2019 Apple iPad Air 3 vs Microsoft Surface Go

What is up folks how's it going. This watch hope you guys are all doing well, and today we're going to give you guys. Another tablet comparison with the new iPad Air versus probably one of the most affordable, yet capable tablets on the market. Right now, the Microsoft Surface go now. I essentially got the surface, go for around 362. And that's a lot cheaper than the 499 starting price of the cheapest configuration of the new iPad Air.

Now we're going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages specifically, but first I want to shout out ESR gear. com for sponsoring this video. If you want some of the best front to back protection for the new generation, iPad airs and minis, it's an excellent solution. We're going to talk about the cases in a little, but in terms of these two tablets themselves, you can see from a footprint and dimensional standpoint, they're very similar, there's about a half inch screen size difference, and when we take a look at the side profiles, you are going to notice that the surface go is a little thicker at 8.3, millimeters versus 6.1 millimeters on the iPad and the iPad is also quite a bit lighter at 456 grams versus 522 grams. On the surface now, in terms of the external ports and connectivity options, both have 3.5 millimeter, headphone jacks, but the surface go has an USB and a SD expansion slot at the back. So if you want to expand the storage, which is definitely a nice feature, especially if you're just getting the baseline 64 gigabyte versions like we have over here now, both have onboard stereo speakers, and they're, both very similar in terms of overall volume that the speakers can produce.

But I did found that the level of clarity and overall bass response was a little better on the iPad Air. Compared to the surface. Go now coming back to the displays themselves. We mentioned there's only about a half inch difference between the two uh with the iPad Air, having the slightly larger display and even though the resolution and overall pixel density count on the iPad Air is higher. You're.

Looking about 265 PPI versus about 217 PPI on the surface go in real life, there isn't a huge difference in terms of overall clarity and sharpness. There is a difference in terms of color rendition and brightness. I did encounter that the brightness on the iPad Air, especially in outdoor conditions, is a certainly little bit more luminous and the color rendition is a little more accurate and doesn't have the dramatic color shifts that we encounter with the surface go now with that said, uh keep in mind that the surface go is basically a scaled down version of the Surface Pro 6, so we still have the pixel sense technology. It's still very good in terms of 10 point multi-touch capacitive touch it's compatible with the surface pen as well as things like the surface dial. So if you want to use other implements, it's basically just a mini version of their higher end Surface Pro tablet scale down to a specific budget and the display semi reflects that to some extent.

Now, with that, the surface go is also still compatible with a great array of accessories that Microsoft has to offer, including their smart keyboard attachment, as well as the surface pen, as we mentioned before, so for anybody in a limited budget. Looking for a laptop replacement. This is definitely an excellent solution coupled with the keyboard attachment and since it runs essentially a full version of the windows operating system. It definitely is a lot more capable than the iOS 12 oses found on the iPad Air. Now I do have to add the caveat.

It is capable in terms of software, but there are some serious hardware limitations that we have to address, but before we talk about that, I just want to talk about the ESR cases that made this video possible now. Firstly, I want to talk about the excellent tempered glass screen protectors that ESR offers I've used them in the past, and they're very solid saved me. A couple of different displays a number of times, and the great thing about them is that it comes with a free applicator. So you basically clean off the display with the provided tools given to you in the packaging and then use this template to actually exactly fit the screen protector directly onto your specific device, making the application of the screen protector super simple and straightforward and relatively fast. I actually did this in less than three and a half minutes, and after taking out all the air bubbles, you're gonna barely notice that there's anything on there.

It has a NATO plated, oleo phobic coating, similar to the actual coating on the iPad itself, but you're going to get an extra layer of protection, and that's definitely important for a high-end device like this now in terms of the ESR cases themselves for the new generation iPad Air. We have three examples from them: uh two are based on the trifold out design and one is based off of the folio design. All three of these gave excellent front to back protection. On the trifold side, you have the option to go with a softer, flexible, thinner, overall backing or one that has a harder thicker polycarbonate backing for a little added protection, but my favorite case probably has to be the urban premium folio case it offers certainly the most amount of protection, I'm digging the blue and gray color scheme that we have over here. It has a nice anti-slip coating on the surface level as well and plus, using as a stand, is super nice and convenient, especially for watching videos or propping up the iPad.

If you need to please check out the description down below for more details about these cases or visit ESR gear. com to get some of the best cases on the market for all the latest greatest smartphones and tablets, now coming back to the main comparison at hand over here, as we mentioned before, there are some serious limitations and compromises that the surface go has, and one of the reasons why it's so cheap is that it's very under powered. It's powered by a dual-core intel, Pentium processor, specifically the 44 15y, has a clock, speed of about 1.6 gigahertz, and it has an integrated intel, HD, 615, graphics. In terms of ram. You can either get eight or four gigabyte versions.

If you get the baseline configuration like we did, and we also have 64 gigabytes of internal memory. Luckily, we do have that micro, SD expansion slot, so we can expand the memory fairly easily. Now the new generation iPad Air is superior technically in pretty much every way you can imagine the new Apple A12, bionic processor has six cores comprised of four high efficiency cores and a two performance cores. You have four core graphics as well as three gigabytes of ram, and you have fixed internal storage configuration comprising 64 to 256 gigabytes, and if we take a look at some of the benchmarks that we can do, which is really only geek bench for the time being uh the a12 bionic is many fold faster than the dual-core Pentium processor. As you can see, the surface go is only getting around 1400 points in terms of single core and about 3 600 points in terms of multi-core performance versus on the iOS platform.

The iPad Air is getting over 4 700 points just on the single core performance and over 11 000 points on the multi-core performance. So this is completely annihilating anything from a hardware, uh specification standpoint that the surface ago can deliver. Moreover, if we take a look at the camera configuration on the front facing side, we have five megapixel stills on the surface versus seven megapixels and uh on the backside. Even though we have the same overall sensor size in terms of resolution, both can shoot.8, megapixel, stills 1080p at 30fps. The camera on the iPad definitely renders out details and colors definitely a little more accurately.

The autofocusing system is a lot faster and more snappy, and it's generally gonna result in better looking images nine times out of ten. Lastly, talking about the battery performance in terms of capacity, we have 30.2 watt hours on the iPad Air versus 26 watt hours on the surface go so the surface go definitely has the smaller battery, and it's also quite a lot more power hungry in terms of the Windows 10 operating system. Now, even though we're running down the slightly streamlined scale down version of the windows, 10 operating system, specifically windows, 10 s, it's still a lot more power hungry than the iOS platform, and from my personal experience I can barely squeeze out six hours of usage, even though Microsoft claims about nine hours of battery life on the iPad. On the other hand, we can get well over all day, a battery performance uh. Most people get anywhere between nine and ten hours as apple claims, which is definitely something you can consistently experience on the new iPad Air.

So, in terms of battery life, definitely the iPad is the winner and therefore, to sum up everything we've talked about thus far. The surface go certainly has a lot of potential capabilities, but is always going to be limited due to its hardware limitations and for anybody, that's serious into productivity, or perhaps even media creation, and things like that, it's probably going to upgrade to either the Surface Pro 6 or a real laptop, but for people just wanting to surf the web watch YouTube videos perhaps do a little of Microsoft. Office word processing excel things like that. This is definitely a very usable machine, certainly for students. This would still be great and definitely a lot more capable due to the fact, it's running a full windows operating system than the iOS platform that the iPad is based on.

But that being said, the iPad from a multimedia standpoint is definitely a lot more capable has the much faster internal processing, so you can definitely do some video editing photo editing. Has the better camera has the slightly better display, as well as a lot better battery life based on our experience and therefore, even though you're paying about 130 dollars more, I think you're definitely getting a lot more from a hardware perspective on the new generation iPad Air than this current generation surface go. Hopefully that gave you guys some sort of idea on how these two compare against each other. Definitely love to hear your thoughts on which tablet, specifically in the market, you think, has the best offer in terms of value capabilities everything I like that. I want to give a huge shout out to ESR gear.

com for making this video possible without them. This wouldn't be available to you guys and most of all, I want to thank you guys so much for your support. Thank you.
