Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 - 1 Week Later...

I really like the fault, it's still got my sim card in, and I'm going to carry on using it going forward, but um, I think the one that's going to be more appealing to people are gonna, be the flip and let's talk about the flip, so the flip um, you know I tried out the hands-on event. UK supplies with Samsung are very limited, apparently because I still not don't have my flip, so I'm going to have to either wait till they send me one or just buy one when it comes out in a couple of weeks, but e you have had the flip from the day of uh launch the US Samsung us thumbs up you guys. Um have been on the board getting stuff out to people straight away, which is awesome um. I want to know your thoughts because I mean I can share my thoughts with my hands on, but obviously I haven't had the day-to-day experience that you've had. I really like the flip, so I ordered one I mean that's just the first thing I'll tell you, okay is I. I went ahead and pre-ordered a flip uh.

If you're going to get a flip, though get the matte black, because that's the only one that's mad, and it will not slip and slide. I don't know why they didn't make the rest mad, but that's the only one because um, so board lemme did her. Selfie photo shoot with it, and you know she really loves it because for her, it is you know, taking the picture. I don't need to ask anybody. I just need to tilt it put it on something, and then I am good and watching her do that.

Furthermore, I was like that is so true I mean yeah. We've known it before, but now that cover display makes it easier for you to frame. You know your photos uh, but we placed it on top of like this s, pole that had like a yeah. If I saw it yet and and and then it just started sliding. Ah okay, so I had to decide to either drop my a7 s3 or catch the flip, and I was like no a7 says I'm still holding this yeah, but it's its it's really.

It's really nice. The hinge feels much better than the original flip or the flip 2. Uh and the display. As I mentioned there, the crease feels smaller. It doesn't feel like it feels like you open up a regular phone, so I just dropped my gaming video on the flip, and one of the biggest benefits is that you can use all the custom game controllers that you can connect to android smartphones on the flip, uh and yet still fold it up, and it's smaller than the controller itself.

Those controllers are tiny, and the flip just be still becomes smaller. So it really is one of it's a device that I see it having more legs than most people give it credit for. I think there are certain things that they need to fix like. I would like to see a bigger battery in there because, even if you're using it on a daily day, it's fine, but if you start doing really heavy tasks on there, whether it's gaming or just watching a lot of content on there that battery drains right, it now starts feeling like an iPhone to me. Almost not it's still better, but it's still like, like you know the iPhone 12, not the 12 pro max, but if they, if they can increase the battery, somehow maybe make that cover display even bigger and honestly I mean the images from the camera actually are pretty good.

I'll just say that this is something where Samsung can continue to drive that price even lower, and then we have, like you know, imagine like an 800 foldable now it as 9.99 where it becomes cheaper, and they can just keep a price point at like 800 or say 8.99, and we know that. Okay, that's a really solid price for your entry foldable and then the fold series becomes a 1200 aka, a galaxy s, 21 ultra type price point totally, and I think the price is the biggest thing for the flip, because you know Samsung to get that pricing. Considering that the previous folders were like 1400 right, that's a significant drop. That's almost like you know that that's 400 off, or I think in the UK, it's around 300 350 right, that's a significant drop in price right. It makes it a lot more accessible.

Now. A couple of things I want to touch on is like you know when you mention that you can keep it half open, and then you can do the flex view and then that way, especially if you want to use the front-facing camera, where you have a bigger viewfinder, yes, you can use a cover display. This is something that you really can't do with the folds, because, with the fold the front-facing camera on the main display is um now not as good right. So you kind of you know if you want to do those selfies and stuff like that, if you want to maybe shoot some tick, rocks or whatever it is, while you can still see your framing without having to use any tripod or any mount or anything like that, one thing that really annoys me on tic, TAC, tic top and Instagram real when they see trends right where people you know what they do, the outfit chains and things like that right, yeah. You know the point of uh change, right: okay, it's like the camera's moved, and it's just like I'm sorry, but you know I don't expect everybody to be a camera expert.

But can you not just keep your phone in the same place? Why do you have to move the phone? Why can't you just keep it in the same place? Go change and carry on recording right, because it's just you know, because in the transition, it's just you can do, sorry. That's that that's a wrap for another time, because whenever I see that I'm like I'm, not going to like this, because that is lazy. It's such an easy transition to do right. You just need to make sure the camera doesn't move right now with the flip right, if you're using the front-facing camera, which is a very good quality front facing camera on the punch out, you kind of you know, use flex mode, you keep the camera there, and you record whatever you want to. Do you pause it? You come back.

You know you keep your camera there, and you start. Furthermore, you know you don't need to invest in a tripod or something I quite like that right, yeah. So that's quite nice. Obviously uh. We talked about the price, but here's my question, and this is something that you know it's coming to me.

Okay, so it's got the folding factor, which is great right, but when you open it up, it's not. I mean yes, we've. You know we talked about some of these flex mode features and things like that right, but generally speaking, like 80 of the 80 of the time, you're just going to be using it as a standard smartphone right, it's opened up. So it's a standard smartphone which you can fold in half, okay, yeah for a thousand dollars right, and you are having a few compromises. Like you mentioned the battery life.

It's not got as good battery life. As you know, something else so say right now, for about a thousand, you can get um pretty much a s21 ultra-right, yeah, roughly yeah yeah. So roughly speaking, you're going to be able to get a Sony ultra, which you know sure, doesn't fold in half, but it's got much better cameras right. Remember: it's got the yes, it's got it's got two telephoto cameras. It's got the periscope zoom camera right, it's yeah, but you're, not the customer and again trust me, I'm with you on that! Cam again it's its me.

I've been I've learned so much more from watching board. Lemme do content, because the mindset of what she considers a product she likes is very different. You know she looked at the Xiaomi and she when I, when I showed her the screen in the back. She was like. Oh, it's golden.

That is just pure treasure. So it's its to me. It's its where I think Samsung can have a hit, but they need to be able to give that messaging properly much better than yeah. They need to market yeah. That is, I think, that's the key point, because you know you mentioned the Xiaomi, and you know, grizzle saw that it's like are awesome right, but a lot of these are kind of considered.

You know potentially gimmicky features right which your regular consumer is going to buy. The yes 21 Fe, like you, know, straight away. It's just like. What's reliable right now, it's just like a fold they're still a bit unsure. Yes, it's more durable! The screen is more durable.

The frame is more durable. You've got ipx8 right, but there's still going to be a certain level of hesitancy, whereas for that same price you can get something. That's a lot more familiar, it's a lot more reliable. So that's the question and that's something I think we're going to have to wait and see from the audience, and you know definitely drop us comments as well below that if you had the choice between you know: um, a foldable device which does give you some additional features, but you have to have some compromises right, or would you like something? That's more familiar a standard smartphone, you get more features, but you don't get that foldable factor yeah. I mean.

I definitely agree with you there. One of the things that I found quite interesting with the gaming video I dropped was uh. There were a few people who were like I pre-ordered it. I wasn't sure about gaming. It feels it looks like it's like the s21 ultra.

Thank you and I think, that's them two me. They have a gold mine here. I don't know how they will achieve it, but looking at the accessories you know um, you know the keychain accessory for it like they've got these really cool things that fit to a very different generational mindset of like you know this is mine, let it be mined in its own cool way, which has always been there, but we've kind of gone into these silos of apple Samsung, apples, and now it's like. I just want to accessorize my stuff. You know, and I think that that comes into play so again, maybe we'll see Samsung, probably closer towards the holiday, where we're going to see um uh more like advertising more, maybe working with designer brands to make it like a mini purse.

You know, like I can imagine this kind of things going on where we're going to see more push in there, and we'll see less of a push from the fold itself, because it's its so quick, yeah yeah, it's niche, like you want to fold, you want to fall, but now you now can either get a s21 or you can get yourself a know. Flip to me. I've always said that the flip should have been the extension of the s line. It should have been uh because, like you said, there's nothing more to it other than it flips, and now it has a covered display, but it's still an s phone I mean that's all it is so that's where I think it should lay. The fold is a little different.

Where you can see it. You argue for the note, but it's still its own beast yeah. It is. It is, but I mean I would say you know obviously we're we're kind of discussing some potentials. But the flip, for me, I think, is, is such a coming in that price.

It just makes foldable devices so much more accessible right, and it is super cool having something like that which you know does have some of these features, which you might consider gimmicky, but it's just cool like I. You know every time it's funny. Whenever I've got my falls, my nephew calls it. The iPad phone he's like oh Sam you've got the iPad phone, and I'm like yeah Samsung, wouldn't like to hear about that. But um, it's cool, it's different.

You know what I mean like we've had these slabs, which look very similar for the past 10 years right: okay, yes, they've been increasing slightly, and then we've got devices which literally fold in half, which is mind-blowing, and I'm super excited about the technology. I'm really looking forward to kind of how this develops, and you know what happens next. So, let's see, I hope you enjoyed that clip.
