Did Xiaomi defeat itself? - Redmi Note 9T 5G Review

If, you ask me Xiaomi at this point, has way too many nines in its portfolio: Redmi 9, Redmi, note, 9, Redmi, 9t, Redmi, note, 90, Redmi, note, 9 pro Redmi Note, 9 pro max Redmi, 9a and well. Maybe I've missed a few, but you get what I mean. Can anyone really outline some features for each of these phones? We believe that this may be a difficult task. Even for Xiaomi product managers, the Xiaomi Redmi Note, 9 t5g was officially unveiled on January 8, which is a new phone in the 250 to 300 price range, a segment in which pop co x3 NFC still reigns supreme. If we ignore the already confusing name of the device, the Redmi Note 9t belongs to the new generation of Xiaomi phones, which are obviously moving from a 6.67-inch screen to a new 6.53 inch format. The resolution has been also slightly reduced from 24 times 1080 to 2340 x, 1080 pixels, so the density has remained the usual 395 pixels per inch.

It is an IPS panel, with average technical specs with the brightness rated at 450 nits, and no option to refresh faster than 60 hertz. The phone is slightly smaller than most Xiaomi last year, phones, primarily due to the reduced screen dimensions. The front camera is made in the form of a punch hole in the upper left corner, so the screen to body ratio is still around 84 percent with noticeable bezels, especially on the bottom. Besides, the gorilla glass 5 protection, the screen comes with a protection film, which is an additional security feature for those users who tend to drop their phones. Often, the package also includes a transparent silicone case that is decently thick, which will certainly help in case of mechanical shocks and drops when it comes to design.

Xiaomi is sticking to its style of rounded edges, which it has been using for quite some time. The note 9t hasn't deviated far from its predecessors, so the back of the phone, which is what mainly visually separates different phones, is similar to the ones of the recently tested me 10 t lite. The camera system is placed on the inside of the rectangular housing within a circular cutout in the middle of the upper part of the back. The three cameras and the flash are symmetrically. Spaced and the camera system consists of a 48, megapixel main camera, a macro camera and a 2 megapixel depth sensor.

You may have noticed the absence of the wide angle lens the most useful one after the main camera, but it seems it's becoming a trend in 2021 which we honestly don't really like when choosing between a mac pro and a wide angle. Camera wide angle is always our first choice. After all, how often do you hear people brag about the great macro photo? They took on their phone, think about it a little or better yet leave a comment below and let us know if you agree with us or not and which camera you think is a better choice. The first impression when you take the Redmi Note 9t in your hand, is that, although it weighs almost 200 grams, its plastic frame, and especially its plastic back, leave the plastic impression of a cheap phone. The imposed texture on the back does not help, nor does the fact the back cover also extends over the edges of the phone.

The good thing, however, is that the silicone case completely eliminates this feeling, so it is our recommendation to use it, because this is one of the few phones that may look better in a case than without one. The buttons and connectors are placed in the usual spots around the edges of the phone body, along with stereo speakers that have two openings one in the handset and the other one at the top. Xiaomi also made room for an infrared blaster on top and a 3.5 millimeter jack at the bottom. The fingerprint sensor is very fast and integrated into the side power button. The USB c port supports fast charging at 18 watts, although the charger that comes in the package is rated higher at 22.5 watts, charging takes a little over an hour and a half and provides two up to two and a half days of combined use. Even when you really try there is a great chance that you will not be able to discharge the battery in one day, and we really have to commence Xiaomi on that.

We have to note that this is the first time we got a phone with the MediaTek dimension, d800u chipset, so we carefully examined the performance of the new seven nanometer mid-range outscore chipset, with an integrated 5g modem. The dimension 800u has a big little architecture with two fast a76 cores at 2.4 gigahertz and 6 855 cores at 2 gigahertz. The chip also comes with a tricorn arm: Mali, g57, mc3, graphic, Wi-Fi 5, modem, lpddr4x memory, controller, AI processor, APU 3.0 and a separate video decoder encoder in terms of performance. This chip should be something in the class of snapdragon 730, which means generally good performance and good energy efficiency. Considering the 7 nanometer production process, we will also mention that we could not get a direct comparison in an tutu and 3d marked tests, because Xiaomi is blocking their servers so downloading the files needed to run these applications was not even possible.

Redmi Note 9t comes with four gigabytes of ram and two versions with 64 gigabytes and 128 gigabytes of memory. These use different type of memory, so the 64 gigabyte version is an UFS 2.1. While the 128 gigabyte one uses a slightly faster UFS 2.2. Therefore, it is probably a good idea to just go with the 128 gigabyte version, not only because of the size, but also because of the speed. The good news is that they're, in addition to the two NATO sim cards, the Redmi Note 90 also has a dedicated micro SD slot that can help if you're, storing a lot of images in 4k videos, the system uses android, 10 and mini 12 that we've already seen on several newer Xiaomi phones.

The camera system comes down to two sensors, a main one and a mac pro. As the macro camera has only 2 megapixels, even the best images on the very bright day suffer from low resolution washed out, colors and noise. Sure, with this lens, you can get really close to the object, you're shooting, but you need to have very steady hands and a lot of light at your disposal. We think it might be better to simply take a picture using the main camera and then crop and enlarge the part of the image you need, because the results are often even better than those with the macro camera. The main camera is something we've seen so many times by now, the quad buyer type with a resolution of 48 megapixels.

The photos it takes are served at 12 megapixels, but you can always opt for higher resolution photos by choosing the more option in the camera menu, although it does not have a wide angle lens with a focal length of 26 millimeters. The angle captured by the main camera is quite wide, which gives flexibility to the entire system. The aperture is f 1.8 and the pixels are 0.8 micrometers or 1.6 micrometers by merging adjacent pixels, focusing system uses face, detection and the camera can record at maximum of 4k and 30 fps without stabilization by day. The images are detailed, with excellent dynamic range, but a slightly noticeable processing, so the images may appear artificially sharp, as if someone had applied a sharpening filter to a standard photo. This is evident in the shadows that are starting to look like they were painted with the watercolors.

Fortunately, this does not happen every time, so we are satisfied with the quality of the photos on average, even in slightly lower light conditions. The photos are still decently good with good color reproduction. The portrait mode is good, but it's often confused by strands of hair or outstretched fingers, which can be recognized as the background instead of part of the subject. As quad buyer sensors are known for good photos and low light conditions. We expected nothing less of the note 90.

Still, while the quality of the photos is good at dusk and in parts with enough light, challenging lighting conditions are a mission impossible for this phone. Blurry photos lots of noise poor, focusing only the colors remain good night mode manages to open up metal tones and shadows, but required a very calm hand and will often produce worse images than those taken without it. Videos in 4k are very good, but they desperately need stabilization, sharpness, good colors, dynamic range and a lot of detail can't compensate for the excess movement when shooting handheld. If you find a spot to lean the phone on so the camera does not move a lot and use a sniper breathing technique, you can count on some very good shots. If not, let's say the spectators might get motion sickness from all the shaking with every step and movement, no matter how slow it may be, which is a real shame.

Selfie camera is a 13 megapixel, f 2.3 and 1.12 micrometer pixels, with 29 millimeters focal length and a fairly wide frame. The images are good, often overexposed, but decent. The colors are good and there's enough detail the portrait mode is there, but also has the same caveats with mentioned with the main camera. Other things worth mentioning are the modern 80211 ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi FM tuner NFC and the infrared port. The Xiaomi also says the phone has an anti-splash coating that can't come in handy in cases of a rain or accidental spills and is definitely a good bonus in this price range with a price that is extremely similar to the Paco x3.

The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 t5g, offers an interesting new MediaTek, chipset plenty of storage space and a separate micro SD slot, as well as a very good battery. The screen, on the other hand, is mediocre and does not have a high refresh rate. The cameras are average at best, with the very poor noise results and video that is poorly usable. Unless you use a tripod to simply put it. There is no real advantage over the Paco x3 and there are some drawbacks, such as slower charging, poorer cameras screen and the chassis material in everyday use.

This phone has proven to be a solid device with a nice size and decent overall performance. At no point did we notice any problems like freezing or stuttering, and all modern games worked fine at a decent level of detail, which was to be expected. The version with 128 gigabytes and UFS 2.2 proved to be very nice, both in synthetic and actual copying test. So once again, we favor this version over those with 64 gigabytes. What we really didn't like about this phone is that it only came with four gigabytes of ram, and we feel that this phone should either come with the six gigabytes as standard or at least have a six gigabyte version so that in a year or two it can still cope with demanding applications and games.

As for the 5g, the relevance of this feature will depend on the country you live in for most users, even if you travel a lot, which is not very likely at the moment, we doubt that you will have much opportunity to use 5g overall Redmi Note.9 t5g is a solid phone, but as its parents, company has introduced much better phone at the same price, I'm not sure if I can recommend the note90 over the Paco x3. If the price ever drops 30 to 50 dollars lower than the Poco x3, you may consider saving some money on some features. You do not need. Thus, the biggest enemy of all Xiaomi mid-range phones in 2021 will obviously be the model from their own portfolio. The Paco x3.
