The new BUDGET PHONE KING of 2021? TCL 20SE Full Review

Hey, what's up everybody welcome to PTR? I am Brandon thanks so much for stopping by in this video we're going to talk about my time with the recently released tcl20 SE. Now this is a budget entry device from TCL. They have three different ones: the s e the s and then the big boy, the pro mod, but we're going to talk about the little brother good little brothers need love to the s e here in 2020. I hope you liked the video. Let me know what you think in the comment section below whether this device that's going to fit for you or not. Let's go now again.

This is a phone, that's not for the techie. This is a phone for really somebody who is looking for a basic phone, that's going to give them a great amount of value for the money. So, taking a look on the back here, you've got a 6.82 inch display with HDR uh capability, a really large 5 000 William hour battery dual speakers, 48 megapixel main camera, and this particular model comes with four gigs of ram and 128 gigs of storage, which is also expandable via micro SD card, okay guys. So this is what you're going to see before you open the box. You're going to get some reading material, which you and I both know, we're never going to read, but whatever USB your power, brick and USB type-c, cable you're also going to be greeted with the case which is kind of nice.

It's kind of a semi-smoked, I'm not sure if it's the same uh for the other color, but for this black model um, it's like a semi-smoked, colored, uh, clear CPU case and obviously the phone itself. Okay, guys. So now that you've gotten the phone out of the box, let's just kind of take a quick walk around the device itself. First things: first again, it's got a 6.82 inch display, so that's nearly 7 inches of display. It has the water drop notch up top there.

Um to me, bezels is not an issue. Some people will complain about it, but I think the bezel situation here on the phone of this size of this design is just fine. It's not intrusive in any way shape or form. You've got a very beautiful 1080p panel here, as you can see here I mean this thing is great. Let me change the wallpaper around if you guys can get an idea of what this is like.

Let's go to a go to a live wallpaper. Let's do like this red color. I mean it's just brilliant. If you know anything about TCL TVs, you probably have one they're perfect for the money, great value situation here, the fact that TCO put their same TV technology in their phones. Let you know right off rip.

You should be very comfortable knowing you're going to get a great quality display for the money um walking around the device here. You've got a power button here. Furthermore, you've got a volume, rocker up and down button here your button here, I do believe you can map this out to whatever you want, but the default is to google assistant and your sim create your sim card tray tool here. USB c charging here two sets of speakers here, but it's also dual speakers, so I believe it's also coming out of the earpiece here, and the phone has guys an actual headphone jack, still something that's very rare to see in 2021. It's interesting that you see it on budget devices, but you don't see it on flagships.

I don't get it, but welcome to America. It is what it is. So there you have it kind of taking a walk around. Oh also forgot, to mention the fact that you've got fingerprint sensor on the back and the quad camera set up here on the rear as well. The nice thing about the quad camera setup.

I personally like, is the fact that there is dark in that there's, no camera, there's no bump. There's, there's no real wobbling. Profound wobbling, like you see on other flagship phones with those massive camera humps. So shout out to TCL for not following that trend, a couple of things that I like and some things that I don't like we'll start off with some things that I dislike. The first thing that I dislike, I'm not a fan of the polished color here only because this thing is a fingerprint magnet.

Now again they did provide you with the case. So I would highly advise if you hate fingerprints as much as I do use the case that comes in it, so you can avoid that um. The other thing that I kind of thought was weird was the fact that you've got the power button here, which is great. You've got this button here, which you can use for in this situation is set up for Google Assistant, but it would have been nice. The fact that this button here is textured.

I wish that the power button was the one that was textured just an odd thing or two textured ones. I don't know two different textures, but I felt like the power button itself should have been the one that was textured versus the Google Assistant button here, but small nitpick item there, other than that you know other than the plastic and the gloss and the fingerprints and the know: texture assistant button there versus the power button. Those are really only physical dislikes. I have about this phone. This phone is very comfortable in the hand nice rounded corners here, so it doesn't protrude when you're holding it so from a comfortability level.

I think you're going to be just fine, even if you have smaller hands. That's going to be a very nice thing again with the fingerprint placement on the back. If you do have small hands sorry, but if you've got decent sized hands like I do reaching it, it's going to be just fine um. So with that being said, let's talk about the fingerprint sensor right now. Okay, so again guys this phone does have a fingerprint sensor here on the back here I had to put the case on because the fingerprints were just driving me insane.

So, let's see how accurate this is, how quickly it opens up. So you can see it for yourself here: okay, it's not the fastest. Obviously, okay, it does the job, and it does the job well, 100 of the time it's just not necessarily the fastest. So just know that going in okay guys. So, let's test out the dual speakers on this device here and see how it sounds wanting to be sure, but every time it comes back, okay guys.

So you heard the speakers there, um, in my opinion, from what I can hear having the phone present being honest. The speakers are not that great to be totally honest with you, they're good they're, good enough to do the job, but I don't think they're going to be that spectacular so with the fact that it has a headphone jack. I highly suggest that you use it and or use some sort of Bluetooth speakers and here's the reason being um the phone's not very loud. I will say that I had that on max volume, although it sounded good for the volume that it was at. There was no real distortion or anything like that.

I just wish there was a little more volume coming out of both speakers in particularly the front. That's the speaker here in the earpiece I felt like it was very almost non-existent. It was there, but you have to really listen for it. So again, um it's just something that is, it is what it is in the phone of this price range. Again.

If it were, you know three four, five, six hundred dollars. I would expect more so again keep that in mind when you're, looking at potentially purchasing this phone use a pair of headphones uh, whether it be wired or wireless to so that way you can enjoy whatever it is you're watching or listening to its fullest. All right. So we're going to talk about the cameras. Now the camera setup is very simple and straightforward.

It's got four different cameras, several modes, there's even a pro mode with this phone. So what I'm going to do now is I'm going to pause the video here, I'm going to show you both some pictures and some video clips using this phone, and you guys can get a sense of whether the tcl20 SE is going to be the phone for you, okay, guys. So one of the things that's very important here on this channel again, why it's called practical tech is you want to make sure it hits a couple key areas? The first key area is the price tag. This phone on TCL's website right now is 189.99, so it's a sub 200 phones hits the mark right there for what it has to offer. Overall, the price tag is definitely on point.

Nearly seven inch display 6.82 inch display that's huge, and it's a 1080p display, which is even better. The fact that the color reach and reproduction is very clean, very crisp. The is just bright and just it's perfect for the price tag again you're dealing with TCL. This is a phone manufacturer. Now that will that has made televisions for years.

That Brit has brought that same technology into the phone. So you're not going to go wrong. There. You've got a very good camera system. Here, it's very versatile.

It's got a little pro mode. If you want to play with that which is great um 128, gigs of storage, there are flagship phones out there that still don't boast.128 gigs of storage, let alone with expandable SD card support, so that's a plus in and of itself overall, the value that this phone has to offer is it's perfect for a phone. That's under 200 bucks. I cannot say anything really negative about it. That would say not to get this phone again if you're somebody who's looking for a phone to own, whether it be as a backup phone or your main phone, if you're somebody who's just looking for a solid phone on a budget.

This is a phone for you, your kids, first phone, perfect, it's plastic, so you know the likelihood of them breaking it. It's going to be better than that of glass. Again, it comes with a case with it. So you got everything that you need right in the box and again for under 200 TCL quality software updates. For at least a year, you can't go wrong with that.

So, in my opinion, is this a phone that's going to be for you again if you're somebody who's looking for the basics or maybe just above this is the phone for you if you're a tech head you're looking for all the hypo, you know the hype specs and things like that. This is not the phone for you, so look for the tcl20 pro once it's available, but again for somebody who's looking for the basics or slightly above that, that's going to get the job done at an affordable price tag. The tcl20 SE is a phone that I can definitely say I would recommend so with that being said, shout out to TCL for sending this phone out for review. If I can find the links on Amazon I'll post that in the description where you can get yours, otherwise I'll post a link to TCL's website, so you can check out more information about the phone for yourself, I'm b Ross of PTR thanks so much for watching I'll talk to you guys in the next video peace.
