Should You Upgrade to the 2020 iPad Pro?

Hey everyone Andrew from Apple Insider here and we're going to be tackling the question that I've, probably gotten most since the new iPad pros, are announced, and that it should you upgrade to the newest iPad pros. So we're going to look at exactly that question in this video, whether you're coming from a previous generation iPad in general, maybe an iPad Air or the standard iPad, and then we're going to look at if you have specifically the 2018 iPad Pro and if you should make the jump from 2018 iPad Pro to the 2008 20/20 iPad Pro, and I'll tell you what I'm going to be doing and why I'm going to be doing that. So, let's get the fan, bear and jump right into it. So we don't have to go into all the changes on the new iPad pros here. We've done that in other videos. So if you want to know exactly what has changed, the exact changes on the iPad Pro 20/20 then go seek out that video here.

We're really gonna focus on what matters and kind of the changes that you're going to see, depending on which one you're upgrading from and if those are necessarily going to be worth it's so starting out with just generic iPads, depending on which I've had you have the iPad iPad Air, something along those lines should you upgrade to the new iPad Pro well, the new iPad Pro doesn't have any decrease in price, so it's pretty much starting out a where was before. So. If the iPad Pro was previously prohibitively expensive, then that's not going to change if you're getting by on your existing device, and it's working just fine, there's necessarily no need to jump to the new iPad Pro there's, not all that much changed the biggest thing. Squint paper formats and the increased storage on that lower price tag, those a few other minor things. So if you have an existing iPad, and it's working well for you, there's no need to jump ship to the new iPad Pro.

There is no redesign, nothing major! That's going to entice you over that! The previous generation iPad Pro didn't offer previous generation iPads like the iPad Air, are already rocking the 8 well Bionic processor, the iPad Pro 2018 was rocking the 12 X Bionic processor, so there's a little more capable and then the new iPad Pro 2020 is offering up the 12 Z Bionic processor. Again, it's small improvements over that a 12 X, which itself was improvement over the 12 Bionic. So processing power is not going to be the big differentiator. If you're already seeing good performance, there you're not going to see this huge market difference by going to this model, especially over just the previous 2018 iPad Pro speaking, of which I think that is probably what is most interesting and what I think a lot of people are most on the fence about. Do you have the 2018 iPad Pro if you should jump over to the new 20/20 iPad Pro, that's really kind of the boat that I was in and what a lot of other people were in? If you have a 2018, should you move to the 20/20 iPad pros, honestly, a lot of people? The answer is No.

The iPad Pro is still an expensive device. If you top this thing out, it goes above $2,000 if you're kidding it out with a magic keyboard and then maximum amount of storage. That is a lot of dough again it's to get into MacBook Pro territory, so just kind of year and half difference going to what this speck bump is. It's probably not worth it for the vast majority of people. Now there are a few people that need to make the jump to the new iPad Pro from the 2018 iPad Pro.

There are some people who are on the previous generation iPad Pro the 2017 iPad Pro. If you were on the 2017 iPad Pro I, encourage you to jump to the new 2020s, there's a lot of differences. Here you have everything that was new with the 2018 iPad pros that redesigned that liquid Retina display all of those things that it's so much less bezel, especially on that twelve point nine inches. So if you have that previous generation, the 2017 iPad Pro, absolutely go all in with the new 20/20 iPad pros, if you run the 2018 iPad pros, it's definitely a lot harder to justify now. Funny thing is that is the camp that I found myself in, so I did have the 2018 twelve point, nine-inch iPad Pro and the thought of shelling out a lot of dough on the 20/20 iPad Pro was hard, so I was very eager to see what the changes were going to be, and I was a little underwhelmed in kind of the degree of everything that Apple changed, especially considering the long amount of time in between upgrade cycles.

There just wasn't a lot there, but I still found myself upgrading for a couple of different reasons. First, previously I bought way too little storage, I didn't know if I was going to keep the device I had that 2017 model and I bought the 64, gig and I regretted it. After a couple, months of use and I just did not have enough storage in it, so I've been living with way too little storage. On my iPad Pro for far too long, I definitely needed to increase storage space to I do use the iPad Pro for a lot of video and image editing a lot of that stuff, and that takes a lot of processing power. We're talking about 42, Meg raw photos that are just huge editing, 4k videos and Lima fusion and exporting things.

That's a final. Cutting I just need as much processing power as possible. So come. Those two combined was reason enough for me to upgrade the iPad Pro 2018 is still worth a decent amount of money, so I'm able to sell that and help offset the price of the newer model, so I'm definitely going to be taking that route and upgrading. Personally, because I need every ounce of power that I can get and the new ALZ Bionic processor offers an 8 core GPU in there.

So the biggest games you're going to see are in graphics power. So again, video and photo editing are going to be the most beneficial with that updated processor. So for me, I am gonna, make the jump. Wi-Fi 6 is also nice. I have to develop ax routers around my house, so having a Wi-Fi 6 on.

There is going to show me more improvement, especially the very congested networks around where I am so Wi-Fi 6 is another nice to have feature that I'm going to have with the updated iPad pros. So really that's what it comes to if you have an older iPad. This is a great time to upgrade. If you have the 2017 iPad Pro absolutely go ahead and jump on board. If you have the 2018 iPad pros, it's very hard to justify, and unless you would really need every ounce of power you can, I'd recommend if you've a 20-18 iPad Pro pick up the magic keyboard for 300 to 350 dollars, and that launches it's a much better pill to swallow than spending the 800 or more plus, that magic keyboard on the 20/20 iPad pros.

Otherwise, if you have the older iPads, and it's working just fine for you, you're not at bumping at any limit on storage or processing power, stay with those as well. There's nothing huge here that the 2018 iPad pros didn't already offer, so I want to hear what you guys think.
