What iPad should you REALLY buy in 2020?

Hello everyone, my name, is Sarah diet rhymes with peachy. We have the new 8th, gen iPad in the studio today. This is the new 329 dollar baseline iPad. You know if you're just like. Ah, if you want an iPad, you want. You know, you want an Apple Pencil, but you don't need top tier.

This is what you go for. I think I've done a video on the 329 iPad, like every generation, so we're going to do some tech, specs, we're gonna, see if it's quicker. Obviously it has a new chip, so has to be a little quicker in the background here. My friend, Michael shells, is painting a beautiful mural um because hey we like to talk about creatives over here and how they use their tools, so that will be a fun little addition at the end the longest run-on sentence. I think I've ever said.

Thank you so much Logitech for sponsoring this video because they just released their new MX anywhere 3. This is a mouse that I know and love. So it's cool to see the next gen of it. I have Logitech mouses or mice everywhere in the office and at my apartment, so I'm a big fan. Okay, let's get into it, but I'm going to close this because we don't want to disturb Michael.

I know this probably isn't going to be the most exciting iPad right now, but it is the cheapest. So this is 329. It's the basic iPad design. We have the know bigger bezels, and we still have a touch ID. So not a lot has actually changed from previous versions in the box you're going to get a 20 watt charger, though, which is good, it's very good.

Thank you. This is an USB to lightning. So this is an example of the 6th gen, normal iPad, 329 dollar price point. They did a huge upgrade last year with the seven gym where we got a bigger display. The 7th gen also got the smart connector for a smart keyboard, hookup and also Apple Pencil support.

So when it comes to the 8th gen after that big upgrade from the 16 to the 7th gen last year, this hasn't changed a ton in here you have the new a12 bionic chip compared to the previous one that had the a10 fusion. So again with this being you know the lowest tier iPad, you're still getting the new iPadOS 14 update and a lot of the great features that iPad users love with. You know the new scribble feature in notes which we're going to demo Apple Pencil. One is 99, and you still connect it by the lightning port at the bottom of your iPad that just like. Ah, it's so silly looking, but you charge it this way.

So, hey your pencil needs a little charge. You can just plug it in this and the magic mouse. I don't get if it's like the most Snapple design I feel like they have ever done, but nonetheless, still a thing. That's, okay, everything's fine use Apple Pencil to handwrite in any text area to convert it into type. Okay, hello, world, hey! I have pretty bad handwriting, so good job.

I will say it's a little of a bummer that the first storage option for this is 32 gigabytes, 32 gigs, like what we're even going to do with that. Furthermore, I understand everything is in the cloud nowadays, which is fine. Furthermore, I completely understand, but it's almost like, I feel like you need at least 64 gigs to just install apps onto your iPad. So it's going to cost you 100 more dollars to 429 to upgrade it to 128 gigs and at that point well, hey! If you don't have an Apple Pencil, yet that adds 99 and hey. You want the smart keyboard that adds 159.

Well, things start to add up, and usually I do reviews of these iPads I've done the past two versions of them. Every time I've been like amazing value, the best bang for your buck, heck, yeah love it this year has changed because the new iPad airs that start at 5.99 now, and they push the bezels back. You got fun colors, you have a really powerful processor, and you have the Apple Pencil too. Now that kind of changes, everything and we'll get to that soon, but a few more things about this, the cameras have stayed the same 8 megapixel front and rear camera 720 for the selfie cam video conferencing FaceTime zooming. Now I will say even though it's a 720 cam, it still beats a lot of laptop cameras.

I do not understand what laptops are doing. I feel, like some companies are like understanding this new world. We live in and are trying to make the webcam a bigger deal, but at the end of the day, you're, probably better off just using your phone, so iPads have always done a pretty decent job at the zooms and the face timing timings face at the face: timings. Okay, so this is the OG smart keyboard. Here, I'm reminded how old this design is like.

Do I even remember how to I feel like this was the case for the original iPad pros in like 2016 or something wait? Why do I like the smart folio better than my smart iPad Pro keyboard? This is just a harder press, anyways. Okay, I forgot how this felt this actually feels very nice. Okay, while I'm finishing up installing some apps here, let's run a few benchmarks. We have the 6th gen versus the 7th gen versus the 8th gen. All the 329 base model iPads of their times, and so you can see the know, gradual improvements that we're having year over year because I kind of did miss the pro motion display the adaptive 120 hertz.

I did miss the Apple Pencil 2 and having the versatility of you know, tapping to go to my eraser. When I'm writing notes and stuff, I was able to download huge pictures from the Lacey app. Yes, I did buy a Lacey q2. I really haven't made a video on that, but I enjoy it, love the pictures I'm getting out of it and this iPad could handle the 80 megabyte dogs, but I ended up just using the 20 megabyte JPEGs anyways editing. Those huge raw files is honestly a little of overkill, and I just saved that for when I'm on my computer people's favorite, drawing apps like adobe, fresco and procreate, did fantastic on this iPad um.

The only time I had an issue is when I was drawing and also screen recording at the same time, but that was like one out of four times that I was doing it, and it handled it well, every other time. All in all, this iPad can handle a lot for writing notes for you, students and now that I'm used to this. I do notice a little of that latency yeah, it's actually much more dramatic. Now that I use the iPad Pro with the promotion display and the Apple Pencil two more but notes, entertainment, casual, safari, scrolling and multitasking with apps. This has it again, I'm a little disappointed that it starts at the 32 gigabyte storage.

Like what sorry it's the last time, I'll mention it. I promise, so I definitely want to get into all the different iPad lineups that you can purchase now. Are you confused? I think people are a little confused and I want to clear some things up, but before we get into that, can I just take a moment to thank Logitech. Thank you so much for sponsoring this video, because this is one of my favorite mouses. This is the previous MX anywhere 2 that I bring everywhere when I'm on the go and guess what it got a facelift.

This is the MX anywhere 3. Oh, it looks so pretty this is their compact mouse. It is good to just take anywhere, but also it's a little smaller for you with smaller hands. It's a really comfortable fit comes in three different colors. Furthermore, it's compatible with Mac, OS windows, iPadOS and I think oh wait.

Oh, the sides feel so good. It's like a cool rubber feel I like that. Oh yes, oh yes, this is nice. This is nice. This is a clean setup right here.

Look at that, but yeah, it's perfect to pair with the iPad, and now with you know the recent iPadOS updates. It has official mouse support, which is just so fun because it really elevates this just a tablet to hey. This is a computer. Now, what's a computer, I'm going to turn it on. I'm going to show you how easy of a setup it is here.

You have one two and three, so you can hook it up to three different devices, so assign number one to your iPad number, two to your laptop number, three to your phone or your desktop boom there. It is popped up immediately, MX anywhere 3. We're just going to click it we're going to hit pair wow. That was so painless and we're done. We are done folks and look at that got herself a mouse.

I mean. Obviously the first thing we should do is just mindlessly scroll on Twitter right. How are you guys doing by the way, with like the internet and like life and things? Apologies? Last week I just didn't post a video. I feel like you're, probably going to be sick and tired of me saying: oh life, 2020 2020, but um for real some hashtag 2020 went down okay, so I love this mouse so much so the compact design can virtually track on any surface. This is a slippery whiteboard surface, and it is doing swimmingly, I might add it has the buttons on the side for going back and forth on web pages.

I have a whole video on how you can use your mouse with an iPad efficiently that I will link below, but it's basically just like using your just like you would use your finger to navigate, and it really makes it like a computer. It's a lot of fun all of these buttons, the side buttons and also this one are assignable in the Logitech app. So you can do a lot of cool things with it and on top of all that, it also has flow support where you can flow your mouse in between two different devices. So I actually showed off this feature when I combined a MacBook and a Windows PC and had them working together on the same display that was such a fun video to make. But that was the tech that I used for that.

So obviously, a big fan of these guys check out my link in the description below this mouse just came out. It feels really great, and thank you Logitech for sponsoring this video. Now I kind of just want to like to hang out on my iPad hold hold on I'm just going to scroll on Twitter for like hours, so before we check in on Michael and the mural behind me. I'm very excited to see it. I think it's time to talk about the entire iPad lineup and figure out where you fall.

So for a few years there, the 6th gen, the 7th gen 329 iPad 299 for the educational discount was my kind of favorite. The value was crazy. Uh john, who is your know an artist now he's always in procreate, always doing his thing. He started on those iPads and was literally like building a new artistic career with a 300 iPad. So I was insanely impressed, and you can watch those previous videos why this has changed is entered the iPad Air there's a new iPad in town, and it looks fantastic.

This new air, yes, of course, starts at 5.99, which is much more expensive, but you're getting more of a modern design, but it's essentially the same exact form factor as the iPad Pro 11 inches. The bezels are a little just a little chunkier, so it's a 10.9 inch display instead of 11, but it's you know that really great form factor with the flat edges of the iPad Pro that I think, we've all learned to really love, and it just got fun. You have five colors to choose from now space gray silver rose, gold, green and sky blue. They also release a lot of new fun colors for the smart folio cases, but what's cool about the iPad Air? Not only is it compatible with the Apple Pencil too, but it's also compatible with the new magic keyboard, which you know allows your iPad to float, and it's more of a laptop experience when it comes to typing that magic keyboard is essentially like typing on a MacBook. Instead of these shallower keys, of course it has a steeper price tag, but when you're investing in an iPad Air you're getting the modern accessories, the modern look with the bezels, and so that means you have probably a longer amount of time.

You can wait until your next upgrade. The new iPad Air doesn't have face ID, but it has a new kind of touch ID on the power button and hey now I kind of bury the lead. The new air also has the brand new a14 bionic chip, which is apple's new five nanometer process for their chips, where they fit 11.8 billion transistors on that small chip for that maximum performance, so great power efficiency and up to 10 hours of battery life. Now I want to say where a lot of people are getting this wrong, and I think this is going to help you with your purchasing decisions. Should I get an iPad bro? Should I just wait for the iPad Air that isn't out until October by the way and that 5.99 option starts at 64 gigabytes? Thank goodness if they put 32 in that, I would have been. I would have been upset.

So this is where people are getting confused. The new a14 and the iPad Air, yes, is super impressive compared to the a12 in the previous iPad Air, so the new six core CPU and four core GPU, the CPU is 40 faster and the GPU is 30 faster than the a12 of the previous iPad Air. Remind you, the iPad Pro 2020s have the a12 z, which is still going to be more powerful than the a14 that is in the new iPad Air. Those stats that you see on Apple's website are in comparison to the previous iPad Air, not the chip, that's in the iPad Pro 2020. , so the a12z with the 8 core CPU and the 8 core GPU respectively, is more than the six core CPU and four core GPU in the new iPad Air hope you're still sticking with me.

There um, but of course you know it's seven nanometer versus five nanometers, which it's not apples to apples. But you get my point: the iPad Pro 2020. , if you just bought one, and you need heavy duty, computing you're, a professional, creative you're, using the iPad as your main computer. So you need all the power you can get. Don't feel bad, don't feel bad about it.

The new iPad Air is going to be great and faster, but in comparison to the previous iPad Air, not in comparison to the iPad Pro 2020. So I can't tell you exactly how much faster the pro is still in comparison to the air. Until I get my hands on the iPad Air, but to be determined again, those are available in October. That's pretty much as I wanted to say about the new iPad Air, but I guess the other obvious difference that I've already mentioned is the pro motion, the 120 hertz adaptive display. But if you want a big honking, 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Well, you know the iPad Air only comes in that 11 inch, the 10.9 inch model, so this is going to be the size of the new iPad Air and in comparison I mean 12.9 inches is just huge and if you are just an iPad power, user, and you're replacing your laptop, you might want that size. So all of this to say one if you can find a refurbished, 2018 iPad Pro they're, probably better prices than ever right now, Michael's still behind the curtains.

I think we need to reveal the mural, but before we do that, I want him to just come in a doodle, because I'm not a good artist. He's a great artist open up procreate just see what he thinks, because he still uses a 2016 iPad Pro, which you know iPad Pro cool, but it still uses the first Apple Pencil, that's great. If sometimes it lags online just because it's so old, but if I'm honestly, probably going to get one of these just to have it. So, even though my opinion right now is hey if you're considering buying this, maybe you just wait a month to see the new iPad Air see how the reviews are and how people like it, but Michael, is probably a good example of someone where this just makes sense, because he's not going to have to spend the extra money of when you add the smart keyboard, an Apple Pencil, and you bump it up to the 128 gig spec. It comes out to 687, and at that point you might as well check out the air but Michael's someone who already owns the first Apple Pencil.

So it's compatible with this. He doesn't need a keyboard and the chip that is in this 329 iPad is so advanced compared to what's in his previous iPad from 2016. So as someone who just uses procreate and only procreate he's probably a good example of someone who could literally just get the 32 gig 329 version and be off to the races point, is you have options, and I'm really satisfied with these iPad updates, and it makes me even excited to see what is in store for the next version of the iPad pros. So let me know what you guys think about these new iPads, but I'm going to let Michael continue. So it goes from procreate, sketching on the iPad and then the process moves over to his MacBook, where he then projects things on to the wall um.

So photoshop is my way of breaking down an image into a dark, a light, a medium. Well, let me show you it's much easier to show you. So this is my original image right. I take it and I throw it in the threshold and then here I can see that's like all my blacks, so that's like the blackest of black, and it's a teetering scale. Obviously, but I like to do one layer, it's just my important slack, so you can see the profile of cars, the windows and barely the clock.

So I'll do that make another one like that and what it looks like. Are you zoom all the way in, and it's just a bunch of mumble jumble we zoom out, and the detail becomes pretty detailed, my darkest gray, but not my black, I'm going to turn that into a like a very lime green. So I can have. I can see that lime green on the projector on the wall- and I know lime green- is dark, dark, dark, red time for the big Michael shells mural beautiful, reveal, and with that I feel like my office- is kind of like hey you did it. I did it final shot here.

It is. It looks great Michael. Thank you very much. It looks amazing. I'm actually pretty happy with it started at 11.

It's now 6 16. Yep solid day, but I'm pretty happy with it. To be honest, so good, I wasn't nervous at all. That looks amazing. Thank you very much, so now there are two Michael's chalice's pieces, this guy and the one for some reason he's not proud of it, but I think it looks awesome is that wall over there? I just think it's you know.

I like it, but I'd like it better on like an um like a brick wall outside yeah. What is your push? Instagram YouTube? Oh man, okay, I'm new to YouTube, so go to my YouTube, Michael shells, um, s-h-e-l-o-I-s and then go follow me at Michael Shelley's creations to see all of this stuff day to day um behind the scenes, as I'm kind of working on 10 000 things at once. Yeah looks awesome, so we talked about a lot of things in this video check out the links in the description don't forget to like and subscribe and smash that like button, oh you're, a user, I'm a YouTuber, I'm so impressed make sure to do all those things check out the links until next time guys stay peachy, okay, bye! You.
