Sony Xperia 5 II unboxing: a smaller Xperia 1 II with a 120Hz display but no wireless charging...

Well look what the cat dragged in Sony's Xperia 5 mark ii. Finally, I have a review unit here we are. This: is the box Sony, Xperia 5, mark ii, and then this same here, there's some stuff at the bottom here, so you know what to expect triple cameras: 12 megapixel, each eight megapixel front got a full HD OLED display, and I believe this has a 120 hertz refresh rate, and we have a 4 000 William hour battery snapdragon 865 with 5g, not in the US, but anywhere else, IP water resistance and there's an IMEI on the top. Here. Let's get started nothing in here: here's the phone, here's a divider and then here is a charger conveniently labeled 18 watt, so USB type cpd. I presume it's the same charge as we found in the Xperia one mark ii, which I've unboxed up.

Here you get some earbuds because there's a 3.5, millimeter, headphone jack on this phone, and then you've got a charging cable, USB type-c to see on one end see on the other end yeah pretty standard stuff. So that's it for the box. Let's take a look at the phone ta-da and good, no I'm a sticker in the back. So this is a very dark phone, very much like the Xperia one mark ii. So in fact this is pretty much the xp1 mark ii, but with a small display size and instead of like a 4k display, it has a 1080p panel but 120 hertz, which I think is probably the better option.

It's also a pretty reasonable size display at 6.1 inches. So let's turn this on and have a look, nice vibration motor. You know this is an expensive phone so like about a thousand dollars, maybe a bit less. So of course you expect only the best again, it's Sony. So there you go Xperia very nice.

I was a big fan of the expert one mark ii um, it's hard to recommend in the US because, like this phone, neither of these phones have 5g support for the US. But honestly the camera is perfect. I think, especially the manual modes that they offer that replicate some Sony alpha camera features. So, as you can see, this display is AMOLED.120 hertz 1080p super nice display, there's a small chin and forehead, but it's a symmetric, there are no notches or controls. Little bezels.

There is an 8 megapixel front facing camera up here. I don't know if you can see it and, of course, an earpiece, because this has stereo speakers you can see. There is another speaker at the bottom. It's firing outward, but between these two sides you get stereo audio, there's also a notification light. If I remember properly, so that's kind of cool.

You don't see that too often on a modern phone that 8 megapixel camera is an f over 2.0 camera, and it has 1.12 micron pixels. You know it does 1080p 30 frames per second recording. Nothing too fancy. As I mentioned, the snapdragon 865 is a x55 5g modem in here there are eight gigs of ram 128 gigs of storage and the other option is 256 gigs of torch, depending on which one you buy, but you do get eight gigs of ram. The battery is 4 000 William hour under here, and it does support 18 watt charging.

I'm not sure if this is wireless charging all right. So, let's talk about the rear cameras right, obviously, that's a big deal, so three cameras at 12 megapixels each and, as you can see, there are t-star mass lenses, which is a pretty big deal. You also have like a light: flicker slash, color balance sensor and a LED flash. The NFC logo here so yeah main camera is f of 1.7 12, megapixels, 1.8, micron, pixels, so really large, pixels, dual pixel phase, detect autofocus and, of course, is. So this thing is bonkers.

It can basically do the same kind of quick autofocus face and animal tracking that the Sony alpha cameras can do and with 1.8 micron pixels, it's perfect in low light. Then there is an 12 megapixel f4 2.4 telephoto, that is a three times optical zoom with is, and it's got one micron pixel. So that's kind of the only underROG here, one micron with an f of a 2.4 aperture, is going to be a little difficult in low light. Then there is a 12 megapixel ultra-wide f of a 2.2 1.12 microns. I believe on this one, so a little better in terms of low light performance and of course it doesn't have is, but it does have autofocus.

So all three lenses have autofocus, which is really cool. I like having an ultra-wide with autofocus. Sometimes you can use it for macro shots and stuff. Like that so yeah look! This is a beautiful phone. I really love the industrial design.

The kind of curved edges here, the mirror finish, is very Sony. You can remove the sim tray with just your fingernail, which is really cool because the micron sim goes in here. You know, and it's still water resistant, which is kind of amazing. So let me walk you through the edges. You've got the volume rocker here and the power lock key with the fingerprint sensor.

It is interesting because it's an OLED display, but they chose to not put the fingerprint sensor under the display and put it in the power lock key there's a programmable button. Here I think it's like a Google Assistant button and then there is a two-stage dual detect camera button. Here you don't see that too often as well on the bottom. Here you have USB type-c port and the speaker. You can actually see the speakers right at the edge right.

You see it there, and then you know you've got a primary microphone as well down there. On the left hand, side really don't have anything, except for that sim tray that I pointed out and there's some antenna bands and on top you have the headphone jack and the secondary microphone. So that's the layout for this really cool Sony phone. I wish this thing had 5g in the US, I'd really be into it, but that's the only thing if you're abroad, this might be a worthwhile phone, especially if you're into photography. It also has a manual video app that supports some cine Alta stuff from their video camera professional video camera series.

So again I will put my review of the Xperia 1 mark ii below the link to my hot hardware review, because this phone other than the display that you know being smaller being 1080p and 120 hertz is really pretty much. This is pretty much the same phone. The other one has a 60hz 4k display, so that's it folks. The Xperia 5 mark ii from Sony, a really nice phone. That, unfortunately, is never going to get the love it deserves, but again Sony bring us a phone with 5g for the US.

Even if it's unlocked Samsung can do it, so you're Sony. I know you don't sell a lot of phones but anyway, stay tuned for more folks. Tell me in the comments below. Would you buy this phone? You know even 5g or not. Would you care, if are you into photography enough, that it matters to you here in the US? What about abroad? Tell me like to subscribe.
