Asus Vivobook S510U Laptop Review By Tech Nuovo

So, it's actually quite refreshing to see laptops as thin as the Asus VIVO book s51 zero. You come to the market 15 inches rather than the standard 14 News screen size that we saw during the Ultrabook takeover. Now there isn't much difference between 15 inches and 14 inches, especially on screen size, but you do notice a slight difference, especially when you're doing things like a media consumption or even photo or video editing. So this particular laptop that we were sent from Asus is the lesser ? of the specifications available on the market. Now this particular laptop is sporting, an Intel Core, i5 7200 new processors. It's got a kilobyte of RAM and a 256 gigabyte SSD hard drive.

There is also an NVIDIA GeForce 940 MX inside ?, to give you that extra graphical bump to its performance. The laptop ranges from about 739 pounds right up to 904, so do hunt around before purchasing, because that is a huge difference in price we found it I think it was from a website called Bach's Toccata UK I'll leave links in the description where you can find the cheapest anyway, but Isis was selling it for one price. Another website, I think was e. Buyer was selling it for really expensive, but then this Bob stock only UK had it really cheap. So there's a whole range of prices that we've found on this laptop.

So the whole thing that's been brushed to make it look as if it's in some kind of aluminum chassis which is partly true, the lid is made from metal which gives the screen a nice bit of protection, but the actual base of the laptop itself is made from this really kind of flimsy plastic, and it's most noticeable in the keyboard as well, when you're actually typing, rather than having a solid plate that the keyboard sits in like a tray, it's got this. What I can only think is like a metal frame. So when you're clicking things like the a and the D keys or the symbols and to enter down the right-hand side of the keyboard, you can notice that there is a lot of flex on the actual keyboard when you're typing, and it wouldn't be noticeable for very light typists. But if you are a heavy target like me, then you will notice that the keyboard does give you a little of flex underneath now. The whole thing, though I do think, is actually built really well.

It's been put together in a really, really nice kind of fashion and I can't really see much damage happening to the laptop. Unless you are really careless, and you knock it off of the side or pull it off of the side. If you get your legs tangled around a charger, that's happened. Oh, that's! A very common issue with laptops. The overall build quality I would say, is OK the screens.

Are nice metal finish, but I'm just a little let down by the fact that the base is just made from plastic. I do think that Asus has made a conscious decision to keep the base plastic to keep down on manufacturing costs. So it's a lot cheaper to put together and therefore be able to be sold to the consumer for a lot less as well. So I don't blame them at all for really accusing to do that. The metal case on the screen is a nice touch to give that a little of extra protection, because that is probably one of the weakest spots on any kind of laptop.

If that takes a hit, then you're more than likely gonna need to replace a screen, and we also think that is actually quite a smart. Looking machine and I think it's actually one that could probably keep up with the likes of Apple with their MacBook Pros. It's the same kind of silver finish as those, although it's a little warmer rather than there's, is a little more cold and a little more I'm kind of the silver side rather than I. Don't know we'd call this not quite gold, but it does have a kind of brown tint to it, but overall yeah it does absolutely look really, really smart, and it does keep up with, as I say, a MacBook Pro and the style of a MacBook Pro as well. The keyboard does light up, so you have got backlit keys on there.

So if you are typing in the dark, or you've got bad eyesight like myself, who struggled to see keys under certain lights, then you have got the backlights there, which are pretty bright as well, and it does really help when attacking in low light level situations. So you will find a nice number of inputs on the ASUS v book as well. On the left hand, side you've got an SD card reader as well as two USB ports here and on the right hand, side. As you look at the laptop you've got your USB 3 port you've got HDMI input, which is a full size, HDMI input, so you can attach it to a television or an external monitor, and you've also got a USB here and headphone port, which doubles up as a microphone port as well. So if you want to do Skype calling or use gaming services, I'd discord or team speak you've got that there, and then you've also got a very, very small, form-factor charger at the very, very back right as well, which I do really like the placement of charges on the side, rather on the back of a laptop because it's designed to be carried around this laptop.

So it's not easier to just put it on a desk plugging straight in rather than having to fumble around the back for your ports and there probably isn't actually enough space on the back to put any ports, because it's taken up with a hinge and on the front as well. You haven't got any ports because it is ultra-thin when you get down to the front. So a nice number of ports and the actual laptop, so it's not very heavy at all, most of that way, you've actually taken up by the metal case. So if there was a metal plate on the bottom here, you would definitely notice that this will turn into a bit of a lung to carry around. But as it stands at the moment, it's actually quite a nice kind of weightless size and once you put it in a backpack and sling on your bag, they're- probably not going to notice the weight of that on your shoulders anyway, even in with the included charge, which is absolutely tiny, you're not going to notice the extra weight from the charge, you normally notice this very long on your back either.

So, let's talk about the screen, so the Asus s510 you laptop, has a 15 inch, IPS LED display, which is a 1080p resolution. The bezels on here are a little thicker than I would have liked, but the actual, left and right hand, side bezels, coming out around one centimeter with the top bezel coming in I would say: I didn't actually measure I should have moved there beforehand of Not I'm about 1.5 two centimeters or something like that, but they're a little thicker than I would have liked, and they're actually protruded from the screen itself, whereas if you think of a MacBook for example, it just looks as if it's one thin sheet, where this actually looks as if the screens been embedded within the metal chassis of the top of the laptop itself. It's not really a bad screen, there's not really anything great about it, but it performs on kind of average level. Now it doesn't go as bright as I would have liked it. To have gone to use outside is really a definite no-no, especially if you're in sunlight, because of the guy from the Sun.

In your eyes, you just not gonna, be able to see this work very well at all. Now it has got a matte coating across the front of it to really kind of reduce that glaring, which does help to some degree I mean I, can't see much glare can see a little glare from my light here, which is just literally just on that arm's length. Just here and I've got a bit up on it. Yeah listen I, don't know actually where's the glare yeah. The glare is coming from here as well, which I can see, but it's not bad.

It would be a lot worse if this was like a glass fronted screen. I get a lot more glare on my mobile phone screen, then I do actually on the laptop itself, but it's actually not really a bad finish to the screen. That's all especially when it comes to glare and things like light bulbs in your room, for example, though, what are the worst things is that this laptop only covers around 42% of the Adobe RGB color spectrum, which is a big problem when it comes to photo editors that video editors you're not going to really be able to get to accurate, color correction. When you are editing your videos or your photos, it doesn't mean that you can't use this laptop for your photo and video editing needs. You probably could get away with it.

The specifications not bad, although we'll get onto that in a minute, but the actual color reproduction of the screen isn't very, very good at all and when colors are supposed to be pretty vivid, they're, not they're a little more dull and black levels aren't as black as I think you would probably want them to be. If you are a video editor, I would say this lapse or probably avoid if you are looking for something to do your photos and videos on, but if you are using it for your everyday tasks, the contrast ratio is really nice. So if you are using it for documents web browsing, then it's absolutely fine and of course, YouTube or Facebook surfing Twitter. Anything like that. Any anything that you could put in an everyday use kind of category would be absolutely fine on this laptop.

If there's one thing that I really liked with this laptop is the fact that it's got this hinge that goes across the entire, pretty much the entire length of the base and the screen. So it just feels like such a solid kind of movement when you're, opening and closing the screen. If it was really nice, where is on my laptop by BMG I've, got hinge on the right hand, side I've got hinge on the left hand, side, and already I've had the laptop, maybe a year and a half two years, and it's already broken the screen is broken, I mean admittedly, I do use it a lot for work purposes, but at the same time, I would expect a laptop to last a lot longer than maybe a year and a half two years because of the hinge and a broken hinge on between the screen and the base. But this feels really solid if it was really nice as a bit of flex. It doesn't quite look into place like something a lot of Dell laptops.

We've just recently seen I'll leave a link in the description, but it's got a bit of a flex, and it doesn't, as I say, doesn't quite lock in which I suppose is ok, if you're going to be careful with it. But if you are opening in it to one position, then you're not going to have too much of a problem with this laptop. It actually works pretty. Well, it's taking forever to load bloody, huge engine. Some like one is rip the screen and the build quality.

You are let down by the slimline design when it comes to performance. Now the biggest problem here is the processor I said earlier that you get an i5 7200 new processors, which isn't a full size processor, it's a slimline processor, which means that you're only getting 2 core performance. Both cores are clocked at 2.5 gigahertz, however, so for everyday tasks, you're not really going to notice much of a difference when you are doing things like Word documents. Word, processing or spreadsheets internet browsing social media you're not going to notice much of a difference at all. It only comes down to when you're playing games when you're doing your photo or video editing that uses a lot of CPU power when you're doing that you're gonna start to notice the laptop slow down a little.

A saving grace to the laptop, however, is the 940 MX graphics chip that's inside from Nvidia, which enables you to play games at least on low or medium settings. Now I tried at first I tried two tests. I tried a test when I was using streaming over the internet from my Steam account, I played Assassin's Creed and I got a solid 60 frames per second guaranteed things like the colors one as good on here as they were on my desktop gaming rig Babbitt was playable, and it was really smooth, and it worked really well now. The second time I tried I played through the actual laptop itself and I can tell you that it was a completely different experience. I had to play the game at low to medium settings, and I was only getting around 25 30 frames per second.

At a few moments it jumped up to around 34 35 I noticed, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as streaming games from a gaming desktop. Now having a look online of various different titles that people have played on this laptop, and it's really the same sort of thing. You can get away with low settings medium settings, maybe not so much on now triple-a titles as they are very, very demanding of computers, but certainly on older games like as I, say: assassin's creed- it's not the most demanding game. The world Zeus Ex man, human mankind, there's another one that you could probably get away with doom on very, very low settings. Maybe you could get away with that, but you have got a laptop here that you are able to play games on it, you're just not allowed youto 're, just not able to pay them at a very high graphical setting, but it is playable.

Mobs, like I play a lot of heroes of the storm, absolutely fine playing on this League of Legends again I tried absolutely fine and data as well. Then you can probably get away on this laptop. So it's not good money when it comes to the Mobs or any older games, but higher triple-a title games that demand a lot more from PCs and laptops, then you probably won't be able to play them on here or if you can, then you're going to be playing them at very. Very low settings gain way below 30 frames per second, which can be a bit of a bit of a problem when you're playing games and causes things like lag and drop. Friends, and things like that, so I would avoid any new games with this laptop, but it has got a bit of graphical performance there to be able to play some games.

So the battery life on this laptop is superiorly average, as well only coming in around 7 hours, and that was through watching media and consuming media like Netflix and YouTube Amazon Prime. It's not really that bad. If you all going to be kept, if you're going to be carrying it around with you anyway, you're going to be inevitably going to be carrying a charger with you. So just put the charger in the bag as well, and then you won't have a problem with running out of battery, but 7 hours isn't bad for a laptop. There are certainly laptops are worse out there than 7 hours, but there are also laptops that are better and I.

Think I. Think Asus should have really made an effort to put a bigger battery in here, I'm, not sure how much space they've actually used in here, but feeling the hollow case. There's maybe a bit of spare space in now, I, don't know where the actual battery is, but because on the bottom, it's it looks up completely, there's a completely sealed unit on the bottom. So you can't even you can't even get to a battery as this laptop has been designed for people to carry around, and it's been designed to use on the move very much like a MacBook and to have that seven-hour battery life without a fresh charge. You know anything to get through a working day, an average working days 8 to 10 hours, so you're not going to get through a full working day, especially if you've got multitask soap, and you've got your screens' brightness up your watching media on your lunch break as well from what you're not gonna, get an eight-hour day out of this and I think that's a real shame as I think.

Asus have really missed a trick with their 5 book, because it would have been nice to be able to get through a day without breaking a sweat. The Asus 5 book s510. You are by no means the best laptop on the market and that's cubed down to the shaky, build quality, being a mix of aluminum and plastic for the base, and it's also subpar brightness and color reproduction of the screen. Now, if you are looking for a slimline laptop of 15 inches, this is really your only option and I don't want to say that it's a completely horrible laptop, because it's not, it's, it can do basic tasks really well. There are just certain aspects that Asus I think I've just missed a trick on the screen bonus the battery life for such a rare laptop as I, say, 15 inches, slimline laptop.

It's really it's a good attempt, I think by Asus for their first attempt at this kind of laptop. It's a really, really good at sense, especially at this price point as well for the mid-range priced lap. So yes, there are thin laptops. So if you go up to the higher is from Racer MacBook they're, pretty skinny as well now, especially as skinny as this, but for that mid-range tiered laptop. This is a perfect effort.

It can handle all of your work applications. It could handle light media consumption from Netflix and YouTube, but gaming, yes as possible and video and photo editing I, would avoid on this laptop personally, just because of the colors on the screen, but for 739 pounds that we found it for it's, not a bad price for the laptop at all, especially one. This is skinny and I think that if you are wanting a little more power, while keeping this form factor in there, you're probably going to go for something like a MacBook anyway, because it has got the much faster speck inside compared to this as well, and it is just this thing.
