Asus Zenfone 6 Drop Test! Will The Flip Up Camera Survive?

What's up and welcome to episode of gizmos SLEP today we've got the ASUS before 6. This is one of the best budget. Smartphones out there cost $499. Essentially a bezel is displayed with a small bottom chin, a flip-up, perfect camera. That has a wide angle and a main sensor that it's perfect and the big thing about it is. It's got.

A 5000 mAh battery makes this phone a great all-around device, especially for the money, if you're looking for a great Android device. But the question is how durable is the before 6, so we're going to be finding that out today with a durability, drop test. Remember, dropping it up to 10 times and if it survives all 10 times it's past the drop test, but most likely at some point it will break, and then we're going to smash the crap out of it and, of course, you're filming epic slow-motion at thousands of frames per second for this drop test. Just like we do for every gizmo slip drop test without further ado, it's going to be freaking epic. Let's get started, we're gonna start with three drops on the bottom in three two one: okay, let's check it out.

Okay, so we got something peeling up right. There check that, so a little piece came off peels and functions normal besides that a little of scuffing but nothing major, okay, taking a look how'd, we do just a little of scuffing and that's about it. We've got a glass back here and a glass front, so you can see how durable this ends up being dropping it on the bottom. One. Last time in three two one here we go.

Let's check it out how we're doing got a little of scuffs on the top, which is interesting because we must have bounced against to the top. The bottom definitely impacting the bottom right here, pretty good durability. So far, that's just hitting on the bottom they're. Probably the easiest drops now we're going to go for the top and see how this flip up camera does in this drop test. That's going to be fascinating.

Arguably, the most interesting feature of this phone is that it has a flip up camera. This is supposed to have automatic fall detection, so if I drop it like this, with the flip up camera out, it should be all wrapped up inside the phone before it hits the ground. Let's find out, if that's true or not, alright, let's take a look at the slow motion. Here comes the before on this screen. It looks like it's pretty much in oh, you can see what it bounces.

The camera is not quite fully retracted, but almost enough that it didn't take the brunt of the impact and I think that's the most important thing. Alright, taking a look, let's see how it did Wow the top got scuffed a lot. The camera glass is not shattered, which is good, does have a little of a nick. It looks like right here, let's see if the camera is still working, it is still working as the motor still working. Yes, it is so it maybe is not quite fully flushed up at the top, but that's a pretty minor thing: the camera is still working.

Let's continue with the drop test. Alright, so did the camera fully retract before the impact? No, it did not. You can see. The camera is about 3/4 of the way retracted, and then it hits the camera Wiggles quite a bit, and then the phone falls down onto the camera as it's still retracting in alright. Let's see how it did so.

We've got an impact point right here: lots of scuffing for sure love that a little that looks good. The camera still looks. Ok last drop on the top. Will the flip up camera survive this one 3 ? here comes the before, and you can see the flip up. Camera is still out crunch low I saw sparks there were literal sparks, that's not so awesome.

They took the impact. Let's go see if that flip up camera survived that brutal impact. Oh man, you can see that the camera did in fact get hit this time so right there. You can see that there are some scuffing on the bottom of the camera module, let's go and see if it still flips, even though it took a direct impact. Oh, there it is okay, it didn't work the first time, I pressed it, but it worked this time nice.

So the flip up, camera I, guess passes gizmo slips drop test, at least so far. Let's see how the size of the back and the front do here. These are arguably the hardest drops to land correctly. These might turn into backdrops and face drops 3, 2 1 drop that brush the glass on the flip up camera, in particular, the back glass actually survived, but not the camera glass see what the camera actually looks like use it does it flip. Does flip look at the image quality.

It actually looks pretty solid, still yeah actually like it looks like it focuses past the break. Let's see if the wide-angle still good yeah I mean you get a little of a little of glare, but the main camera at least is still good. So the image quality is definitely affected from the broken glass, especially on the wide-angle camera, not as much on the main camera, but definitely some on the main camera as well. If you're not dealing with lens flares, though it's not so bad, it actually is very usable still. Okay, so here comes the phone.

It's its Wow! It's pretty much just a backdrop, and I'm imagining what the direct impact on the back glass. You can see some glass shards flying up around on the ground there, but I'm, guessing that the actual flip up camera was not quite closed all the way, and it probably absorbed some impact, maybe even protected the back glass a little all right, so we're trying to side drop one more time. That last drop was our backdrop. Three two one here we are, let's see, oh look at this. It gives a warning.

Please do not flip the camera with force to ensure it works properly. Okay, we didn't but got it is. The back. Ok looks like the back is still ok, even though the glass on the camera is still shattered. Obviously, just scuffs are all we got no shattered glass or anything.

You know that's impressive for 8 drops and on a glass back glass front phone, alright, dropping it on the side in 3, 2, 1. Ok, this is a really tough drop. That was basically a perfect face down drop, let's see if it survived, though nope no. Oh, super nope. Look at that that shattering is super impressive, so it looks like I do see some app icon displays, so it's kind of being semi-functional I'm, feeling the glass on my finger, and it's very nerve-racking I, don't think I'm going to get it to respond again.

Alright, here it comes in for the smackers and cuss Mac. That is like a perfect face down hit and Wow yup I can totally see. Well. It's interesting, though, that the display is not messed up. You can still see the normal apps and icons there, but when we picked it up, the display was super messed up.

So that's interesting! Well, it finally failed our drop test on the 9th drop, which actually I think is really impressive. First, since we got the backdrop I guess, the camera glass did shatter I'll drop a like 7 or 8. Guess it's up to you whether you think it failed at that point. So now let it shattered on the 9th drop it's time to smash the crap out of it. Here we go.

Are you ready for 18,000 frames per second ultra smash of the before 6 I'm, totally ready? It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the flip up camera. That's for sure, oh, that poor before 6 look it's a different type of flip out camera now so when I threw the phone I was like: oh no, I, overshot it, but I barely got it into frame on the left side here, and it hits the s-pen made that single point. Oh my god, that's so much sparks when this thing broke. Ah I, don't know if the breaking off, or it was the metal and what caused that many sparks that's insane. It must have been the metal on the concrete just striking it just the right angle and cause all those sparks.

It's like a little firework show. I have never seen that all of my drop tests or smashes before that's awesome. Taking a look at the wide angle, hmm Wow the sparks go really far out and yeah. You can see all the little goes off a little mini firework and the s-pen twirling off into the end of the night. I love that that's so awesome I'm.

Let's smash it one more time and see what happens I'm so ready for this I know, there's going to be more sparks. I saw the sparks with my naked eye. Okay, but it's just a brief flash. Let's see it, it's slow-motion, the camera module edge, hits the ground and that's what causes all the sparks. Maybe these wires here hanging off this camera are live, and it's like sparking like electrically I, don't know how could that be? It could the electricity in the wire you caused me because it was the actual electricity of the wire that hit and there's just so many sparks just playing this through.

It's just crazy. All the glass coming off of it ?, just amazing, I'm, speechless like that was incredible, so it wedged itself under the basketball hoop over here, pull it out. My flip up camera. Oh my God! Look at that! It's crazy-looking! It's really bright! Still, it's got to be part of the case that may be the type of metal that they use. It's just a very Sparkle metal or something I.

Don't know. I would've thought it was just aluminum, but I guess can aluminum spark that much whoa ha ha. You hear that the motors were going trying to flip it. There is the before 6 drop test holy crap. This thing took a beating.

It survived until the drop number nine, which I think is perfect for a glass front and back phone. So overall I think this one has pretty good durability. If you're really worried about it, though, you'll definitely still want to get a case. Now. I've got links to the description down below to some before 6 cases, and it does come with a clear case in the box as well.

If you'd like to just use the out-of-the-box case, this phone is like a zombie phone right now. Can you hear it just keeps activating sometimes, like the motorist is running in the background like the display is no longer functional, it's not functional phone, but some reason it just keeps going if you enjoyed this be sure to go down there hit that like button? If you want to see more wacky tests, durability tests like this one and smartphone reviews hit that subscribe button at the notification bell. I will see you in the next one Brandon. You.
