Hey guys, what's popping Jacques slave here back with another unboxing, but this time we're switching things up. The good folks over at TCL reached out to sponsor a video on their latest phone, the TCL 10 5g UW long name. Yes, I know, but the phone is actually pretty nice, and it's less than 500 bucks. So, let's give it a go, but first some b-roll okay. So let's get this unboxing out of the way. As you can see here, they sent me the fancy box and review unit, but the retail version that it's going to come with is in the smaller box that you see right here for those that aren't familiar with TCL, they actually make TVs, and that is how they are most well known, but they're transitioning to cell phones, which makes me think that they're going to crush it when it comes to the screens.
As you can see here, the package comes with a phone, obviously a braided, USB, a to c cable and a fast charge.18 watt wall adapter, which is a bit of a luxury these days so physically, the phone is about six and a half inches tall, but it's rocking a 6.53 inch display that is FHD 2340 by 1080. The aspect ratio is 19.5 by nine, so that widescreen, goodness, is on full display. Here it comes standard with 128 gigabytes of storage, but you can increase that with an additional 256 with a micro SD card, it's rocking six gigabytes of ram and the battery is sitting pretty at 4 500 Williams, essentially you're, getting all the specs of a high-end flagship phone, but it's just about half the price. As most of you know, the features in cell phones these days from the top end to those at the low end are pretty much along the same lines. The experience you get from the most expensive device to the experience you get with the budget phone is very similar these days for the TCL 105g UW, you get a lot of the specs.
You expect, from the high end, mixed with the display expertise from TCL and the power of android, but it's priced at only around 500, and it has 5g. Now there has been a lot of talk about 5g and what it means. But basically, if you can access 5g in your area, you can expect internet speeds that are 2 to 5 times faster than what you would get now on LTE and speaking of being faster. The phone is rocking a Qualcomm snapdragon 765, which is almost two times faster than the snapdragon 730 holding the phone. It seems pretty solid in the hand with glass on the front screen and then a 3d glass back.
The back features three cameras: a 5 megapixel macro, an 8 megapixel wide and a 48 megapixel main camera on the video side. It shoots 4k, and it has a few different options like slow, mo, stop motion, light trace and piano. You can even do super macro as both photos and video, but you're definitely going to need a lot of light to make that look clean. Now, while this isn't a review of the phone and more of an unboxing and my first impressions, the camera here is good with the right amount of light. You'll get some really fantastic shots.
Now the front of the phone is nice and clean, with only the camera cut out in the top left corner, the bezels are pretty thin on the side panels and top, but you do get a bit of a fat chin down at the bottom, but that kind of fades away pretty quickly with you looking at the screen and speaking of that, the screen is an LCD and the colors look great, but I will say that they are using a highly reflective gorilla glass on the front, and it picks up fingerprints pretty quickly. I found myself cleaning the phone off more than usual, and that goes for the front and the back not necessarily a bad thing, but just something that I want you guys to put on your radar and like most LCD screens, you do get a bit of a color shift. If you look at the screen off axis, but again not a dealbreaker, especially at this price now, as far as the software goes, the phone ships with the customized version of android 10, but I'm told that they will be eventually upgrading to android 11. I personally like it. When companies don't go crazy with customizations and TCL kept it pretty light on what they did with this version of android, so we'll have to see how they approach it with android 11.
And speaking of the software, it does come pre-loaded with a few games, as well as a few programs from Verizon and some streaming services. Another thing that I really like is the fact that they kept the headphone jack. I still think it should be on every single phone, but that's neither here nor there. If you do want to go wireless, you do have the option of doing Bluetooth, and I didn't have any issues connecting it to any of my wireless headphones. The speaker, grille is right there at the bottom and the speakers get reasonably loud, but getting back to the wireless or fingerless it comes with the option of actually using your fingerprint to unlock or using your face or both I register.
Both the fingerprint sensor is on the back, which is where I prefer it, and it's a nice and snappy unlock. It doesn't take a long time. So with all that being said, who is this phone for? Well at this price, the TCL 10 5g UW is probably your best option at hopping into the world of 5g without spending a lot of money. Unfortunately, I don't have 5g in my area yet, so I didn't get to test it out, but I've seen plenty of tests online that show the crazy, fast speed you can get. It's also a solidly built phone that takes good pictures, plays games and can pretty much handle anything you throw at it, including editing, 4k video, some of which actually made it into this video.
So again, if you're looking for something, that's a great value for the money that you're going to spend on your phone. That gives you some of those high-end features has a good camera. Has good speakers has a good screen. This is the phone. You should probably check out it's the TCL 5g UW.
