What's New with the New Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 2021? Nothing!

Hey, it's jarred with state of tech. We don't have the new iPad for 2021 yet, but we do have the magic keyboard case and I wanted to compare it to last year's version of the keyboard case. They are different. This is a new version with a new model number and all of that, but is it really different because the keyboard case that apple released alongside the iPad Pro here in 2021 fits previous versions of the iPad Pro? So is there any differences? Let's take a look and see. I have the keyboard case, the magic one here on my iPad. This is the iPad that I bought last year in 2020 also bought the case, love it uh.

This is a great combination, and I've just enjoyed that keyboard case. It's fantastic. Of course. I wish it had usable ports on the side of it and stuff like that, but whatever, so we're going to go ahead and open the new one that I did buy for an iPad Pro that I bought. That is not here yet, if those of you who pre-ordered one are eagerly awaiting yours, like me, mine slipped back to the end of May, so we'll see when I get it, so I did get the keyboard case, though some of you may have if you've already ordered it received yours as well.

That obviously was ready to ship. So let's go ahead and pull it out. Basically the same experience as I recall on last year's model, everything looking very much the same to me right off the bat here before we dig into it. If we compare this kind of side by side here, the cameras, my top camera, is struggling just a little. You can see that they are very, very, very similar as far as what they look.

Look like. Let's look at the camera cut out here and try and get a good angle of that for you, let's go ahead and look at overall kind of thickness here. Of course, I've got just the cardboard that comes in this just to kind of mimic the thickness of an iPad. Everything is looking very much the same at this point. Everything down to the port here for the charging port very, very similar, uh, nothing new! So far, all right! So, let's open up the existing model and let's open up the new model and see if we have any differences to the keyboard or the trackpad or anything else for that matter.

So just looking at it real quick we've got the three pins here. These are for charging, it unfortunately does not transmit any data would be great. Considering uh the new iPad is going to come with thunderbolt a lot faster connectivity out of the port out of the back of the iPad. The only thing that's going to be a bummer about that is having dongles hanging off the side of your iPad. It's going to be kind of annoying.

It would be just beautiful if you could plug in down here and get that same connectivity. Of course, they'll probably save that for a future model, but here I am talking about and wishing for it right now so right now everything feels very much the same. Let's go ahead and just pop the iPad onto the other keyboard case. Here everything feels I mean identical shuts down feels very much the same. I mean the experience here very similar, very similar, the keys very much the same everything looks the same on these devices, with the exception that they have different model numbers.

This one is the 1998. This one is the 2460 I believe was on the back. The a24 80 is what it is. They seem pretty much the same to me. I'm really disappointed in the fact that there are different model numbers when really it does not seem that there is any difference between these two devices.

Now I'm sure that there are some little improvements that they made that are maybe just in the build quality or something like that. I mean this case here has held up pretty well over the last years. The corners are looking a little kind of beat down. Of course, I shove this uh into my bag every single day and these corners take a beating, as I slide my iPad into my bag um. Everything else has held up.

I mean there are some signs of wear on the back here. Obviously, as this spends a lot of its time on a table-top and then also sliding into a bag up against other things, looking on the top side here or the front facing side, you can see, you know where I typically would hold the iPad. It's definitely uh have some like finger grease. You know just the greasiness of our fingers has kind of worked its way in, and you can tell where I hold this thing when I carry it, I'm either carrying it like this or maybe from one of the sides and there's definitely signs of use there in those areas as well. So this is quickly becoming a very boring video, because there just is not much of a difference between these two, so this kind of like clarifies my thought, which is: why would you buy like if they fit each other? Why would you buy a new one? I would say the new version of this case is only for people who haven't bought one before if you haven't bought one before there's a good reason.

You know you could buy the new one, but if you have bought one previously and nothing is wrong with it such as this one, it's still fully functional. Everything is fine. There really is no need to change it out and get another one um in the photos that they showed online. They did look slightly different. I don't know why if it was maybe just me wanting them to be different, that could possibly be it, but the keys feel exactly the same.

The key travel exactly the same, the trackpad exactly the same. Everything is the same. So with that said, I guess that is about all that I need to say in this video. I hesitate even putting this video up, because there isn't anything exciting really to share here other than these are pretty close to identical devices. Even the open and closed action, very close to the same on both of these, this one even being a year old, still having what feels exactly like the open and close action of a brand new one.

So with that said, if you could find one of these older versions at a discount, I highly recommend going for it and picking one up, because there does not appear to be any difference between either of these two devices other than the model number, and I wouldn't spend the extra money. If you don't have to, however, Apple likely will not be selling both versions because there's no need. You can't find this version on Apple's website anymore, but you might be able to find this version on Amazon or Best Buy eBay, something like that if you could find it at a discounted price you're getting a discount essentially on the same exact product. So I hope you found this video useful. Maybe it helps save you a bit of money instead of going and buying something that is pretty expensive buying it again when really, there is no difference between the two uh.

Maybe I just saved you some money. So if I did give the video a thumbs up- and I hope to see you back in the next one- take care.
