The smartphone of extremes: Huawei Mate 40 Pro ⚡

Hey, it's me martin, and I believe that the Huawei Mate 40 pro is technically the best smartphone in 2020. , it's for sure not for everyone, but at least it's getting more easy to recommend and in this video I will tell you why and what I think of it four weeks after the release. So let's get started, let's start with the two biggest elephants in the room, price and google. So regarding the price, this is besides the best smartphone, also one of Huawei's, most expensive smartphones, 1200 euros, at least here in the Netherlands, and that is a lot of money. So next up to no surprise, there is also no google okay. So before you start throwing comments at me, hear me out: yes, the very first few Huawei phones without Google were almost impossible to recommend, but it feels to me that Huawei has been working really hard on their ecosystem and software and that they have come a very long way ever since and here's why it is true.

Google still cannot be installed or easily site loaded, but there have been made some very huge improvements with, for example, the app gallery from Huawei and also more and more apps are being offered or ported. But there are still quite a few that you have to side load yourself, for example, my own banking app, but also Evernote, Dropbox or Disney plus, and there's still many methods to install your favorite apps from, for example, f, droid or via phone clone, but that all requires some time, energy and effort. What I personally find the most interesting is the wishlist functional feature. So basically, what you can do is, for example, my own banking app is not in the Huawei gallery app. You can just put it on your wish list and the more people put it on their wish list.

The higher it gets into the ranking and then Huawei will persuade some developers or the bank to port their app to the app gallery or, for example, to write a whole new application, and they do so by also offering a hell out of money. So they're really investing a lot into it and I think that's pretty good, even though it comes at a really high cost for them, but that is of course necessary because they don't have an option to use the Google play or anything so what they did as well is they introduced petal search? This is another app from Huawei that they're heavily investing into, because eventually it will add more and more features by the day to complete their ecosystem, so they will also include, for example, an alternative to google maps, for example. But for now it's a handy tool to install certain apps, and I personally cannot wait to see what else they will bring. I'm going to continue talking about this software, because I believe that a lot of reviewers have already covered all the hardware perfect. So here I am discussing emu because I actually quite like it a lot.

It has loads of options to change the way. The phone works from visual tweaks like the dark mode to functional ones like an editable always on display, but not all is good. The amount of suggested apps to install on my phone's home screen is just way too much it's ridiculous. Overall, it brings quite a big visual overhaul from stock android, which is stuck at android 10 with vibrant backgrounds and app icons, which helps me to appreciate the high quality of the display. It's really a pleasure to look at and whether you like the pill shaped cut out for the selfie camera is up to you.

I've mentioned quite a few times the Huawei ecosystem. Here in this video and in my watch and free bots reviews videos, you can check them out here in the top right corner, but I also have to say: Huawei is actively trying to build their ecosystem, and it's getting better by the day, it's now easier than ever before, to connect and use your Huawei smartwatch and headphones and get the most out of it with, for example, exclusive features for Huawei smartphone owners. Besides the lacing fast hardware, the battery is really well managed and optimized as well, because there's not a single day ever since I got this phone four weeks ago that I was worried that I will run out of juice before the end of the day. The battery capacity is 4400 William hour, which is about average for a flagship smartphone, but it feels to me that Huawei took some of its great software optimizations from their smartwatches to the phone, because also the standby time is impressive. The same counts for charging 66.

What is a lot? It's the highest, I've ever charged a phone with, and it might be the highest, but it's not the fastest. I compared it to, for example, the OnePlus 8t with 65 watts and a 4500 William hour battery, but it was slower to reach the 100 mark. Now to me, it feels that, while I put in some safety measures to make sure the battery lasts, at least for around two to three years, but if you want to check it out, you can click here in the top right corner. To my comparison, video for the battery charging speeds- we've talked about a lot of stuff regarding the software the battery, and now I want to continue and finish off with the camera, because I believe those three topics are basically what every user is using every single day. So in two words, the camera is next level, it's definitely on par with all the other top tier smartphones, and at this level it basically comes down to your personal preference.

The modes and the software features pictures taken on the Huawei Mate 40 pro looks fantastic from scenic shots to close up subjects to portraits and low light. All is perfect. I also believe that Huawei remains ahead of the competition when it comes to low light, no matter which lens you pick out of the four portraits, also look really great, even in low light, and it's not over the top, and there are also some settings available to play around with last but not least also, the video footage looks great, with surprisingly vibrant but realistic colors. It looks to me that Huawei managed to get the panning stutter quite under control, and also the stabilization is really smooth, and what I personally like a lot is that it's possible to seamlessly zoom between different lenses. So, in short, I believe the Huawei Mate 40 pro is a phone of extremes yeah.

I think that's a pretty good one-liner to bundle everything that this phone holds from the fastest hardware, to 66 watt charging and from a steep price to impressive cameras to no google services and whether that's worth the money, that's totally up to you. The only thing that I can say is that I really you really enjoyed using this phone. Unfortunately, I have to send it back to Huawei, as they loaned me this unit. So thank you so much Huawei. I also hope that you liked this video, if you did so, please give it a thumbs up subscribe in case you haven't already.

If you have a comment or question drop them quickly down below, and then I hope that I can help you out because after a while I don't have the phone anymore, and I cannot answer any specific questions. So let me hear from you thank you so much for watching this video and I hope to see all of you in the next one.
