Salah everybody and welcome back to the channel in today's video we're going to talk about the brand new ROG phone 5. Asus, finally unveiled their latest version of their gaming phone. In my opinion, the gold standard when it comes down to gaming phones and what every other company is trying to achieve by releasing their own version of a gaming phone, is kind of getting closer to what the ROG phone always offers. One of the things that I'm really appreciative here is the fact that they decided to bring back a feature from the ROG phone 2 that they lost with the ROG phone 3, namely a headphone jack, but not only that quad DAX supported. We also have the 6 000 milliampere battery. Now that also supports a 65 watt charger, giving us fast charging on a very fast smartphone in 2021.
This is TK, and this is the ROG phone 5. Like and subscribe and make sure you hit that bell icon so that you're always notified too. Whenever we have new videos on the channel. So this is the ROG phone five package, uh, there's going to be two different versions or three versions. In total, there's the standard, rg45, there's the kg phone five pro and then there's going to be the kg phone, five ultimate, so three different variants, although right now the first one's going to be releasing.
Is this one, the ROG phone 5. Now there's a few differences, and once we get to those differences between them, we'll go ahead and cover those for you guys. The main thing we'll definitely notice is that the design is changed a little. We have a slightly different casing here. This case actually is included in the box, which is very nice, although I personally recommend you guys picking up another case, as this is not very protective, it's more for esthetical looks now.
The backing that we have here is entirely made out of glass. We also still have those LEDs that we've seen in the past a front-facing camera. That's present right there all the way on the top right, front-facing speakers that are basically at the exact same balanced experience between the two, so the stereo speakers are louder than we had them in the past, but not only that they're also, basically equal in volume. So you're not going to get any kind of distortion, they're, basically the same just one on the top one on the bottom. When it comes down to the display, we have a 6.78 inch, 1080p uh, hdr10, hdr10 plus supported uh, basically 144 hertz display. So it's a 1080p OLED panel, and it is running at 144 hertz, similar to what we saw last year.
But we have a 300 hertz touch sampling rate here so that it gives us very good. Uh touch response as far as the actual brightness uh indoors and maximum brightness is going to be roughly about 800 nits outdoors with daylight. Of course, it's going to be up to 1200, giving us the ability of enjoying the entire UI elements that we have here again, as I mentioned to you, guys, there's going to be three different variants of this. Now all three will have the 6 000 milliampere battery, and one thing to keep in mind here is that they're using two different batteries, this time, they're using something that we've seen with the devices like Oppo in the past when they split the battery, so that they're able to charge it faster and that's how we're doing it here with the 65 watt included charger in the box, you're able to charge it from zero to almost 100 in roughly about 55 minutes or so, and that's actually ridiculously fast. Considering that this is again a 6 000 milliampere battery.
As far as the ram and configuration here's the difference, the kg phone 5 will have 256 gigs of internal UFS, 3.1 storage and 16 gigs of LP ddr5 ram. So that's the standard model and if you already think that's amazing the pro, it will also have 16 gigs uh same as the standard model, but the ultimate goes all the way up to 18 gigs of lpddr5 ram, as well as the fact that the pro and the ultimate will have a gig of internal storage with UFS, 3.1, so fast, storage and again, depending on the configuration even the base model again 16 gigs of ram and 256 gigs of internal storage is already crazy enough. Now this will support 5g in the US something to keep in mind, but it is going to be subbed 6 type of 5g, so no ultra-wideband. So just keep that in mind. So T-Mobile ATM t sub 6 is going to work perfectly fine.
The display here works perfectly nicely and, as you saw here, the fingerprint sensor is present. In there we have obviously a front-facing camera. The display does have a little of a bump. There they're not trying to go with the full display, but the main benefit here. The UI element actually looks very nice.
I have it running right now on standard mode and of course we can jump into what they're preferring configuring here. Essentially, as the configuration system, I can jump into x mode, which we've had in the past, which overclock the CPU, the GPU and, of course, optimizes gameplay. We have the ability of customizing the LEDs here under the system lighting. The fan. Speed is also configurable, as we now have a with the aero cooler 5, the ability of actually having a built-in fan on the back to cool the system as well as air triggers or triggers to be able to actually configure them.
Last but not least, we also still have a very nice little kickstand to be able to set it up in the back, and last, of course, is the additional headphone jack so that when you're playing games, you have the ability of routing your USB-C cable from here, as well as the headphone jack to the bottom. So you don't have to rely on the bottom headphone jack or this USB-C connection keep in mind also that the side is normally covered. I removed the cover here, and you can see the pin connector for the dock, and this USB will support the HDMI out, so you're able to actually use the display or the actual display mirror functionality to an external display using this with the stock and, of course, any other accessory that mirrors the display for us air triggers can be configured now again. As I mentioned, we still have those two sensitive triggers that are present at the top, and we also still have the ability of actually using the uh the squeeze functionality. As you can see right there.
It shows it right there one thing to keep in mind, and you'll notice there and wood it up, and when you do the squeeze the correct way, it jumps back into x, mode you're able to change that. But for me right now, this is pretty much what I'm doing, I'm actually turning off and turning on x mode. You can also do that, of course, from the notification panel, as we have that button there again, 5g is present there. We have screenshot airplane mode, normal configuration, it is running, android 11. Out of the box, so that's also something to keep in mind system lighting.
Here, that's going to be the ribs in the back air triggers you can configure and turn them off there nearby, sharing all the normal things and everything else. As far as the actual system was pretty good, I did receive one update since I've had the device we have theming and wallpapers, and there's actually a few nice options that they were actually nice enough to put in the actual package. So as I'm showing you guys right now, when you open up the box, you'll notice that there's some graphical uh representation here for a nice little game inside and as you can see right now with the little video that I'm sharing with you guys, you're able to actually set it up at the beginning when you're using it, you choose the style of box that you have, and you're able to see the different animations there and create an avatar using the theme of your device. Now, as far as the actual charger that comes in the box, this is going to be again a 65 watt charger, and it is an USB and, of course, us style. So all you have to do there.
They are advertising it to go from zero to 100 in about 51 minutes, and I actually did drain the battery, and unfortunately I wasn't able to get exactly 51, but I was a little over that still within the hour and, of course, giving us the ability of staying topped off uh. Just again, the massive six thousand milliampere battery will not run out. But if you are in the situation where you need to charge it, it will charge up quite fast uh. We do have NFC, of course, here it does support it and as far as the actual sensors that we have here on the back, the primary sensor is going to be a 64 megapixel sensor and that's going to be our standard main Sony imx686. The secondary sensor is going to be a 13 megapixel sensor and that's going to be a basically 125 ultra-wide angle lenses and the last one is going to be a 5 megapixel macro lens.
Dual tone led flash of course, one of the microphones and as far as the front, we have a 24 megapixel sensor. Now when it comes down to the video side of it, we're going to be able to get 1080p 60 on the front facing camera and all the way up to 8k 30 frames per second on the back facing sensor with 4k 60 support. Of course, there is ability to do in time-lapse. Slow motion, panoramic motion tracking pro video, of course, pro imagery night photography as well as macro to activate that sensor. Just keep in mind that this is a basically just a five megapixel macro lens.
As far as the overall experience with the camera, as you can see, images do come out pretty good in good lighting, and I think overall, the camera itself is actually pretty decent as long as you're able to use it, and you can jump into promo to be able to control it a little more now when it comes down to video, as I mentioned, 1080p 60 on the front and 8k on the back, let's go ahead and show well, let me show you guys a quick sample of that. So first things we're going to start with is the front-facing sensor here on the rg5 first thing: we'll notice is that no 4k, no 8k? All of that is going to be focused on the primary sensor on the back uh 1080p 60 frames per second are going to be the maximum we can get here, but this should be a good example. We have a crow in the background, as well as some birds on the back flying around so hopefully a good example of how the audio and, of course the video is from the front facing camera on the brand new ROG phone 5. Switching over to the primary sensor on the back and of course, we are able to go all the way up to 8k, although I feel like 8k is more for nature. So I'm doing this one in 4k, 60 frames per second at the highest resolution that I feel like would be the most usable for us for social media or even creating content for our phones.
But if you want to be able to shoot an AK, this is definitely going to work now, the stabilization mode that we have here only works at 1080p. So if you hit that stabilized video it crops in from the 4k to give us a really nice buttery, smooth, stabilized, uh, basically 1080p video, there's a quick sample of that stabilized video again keep in mind.1080P is gonna, be the maximum resolution uh. The reason why I'm walking is so that we can show that this is stabilized and held and, as you saw there, you have the ability of using standard, video or even stabilized video, since we're able to shoot all the way up to 8k. It actually does a decent job of stabilizing the video there and with the quad mic setup that we have on the actual phone. It actually sounds pretty good.
Let's go ahead and listen to those stereo speakers that are again um equally balanced. So let's go ahead and play jumbo by Alex credo. I have the volume set to 100, let's dive in, as you heard there, the sound is really nice now keep in mind that the stereo speakers are balanced, and we also have the ability of jumping in and customizing the Dirac music theme here. So essentially, what has given us the ability to customize between dynamic music cinema game, and you can also just go in there and customize the EQ to your personal liking and, of course, just make your own preferences in there very, very nice. If you have a headphone jack that it plugged into it, you're also able to customize the actual ear or listening experience, you'll notice, it recognized my headphones.
This is the EQ that I set up. It automatically turned it on and of course it has everything set up, and I can also customize it based on headphones or earpieces if I'm using original, ROG or ASUS headphones directly, but other than that, it's pretty easy once you remove it, it goes back to standard mode, and this is the configuration for the speakers, and this is the configuration for my headset that I've pre-configured from the past, so it will automatically recognize it, and it does a very good job of doing that for us now. I'm pretty sure you guys want to start talking about gaming. This is a gaming phone. After all, that's the whole purpose of this phone.
So obviously in the middle right here there's a couple of things we can do. We can either jump into the notification shade and press and hold the x mode. That takes us in here and go ahead and reduce the volume there and that's pretty much. The simple easiest way to be able to jump in into your gaming system the other option. Of course, the default theme has one sitting right there for us clicking.
It takes us straight in uh, studio shortcut was already put in there Call of Duty mobile. I installed ken shin impact asphalt, 9, PUBG mobile, modern combat versus and, of course, CSR racing 2. We are also able to configure the different profiles we have x mode, which is the profit, the professional level, one again running everything at the max and giving you the best experience on the smartphone dynamic changes a little optimized performance for daily use, ultra durable, preserving, preserving power as much as possible, so reduces some performance to give you a much longer battery life, but again, six thousand milliampere no issue advanced is typically what you're running when you turn off x mode. So if effects mode is turned off advanced is by default. The profile that you're on and once I turn on x mode, you'll notice, right there it's going to jump over to x mode, and it applies it.
You can go in there and customize it go in further, so you can change the refresh rate by default. It's set to 120, I moved it up to 144, and it basically pushes everything up to the top again giving you that 300 hertz refresh rate compatibility- and it actually sounds- and it works really, really nice you're able to set up your profile in their groups, topics and, of course, featured if you want to be able to connect with anybody. So all of these things are pretty much set once you want to basically jump into the game. It's pretty simple, just go ahead and select the game, and you'll notice that it'll start kicking in game. Engine is turning on mode, and it starts activating it and, at this point, you're pretty much ready to start gaming, keep in mind that you obviously have access to the entire menu system.
Here, on the left. First thing: you'll notice that you have a persistent frame per second notification, so you can always see exactly what the frame rate is. Uh, the CPU level, the temperature, as well as this x mode, is on or off the ability of also adjusting the brightness level going into the settings tab. You have the ability of customizing. Of course, the air triggers there are three different levels now: motion controls are also able to basically turn on to be able to get that motion sensitive options here with the bigger display.
We also have the ultrasonic buttons and those are the ones on the top right and left you'll notice right there. I have them sitting here, and the nice thing is that you're able to customize them based on profiles on the game, so it recognizes the game, and it creates a profile. If you want to edit it, you can edit it and then save another one here, and it'll also give you the ability of naming it, so you're, also able to kind of get that you know customization working now the cooler buttons, because the kg phone 5 does not have the same touch sensitive buttons on the back. The way the rg45 ultimate has you're able to basically use this configuration. These are the two buttons that once you have it set up on the back once you have that configured you'll be able to turn them on and then, of course, configure the additional buttons.
So now we have four buttons running on the back and again these are going to be the four that are sitting in the back. You do have a kickstand if you want to be able to use a controller like another wireless controller, that's going to work perfectly fine, but if you're going to play with it, you can actually customize them directly from here. So you have a lot of options that you can customize and, of course you can change it to basically be either a tab or turn off. If you don't want to use it keep in mind, all of these are done per game basis. So if you customize them for CSR, it'll change by the time you jump over to the pub g or even Call of Duty mode, but I'm pretty sure you guys are really interested in seeing how the gaming experience is on this phone.
Let's go ahead and jump into some of that me. Hmm, hmm! So hmm! So! Oh me, oh my! What do we have here? It's just said your prayers. There's no question that the ROG phone 5 will be able to handle anything we throw at it. We have the latest processor. We have 16 gigs of internal ram there as well as 256 gigs of internal storage, a very fast 65 watt charger, 6000 milliampere battery, literally every single point that a gamer or a person, that's looking for being able to play on a phone for an extended amount of time is covered here we even have the aero cooler 5 that enables us to actually play games for much longer.
Helping us also manage some thermal concerns. What I mean by this essentially is obviously any smartphone that you use for an extended amount of time will get warm. The kg phone 5 is no exception and obviously the aero cooler helps us there to reduce the temperatures on the actual smartphone. So to help us manage it, and performance actually does become more consistent over time frame rates on this actually stayed pretty consistent. Now, PUBG.
I wasn't able to get anything more than 60 frames per second, and I think that's mostly because this is a brand-new phone, so keep in mind as more developers optimize their devices to work on the kg phone. Five we'll start seeing more performance improvements there now shadow gun legends did give me the ability of playing the game at 144hz, which is actually very exciting. That's one of the things I really appreciated there so again, depending on the game, you're going to get a different kind of experience. But overall, I think the best experience that you're going to be able to get on a gaming phone today will be on a kg phone five and maybe even better on a ROG phone five ultimate- and I don't have access to that one, but my buddy over on DA does have one. His name is Michel, and he was able to basically put in his own review on there.
I'll give you guys a link to that if you guys are interested to know more about the ultimate version of the ROG phone five. Let me know in the comments below what do you guys think of the ROG phone five uh, in my opinion, as an owner of the kg phone five? Well, the ROG phone 2 for a long time I feel like this is the evolutionary upgrade that I wanted to see. Last year with the ROG phone 3. , we didn't lose the headphone jack last year. I felt like that was some point of a change that I didn't think was necessary.
Gaming on a smartphone should always have a headphone jack because of that zero latency and, of course, now supported with a quad DAC optimizes and gives us the belief enjoying music as well as actually content on the smartphone in a very, very nice way. The speakers are great. The headphone jack is great. The battery life is extended and really, really nice and, of course, the latest and greatest specs from ASUS as well as Qualcomm when it comes down to the cameras. I think the overall experience here is actually good.
It's not going to be the best camera on the market, but I don't think this phone is trying to shoot for that they're trying to be the best gaming phone there is and for that they've achieved it with the base model, which is the ROG phone five again, the r245 pro, as well as the ultimate are going to give you even more I'm talking about actually having a small display on the back of the phone having trigger control on the back of the actual smartphone itself and much, much more on top of the fact going, all the way up to 16 gigs of ram and 512 internal storage. So again this device screams speed. Let me know what you guys think like and subscribe as usual. Thank you very much for the support and, of course, I'll see you guys in the next one.
