TCL 10 5G UW (Review)

Hey guys this is mike from tech reviews here, and today we take a look at the TCL 10 5g UW, hey guys, welcome back to my channel. So today we're going to take a look at the TCL 10 5g UW by Verizon wireless. Now this is Verizon's introductory uh 5g android phone by TCL and, first I want to give a big shout out to TCL for sending me this phone out to test out. So I've had it for a couple of weeks now, and I've been able to play with a little and I feel confident enough to talk about uh, the usage of the actual phone and just the phone itself. So, first, I want to go over physical features of the phone. So let me get this turned off and you guys probably saw the little b-roll footage that I took of the phone, but on the back you have this triple camera set up right, which the main uh, the main camera, is actually 48, megapixel camera, and you have that touchscreen sensor, and you have this nice back.

Parley called the carbonate or whatever you want to call it. I guess it's like a hard plastic, but it's reflective, and it does give you kind of like a little holographic uh. You know backing to it which looks nice. You will probably need to buy a case for this, depending on the user, though right but again, this is Verizon's. First 5g uh android phone by TCL uh, which its introductory price is 3.99 and that's actually a very good steel, considering this is an ultra-wide band. So if you live in the uh, if you live in the states or areas that have the ultra-wide band uh like Kevin Reese, for instance, I know he ran a speed test uh, which got up to almost 1500 megs or maybe a little more, and that was pretty good.

So anyway, going back around here. You have your power button on the bottom here, and then you have your volume rockers on the top, so I'm kind of a fan of the volume, the power button being first and then the volume rockers being on the top left. Just because it's going to uh, you know make it a little easier for people with smaller hands again. This is a 6.53 inch touch display on the bottom you're rocking uh speakers, which you have two speakers. Girls, although I don't know uh.

If you know they are both work, functional or one is just for show et cetera like that. Yet you do have your USB type-c port on the left-hand side, you really have nothing! You just have your sim card tray, which goes right here where my thumb is and on the top, which is a big shocker. You do have a 3.5, millimeter, headphone jack and, of course, on the back again, you do have those dual led, uh flashes, so going from there again, this phone is a pretty big phone in the hands. So if you guys are not a fan of big phones, this is not something you're going to like. Just because like me, I have pretty average sized hands right, I'm not a big guy.

So now, if you're a person that likes big screens, obviously this is going to be fine for you now. If you look at it, it has a nice IPS display and all the way around again it's pretty it's going to be pretty crisp and clear, especially when you're watching things like YouTube, etc. Like that. So, if you look at that, like it looks very nice, I have dark mode turned on and right now I have premium setup uh. So you know again, you know very snappy phone.

I do have this setup on Verizon's 4g LTE right now. In my area it only has um. It only has 4g LTE and there's its got like low band 5g. So that's that's something I'll talk a little more about, but let's go over specs guys so spec wise. You know this phone is packing a snapdragon 675 g processor, which is a processor, that's kind of co-aligned with uh the T-Mobile level 5gs specific phone.

And then you have phones like the pixel 5, which is running the same processor, so you're going to get that it's going to have a 4 500 William battery, also which the 4500 William battery uh actually does a great job. I've actually had this phone on for a couple of days now without having to charge it and right now it's sitting at a solid. If I can get this to focus there, a solid uh 41 so really not too bad battery life. You know, depending on the user's usage, obviously you're gonna you're, going to your know, experience different things like as far as gaming and whatnot, so, overall app usage for me, though, like Instagram and YouTube has been pretty okay, and I'm gonna probably make a separate video about gaming. So that's not something that will be discussed in this specific video, guys uh, but right now I do just have it connected to the 4g at LTE right now, which in my area, unfortunately the 4g and the 5g is not very good.

To be honest, I think the most that I've got in is maybe like 60, megs, download, etc. Let's go look at the results here just so we can kind of show you guys here uh, but you can see here that most of my speed tests have been on LTE and my highest is 87, which is the most recent and on my 5g test, which I don't even know. If there's any here, let's see I might have, I might be able to find some 5g test, which you know I don't know if you guys, can see that 9.97 32 down here and then just vice versa. So my 5g test hasn't been very good and that's not to knock on Verizon wireless again, I'm from south Texas, where the know the ultra-wide band is not currently readily available and of course I did tweet out to Verizon's ask like letting them know hey. What's going on like.

Why is the 5g so bad, and they're, saying basically that they're they're, you know their nationwide 5g is basically piggybacking off lies. I guess you know modems or whatever you want to call it. So there's that again I don't know too much about the connections and which band this is connected to et cetera, especially where I live so going from there. You know I did test out the camera functionality of the actual uh phone here. So again, if you guys look at the camera system, it's pretty much laid out just like the tcl10 pro right.

It's really not bad uh at all. Actually, so again, going back to the back portion there. The main camera is sporting, a 48, megapixel uh main camera, which I again you can get down to uh 2.0 aperture. On that uh it's got an eight megapixel ultra-wide, which you know. I didn't really test out the ultra-wide too much and a 5 megapixel macros.

So, if we talk about macro, you know again if you go, if you click this there's a little button that you can click it that actually can zoom in so I can actually zoom in even more up to 10x there. I'm not sure what just happened there- okay, so I am sorry, so it went. It went over to video mode which I'm not a fan of, I accidentally clicked it, but anyway, so you can do that and of course you know you can do your ultra-wide, which your ultrawide looks like that right, and it's got a bunch of other functionality. So you know you have video uh, which you can shoot the video in 4k up to 30 frames per second. So let me go ahead and show you that really quick! Oh, no! I don't want to record what's going on there.

I clicked this. So if you go to video quality uh, it gives you the option to switch it to 4k 16x9 at 30 frames per second, which is pretty good for a mid-range device. If you think about it, you have 1080p at 30 frames, 1080p at 60 frames, and then you can go down to lower qualities. If you guys don't want to clog up the memory which is really not bad at all. If you think about it again, this uh it comes with 128 gigs of internal memory, and if you want, if you want to add another SD card to this or a micro SD card to this, you can so going from there again.

This phone does have six gigs of ram, so you're not gonna. It's not gonna just be like something to push over and knock on. So again, you can take uh 1080p at 120 frames per second, which I believe this does have a slow motion feature, and it's just got a nice. A little of nice features uh coming over from the TCL 10 pro again, you know you do have these features like slo-mo stop-motion, light trace, which is more for uh nighttime videos which I haven't tested that out, but I'm sure it looks pretty cool piano super macro, which I have not used that yet and of course, your hype uh your hype pixels. So it's got a bunch of little features me as a basic user.

I will usually use just auto, and I've already tested the video on this. So you guys can check out the video uh from there, which is one of my last videos I mean I might post it up in the description down below. It does have portrait mode uh super night mode and then, if you guys are interested in a pro mode, this does offer that so pro mode allows you to uh change out little features like the ISO uh, your white balance, um, the lighting etc. Like that, so again, you guys are, I'm probably going to get like I'm probably going to get blur here, but it's going to give you all those little features so overall uh the camera. You know as far as video goes, I'm not really impressed by the camera on the video itself.

I think the uh, the know, the main sensor could be a little better like on the 10 pro right. But again you know that you have to kind of budget it out to where you know it's going to give you just what you need, and it does take very good picture. So I can't complain about that. You know the selfie. Camera works pretty.

Well also, the selfie camera does take video in 1080p at 30 frames a second, so you have that cut out right there on the top left portion there of the actual um of the actual device there, and again it's a 16 megapixel camera. So it does take solid pictures. Also, we'll get a shot of me here. So I'm going to go ahead and just take a picture of me there, and it's pretty snappy again. The background is pretty over here, because I do have if it's just a bright room in general.

So there's the picture of that. I've actually posted that on my Instagram. So if you guys haven't followed me on Instagram, make sure to follow me. Okay, because again check this out, like it does a good video uh again already taking video uh with these uh with this specific device only in 1080p, so I've recorded in 1080p at 60 frames. A second uh so check that video out, if you guys want to check that out, uh again this uh, you know going back to the specs on this phone.

This phone does have six gigs of ram, and it's very snappy, it's very snappy for a snapdragon 675 and again, a lot of people are going to complain about these mid-range phones. But considering that this is one of Verizon's uh, you know mid-range flagship devices or especially by TCL. It's its relatively cheap. If you think about it, because again, how many other 5g phones out there are under 500. There's really not that many phones out there in this price range, especially by other brand competitors.

I mean the only really other phone that I've phone competitors that I've seen put out. Devices in this specific price range is Samsung, so TCL, which you know is mainly a TV manufacturer right, uh they're, you know, they've started making phones, you know this year, and they started releasing these phones earlier uh in the year, and I've been lucky to have tested out at least three or four of them. Actually, so I've tested out the tcl10 pro the TCL 10l and the T-Mobile Rev 5g, which is not branded as a TCL device, but it's still a device made by TCL. It's just not branded because I think that's T-Mobile's variant very similar specs as far as uh, this device goes. Basically, the TCL uh 10, 5g UW and the revel 5g by T-Mobile are the same device.

All they did was just changed the backing to this, and they made this look more like uh TCL's uh again they made them look more like the 10 pro and the 10 l, which again that's that's going to be you know the dual LEDs and the dual and the camera setup is kind of going to be their bread and butter when it comes to differentiating these devices. So this you know just so you guys know this phone does offer a quick charging at 18 watts right. So if you go, it will come with that uh right now. I believe this is the only color that this device comes in which uh you know. If again, you know there might be other colors coming out, but right now, that's going to be it for, for that specific color, so you're not going to have a lot of options.

But again, if you live in an area where you have that 5g capability, it's going to look really nice, or it's going to it's going to function very nice, especially because you're not going to have issues so going over the screen. You know the screen is a 1080 display right, which I'm not complaining about. Most mid-rangers will not go higher than 1080. Obviously, and that's pretty good and again the know the pixels per inch. It looks very nice like I can't complain about that, and this thing does have HDR capabilities as far as the screen goes.

So you know if you, if you want to watch Netflix or Hulu, and the show is shot in HDR uh you're going to get that and again. This thing is running an outscore processor, which you know again you're not going to have problems, and again I haven't tested out gaming just yet, but it's one of those things where you're just not going to right now to me, you won't have many problems playing any type of games, at least not heavily graphic games and again most people will, you know, complain on games. Like Call of Duty or Fortnite etc. like that, but if you're going to be playing basic games like Mario Kart or you know, Mario run temple run, you know angry birds, etc. Like that, it's going to be very snappy again, you can see here that it's very snappy, I don't have any issues, I'm jumping from app to app, and you know it's very it's relatively snappy again, I'm not on Wi-Fi or anything like that.

So you know it's very, relatively snappy. I just checked this car video out by the way by redline reviews, give them a shout-out, uh the new Subaru BRZ, which is the car that I want to get which again guys uh. You know. Overall, this phone, I believe, is a decent phone and for the price you know you might see a markdown coming down this holiday season. You know, I'm gonna probably leave a few things here out and there uh one thing that I kind of I didn't like or was dismissed on this one.

I guess is you know it, because this is a TCL brand phone, though you know, I'm I'm missing little features kind of like the sidebar that the TCL 10 pro has and just little things like notification uh. I guess things were like you know. If you get a notification to the actual phone like on the TCL 10 pro it lights up all the way around. When you get a notification, and you just don't get that you just don't get that on the 10 l so hold on. Let me see, let me turn this off, and you know the home screen looks like this.

You know the face. Unlock is turned on right now by the way, so again things like the fingerprint sensor which I'll go ahead and use. Well, it's superfast. I can't complain and the facial recognition just as fast. So again, I have faced unlock on here and some people might like that added feature opposed to devices like the pixel uh 4a or the 485g or the 5, which those you know.

Even though they're pixel branded phones, they don't have faced unlock anymore. So I think that's one thing that people might want in this specific phone. You know I am a fan of the gallery. Uh. That's one thing that I really like over using google photos.

Am I like the way this looks I like how it's set up, etc. , like that so again, guys like a very nice solid phone for the pricing and again, if you guys are not or if you guys are not interested in TCO, I think you should really start looking at these devices, because they're only going to get better and better and TCL? You know their TVs are great and their device, their cell phone devices, are just going to continue to get better again. This is year, one where they're releasing these devices, and I'm already impressed uh by phones like the 10 pro the uh. You know the level 5g the 10l and even this specific phone, which is TCL's 105g UW on Verizon, so again guys uh, take it with a grain of salt. You know this is just my opinion.

Uh. Furthermore, you know how the phone works, how the phone is used, etc. Like that, so again, if you guys like this uh, you know this video don't forget to smash that like button, if you guys, like my channel uh, don't forget to subscribe and as always thank you again for watching we'll see you all next time.
