11-inch vs 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro (2021) - Unboxing & Comparison!

What's up guys, my name is Brandon, and here are the 2021 m1 iPad Pro. So in this video we're going to be unboxing, both the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch along with the white magic keyboard, we're going to be comparing the screen size of these two kind of tell you guys, which one I think you should get we're. Also, going to do some benchmarks, because we do also have one with eight gigabytes of ram and one with 16 gigabytes of ram. So we'll talk about all that and more along with my first impressions in this video. So just like my iMac unboxing, we're not going to waste any time. We're going to go ahead and get straight into the unboxing of these iPads and by the way, if you guys missed the iMac unboxing, it is up in the cards and down in the description below.

I did just upload that before this video, so anyways we have the iPad pros. Here again, I do have an 11 inch and a 12.9 inch. The 11 inch is the 5g equipped, and it's also the one terabyte variant, which means that it has 16 gigabytes of ram versus the 12.9 inch right here, which I got in the 256 gigabyte variant, Wi-Fi only which has eight gigabytes of ram, so we're going to box, the mac- father, not really the mac father, but the higher tier 11 inch right here first, so we have that easy, peel tab, just like we had on the iMac and in past iPads as well, so we're going to take the top off just like so, and we have our iPad right here. We also have a pamphlet inside with our big apple sticker and our USB to USB plug and, of course, we do have the power brick as well. We're going to set all this off to the side and look straight at the iPad here.

So we do have this plastic covering over top, and I did get this in the space gray model as well. I got silver on the 12.9 inch, we'll be able to see both colors in this video as well. So here is the iPad Pro again. Not much has changed from the 2020 model. It's going to have pretty much the exact same design, especially the 11 inch, because we don't have the mini LED screen like we have on the 12.9 inch we're going to compare those displays in this video as well and just looking around this iPad. I don't actually see anything changed on the exterior versus the 2020 model, so we have the same four speakers, grilles, two up top and two on the bottom right there.

We do have some extra antenna bands right here, because this is the cellular model which does include 5g this year. So we're going to set this to the side for a second and unbox, the 12.9 inch model now and then compare them. I will also compare these models, or at least a 12.9 inch model to the 2020 version, as well side by side to see if there's a difference in the screen. So let's go ahead and unbox this, so the unboxing experience is going to be the exact same. The exact same accessories are included in the box.

The only difference in the 12.9 inch and the 11-inch model are going to be the display, obviously the size of the display and also the liquid retina Dr. The mini LED display on the 12.9 inch model. That's what's going to make a lot of people convert from an 11 inch to a 12.9 inch this year, because the quality of the screen will be better. So we'll talk about that more later in this video, let's go and take this off, and you can see here. I did get this in the silver color, so you can see the difference in silver and space gray, and now we have the white magic keyboard, which does include a trackpad and a full keyboard.

This is a must-have accessory for the iPad Pro. In my opinion, it is pricey, but it is an absolute necessity. In my opinion, if you have an iPad Pro, no matter what you use, that iPad Pro 4. Wow, this is very white and it kind of has me concerned about how it's going to handle dirt and grime and smudging. So you know my black one.

I sat down a lot. I've dropped it, it's gotten dirt on it, and it actually like shows through the black, sometimes so it'll, be very interesting to see how this you know holds up after maybe a year or six months of usage. So I will definitely include a little tidbit about this in my follow-up review on these m1 iPad pros, when I do a longer term review, because that's going to be very interesting to see, so you can see, we have the trackpad right there and the keys right here very, very white. Again, I'm very curious to see how this is going to do against dirt and grime. So I did get the white magic keyboard for the 12.9 inch model just because that is my preferred size, and that of course, is going to be the one with the best display this year. So we're going to go ahead and put it in there.

It is silver, so it looks even better with this white right here, even though you can't really see you can kind of see the edges of the iPad, but there's what it looks like inside the white magic keyboard case love it. So we're going to set that off to the side for now, and we're going to go ahead and boot up both the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch model. So, while we're doing that, I do want to talk about the pricing for these iPad Pro, so the 12.9 inch model starts at 10.99 for 128 gigabytes and goes all the way up to 2 terabytes for 21.99 and the 11-inch models start at 7.99 for 128 gigabytes, and it goes all the way up to 2 terabytes for 18.99, and you can also add 5g connectivity for an additional 200 on a top and wow. Just from the startup screen this white startup screen, I can actually tell the difference in the 12.9 inch and the 11-inch the screen the quality of the screen. Thanks to that liquid retina Dr display the mini LED display on the 12.9 inch, so we'll have to wait and see how much more of a difference it makes with like the blacks and the colors, but from the whites alone. There's definitely a noticeable difference with the naked eye, and here we are on the next screen and I can see a difference again.

The white is just really shining through. The contrast is just deeper. I don't know, there's just something about it. It just looks so much better, just right away now, don't get me wrong. The display on the 11 inch is good.

It's just when you have these side by side. You can tell a difference and see that this mini LED display is superior all right, so we're going to go ahead through the setup process right here on the 12.9 inch model, so we're going to select our country as United States. We do also have the quick start. So if you have another device nearby or your old iPad, you could just do a quick start and kind of transfer all the data over very easily, with one press of a button pretty much to this new iPad, but I'm going to set this up as a new one. So I'm just going to set it up manually here.

We're going to go ahead and connect to my Wi-Fi. So we just have our data and privacy screen right here. We're just going to continue on to that. Now we have face ID, so we do want to go ahead and set up face ID on at the initial startup. So we're going to go ahead to continue, and we have a new 120 degree fields of view on the new iPads this year.

So a much bigger field of view so that front facing camera. It's also 12 megapixels versus 7 megapixels on the 2020 model, so you're going to be able to get more of your face and view without having to back the iPad up a ton. So I'm going to do my second scan here for face id is complete. Let's continue we're going to create a passcode, I'm just going to use zeros for the sake of this video, and now we get the prompt to restore from a backup like an iCloud backup or from my computer, but I'm going to set mine up as new, so I'm just going to do don't transfer apps and data. Now we need to sign in to our Apple ID, and now we have our express settings right here.

You can customize those if you want, but express is honestly just the way to go, just go to continue, and it says, keep your iPad up to date. We're going to continue on that to automatically install software updates when they come. We have Apple Pay right here, so you can continue or set that up later, I'm going to set mine up later in settings, and now we have Siri. So I do like using Siri. So I'm just going to continue on this and prove Siri dictation.

You can share your audio recordings to help improve Siri or dictation, I'm not going to I'm just going to do not know. Now we have screen time which I do like using it's the same as on the iPhone and the mac source can continue on that app analytics. If you want to share know what developers crash logs and things like that, you can do so right here, I'm just going to do don't share. Then we have true tone display. You can see what it looks like with and without true tone display right there.

So I actually like true tone on, and I'm just going to continue. You can't change it right there, but you can change it later in settings. Now we get the option for light or dark mode. We don't actually get the option for auto right here on the startup screen like we did for the iMac, but we're just going to do it for light right now, and now we are done, it says, welcome to iPad, and here we are on the home screen of the 2021 m1 iPad. So now I'm just going to set up the 11-inch model right here then we're going to compare these sides and kind of just talk about the difference in screen size you can see here.

I have this quick setup. I could do right there, so I can bypass the initial screen here on the 11 inch. So we're going to scan this right here and man just holding the 11 inch. Now it feels so much smaller. I mean when you think, 1.9 inches. You don't really think that big, but like just holding the 12.9 inch and then going back to the 11 inch, the 11-inch just seems tiny. I mean I could just like manhandle this thing, whereas the 12.9 inch have to be careful with because it's so much heavier and just bigger in the hand, so really a big difference. But let's, let's finish this up real, quick, and then I'll talk about more of the differences and kind of which one I actually prefer all right.

So as for the size comparison, I definitely prefer the 12.9 inch myself, especially when it's in a magic keyboard like this. It really just feels like more of a laptop than an iPad which I like, and especially when I'm like traveling, when I'm watching movies, or especially when I'm gaming, that bigger display is so much more necessary like with the 11 inch. I say only get the 11 inch. If you, maybe you know, take notes if you use it a lot for school work, if you do it for a lot of just basic things. Web browsing things like that.

If you don't game on it, if you don't do any type of you know professional work on, if you don't do any type of creative work on it, then go with the 11 inch. It's so much lighter it's so much smaller, and obviously you know the screen of the 12.9 inch display is better this year, and it is noticeable when you have them side by side. But if you didn't have them side by side, you would not be able to tell a difference. The display on the 11 inch is more than enough for most people, but with that being said, there are definitely times when I wish. I had an 11-inch model.

You know I've been using the 2020 iPad Pro and I only have that in a 12.9 inch model, and there have been several occasions where I wished it was lighter. I wished it was smaller. I wish I didn't need to lug all this around, because it is a pretty big difference. Furthermore, I mean, when you hold these side by side, there's a pretty big difference in the weight and just the real estate that they take up in terms of the actual screen. So there have been times again when I'm not gaming, when I'm not doing any type of creative work like video, editing or photo editing where I just wish.

I had the 11 inch, so it really just comes down to what you actually use the iPad for, and I may go into more depth. If you guys want me to like a video specifically on these two sizes and which one I think you should get so let me know if you guys want to see a more in-depth video about that, and I'll show more comparisons like in actual apps, and things like that. Now, when it comes to the performance of these new iPads, we have the m1 chip inside the iPad pros this year, which is far superior to the a12 z chip in the 2020 model and pretty much in any other model of iPhone or iPad. Just because it is the m series chip. So you can see here.

We loaded up geek bench 5 on all three devices, and you can see the difference there in the processor and the memory. So on the far right, we have the 2020 iPad Pro which, as you can see, it has six gigabytes of ram. Then, on the far left, we have the 12.9-inch m1 iPad Pro, which has eight gigabytes of ram and then right in the middle. We have the one terabyte model of the 11-inch iPad Pro, which has 16 gigabytes of ram and take a look at these results. I mean wow, the 2020 iPad Pro just got absolutely demolished, especially in that multi-core.

It's almost double in the multi-core and significantly higher in the single core. What's interesting is that the 8 gigabyte and the 16 gigabyte of ram variants of the m1 iPad Pro scored, almost even which is kind of expected, because ram is really only going to make a difference when you have a lot of applications open or when you're, adding a lot of layers to something and like a video editing or photo editing application, but when it comes to benchmarks or just raw speed, they're going to be exactly the same, but nonetheless some very interesting results here and if you guys want to see a more in-depth speed test and more about the 8 gigabyte for 16 gigabytes of ram iPads. Let me know in a comment below now when it comes to the quality of the display. Of course, this year we have the new mini LED screen, which apple is calling the liquid retina Dr, and that is only on the 12.9 inch model. The 11-inch model has the same display as the 2020 iPad Pro, which is still good, but obviously, when we have mini led it's very close to like OLED quality without being OLED.

So we're going to do some tests here to see if there's actually a big difference in the quality of these two, so we're going to go to this site right here, testcolor. com actually just kidding. That was not the site. I expected it to be, but anyways we have an all white screen here. So we have white on white, and I want you guys to see the difference in the two right here when it comes to different colors.

So we have white just an all white screen right here, and it may be hard over video to see the difference. But the white is much more clear. It's much more clearly white and brighter on the liquid retina Dr display, and if we go to black, it's the same deal, and we are going to turn this all the way up as well we're going to turn the brightness all the way up and man this display gets so bright on this liquid retain Dr display this mini LED display all right. So now, let's talk a little more about the display comparison between the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch model, which does have that mini LED display. So I'm going to watch a video on the 11-inch first, not side by side, because I feel like every time I do that.

I can actually tell a difference, and it's kind of a biased thing. So I'm going to watch this video the same video in 4k on the 11-inch first, and then I'm going to watch it on the 12.9 inch model and see if I can actually spot a difference in quality between the two okay, so wow. After watching this video, this 4k video on both devices, the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch. I honestly cannot tell the difference and I think it's because I just didn't- watch them side by side, and I wasn't able to nitpick like one little small thing that the liquid retina, the r display, does better. I'm not sure if that's it or if there's just really a super minor difference between the two.

But I myself could not tell a difference when watching a 4k video on the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch model now granted. There were no real dark moments in this video, so the blacks may be much better, and I couldn't just tell you know from this specific video, but the overall colors and everything look pretty much the same. So I'm going to go ahead and watch one more video, and I'm going to have a lot more dark in this video. I'm going to try to find a video with a lot of shadows and a lot of dark points. Okay, so after watching that second video with a lot more dark and a lot more blacks in it- and it was also in HDR, so I compared HDR quality on both and that's where you can really tell the difference in this mini LED display.

So if you really want to future-proof, yourself definitely get the 12.9 inch model just because- and if you plan on having this for four or five years, I'm sure by then a lot of videos are going to be shot in HDR on YouTube and Netflix. And a lot of these places- apple, TV, they're, probably going to be in HDR and a lot of them are now so that's where you can really tell the difference, especially with that massive. You know, super impressive, max brightness of 600 nits when watching HDR content is just super impressive, for this 12.9 inch model definitely the highest brightness of any iPad ever, so that is one thing to keep in mind, especially when it comes to future proofing, so yeah. Overall, the 12.9 inch model with that mini LED display, is going to be superior when it comes to picture quality and video quality. But honestly it's going to be really hard to tell a difference unless you're watching HDR content, and you have the brightness turned all the way up.

So if you do want to future-proof, yourself, like I said, go for the 12.9 inch model, but you know if you don't really care about that, and you just want something: that's still perfect, just not the tip-top best. The 11 inch is going to be just fine and again, if you guys want me to go more in depth with anything on the 11-inch first, the 12.9 inch. Let me know down in a comment below I might do a more in-depth video on these two so yeah guys. That is pretty much it for my dual unboxing of the m1 iPad pros. Let me know what you guys think about these down in the comments below.

Are you picking one up? Do you want to pick one up in the future? Let me know all your thoughts down there in those comments below and if you guys enjoyed this video, I would appreciate if you gave it a thumbs up and, of course make sure you subscribe, so you don't miss my future iPad Pro content.
