2019 iPad Mini 5 vs 2019 iPad Air - Why I Returned the Air!

What's up guys, my name is Brandon. Just a few weeks ago, I went into the Apple Store to pick up the brand-new iPads, the iPad Mini 5th generation and the iPad Air 3rd generation, which you can see, is missing from the picture here and that's what this video is all about, and I want to buy both of these iPads, not because I'm, some major iPad user, and you know in fact I'll admit that I don't really use iPads very often. Maybe you know two or three times a week, even though I do have the awesome, 20:18 12 point 9-inch iPad Pro here, but anyways I wanted to see if either the iPad Air or the iPad Mini could impress me enough to use long term and times when my iPad Pro may not be as ideal because of its massive size. And, of course, as you can see from the title, and we see on the screen right now, I was not impressed with the iPad Air, at least not as much as I was with the iPad Mini and I wanted to make this video to explain to you guys why that is so. First, the iPad Air and the iPad Mini are nearly identical in every single aspect, except for these size, the physical traits, the iPad Air, is like a blown-up iPad Mini. It's like an iPad Mini filled with air.

If you will, it has a 10 point, 5 inch display compared to the iPad Mini 7.9 inch display and that 2.6 inches may seem small, but it makes a big difference when using them in your hand and holding them in your hand, not to mention the iPad. Mini is significantly lighter, 156 grams lighter to be exact, and that is even more noticeable than the screen size. So, given that the iPad Air and the iPad Mini are nearly identical aside from the physical attributes like the size and the weight, why did I decide to choose and keep the iPad Mini here over the iPad Air and given that I, currently only 2018 12.9-inch iPad Pro? Why did I even keep the iPad Mini in the first place? I mean this thing is obviously you know going to blow every other iPad out of the water when it comes to performance and pretty much everything else, and it looks so much newer. So why did I even keep the iPad Mini? Well, as I just mentioned, the compact size and the light weight is the number one reason I chose the iPad Mini over the iPad Air. The good old iPad Mini just fits a different niche than the iPad Air or the iPad Pro.

Do the compact size and display of the iPad Mini paired with the super, powerful a12, Bionic chip and three gigabytes of RAM makes it a compact powerhouse that you can literally take anywhere I mean yeah sure you can technically take a 10.5 inch or even at twelve point. Nine inch I pad anywhere you go, but sometimes you don't want or need such a massive display. For example, the two times I traveled, with my twelve point, nine-inch iPad Pro here I was wishing it wasn't. So big I didn't like how much room it took up. You know in my bag when I had it in my suitcase or my carry-on or the fact that everyone on the plane could literally see what I was doing on my screen, because it was so big and so bright and those were times when I wish I had an iPad, Mini Pro.

But now in 2019 we had the closest thing to that with the iPad Mini five here, just with bezels and a headphone jack included and no Apple Pencil to support, of course, which sucks. But it's still the closest thing we have to a compact, Pro iPad. So, yes, portability is clearly the number one reason I decided to keep the iPad Mini over the iPad Air. But it's also because gaming on the iPad Mini is surprisingly a better experience for a long while, actually ever since they want of owning the 2018 iPad Pro here, I love gaming on it, I absolutely loved it and I did not want a game on any other screen, any smaller screen, any bigger screen, any other iPad any phone. Anything I was set on the iPad Pro because it was so good, but once I started playing pub G and fortnight on the iPad Mini here, I almost instantly realized how much better I like it on the iPad Mini, the big screen on the iPad Air and the iPad Pro is nice, because you can see a lot of the map and games like pub G and fortnight, but you find yourself not being able to press the buttons or move around as easily as you can on a smaller device like the iPad Mini, not to mention it's super difficult to hold the iPad Air or the iPad Pro in the air, with both hands and game.

Without your hands. Getting exhausted. You have to use like a Smart Cover case like you, can see. I have right here to prop it up, or, of course you can just lay the tablet on its back and game with your head. You know over the top of the screen, which will of course hurt your neck as well, but with the mini, it's so light that you can easily hold it up with two hands and play which makes a big difference for at least me when it comes to.

You know intense gunfights and things like that, where you really need to be close to your screen and I, don't know what it is: I just like being able to hold it with two hands in the air and have it close to my face. I just feel more in control of the games and basically what I'm doing on the screen. So it's hard to explain unless you game on these two devices yourself, which of course you can do if you go to the Apple Store but I, just like it better I just enjoy the experience better. At least four shooters on the iPad Mini. The screen is also a huge factor here with something like the 2018 iPad.

You can only run games like fortnight at 30fps and medium graphics, and even then, even when you play it like that, you have stuttering issues, but with the iPad minute you can run smoothly at 60 frames per second on high graphics and never have any hiccups or any lag or stutter, or anything like that and what's crazy, is that the gaming on the 2018 iPad Pro yields pretty much the same graphics and results as the iPad Mini does. Since games like fortnight and pub G basically capped the iPad Pro out at the same specs that you can get on the iPad, Mini, 60, fps and high graphics. Now, of course, the screen quality and the overall smoothness on that 120 Hertz screen you see here on the iPad Pro, of course, will be slightly better, but it's not going to be worth more than double the price at $1000. Unless, of course, you do have the budget for it, and you don't mind not being able to hold. You know the iPad up in the air with two hands for long periods of time, while you're gaming.

Now, if you want me to compare the gaming on the iPad Mini and the iPad Pro here, if you want me to make like a full in depth, video, let me know, and I may make a dedicated video comparing these two when it comes to gaming but yeah. Overall, the iPad Air is just a heavier bigger, iPad Mini, and it doesn't make any sense to get that if you care at all about gaming or holding your tablet for long periods of time and the mini also just makes so much more sense if you want to travel with your tablets now on the flip side, if you're like a college student or something like that- and you take notes, if you only take notes and maybe watch some, you know media on there like Netflix or Hulu, then I would recommend a mint-condition 2017 iPad Pro for less than $500, which is what the new iPad Air starts at. So I, don't know just for the price of $500. The iPad Air just doesn't make a lot of sense, given the other options out there on the market right now so yeah. Those are the reasons why I returned my iPad Air but decided to keep the iPad Mini to use in tandem with my iPad Pro here.

Of course, I will be using my iPad Pro for tons of things here at home, but when it comes to gaming, I am going to game a lot more on the iPad Mini when it comes to note-taking- and you know drawing and things like that. Of course, I will use the iPad Pro for that when it comes to traveling I'll definitely be taking the iPad Mini instead of the iPad Pro I feel like the iPad. Pro is just more of a stay at home tablet, whereas the iPad Mini is gonna, be much better for you know, taking in the car taking on planes and things like that, and that's really what I was going for here. I wanted to have an alternative to the iPad Pro, because it is so massive, and I did have such a bad, not really a bad experience, but I. Just wished at another tablet when I was traveling on the plane, with this big guy, so the iPad Mini fits that bill perfectly and that's why I'm going to have it side-by-side with my iPad Pro here for a long time to come so yeah I hope you guys did enjoy this video if you did make sure hit that thumbs up button.

Let me know what you guys think about these iPads. Do you have an iPad which iPad do you have? What do you think about the gaming, the performance all that fun stuff and, of course, make sure you guys do subscribe, and we'll be doing a more long-term review on the iPad Mini here as well? So definitely stay tuned for that video and yeah. That's pretty much gonna. Do it guys, thanks again for watching, and I'll see you soon.
