Xiaomi Redmi 9 - Unboxing

Hello there I'm Matteo the chief mobile opinions at the tech travel geeks, and this is the tech travel geek's unboxing of the Xiaomi Redmi nine, the affordable smartphone from Redmi Xiaomi's sub brand released in mid 2020. If you don't already, please do subscribe to the tech travel geeks here on YouTube right, then I have made a purchase. This was on Amazon. It was on one of those lightning deals, but is on similar pricing from other sellers on Amazon at the moment, and that's for the Redmi 9 with the UK variant with NFC. Now you can see that from the packaging that it actually says on the box, Redmi 9 with easy access to the app google apps you use most. This is obviously trying to differentiate itself from our friends at Huawei who, sadly, don't have access to the Google Play Store.

Now the packaging is pretty simple: it's a cardboard box with a nice printed back, but, interestingly on the sides. Apart from the specifications of four gigabytes of ram and 64 gigabytes of internal storage, we see a sticker that says, supports NFC! That's because in some markets the Xiaomi Redmi 9 does not have NFC. Therefore, you can't use it for contactless payments or for pairing earphones or the such queries in the UK. You do get that feature. So that's really quite important here, especially with cities like Edinburgh and London, with having contactless payment on their public transit systems.

So once you've slipped off the box, there's a cardboard sleeve on the inside. Let's see what this has in it. So there's a sim ejector tool very useful. It indicates that there's a non-removable back and oh there's a case in the box as well. So that's great, so a bit of documentation, a very quick start guides showing that there is a sim card tray that takes two NATO sims and a micro SD card warranty card, and let's have a quick look at the case.

The case in this case is a slightly opaque black CPU case so great first case for whilst you're waiting to have your mock dial case, delivered from Amazon or wherever else you'll be purchasing it from then we have the Redmi nine. We'll have a look at that in a moment. Another little cardboard inlay and then there's a charger. So this is an UK travel plug. It has the flippy up middle prong.

Now, let's have a look at the detail here. This outputs 5 volts at 2 amps. So it's a 10 watt charger, not the fastest one out there, but then again on a device. That's well under 150 pounds daily. You wouldn't expect that and USB type an at one end.

Now the cable itself is USB a to USB type-c. Yes, this is a modern smartphone released in 2020, and it's using the USB type-c standard for charging, which is great. That's what we like to see right, I'll, put the packaging aside and let's have a quick look at the Redmi nine. So we've seen the contents of the box the case, the cards, the sim ejector tool, the Redmi 9 itself is quite a chunky device and that's in part because of the large screen, but also because of the large battery. So you'll see that there are details here of a quad camera setup.

It means that there are four cameras. The main camera in this case is a 13 megapixel wide angle. Lens there is also an 8 megapixel ultra-wide lens and sensor. There's also a 5 megapixel dedicated macro lines, we'll see if that's much use in the full review and also depth sensor, so it should be able to handle selfies, and it's pretty amazing that you get a quad camera setup, 5000 William hour battery and a nice big screen, full high definition screen for less than 150 pounds and the Redmi 9, as you can see from the packaging, is powered by the hello g80 chipset. So I'll just take the plastic cover off I'll, take the sticker on the back off, and we can have a look at what that back looks like.

So this is the back of the device. Its it is plastic, there's nothing, nothing to hide the fact that this is plastic. It's not a shiny plastic, but it has a nice circular, textured back, which is very pleasant and circular flat. Matte finish around the camera module. Now, as you can see, it says: AI quad camera, that's the main sensor at the top and the other to the end a dedicated macro with a dedicated flash and there's.

Also, a fingerprint reader there. I really do like fingerprint readers on the back of the device. It makes more sense for when you're holding it your finger just falls on the fingerprint reader. Now the top of the device has a feature that we really do like here at the tech travel geeks. It has an infrared blaster and a microphone there's a little speaker grill at the top for the speaker for when you're, using it as a phone and there's a bottom firing speaker here at the bottom as well.

Now the bottom, as we said, USB type-c for charging and data, there's a courage, port, a 3.5 millimeter audio jack, which is always welcome in my books, as well as the microphone holes and on the side you'll see that we have that sim tray. It takes two NATO sims and a micro SD card for expansion. Now this is a 64 gigabyte model, but you can add an extra memory card and double, if not triple, that, which is perfect and on the sides. The only buttons we have is the power button and the volume rocker. That's really quite good.

One thing to notice is that the Redmi 9 has a screen protector on the screen as it comes out of the box and that complements the effect that is gorilla, glass, 3 on the device. So I'll just turn this on, and we can see how sharp that 6.5-inch screen looks just briefly, as you can see, Redmi powered by android. I will just have a look at what the bezels look like and what we'll do is do a separate video for the setup of the Redmi nine and go through the setup. Experience see what that looks like and what the experience is. So, yes, you can see this is the screen.

There seems to be little bleed on the sides. It is an LCD screen, it runs mini 11 and that's pretty sharp the color in the gradient. Shifting mini 11 logos is pretty well saturated, so for a device under 150 pounds. This is really impressive. So we're going to do a separate video for the setup of the Redmi 9 here on the tech, travel geeks, YouTube channel and going forward we'll also be doing a series of videos comparing the Redmi 9 to other devices in this price category in 2020, so we'll be looking at devices like Nokia, 5.3, which we recently released a review of here on the tech travel gates, as well as the 2g n20, and maybe the honor 9x lite, which all sit in that sub 200 pounds and most likely sub 150 pound price category here in the UK. But for now that was the unboxing of the Redmi 9 UK model as purchased from Amazon.
