Xperia 5 ii - Battery Life (Incl SOT)

Hello YouTube welcome back to my channel and in this video I'll, be giving you my detailed verdict on the battery life of my brand new Sony, Xperia 5 mark ii. This is the flagship from Sony released not long ago. The one before this was the Xperia 5. I also reviewed the battery life of that phone uh. Please do go and check it out on my channel if you haven't done so already. Okay.

So before we start talking about the battery life on this phone, let's quickly get into the settings and see which version of android this phone is running so go into setting first and foremost, then about phone. Then under android version you see all the details come up there, so it says android version 10. This is the version which Sony has got installed on their flagship phone for the moment. I'm sure android 11 is just around the corner and shouldn't be long before Sony updates their phone by the way for the past few years. Their updating track record has been quite fantastic, I'm very impressed so, hopefully fingers crossed.

We will get version 11 very, very soon, also android security, patch level, uh first of October, pretty much up to date, and so is the Google play uh system update and then this is the bill number here in the UK 58.0.8. This is obviously the European version, okay, so without wasting any more time, let's quickly get start in my typical style, as you guys know, I take screenshots of all my findings, so I can give you hardcore evidence as to what kind of screen on time I've been getting. Whilst I've used this phone for the last few weeks, okay, on the Friday, the 16th of October. As soon as I got the phone opened up, I received this update straight away once I hooked it up to the Wi-Fi so 48.3 meg update, which came up on the phone, like I said as soon as it got out of the box. My very first reading, as you can see, the battery was down to seven percent.

I was mostly on Wi-Fi, hardly used. Any 4g did include some heavy usage over an hour of what sapping. You can see over an hour Instagrammer you tubing, emailing chroming, making notes using installing new apps, of course, Amazon shopping, and eventually I was able to achieve a total of seven hours and 41 minutes of screen on time, which was fantastic by the way the phone has got a 4 000 William battery inside and is powering up a 6.1 inches OLED screen. So I did expect a good battery life because on the previous version the battery was significantly small. So this was a big boost, and thanks to Sony for giving us a massive battery and believing in bigger battery and fewer optimizations, not to say that they are not important.

They have also done some very good optimizations, but bigger battery is also, in my opinion, the only solution to get a good battery life. Okay. So next up again I was down to 17. I had to go out somewhere, so I couldn't um leave it off the charger for too long I was going for a couple of hours drive, so I thought, let's take it down to 70, only and let's take a few screenshots and see how things turn up so what's happening in our you tubing for over an hour lot of emails, guys. I love typing on this phone.

It's got, as you know, 120 hertz, refresh rate on the screen, so it's very smooth, but you're smooth, and your fingers literally slip whilst you're typing on this phone, so fantastic experience and Sony needed anyway, almost every other major manufacturer had got that 90, hertz or 120. I think they were the only ones left, I'm glad they have finally now got that as well. Okay, so Instagrammer for half over half an hour installing apps and stuff and everything else guys, and eventually I was able to achieve listen to music as well, of course, LinkedIn and twitter, and all that kind of stuff I was able to achieve a total of six hours and 24 minutes of screen on time. Uh, like I said, I was emailing, so if you're going to be emailing, guys, and you're going to be typing a lot that will obviously consume a more battery life, so over an hour of emailing and constantly typing does take its toll on the battery and that's why we had a little of less screen on time as opposed to one we had from before. Okay again here I was testing the standby times.

As we all know, most Sony phones have got fantastic stamina, and they got very good standby time, so this phone was no exception, as you can see at five past three in the morning on 4th of November, the battery was down to 36 and when I checked in the morning around just before nine o'clock, the battery was still at 36, so once again for nearly six hours, five to six hours, and it hardly lost anything at all. So this is one of the best standby times. I've seen on any flagship phone in the last couple of years. So Sony well done for that. A huge, a big take so once again another screenshot battery down to nine percent, as usual, social, heavy, social media, you tubing, Instagram and chroming.

Again lots of emails typing on this one. If I remember correctly, I think I had the brightness up to around 60. Normally this phone doesn't tend to get as bright unless you push it past, 80 percent or 90. But in this case I was keeping around 60 to see if that would make any difference to the actual battery life of the phone and after using it like, I said, heavy social media, apps and everything else. I was able to achieve a total of seven hours and 10 minutes off-screen on time.

As you can see, it's a bit improved as from before and if you keep the brightness low uh, the battery will obviously last you longer and that's the case for most phones anyway. Okay, another screenshot, a battery down to eight percent hour and a half of you tubing, almost nearly two hours of chroming uh, installing apps from the play stores, heavy social media, heavy emailing Facebook in everything else. Guys and again I was able to achieve nine hours and 27 minutes off-screen on time. Now you must be wondering why is such a significant difference all of a sudden, because guys, mostly during this time, I have the brightness even below 50. In this particular instance, it was around 40 to 30 percent, and most of this usage was at nighttime not as much during daytime, and that's why I was able to achieve almost nine and a half hours of screen on time.

It's a very generic principle. If you keep the brightness low, then the phone will give you more screen on time, especially if you like me, you like to do your bits at nighttime, because daytime quite busy, you will most likely get a very good battery life, but even anything above seven or six is in my opinion, is a good, strong phone. Okay, so again, I've received yet another update this time around. It was 147 back in size, as you can tell for some reason. Sony never tells you what they're trying to improve upon, but in general their phones do tend to be smooth uh.

They got good performance and overall, a good battery life. Okay. Here I hammered the phone a lot of guys, as you can see nearly three hours of what sapping and more than half the time I was talking to my mom, and I was on a video call and that did drain the battery, but we'll see in the end, how much of a difference did that make Instagrammer chroming heavy social media, half an hour of emailing installing apps everything else, and eventually uh making also phone calls as well listening to nearly an hour of music just over three quarters of an hour, and eventually I was able to achieve six hours and 54 minutes of screen on time. This phone has got fantastic stem now, regardless of whatever you do guys. It is very hard to kill this phone in one day, despite me trying my best a video conferencing, I have a few Zoom calls in as well social media emails.

This phone is a very hard to kill in one day, so, as you can see, in most cases it was taking me 14 hours or maybe at times and almost a day to kill the battery. So it wasn't an easy task. This is a very strong phone and with a massive battery and small stream, you're bound to get some very strong battery stats. Here. Once again, I tested at the standby time at nighttime on 8th of November just past 1 30 at night.

It was at 100 after full charge when I checked it just after seven o'clock in the morning, uh it was down to 98 percent once again and around six hours lost. Only two percent is probably one of the best figures on standby. I've. Seen in the last few years, like I said on any smartphones once again, uh well done Sony and also well done a Qualcomm for giving us this fantastic snapdragon, chipset, the flagship, 865. Okay.

So here again down to ten percent or a half of what sapping you tubing Instagrammer using my MX player pro to watch a film for an hour, uh chroming browsing everything else. Emailing on all that, and eventually I was able to achieve six hours and 34 minutes off-screen on time once again, fantastic figures for a heavy use, those of you out there who are not heavy users you're bound to get easily over a day of battery life from the Sony, Xperia 5 mark ii. Here I was gaming. A quite a lot of people asked me if this phone heats up. Well, I'm glad to inform you guys this phone does not heat up.

I was gaming for a day for nearly an hour and the phone only went up to 3730 degrees Celsius once again, very efficient, snapdragon chipset inside the phone and everything else by Sony. So here I was gaming and went to the screenshot at around 1737, as you can tell guys, and the battery was at 83 and when I checked it again at 1870 approximately after half an hour, the battery was down to 71 so from 83 percent to 71. So you can now imagine how much battery I would be drained, whilst you're giving a heavy gaming for nearly half an hour. Okay. So once again, at the end I took yet another screenshot, a battery down to 10 heavy emailing chroming social media what sapping everything else.

I really, really pushed it to the limit, and eventually I got seven hours and 34 minutes in here. The brightness was around 60, so all in all a very strong show by Sony and well done, Qualcomm for the efficiencies provided with the new snapdragon 865 and all in all fantastic effort and a big battery was just the icing on the cake, so guys that's pretty much it from me for now. If you like my video, please give it a thumbs up, and please do share the video as it helps me and helps all of those people out there looking to make that purchase decision based on a battery life.
