceral card.

This is more visceral than my m2 by the last e46 m3 review. That I did I drove the m2 to the review just like today and after driving at 8:46 m3. All morning when I got back into the em ?, it felt very electronic, very soft. You can tell that this D anyways electric is this. Car has hydraulic, steering and as far as visceral, not from the performance but as far as visceral feel on the 46 m3.

Now the exhaust noise in these cars is a very raspy noise. A lot of people change the exhaust out. You can make these cars sound, really cool. Like a Formula, One car, you can take the rasp out of the exhaust sound. So whatever your preference is now this car as a competition package.

Again it has almost 100 3,000 miles which is bought for 20,000. So it's a no.5 alpine white with a cinnamon interior, which is a very good resale value. As far as color combos go, it's a very desirable combination, and you can buy this for a 20 grand and for 20 grand. This is a lot of car. You couldn't buy a new Mini Cooper for 20 grand, and you could have an e46 m3 now.

Low-Mileage competition packages, especially Interlagos blue, with a 6-speed manual, hit me anywhere from 30 I've. Even seen asking prices at 40,000, don't know that they're selling at that price, but I think oh five and oh six competition packages with well mileage in the stick. Well, you know we'll be in that price range at some point, but if you're looking for a really fun weekend car you want to do subtract days. I would probably go with this: the hundred thousand mile car and competition package, if you could swing so again in the United States, they sold these cars from 2001 to 2006. Oh five snow, six of the competition package.

If you want Laguna sea blue now, his color was available from one toe I, just love driving these a 46?m trees. This is the kind of car that you take the long way home now, I believe the of fives and the over six have the upgraded head unit that you start the interior shop. Now this is a high-revving motor it revs to about 8200 RPM and the power is way up top. So if you want to get into power on an e46 m3, you really got to rub it out. You got to get to six seven, eight thousand rpm and this car.

It just sounds great when you're on it, I'm very familiar with the s54 engine. I have an S 54 m coupe the clown shoe and I owned, an e46 m3, so I've owned, tested before engines for years problem areas on these cars, of course, can be the veins rod, bearings subframe, that's probably the biggest issue. Subframe now I've never had any subframe issues with my 80 46 m3 and I never had any subframe issues. Excuse me, while I accelerate I, never had any subframe issues with my amp computer. Now what I love about the e46 m3? It's the right size, all cars, that you know the m4 and the new m3 are just so big.

Now the e46 m3 is very close to the m2 size, they're, actually less than an inch apart, those two cars. Its rear-wheel drive it's available on. Stick you can delete the sunroof. It's got an 8000 rpm redline of a naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine. So this is an era when BMW M cars were known for their, not naturally aspirated engines.

So you have the s14 starting in the e30 m3, the s54 in the 46 m3s, the s65 and the v8 m3s. You know even the e39 m5, with the s 62 v8. When you got an M car, you got a great engine. Now everything is just tuned to turbocharged and way better performance. You get the power down low because of the turbocharger, but it's just not the same as we're.

Wrapping these cars out. The e46 m3 is not as fast as the newer m3, but you know what I think. It's more fun, I mean I could drive this car on these roads all day, I mean if you own this car, don't even go on a highway, because you're just missing out this car is in the turns now. This is a stock suspension and a stock competition back suspension. So again the ride is stiff.

So if you're looking for a luxury car, you know you're better off with a know, a regular 3-series in e46 3 Series than the m3. If you want something, that's a little more luxurious if you want a softer ride, but when these cars were new, they were fast cars. They were way faster than the s50 to 240 horsepower the 36 m3. So what is the m3 competition package? Give you? What gives you 19-inch BBS wheels a specialties tuned suspension, a tighter, more direct steering, rack, larger front and rear brakes, an M track mode which actually has a button on the steering wheel, deletes cruise control and radio buttons, an Alc?ntara steering wheel and handbrake, and an optional, unique cube. Aluminum interior trim and I think that e92 m3 is got his work cut out for end driving this car.

These car are fantastic, so, let's see, let's see how good the e92 can be eyes and now, if you haven't heard by the sound or the different interior, we are now in the e92 m3. So this is a 2008 model for here v8 and when this model came out back in 2000, I was thrilled to get go from e2 e46 m3 my car had already been stolen, but to go to upgrade to an e 92 m3 and then get that glorious, 4-liter, v8 414 horsepower 200 and about 95 foot-pounds of torque just own a torque list wonder this base of these base on BMWs v10 engine with two cylinders cropped off a bit. It's known as the s65 engine. It's available. Furthermore, it was six via manual like this one or a dual clutch transmission.

To remember the SMG for the e46 m3 was the single clutch. This is a dual clutch transmission yeah. This has that same 8200, red line. So again all the powers up high, but a great, normally aspirated motor. When you're driving this car, you kind of see the hood mulch that makes it look pretty cool.

Now these are at the bottom of the market. This car has 70,000 miles, we're about to hit 71 thousand miles, and my friend bought this car for 26 grand, maybe 20, 65 and I. Think that's a steal now, no way it is the first year model, so the cheapest they did a lifestyle update in 2009 the LCD update, so I owned a teen 19 m3 with this s65 engine for six years. So I have a lot of experience with this engine. Now this car is faster than the e46 m3, it's zero to sixteen motorway, and they don't really adjust for temperature or altitude MARTA.

We got a 4.3 4.3 second 0-60 time and if I remember correctly at twelve point, seven quarter-mile this VA just sounds great. Now this again has sound enhancements to it as far as warrants got in and exhaust on here headers, so it makes a difference as far as sound goes, but this is the more capable car if we were doing a race or an autocross. These cars going to have the better lap time. It's got the better stereo, it's got the better navigation, it's got the better, you name it. It's got it everything better.

The e92 series m3s actually had an ad buy that sharpened. The throttle response. You can do your favorite em settings now when I had my m3. The only way you can get to hit by is, if you got the navigation and I didn't, have a navigation Clark. So you need to go into the app to save your favorites headaches.

There's two steerings type of series, comfort and sport I believe throttle response. So there's a couple different suspension settings where you can take off the electronic nannies to an extent, but is it really better than the e46 m3 wow? That's a tough choice. You cannot beat the sound of a good high, roving PA yeah orange by one of the few people that actually paid less for a competition package. E46 m3, that is a 92 m3, so I think the e92 m3 is right now or at the bottom of the market. I mean the most collectible.

Probably the 90 series m3 would probably be a Lime Rock Edition and stack. Do they only made about 200 of those a Muslim or DCT, or a competition package? Sedan I think there's only I forget one hundred fourteen hundred competition Congress to dance get it instead. That pilot lowers that never a little better, and that is the most the rarest version of the nine-day series, but in fact, there's a ton of 92 coops for sale. Kick your transmission, the great DCT or six million and/or like this one, and the fact that you can get them for mid-twenties. This is steal.

The car is only going to go up from here. The e46 m3 is already going up and not, and because, if it's a v8, it really sounds great under tunnels now wish would I choose that's a tough choice. You know the newer car. They build these cars from 2008 to 2013 to get into a 2013 which, at the time of this filming, is only four years old. Maybe 50 years on that and 2008 models are coming so a five-year-old car still has a decent.

I mean be honest: the navigation is horrible, but the 2000 I believe around 2011. They switch to have the same. My job is my BMW 1?m, so that's kind of my step-up to try to get a later model, but these cars are only going upward value if you really like it to be, and you love the e90 series get one now I think you really have to get and then stick to see any really future appreciation. But this car is definitely going to go down to a classic classic classic, but 46 m3 is actually a classic right. Now and they're going up in value, I mean you know, Warren's open a couple of these cars, like I, said I've owned one I'm, always looking for another one, especially a Laguna.

Sea blue stick ooh, and you know: I've been tracking these prices the last couple of years and the prices have really gone up, you're looking for an investment car, and you want to maybe make a profit now or drive something for a year or two or here and then sell it. I would probably go for the e46 m3. If you want to keep this car a long time- and you have a longer time frame at least five years, then I think it makes sense to pick up a t90 series. M3 I think the older car always goes up first and it probably the e90 series going up will probably be like in the next five years, or so it may take to the next generation. M3 comes out and people go hey.

You know back in a way. They actually need a v8 six-speed m3 in Helen and everybody's going to want to go back and buy one of these cars. This is a tough choice. You know coming into this contest. I was thinking e46 m3 all away, but this coffee's perfect I love the s54 engine, but it doesn't sound like this s65 so which one would I pick Wow.

What's the conclusion here, I mean you have two fantastic cars. You can't go wrong with neither car you cannot go wrong with either car. Probably if there were me I, like cars that appreciated value, I feel kind of robbed that I didn't have as much time as I wanted to. With my e46 m3 because it got stolen, so I can every pick the e46 m3, but let me tell you if I had I am three again as a daily driver like I. Had the Interlagos blue, six-feet sedan.

I would be very, very happy, so you can't go wrong with either car leave your comment below, which would you pick and be 46, f3 or e92 and get into these details? You want to tell me what color combo you want, what transmission choice you would take, and that brings up a good point. Actually, if you are looking for a sequential manual transmission, I would go with the 890 series all the way they do. A clutch in this car is actually great. It is so much better than the SMG. So for that reason to me, it's no contest.

Stick for stick I, think the e46 m3 edges out the car for just more visceral and I would try to get a competition package, but if you can't get a competition package, you'll get a 2001, so I'll leave a comment below which there's no wrong answer here. These are great cars. Leave a comment below which car you would choose to be 46 at 3, early, 97 3 and be specific, which again for the e90 series. Would you get the hardtop convertible, which is notice the 893 he the coupe, the e92 or the sedan, the e90 which transmission he would take, stick or DCT?
